Smart watch Samsung Gear S3 frontier (SM-R760NDAASER) - Reviews. Samsung Galaxy Gear review: it's time to get things done

Date: 12/27/2017 Time: 21:45 75324

Samsung smartwatch users at the beginning of 2017 strongly assumed that the release date of the Samsung Gear S4, or as the new name became known, would fall at the event dedicated to the annual IFA consumer electronics show on August 31 in Berlin, Germany.

However, the Korean manufacturer has announced various wearables that include the Fit 2 Pro and Sport, and has retained the S3 as its flagship model. And while these wearables are top-notch and attractive, many are eagerly awaiting the next generation of Gear S.

When will the Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch be released in Russia? What is the presentation date of the device and what will be its price? We offer you an overview of all the information regarding the long-awaited new smart watches from Samsung.

News and rumors

At the beginning of 2017, the company announced its readiness to begin mass production of the Exynos 7 Dual 7270 processor, which will be the most likely candidate to power the next generation of smartwatches. This processor is faster than its predecessor and includes a smaller 4G LTE modem. This shows that the Korean giant still cares about keeping the S line alive and ready for a new batch in 2018.

Peculiarities

It is hoped that Samsung will continue to improve the software running the smartwatch as part of its update. Many agree with the fact that although current smartwatches are quite bulky, they are still stylish and feature-rich. But future software improvements should fix some problems, such as inaccurate GPS tracking or questionable heart rate monitor readings. In parallel with the changes in the new version of the watch, the company should also bring improvements to the Gear S3 software.

Charging from a smartphone?

On December 7, 2016, Samsung filed a patent for “Wireless Accessory Charger,” which states that “a mobile or wearable device can be charged via a dongle or wireless charging station when battery power is low or insufficient.”

The illustrations offered in the document showed the company's smartwatch positioned above a Galaxy smartphone, which is encased in a special case that serves as a docking station.

According to the patent description, the accessory case includes a magnetic coil that allows you to charge the device wirelessly. As we already know, a patent application does not necessarily lead to actual implementation, but it does confirm that companies are looking to solve serious problems such as electromagnetic waves and heat.

Voice assistant?

There are prerequisites that the fourth generation S watch may use Samsung's Bixby digital voice assistant, which is found in the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones.

It's likely that Bixby will take the place of S Voice, as a company representative said that the assistant has been implemented in both the TV and the refrigerator; so why not build it into the watch?

Android Wear?

There are doubts that the South Korean manufacturer will switch to Google's Android Wear operating system, but one way or another, the upcoming new Gear Watch requires a much larger selection of applications.

And it looks like the company is set to use its own Tizen OS, which recently overtook Android Wear in popularity for the first time, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. During the first quarter of 2017, Tizen had 19% of the overall smartwatch market, compared to Google's platform's 18% (Apple's watchOS held 57% of the market).

So it is obvious that the newcomer to the S series will be equipped with the latest Tizen 3.0 operating system. Let's remember that Tizen 3.0 provided 64-bit compatibility, as well as support for 4K Ultra HD graphics and image and speech recognition, which is great for smartwatches.

What users expect from the new product

The most common question was what the new wearable device would look like. Images of fourth-generation smartwatches appeared on the Internet every now and then. But these were just guesses and assumptions. Let's look at some of them.

Curved Edge screen?

One of the company's patents, provided to Patently Mobile, hints that the watch may have a curved display similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone. The patent shows a smartwatch with a touch-sensitive strip along the edge of the case. The Gear S3 is known to have a rotating bezel around the watch face, and a patented touch bezel could also become a reality someday.

Flexible display?

The 3Dnews resource published information about a patent that talks about a smartwatch with an optical zoom built into the middle of the dial. The document also highlights the presence of a strap with a screen that holds app shortcuts. This will allow users to use them on the bracelet without having to search through the tiny watch screen.

The Korean giant has been working on flexible and curved screens for a long time, so it is not surprising that the company will extend this idea to a watch strap. However, let's not forget that a patent often does not go beyond the scope of the idea.

Slim form factor?

Currently, many believe that the watch will have a lot in common with its predecessor S3, but in a thinner body thanks to the new processor. Like the S3, you can expect multiple versions with different bands to suit users' needs in both style and function.

Buyers want the S4 on their wrist to be smaller and slimmer, lighter and sleeker. Even if such an opportunity is available in at least one of the models in this line.

