In order to start setting up the D-Link DIR-300 router, open the box and boldly tear off the orange sticker from the router. You can forget about the sticker.

We connect the router to the computer using the wire (blue patch cord) supplied in the kit.

First, open your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox) and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.

Connecting via a wireless network to a router may not always be successful, since in addition to your router there may be others available, it is possible to connect and configure someone else's D-Link DIR-300 router.

Login: admin

Password:(we leave the field empty, although out of habit I want to enter admin)

On the "Installation" tab, select the "Internet Installation" tab, and then the "Manually set up an Internet connection" button.

Looking ahead, I will say that the address on the provider’s local network can be issued dynamically or be static, usually at the request of the user. For a static address, providers usually ask for an additional subscription fee. There are two options D-Link DIR-300 router settings, depending on the type of receiving addresses in your case, I personally use a static address, it’s more convenient.

Setting up a D-Link DIR-300 router with dynamic IP address assignment.

Option D-Link DIR-300 router settings No. 1, if the address is obtained via DHCP, i.e. dynamically.

In the “Internet connection type” field, select “PPTP Dual Access” (namely dual access, I don’t know the fundamental difference, but this is how you need to do it).

1. Select a connection with dynamic address assignment by the provider "Dynamic IP address".

2. MAC address – if the provider’s network has a binding by MAC address, click MAC address cloning, and router D-Link DIR-300 will copy the MAC address from the network adapter of your computer, this is important in cases where the router was not purchased at the time of connection to the provider.

3. IP address/server name – IP/Server name of the provider.

4. PPTP account – username for authorization in the provider’s network.

6. Re-enter the PPTP password – we repeat the password for authorization in the provider’s network.

7. Select the connection mode - connection setup mode. In the figure, "Always-on" is selected for permanent connection. "Connect-on-Demand" - establishing a connection when necessary - that is, when traffic directed to the Internet appears, the router establishes a connection, and if there is no activity for more than the time specified in "Maximum Idle Time", it disconnects. If you select "Manual", the connection is established and terminated manually.

8. Save changes to

2. IP address - the address issued to you by your provider.

3. Subnet mask.

4. Provider gateway.

5. DNS – DNS Server of the provider.

6. MAC address - if the provider’s network has a binding by MAC address, click Cloning MAC address, and the router will copy the poppy from the network adapter of your computer, this is important in cases where the router was not purchased at the time of connection to the provider.

7. IP address/server name – IP/Server name of the provider.

8. PPTP account – username for authorization in the provider’s network.

10. Re-enter the PPTP password – we repeat the password for authorization in the provider’s network.

11. Select connection mode - connection setup mode.

12. Save changes to settings of the D-Link DIR-300 router by clicking the "Save settings" button.

After correct settings, the connection router D-Link DIR-300 Internet connection must be installed, as indicated by the "Internet Online" indicator on the left side of the browser screen.

From the title it is clear that the text deals with only one revision. In fact, there are several of them: B5, B6, B7. Setting up Dlink DIR 300 is the same in each case. By the way, this is about the 300NRU model and nothing else. The device called Dlink DIR 300 was produced in different revisions. So, revision “A” was called Dir300 rev A, but then, with the transition to version “B”, the letters NRU were added. For brevity, we will call the model as before - that is, DLink DIR 300 without NRU.

Two main rules

For DLink routers and for some others, there are two rules. If these rules are violated, changes are simply not saved on many models. But in the Dir300 family everything looks worse - the hardware may deteriorate. Pay attention to the photo below.

How to save settings

The rules look like this:

  • After setting the parameters on any page, save the settings;
  • For the new values to take effect, the router must be rebooted!

On each page of the router interface there are the necessary buttons: “Save”, “Save”. and Reboot".

By default, the address of our router is 192.168.0.1. The password is the word “admin” and the login is also “admin”. Let's look at how to configure the dir 300 router correctly and without problems:

  1. We connect the LAN port and the computer with a patch cord;
  2. We plug the provider's cord into the WAN port;
  3. On the computer, in “Connection Status”, select “Properties” and configure “Internet Protocol” to automatically obtain DNS and IP.
  4. Turn on the power on the router.

After 5-6 seconds, you will be able to enter the web interface by going to the address specified here in your browser. It is suitable for all D-Link devices, including Dlink DIR300 and other routers.

Firmware version 1.3 displays a “white-blue” interface. For version 1.4 the interface will be “black”.

Two different versions

Don't be alarmed, this is how it should be. On a router with “new” firmware, select “Advanced settings” in the bottom line. In the “old” interface, click “Manually configure.”

