If in the ODIN window the field ID:COM turned blue, like in the screenshot below, everything is fine - you can continue. If not, reinstall the drivers and restart the computer.

Files that can be found in the archive with the firmware

If there is only one file and takes up a lot of space, insert it into the field PDA. This is the firmware.

  • In the appropriate fields on the right, select the firmware files, based on the example above. IMPORTANT! Only checkboxes should be checked Auto Reboot And F. Reset Time.

  • This is what the program window looks like ready for firmware:

LineageOS continues the work of CyanogenMod, making new firmware for Android available to many users. For example, 5 year old. I decided to do a similar procedure for the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9192 mini dual sim (serranodsdd).

Once again I am convinced that it is better to choose one of the most popular smartphones, around which there will be a community of developers. Ideally, it is now better to choose an Android smartphone only if it comes with Android 8 Oreo (and not with the previous version updated to Android 8 Oreo) and meets the requirements of Project Treble. Such smartphones are required to boot on pure AOSP (Android Open Source Project), so alternative firmware for them is developed much faster. Plus, Project Treble helps smartphone manufacturers to separate their own additions to Android, which has a beneficial effect on the frequency of firmware updates in general (however, you still won’t get official firmware without the smartphone manufacturer).

Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9192 boasts the presence of official LineageOS 14.1 firmware, even if these are still nightly builds, and not firmware classified as stable.

How to install Android 7.1 Nougat (LineageOS 14.1) firmware for Samsung Galaxy S4 mini dual sim (serranodsdd)
Caution: When flashing a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini dual sim (serranodsdd) phone, something can always go wrong. Please also note that the instructions are written for S4 mini dual sim and it can only be used for this version of the smartphone.

Before flashing, be sure to back up your contacts, photo and video files, as well as documents from your smartphone.

  1. Install Heimdall. Some Samsung devices use the "Download mode" boot method, which is very similar to "Fastboot mode" for devices with an unlocked bootloader. Heimdall (Windows, Linux, MacOS) - a tool for interacting with Samsung devices in "Download" mode. The preferred method for installing an alternative recovery environment (Custom Recovery) is through boot mode, when root access is not required.

To install Heimdall on Ubuntu 17.10, just type the following in the terminal:
    sudo apt-get install heimdall-flash heimdall-flash-frontend

As an alternative to Heimdall on Windows, you can use Odin. Firmware can also be installed using the TWRP or ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) recovery environment.

  2. Download the TWRP recovery environment in .img format. I used twrp-3.2.1-0-serranodsdd.img.

  3. Turn off the power of your Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9192 mini dual sim (serranodsdd) smartphone.

  4. Boot the phone into "Download mode" by holding down the "Home", Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously (release when the warning "Warning: A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications" appears on the screen). Agree with the warning , selecting Continue (press the volume up button). A green robot should appear on the screen with the inscription "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!"

  5. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9192 to your computer using a USB cable (drivers will be needed in Windows).

  6. On your computer, open a terminal (or command line) and go to the folder with the downloaded TWRP image.
    cd ~/Downloads

  7. Install TWRP on your phone by typing in the terminal:
    heimdall flash --RECOVERY twrp-3.2.1-0-serranodsdd.img --no-reboot
where twrp-3.2.1-0-serranodsdd.img is the name of the file with the downloaded TWRP image. An indicator bar will appear on the phone showing the installation progress. If an error occurs with insufficient rights, on Ubuntu the command must be executed with sudo.

Wait for the operation to complete. If successful, you will see the following text in the terminal:
    Session started.

    Downloading device"s PIT file...
    PIT file download successful.

    Uploading RECOVERY
    100%
    RECOVERY upload successful

    Ending session...
    Releasing device interface...

  8. After installing TWRP, disconnect the USB cable from the phone and turn off the power (I removed the battery).

  9. Boot the phone into Recovery mode by simultaneously holding down the "Home", Volume Up and Power buttons (note that in the first case you used the Volume Down button, and in the second - the Volume Up button).

  10. Click "Select Language", select "Russian" and click "OK".

  11. After booting, TWRP prompts you to leave the system partition. Because returning to the old official firmware does not interest me, and their updates are not expected, then of course I did not leave the system partition by selecting “Swipe - allow changes”.

  12. Install Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on your computer, a tool that allows you to send many commands to your phone in the terminal. For ADB to work, USB debugging must be enabled on your Android smartphone. Commands can be sent both when the phone is turned on and in Recovery mode. Root access on your smartphone is not required to use ADB.

To install Android Debug Bridge on Ubuntu, just type the following command in the terminal:
    sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb

  13. Download LineageOS firmware for serranodsdd from the official LineageOS website. I used lineage-14.1-20180126-nightly-serranodsd d-signed.zip.
Reset the firmware on your phone to the /sdcard/ folder using ADB:
    adb push lineage-14.1-20180126-nightly-serranodsd d-signed.zip /
Replace the name of the .zip archive with the name of your firmware.