Functions

The S4 is expected to come with a 1.5-inch variant for people with larger wrist sizes. Users are also looking forward to an updated sleep monitoring system that will automatically calculate and recommend rest hours based on the number of calories burned and health data.

Health and fitness

It is known that the manufacturer has focused on fitness and sports with its Gear Sport watches and, most likely, this emphasis will be present in the Samsung Gear S4 2018 generation.

In an interview with the American satellite business news channel CNBC at the beginning of 2017, Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh said that “if the company can properly develop smartwatches to monitor health and provide the necessary information, then the market will grow.”

These words should correspond with the rebranding of S Health and even the release of new sensors or additional accessories for the wearable device. For example, the S-Patch 3 health patch, which was presented as a concept in January 2016 at CES, and recently appeared on the FCC list, indicating the company's readiness to launch S-Patch 3 to the masses.

Accurate activity tracking

We're already familiar with the Gear S3, which is packed with fitness tracking features including:

  • heart rate monitor
  • automatic workout recognition

However, according to user reviews, the device suffers from inaccurate data when tracking exercises. Likewise, the GPS function has become unreliable and disappointingly inaccurate. The same goes for the heart rate monitor.

Fans expect to see improvements to all of these features in the next model.

Other applications

One of the disadvantages of using Tizen's own operating system is the lack of available applications, so users are waiting for a counter-step from the company to be able to use more applications that work with the watch.

Lower price

The third-generation watch has become one of the most attractive watches, offering a reasonable price, rivaling the Apple Watch 2. There is concern that the successor will be expensive.

While demanding new additional features along with improvements and bug fixes from previous models, users still want the product to be affordable. And if Samsung wants the watch to fly off the shelves in serious numbers, then a lower price would really help with that.

Battery

The Gear S3's battery life is generally quite impressive, but not when using the Always On Display. This is a feature that allows the screen to remain illuminated at all times so you can see the time.

It is very important for users to have a device that is optimized for long-term operation. They hope that the new S4 smartwatch will not only be thinner and lighter, but also offer excellent battery life.

Release date in Russia and price

So far, there is no clear answer to the question of when the wearable device will be released. Following the company's chronology, the last two watches were announced at the end of August before going on sale in November 2017. Most likely, the new product can be expected at the opening of IFA 2018 in late August - early September. It can also be assumed that the presentation of the next flagship will be along with the announcement of the next flagship Samsung smartphone in February 2018.

The approximate price of the Samsung Gear S4 will be around $600.

Update - 2018.06.27

The upcoming announcement of the Gear S4 may be evidenced by the appearance of a Samsung device on the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) website in the Regulatory and Reference Information database in the “Unified Register of Notifications on the characteristics of encryption (cryptographic) means and goods containing them.” And this means that the company is preparing its new device for release.

However, there is no detailed information about the gadget, only the name of the product in the form of 4 model brand names: SM-R800, SM-R805, SM-R810 and SM-R815. Probably, all these models in the line will differ in the presence or absence of some components, such as NFC, LTE, or other characteristics: sizes, materials, straps, color, etc.

Interestingly, the code name SM-R800 has previously appeared in a number of rumors from some news publications.

Update - 2018.07.10

New name for Galaxy Watch (Update 07/10/2018)

A reputable blogger under the nickname Ice Universe posted on his Twitter page the latest information about the upcoming Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch. The leaker noted that there is a possibility that the device will be called Galaxy Watch.

The tweet lists a number of characteristics of the new product, including a 470 mAh battery, the device’s ability to measure blood pressure and interact with the user in a new way. It is also noted that the watch will run on Android Wear, when, like all the company’s current wearable gadgets, they use Tizen OS.

Whether the information from Ice Universe will be confirmed remains to be seen.

Another confirmation that the next watch will have this name is the fact that the company registered the “Samsung Galaxy Watch” logo with the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Korea (KIPO) on June 20 this year.

But the document has the status “Pending Examination”, that is, the trademark application has been accepted by the Office (meets the minimum requirements for filing applications) and has not yet been transferred to the experts.

Bixby virtual assistant

According to Sammobile's website, the Gear S4 (Galaxy Watch) will come with Bixby support. This digital assistant has already been used in all flagship Galaxy smartphones, starting with the S8, but it has not yet reached wearable devices. Owners lucky enough to interact with voice control have been impressed by Bixby's ability to do almost everything with just one touch. It is worth noting that the voice assistant functions are currently not available in Russia.