L2TP in a router with new firmware

In the web interface, or rather in the “Advanced Settings”, go to the “Network” -> “WAN” tab. Here we look at where to start setting up Dlink DIR 300. And it starts with deleting old connections! Select them with checkmarks and click “Delete”. Then click “Add” and the router will display a new tab.

Setting up L2TP with Dynamic IP

Here you need to select the protocol type. Let it be “L2TP + dynamic IP”.

Below is a step-by-step correct setup of Dlink Dir 300 on L2TP:

  1. Ethernet block: This is where you can only clone the MAC if required. The WAN port of the router will receive the address of the network card.
  2. IP block: here you need to enable IGMP if you watch IPTV via a PC (not via a set-top box). D-Link has already enabled NAT and Firewall settings.
  3. VPN block: set the login and password, as well as the VPN server address. We check that NAT and Firewall are enabled, click “Apply”.

Please note that in the router settings dir 300 nru there is an IGMP parameter. Moreover, it does not seem to be used at the VPN level. However, IPTV works.

Setting up PPTP on older firmware

Study Chapter II first. You can do everything the same way. But if the configuration of the dir 300 router always looked the same, Chapter III simply would not exist.

WAN connections tab

Firstly, on the “Network” -> “WAN” tab, delete the connection by clicking on its line - the “Change/Delete” buttons appear. No need to add a new connection, it is better to fix the factory one (from D-Link).

Example of dir 300 settings for “PPTP with dynamic IP”:

  1. Ethernet block: clone MAC, if required;
  2. IP block: no changes;
  3. Block “Miscellaneous”: NAT and “Firewall” - necessary, and IGMP - if required;
  4. VPN block: set the login and password, as well as the VPN server address!
  5. If you check the “Keep Alive” checkbox, you will need to set an IP address that is always available on the Internet;
  6. All settings for the NRU are saved using, for example, the button on top. The connection starts working immediately!

As you can see, the “old interface” is not so different from the “new” one.

TCP/IP and VPN connection

In the first revisions of the DLink DIR300 model, everything looks wrong. And in general, each level is configured separately: first TCP/IP, then VPN.

Wireless network

The wifi settings on dir 300 will not take effect until the device is rebooted.

Tabs for Wi-Fi

The old interface has two important tabs - “Basic Settings” and “Security Settings”. Both tabs are contained in the “Wi-Fi” group. And the main thing is that some kind of basic network on the router is configured initially.

For the DLink dir 300 model, you do not need to set the encryption to “Mixed”. It is better to select the “WPA2” mode, set a password and save the settings. The same applies to the “B/G/N” mode – it is better to set the “802.11N” option. If there are devices that do not support this protocol, go to the "802.11G" protocol, as well as "WPA-AES" or "WPA-TKIP". Actually, the DLink DIR 300 device is a budget router, and you don’t need to want too much from it.

In the same way as indicated above, DLink dir 300 nru is configured when it comes to firmware 1.4. The names of the tabs in the new interface will be the same. By default the network is called DIR300. This “name” can be left. Well, the password must contain 8 characters, including English letters.

Let's look at how to reduce power. Sometimes this helps improve the router's wifi connection. That is, a network with reduced power works more reliably.

Reducing power

In the interface, go to the “Wi-Fi” -> “Advanced Settings” tab. Set the power of the router to 50 or 25, click “Apply”.

How to configure dir 300 to a fixed channel is what users ask most often. First find out which channel is free:

  1. Let's say a Wi-Fi card “sees” networks on several channels: 1,5,7,10;
  2. For yourself, that is, for the router, choose number 3 or 13. However, you need to be careful with the numbers 12 and 13 - devices from the USA do not work with them.

On the “Basic Settings” tab, instead of “auto”, select a number. Then select “Save” from the top menu. and Reboot". This completes the configuration of the dir 300 router.

Why do you need additional settings?

On any PC you can access DNS settings in 4 clicks.

Connection Properties

The same is provided in the interface of routers, even budget ones, such as Dlink DIR300. Open the “Advanced” tab -> “Name Servers”, check the “Manual” checkbox. One of the addresses has already been installed by D-Link - this is a Google server.

Set the desired value, for example "8.8.4.4"( This is a standard DNS from Google, it is better to use it and not the one provided by the provider). Click Apply. The settings take effect immediately, but it is better to restart your computer.

Static DNS configured

To return to “automatic receiving”, the DLINK DIR 300 interface provides a trivial method: you need to uncheck the “Manual” checkbox and click “Apply”.

Firmware update

Each version of the router needs its own suitable firmware. Let us remind you once again: the device called DLink Dir300 was produced in several revisions. First, let's look at the label, where you can see the inscription “H/W ver. B6". This means that the file intended for the DIR 300 NRU B6 or B5 router is suitable. Look for firmware on the Dlink website. Address:

The D-Link file extension is “bin”.