  14. Download Google Apps. I used OpenGapps for ARM and Android 7.1 in the nano version (GMail, Calendar, Youtube and other applications can always be installed later from Google Play) - open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20180128.zip.
    Drop open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20180128.zip on your smartphone:
    adb push open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20180128.zip /sdcard/
Replace the name of the .zip archive with the name of your GApps.

  15. In the recovery environment TWRP Recovery, make a backup copy. This is a recommended but not required step. I usually ignore him, although of course it’s better not to do this.

  16. In the TWRP Recovery recovery environment, select “Wipe” -> “Custom Wipe”, check Dalvik/ART Cache, Cache, System, Data and clear them.

  17. Return to the main menu by pressing the Back button.

  18. Click on "Install" and select the firmware from the /sdcard/ folder. Add the GApps archive and any other additional packages. For example, you can add root using LineageOS su add-on (I did without root solely for the sake of security and the inability to use some banking applications with root).

  19. Once the installation is complete, click "Clear cache/dalvik".

  20. After clearing the cache, reboot your phone by clicking on "Reboot OS".

  21. If you wish, you can install TWRP as a system application.

  22. After the reboot, set up your phone by entering the login and password for your Google account (if you installed GApps, of course).

  23. Profit!

If after flashing everything works, but the phone does not see the SIM card, then you need to flash a new bootloader and modem. Similarly, download ZIP archives on your phone and flash using TWRP or ClockworkMod.

Before returning to the old version of the firmware or bootloader, make sure that this procedure did not turn the smartphone into a brick for other users.

Please note that these instructions are mostly intended for more experienced users. Therefore, beginners can also take risks, but you will still be responsible for the consequences yourself. Moreover, under no circumstances should these instructions be used with other Galaxy S4 mini models, of which there are quite a few on the market.

2. Download and Install the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.9.0.exe driver as Administrator, then restart the computer.
(Attention: If the divers are not installed (this happens, the problem comes out when performing step 4), then you will have to:

3. Download and install the latest version of KIES (or) as Administrator, then restart the computer. (The Kies program can be uninstalled after the firmware is finished))

4. Charge your phone battery to at least 75%, preferably 100%. Connect the phone with a cable to the computer (to the port on the BB system board, these ports are mainly located on the back, next to the network card connector), wait for the drivers to be installed and disconnect the phone from the computer. I advise (not necessarily, but just in case) to enable USB debugging - “Settings” > “Options” > “About device” and tap on the build version many times, the developer options will open, check “USB debugging” there.

5. Disable antivirus on your computer.

6. Close, if installed, Kies on the computer (if open) and from the task manager end processes named Kies...

7. Unpack Odin_v3.07.zip and the firmware file (preferably in a separate directory, some recommend in the root of the disk).

8. Run as Administrator from the prepared directory Odin3 v3.07.exe

9. Press:
a) if sewn with Odin_3.07 - PDA button, or
b) if sewn with Odin_3.09, then the AP button;
Then find it in the window that opens and select the firmware file. Check the “Autoreboot” checkbox (usually when you start Odin, this checkbox is already checked, then you just don’t need to touch it).

10. Switch the phone to firmware mode: with the phone turned off, press and hold the Vol.Down (Volume down) + Home (center button) + Power (on/off button) buttons and release them immediately after vibration and the phone starts turning on. Wait for the yellow warning triangle.

11. Confirm the transition to the firmware mode (Odin mode) with the Vol.Up button. A green robot will appear and the words “Downloading” and “Do not turn ....”

12. Connect the phone with a cable to the computer (preferably to the same port on the BB system board from which the drivers were installed in step 4. Let me remind you that these ports are mainly located at the back, next to the network card connector) and, if necessary, wait for a new one installing drivers on your computer (this happens, so don’t rush).

13. In the upper left part of the One program, a small blue window will light up indicating the COM port number. The same number (COM port number) will appear in the window at the bottom left. This means that the drivers have been installed correctly and everything is ready for flashing. Click Start.

14. After pressing Start, on the phone under the green robot and the inscription “Downloading” there will be a blue download bar, and on the computer in Odin in the upper left window the words BOOT, RECOVERY, SYSTEM, MODEM, CACHE, HIDDEN and eventually RESET will appear on a white background on a blue background. The phone will reboot and installation of the firmware on the phone will continue. Without touching anything, without disconnecting the body from the computer, you need to wait for the firmware to finish and the green window with the inscription PASS.

15. Disconnect the cable (the message “Removed!” will appear in the window at the bottom left) and press Exit on Odin.

16. Here, on the advice of some experts, the body can (but not necessarily) be overloaded by holding Power (on/off button) for a long time.
And you have new firmware.

Everything is ready :) As a result, ALL actions from 1 to the last point should take no more than 25-30 minutes, including rebooting the BB after installation.