The source claims that Bixby will indeed be present on Samsung's upcoming smartwatch. However, the innovation should not add an additional button to the device, unlike the company's flagship phones. Essentially, Bixby will replace S Voice as the main virtual assistant on the Gear S4, so it's likely that the home button on the watch will be used to access Bixby. And, of course, you can activate the assistant using the voice command “Hi, Bixby.”

Bixby 2.0 will offer faster response times and will be aimed at "expanding the industry's own ecosystem," Samsung Mobile Division chief DJ Koh said last year.

Greetings again to all my readers! A little surprise awaits you today. This time I will not tell you about another smartphone or tablet model; today in my post we will talk about the “smart watch” from Samsung - the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which I will review.

For those who want to read about something interesting, I decided to devote this material to watches. Samsung has released “smart watches” that are designed to create even more comfortable working conditions with a smartphone and tablet. Personally, I was very interested in this watch, and I want to, as they say, “feel it through.” Well, let's analyze and find the answers together.

What is Samsung Galaxy Gear?

Samsung Galaxy Gear is a watch that has a number of functionalities through interaction with a smartphone or tablet. To date, these watch models support only two models of Samsung gadgets: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.

The purpose of this watch is to synchronize with the gadget and speed up work with it, that is, you do not need to take your smartphone out of your pocket. Watches also help simplify life in some technical aspects.

The main display of the device contains a clock and weather information. Along with this, the watch has a camera that allows you to take photographs and shoot videos, as well as a number of functionalities: voice notes, gallery, voice control, dialing, etc. The ability to install various applications has been implemented. Communication with the gadget occurs via a Bluetooth connection.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy Gear v7000

To begin with, to understand what this watch is, let’s go over its parameters. Samsung Galaxy Gear includes:

Display 1.63 inches, with a resolution of 320x320 pixels;

Processor with a frequency of 800 MHz;

512 MB RAM;

4 GB of internal memory;

1.9 MP camera;

Data transfer type Bluetooth 4.0;

Battery capacity 315 mAh (enough for 25 hours).

Let's evaluate the parameters actually.

So, the 1.63-inch display, which has a resolution of 320x320 pixels, is quite good. Considering that this is a watch, and a priori it should not be too large, this is quite enough. By the way, the screen has 277 PPI, which provides a fairly high-quality picture in a watch. Well, if we consider these parameters from the point of view, not of a functional gadget, but of a functional watch, then this is absolutely great.

The processor, with a frequency of 800 MHz and 512 MB of RAM, is, in principle, not too bad for a smartphone. If we consider that such components are located inside the watch, which, in fact, is an additional gadget to the smartphone, then everything is fine here too.

4 GB of physical memory allows you to save a sufficient number of photos, videos and other information on the watch, and when it is full, you can always move the data to your smartphone, so there should be no problems. And if we consider that for most of us 4 GB is enough on the smartphone itself, then here too we can confidently give an “excellent” rating.

I was surprised by the presence of a camera in the watch strap, a kind of wrist response to the “Guglavsky” Google Glass. The camera resolution is 1.9 MP, corresponding to the resolution of the average front camera of a smartphone. I’ll talk about the benefits of having a camera in the watch a little lower, but as for the resolution, then you just have to evaluate the photographs taken with it, and you will understand everything yourself. The pictures have the quality that was in phones from 2006-2006. The resolution of photographs taken for hours at 1392×1392, let’s say, fully satisfies everyday needs for “quick photography”. As for the video, which takes hours to shoot, it is also of fairly acceptable quality, again, I repeat, for a “quick video.”

The Bluetooth transmission type is quite good, but in my opinion, the watch lacks Wi-Fi connectivity. But in general, Bluetooth speed is quite enough.

But I had several complaints about the battery. The battery capacity is enough for 25 hours of operation, that is, the user will need to charge the watch every day, and if this is not possible, then he will be without a watch. If we take into account that frequent charging cycles reduce the battery capacity, and also take into account the weather conditions of our country, then within six months the battery operating time in autonomous mode will drop by 20-30% on average. It turns out that the user will have enough battery charge for the “wakeful period”, that is, from morning to evening. For many, this will be enough, but, nevertheless, it is not very convenient and, in fact, ties the watch to the outlet.

Review and analysis of watches

In general, the watch is made quite well. The watch and the strap form a single unit, this is done because there are contacts inside the strap that lead to the camera and microphone. It is worth noting that it is possible to adjust the diameter of the strap, which is necessary in order to adapt to the hand of each user. The design of the watch, to be honest, is not for everybody, but it didn’t cause any complaints from me.

