Lingvo dictionary + photo translator from English into Russian and 8 other languages

The powerful database of dictionaries in the ABBYY Lingvo application provides first-class and accurate translation online and offline. The basic set of 10 dictionaries is free, but if you need something more than an ordinary translator, you will have to pay. Among the advantages is a good search - by entering a word, not only the translation appears, but also variants of use in the bulk of phrases.

The translator also has a quick translation from the camera, but it works awkwardly, only for one word. To translate an entire sentence or page, developers sell a separate application that costs 379 rubles.

Another feature of the translator are cards - phrases or words that you want to learn can be added to a separate section.

Both corporations, Yandex and Google, are trying to promote their services in all directions. The Yandex.Translator application stands out for its simplicity and good functionality - there is translation without the Internet, a photo translator, and voice input. And, of course, it is absolutely free.

From my own experience I can say with complete confidence that simultaneous translation works very well even with a poor Internet connection. Large texts from photos are translated 50/50, sometimes the application cannot recognize the text at all.

There is also a great feature with which you can quickly delete written text - you just need to swipe to the left and the input field will become empty.

The translator is interesting for certain functions that competitors do not have - a translator keyboard and a widget in the notification center. Otherwise, the translator is very simple and understandable; it can read entire sentences and store favorites in a separate section. For the majority of languages, there are voice translation settings - you can choose which voice will be read, female or male, as well as the reading speed.

iTranslate is free, but it has an advertising banner at the bottom, however, you can turn it off by purchasing iTranslate Premium for 529 rubles, which also includes speech recognition and translations with large amounts of text.

It seems to me that this is the best and most convenient translator for iPhone and iPad. Google has all of the above features absolutely free and all in a nice and user-friendly interface. Translating text from photos works perfectly, failures are very rare. There is even quite tolerable handwriting input. I don’t understand who it was made for, but the fact that it exists is already a plus.

The translation history is conveniently made, which is located immediately below the input field - there is no need to search for recently translated words and sentences in different categories. But Google Translate has a big disadvantage - it cannot work without an Internet connection.

Microsoft Translator

The translator from Microsoft is still quite young; the application appeared in the App Store last summer, but has already managed to win over some users. The developers have focused on simultaneous translation, which makes it possible to communicate with people without knowing their language.

You just need to open the translator on your iPhone and Apple Watch, activate the instant translation function and give the iPhone to your interlocutor - the application will show the translation simultaneously on the smartphone and watch. True, it doesn’t function very accurately now, and there aren’t many languages, although there is Russian, which is good.

They didn’t forget to add the necessary functions to the application, such as translation from photos - it was done well and conveniently. The translator is absolutely free, but you don’t need to expect anything unusual from it yet; the application has many minor errors and shortcomings.