When it comes to “B” revisions, there are three groups:

  • B1, B2 and B3 – first group;
  • DIR 300 NRU B5 and B6 – second;
  • DIR 300 NRU B7 is a separate group of routers.

All routers in the same group are compatible with each other. Both the old and the new interface have a “System” -> “Software Update” tab.

Firmware update

Click “Browse”, find the file with the D-Link firmware, “open” it and click “Update”. You need to wait 5-7 minutes, and then the router will reboot.

At first glance, everything looks simple. However, if power is lost, the router will fail. We must take the necessary measures. How to connect Dlink DIR 300:

  • To the UPS, without connecting the computer, but by turning on, for example, a 40W lamp;
  • To a battery with a voltage of 4.8-5.5 Volts, capable of delivering a current of 2A;
  • To a car battery using a DC-DC adapter (the best way).

How to connect PC:

  • Doesn't matter.

Recovery via Emergency Server

If the firmware has failed, the router will not start. The Emergency option will help. It is provided initially for all DLink Dir300 devices. There is only one note: for revision B1 you need the “blue patch cord” from the kit.

First, we disconnect everything from the router except one PC. On it, that is, on the computer, we set the address from the Dlink DIR300 subnet. Let it be "192.168.0.2". The gateway is the address of our router.

  1. Check PC settings;
  2. Disconnect power from the router;
  3. Wait, press the reset button on the router, apply power;
  4. After 15-20 seconds, release reset, wait a minute;
  5. Open the interface through a browser;
  6. Select the D-Link firmware, click “Upload”, wait and configure the router again.

Recovery interface

The router address, even if it has been changed, is still used as standard.

The setup can be done any number of times. You can save settings about a million times. But you can update the firmware on the router 100 or 200 times. This is done for all routers at once - for D-Link, Asus and even ZyXEL.

We said that all routers need different firmware, although the setup is done the same way. Let's examine the insides.

Revision 1, 5 and 7

Well, different revisions of D-Link routers do have differences. You can also find “clones”:

  • B1 is D-Link Dir-600 B1-B2;
  • B5 – ZyXEL Keenetic Start, D-Link Dir-600 B5.

All D-Link routers mentioned in the text have been discontinued.

D-Link Warranty

If the router does not save the settings, it will be replaced under warranty. Most often, it is not the router itself that is to blame, but the power supply. After installing “third-party software,” the warranty is canceled, as the router may begin to overheat. All D-Link routers are designed for proprietary software.

In general, D-Link routers have pros and cons:

  • Weak power supply – bad;
  • The router is designed for 5V – good;
  • Etc.

Incorrect configuration of any router does not lead to failure. D-Link also has a sane support service. In addition, its effect extends not only to routers.

New router - do not buy

A hacker buys a D-Link router, installs third-party software and rejoices.

Gift

In reality it doesn't look like this:

  1. We buy a new router;
  2. We change the software;
  3. The router is overheating;
  4. The main chip on the router receives a heatsink;
  5. There is no overheating, but the power supply supplied with the router no longer works!

Buy another power supply. But it can cost as much as half a new router.

Here's what D-Link benefits from:

  1. So that the router falls out of warranty;
  2. So that the supplied power supply is not used;
  3. Let the person tell you what kind of router he has, keeping silent about the costs.

On sites dedicated to setting up routers, they usually give advice: buy a D-Link router if you know what to do with it. And D-Link brand routers are still at the peak of demand. Are they all hackers?

Modified router on video

What is this Wi-fi for? This is the question that is probably the stupidest thing related to the Internet right now. It so happens that our computer and digital technologies are developing at incredible speed. For example, the most popular products now are: smartphones, tablets and laptops.

All of these devices, as a rule, already have an adapter installed to receive a WI-FI signal, which allows you to use wireless Internet in all corners of your home. Some people just want to get rid of long and unnecessary cords throughout all the rooms, which in the future will simply fall under their feet. A Wi-Fi router that will distribute the Internet signal throughout the house will help us solve both situations.

But buying the router itself and unpacking it and putting it on a shelf is not all. You also need to connect a cable to the Internet and configure the device itself to receive and distribute the signal. Right now I will show you in detail how to set up a Dlink Dir 300 wifi router. If you have a different router, you can do everything in the same way, but if it’s a different one, it’s okay, setting up all routers is almost the same, there are only minor differences in the interface.

Next, I will tell you how to correctly connect and set the settings in the D-Link DIR-300 Wi-Fi router to distribute wireless Internet, as well as how to install a key on a Wi-Fi network to protect your connection from freebies.