Synchronization is quite simple and works very well. Speaking of synchronization, since we touched on this topic. I didn't like that the watch can only work with two devices: the Note 3 smartphone and the Note 10.1 tablet. Thus, if you are not the proud owner of one of these Samsung creations, then there is no point in buying such a watch.

As a time and weather informer and control of some gadget functions, this watch is very good. As for the other functions, everyone may have an exclusively subjective opinion, as for me. Let's look at some of them below.

The benefits of having a camera for those who like to “catch” interesting moments from their lives will be very useful. Also, the camera will completely replace the one found in the smartphone, if you are not too picky about the quality of the pictures.

Working with voice commands in the watch is implemented, to put it mildly, rather weakly. The voice is recognized poorly, and sometimes even incorrectly. Therefore, if you want to purchase this watch as a voice assistant, then this is not the best option.

If we consider the watch as a quick way to control a smartphone and tablet, then everything is very good. You can note the ability to install applications and games. Therefore, you won’t be bored with this gadget.

To summarize the review, we would like to note that the device has a number of good features and is very functional and a good addition to your gadget. But, nevertheless, if we ignore the specific advantages and evaluate the model and its necessity, then it is more of a toy than a necessary gadget in everyday life. Considering the cost of 11 thousand rubles, not everyone will be able to allocate their hard-earned money for this “gaming” device.

Despite the fact that Samsung was supposed to update its line of smartwatches to the Gear S4 in the middle of this year, the manufacturer released the Samsung Gear Sport sports watch. So, instead of a new watch, we got a slightly simplified sports version of the Gear S3.

Thus, users now have a good choice between two watches: classic and sports, not to mention the new cool fitness bracelet Gear Fit2 Pro at a lower price. But what about the Samsung Gear S4? What will the watch look like, what functions will it receive, and most importantly, when should we expect it? The Galagram publication has collected all the available information about this gadget in this article.

Samsung Gear S4 release date

The last announcement of wearable gadgets from Samsung was at the end of August 2017. And in November, the new items officially went on sale in Russia and Ukraine. Given the trend, we likely won't see the Gear S4 until IFA 2018 at the end of August.

It is also possible that Samsung will present its flagship watch, as usual, in February 2018. We really hope that the presentation will take place at the beginning of 2018 and fans will not have to wait another half a year until IFA 2018. After all, during this time, users tired of waiting may look towards the Apple Watch or more affordable Xiaomi (Huami) watches.

Specifications

The Gear 4 will continue to feature a high-resolution circular touchscreen display. In 2017, Samsung announced its new Exynos 7 Dual 7270 processor, most likely it will become the heart of the new smartwatch. This chipset is powerful and does not consume a lot of power - perfect for wearable electronics. In addition to all this, it is equipped with a 4G LTE modem, which you will not find in the Gear S3 Sport.

Among other characteristics of the Samsung Gear S4, you can expect protection from moisture and dust, physical keys on the case and, as usual, excellent design and stylish appearance.

Features of Gear S4

The Gear S3 already has so many features available that, according to statistics, the average user does not use about 70% of them in everyday life. Good news for geeks: the Gear S4 will have even more of these features.

Edge display

If it works on the Galaxy, why not do the same trick with the Gear S4? So, we've seen phones with curved screens, but will such a display be used in watches? One of Samsung's patents suggests that such an outcome is very likely.

On the side of the screen, the Gear S4 will offer quick notifications with basic information such as date, time and weather. The display will also only rotate 90 degrees and is divided into top and bottom sections, although it's not clear from this patent why.

Charging via smartphone

It is possible that one of the main features of the Samsung Gear S4 will be the ability to charge directly from your smartphone. Today, almost all flagships and mid-range devices have large batteries (hello iPhone). Such devices can not only hold a charge all day, but also recharge external devices.

The same Xiaomi Mi Max 2 with a 5400 mAh battery can act as an external battery. In fact, the Samsung Gear S4 watch can be charged using a smartphone by simply connecting it via a USB Type-C port.

After testing the Samsung Galaxy Gear for several weeks, I'm sharing my thoughts on this smartphone-watch with internet, camera, and many other features.

Samsung Galaxy Gear - Reviews

The developers claim that this is truly an internet watch that boasts a camera, SMS and Facebook notification capabilities, with Facebook leaving the biggest impression. There is even a dialing option and you can use them to make calls. But, unfortunately, there is no Internet connection.

I couldn’t understand how relevant this technology was until I started using this watch, although I knew the arguments of the supporters by heart.

Samsung Galaxy Gear is a really interesting device. It's a mini smartphone with a tiny screen that you can wear on your wrist. I deliberately write a mini-smartphone, because the Galaxy Gear is also a full-fledged device. It has a processor with a frequency of 800 MHz, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, gyroscope, accelerometer, camera, battery and runs on a modified Android platform. It is possible to run external applications and it actually differs from smartphones of previous years only in its larger screen and the lack of 3G or WiFi.

View of Samsung Galaxy Gear

The appearance of the Samsung Galaxy Gear is strikingly different from the design of Samsung smartphones. The watch case is metal with massive screws, and the strap is ribbed. The color scheme of the straps is not very pleasing - white with golden metal, black, green, gray, orange and just white.

It seems to me that future versions will not be so luxurious, but the functions will be more thoughtful. At the very least, Gear needs to be developed in this direction.

Because the Gear today is primarily designed for viewing notifications that appear on a compatible smartphone. In addition, you can use it to take photos, measure time, launch applications, count steps, receive and make calls, control media on your smartphone and even a little more.

All these extra features may be useful, but I'm not sure if they're enough to satisfy and wow potential buyers. After all, this is a watch and it should perform functions different from those found on a smartphone.

For example, long battery life. In testing, the Gear's battery lasted two days, which is certainly longer than smartphones, but it's a watch. In addition, this gadget must be loaded together with the smartphone near the tablet or computer.

Samsung had to make a number of pretty important decisions when designing the Gear, because a smart watch should have a lot of bells and whistles.

Ease of use with Galaxy Gear

In everyday life, the most important thing is the ability to manage notifications. It’s a little difficult to get used to the fact that in addition to your phone, your watch can also vibrate, but when this happens, you realize how much easier the ability to view notifications on your watch makes life.

Provided that you get to the function of turning on notifications. Thanks to the Gear Manager application, a pairing is created between the smartphone and the smart watch. Gear Manager, the control settings application along with the clock applications, is a tragic work that discourages anyone from using this mechanism. Mainly because it's ugly, illogical and chaotic. Gear Manager often glitches, it says that it cannot connect to the watch, and all the settings do not work. In general, the mechanism clearly requires improvement.

For several days, I had no idea that the Gear supported more notifications than just selected Samsung apps. The option with the ability to integrate notifications with any received notifications from any application installed on the smartphone is hidden under the key of selecting/unselecting additional notifications. This is a huge problem with the Samsung interface - additional options will not work until you check the box. Moreover, there are options whose availability is not mentioned in the main menu.

Once the box was ticked, the Gear showed everything it was capable of. It started informing about emails from Gmail, what is happening on Twitter, Facebook or Instagramie and other applications that are used on a daily basis.

I quickly realized that while walking the dogs, when only one hand is free, checking email with the Gear allows me to avoid having to take my smartphone out of my pocket. After receiving a message on Facebook Messenger, I read it on Gearze, confirming that I can’t immediately unsubscribe without pulling out my smartphone.

It's for this reason—not the camera, pedometer, or other apps—that the Gear proved to me that a smartwatch makes sense.

Bottom line

I take back what I said about smartwatches being pointless. In addition, thanks to Samsung Galaxy Gear, I now know what should be in a universal watch:

An excellent notification management system with the ability to do things like Android notifications, a battery that can last at least a week on a charge (in this regard, the Samsung Galaxy Gear falls short of perfection), small size, user-friendly interface and elegant, but not anything remarkable design.

Smart watch Samsung Gear S4

4.6 (91.43%) 7 votes

The smartwatch market has been developing rapidly in recent years. According to statistics, the demand for wearable gadgets has increased by 25%. Leading companies are one by one supplying the market with new models of wrist devices with wide functionality. Thus, Samsung has been presenting the next (this time the fourth) modification from the Gear S line for a year in a row. Its closest competitors are companies such as Apple, Huawei, Garmin, Motorola, ASUS, Microsoft, Sony, etc. Will the new product be from a South Korean company a device that deserves attention? Detailed information about the new accessory will be available at the IFA ’2017 conference in Berlin.

release date

The previous watch model from Samsung, called Gear S3, was presented at the end of August 2016 in two variations - Classic and Frontier, and went on sale two months later (in November). It looks like the same will happen with the S4.

Smartwatch Samsung Gear S4

It is interesting that the new product will be presented two weeks earlier than its direct competitor – smart watches from Apple. This is often a very significant point, because manufacturers compete with each other not only in terms of the technical parameters of the devices they produce, but also in terms of audience coverage. At the moment, according to statistics, smart watches from a South Korean manufacturer are chosen by 5% of buyers, but devices from the Apple company are preferred in 14% of cases.

The International Consumer Electronics Fair (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin), held in Berlin, is a very successful platform for product presentation. All leading manufacturers will try to present their new products there. The South Korean company will not be an exception with its Gear S4 watch. The head of the Samsung Mobile department was notified of this event. The event is scheduled for September 1–6. Experts admit that the price of the device will vary within $350.

Specifications

The previous model from the Gear S line had good performance and reliability. However, it lost in some parameters compared to the latest version of the Apple Watch. The development company decided to take into account all the disadvantages, so the new 2017 product will combine flagship solutions, becoming more “sporty”.

The hardware in the watch will outperform all its closest competitors in terms of its characteristics. Samsung Gear S4 will be equipped with a variety of different sensors that will be able to track the physical indicators of its owner. Additional features of the new model will include heart rate tracking. This became possible thanks to special sensors. They can also help determine your stress level and the amount of water in your body.

The “smart” device will receive more reliable protection from water and dust. In these parameters, he will have to compete with the Watch Series 2 model from Apple, which allows you to dive up to 50 meters under water.

S4 will live up to expectations in terms of software, which will be expanded in the new product. For example, Samsung will add functions for training. At the same time, the price of the device for the consumer will become more affordable.

Smartwatch Samsung Gear S4

Design and controls

The wrist device will have a rounded body with curved edges, as, for example, in the Galaxy S7 Edge modification. The new product is equipped with a new touch strap that is suitable for physical activity. Earlier it became known that Samsung had registered a patent for it. Experts suggest that it will be equipped with a flexible, customizable screen where application shortcuts will be located for quick access to them. In general, the Korean giant already has similar solutions. Some sources indicate that the watch will be equipped with an optical zoom camera, which was also recently patented.

Expectations

Dong-Jin Koh (director of the mobile division of Samsung Electronics) expressed his opinion about the new product. He believes that the model will be an excellent replacement for previous generations of smart watches that the company has ever produced. However, the company representative did not disclose all the nuances with which the new device will attract attention. What we know today is that the Gear S4 contains many different biometric sensors. In this regard, the model significantly surpassed its predecessors.

Representatives of the development company previously announced their desire to combine a smartphone and a fitness bracelet, drawing all the most useful things from these gadgets. A fresh modification of a wearable gadget from Samsung could become a hit this fall, including in Russia, especially if the developers meet the following consumer expectations:

  • Compactness, which watches lack so much. They are quite large, despite the fact that overall they have a well-thought-out design. It would also not hurt to reduce their weight, since the S3 model was distinguished by its weight. Smaller dimensions and lightness are what is expected from a new product.
  • I would like to see an accurate tracker in the Samsung Gear S4. This function did not always work correctly in the previous modification. For example, automatic detection of the start of training sessions was not always error-free in practice. There were also issues with the GPS and heart rate monitor. The presented functionality in S3 was implemented poorly. The new model is expected to correct these errors.
  • What I wanted most from the new product was an increase in the number of applications. Their absence in early modifications is explained by the new Tizen operating system, which was developed by the company for its devices. No one doubts that Samsung will not introduce the popular Android Wear OS into the S4. All that remains is to attract developers to your operating product in order to create interesting and useful programs that were so lacking previously.
  • It is advisable for a new device to have a more capacious battery. In addition, the previous year's model did not have the useful Always On feature, which is already available in the Galaxy S7 and is capable of displaying the most necessary information on the display with minimal power consumption. Today it is available to all smartphones running Android 4.3 and higher.
  • A price reduction is expected for the 2017 model. For example, the cost of the Gear S3 has now dropped and is more affordable. This factor allowed the watch to become the main competitor to the Apple Watch 2.
  • What the previous modification really lacked was the presence of original functionality. It performed many tasks, but there was none that could justify the high cost of the device.
  • The S4 is expected to have an improved bezel. Previously it was used for menu navigation. The downside was the lack of a button to confirm the operation. Instead, you had to tap on the screen. This method seemed inconvenient to many, so this function requires improvement.