Connecting the D-Link DIR-300 router

1. Opening the box you should find the following contents:

  • The Wi-Fi router itself;
  • Power cable;
  • 1.5 m patch cable;
  • Installation disk with drivers;
  • Manual;
  • Warranty card;

If this entire set is present, then take the router, a cord for connecting to the outlet and a patch cord, and move on to the next step.

2. So, you can place the device anywhere, as long as there is access to an outlet and the Internet cord can reach it. If you use a standard cable to connect, then, of course, you will have to place it near the computer. But, in the future, you can buy a long cable on the radio market, in specialized stores, or crimp the cable yourself for further movement around the house.

Let's first look at all the router connectors that are located on the back side:

  1. Button to reboot or reset the router settings;
  2. Power connector;
  3. Input for connecting an Internet cable;
  4. Four LAN ports for local computer connection.

A fully connected device should look like this: first, connect the power supply to the router, then to the port called “ Internet" (V On other routers it may be called WAN or be painted in some color different from the four LAN ports), we connect the Internet cable from the provider and finally plug the network cord that you found in the router package into any of the LAN ports, and the other side into the computer.

Everything is ready, the device is connected and ready for configuration.

Setting up WiFi router D-Link DIR-300

1. To start setting up the D-Link DIR-300 router, we need to go to its interface; to do this, in any Internet browser we enter one of the following IP addresses 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. The router interface will open where to start the work you need to enter a username and password, immediately try the standard ones: admin, admin. By pressing “Enter” its settings should open.

You can find the network address and data for a standard account on a sticker located on one of the sides of the router or read step-by-step instructions on how to get into its interface. If you have tried all possible options and still cannot get into the settings menu, you will most likely have to return the router to its original settings.

2. At the very beginning, let's change the default password “admin” to a more secure one so that no one can hack it. To do this, select “ System» –> « Administrator password" In the field with the user name, select “ admin" and indicate your preferred password. I recommend using passwords of more than 8 characters with capital letters and always numbers.

After entering the password, double-click on the “Save” button to change the standard password.

Setting up the Internet in the D-Link DIR-300 WiFi router

To set up the Internet in the D-Link DIR-300 router, you need to go to “ Net", and then " Compound" and here select the connection called " WAN", clicking on it with the left mouse button.

In the next window you need to check all the boxes as indicated below. In field " MAC» leave the MAC address set by default, if the company that provides you with Internet services uses binding by MAC addresses, then Most likely you will have to copy the physical address of your computer into this field.

Setting up a Wi-Fi network and its security on the D-Link DIR-300 router

1. By going to the tab " WiFi"click on " basic settings" Here we give the name of the Wi-Fi network by writing it in the “ SSID» and indicate the region in which you are currently located.

To save the settings, click " Change».

So, in the field " Network authentication"select the next type of protection" WPA2-PSK" In line " PSK encryption key"Enter the password that will be used in the future when connecting to Wi-Fi. The recommendations are the same: use capital and small letters with numbers. In the WPA encryption settings, specify the following type “TKIP”.

Again, to save, click “ Change».

Completing the setup of the D-Link DIR-300 Wi-Fi router

Having saved all the parameters, we will need to do this again and restart the router. Moving to the upper right corner, point to the word “ System"In the drop-down window, select "".

By rebooting the device, you can say with confidence that the setup of the D-Link DIR-300 home router is complete. As you can see, there is nothing complicated and I’m just sure that you can easily cope with it. I’ll tell you even more that the technicians who come to the call to configure the router do all the same actions that I described above. So, read everything carefully and you will be able to save money on calling a specialist.

A router (from the English word route - path, route) is a device that allows you to make a high-speed connection between your home network and an external one, acting as a gateway for it. In simple terms, a router (or router, which is the same thing) is something like a cell tower, only with a much more modest “broadcast” range. This device evenly distributes the Internet received from the provider across all devices of the private network, allowing you to connect to the network at once, for example, a desktop PC, laptop, tablet and smartphone.

Wifi Router d link 300 has earned a reputation as a reliable and proven device that provides excellent communication quality, and is currently one of the most popular Wi-Fi routers. If you have joined the ranks of owners of this wonderful “device,” then, of course, you will need to connect and configure it so that all your devices have access to the Internet. It is worth noting that the “specialists” of some unscrupulous providers ask for an absolutely disproportionate amount of money for this service, so this information can be very useful. Let's start from the very beginning.

After opening the package, it is best to immediately make sure that the dlink router is fully equipped, if you have not already done so when purchasing. It must include the following components:

  1. Directly the wifi router d link dir 300.
  2. Blue Ethernet cable for connecting to a computer or laptop.
  3. Power adapter.
  4. CD with software.
  5. User manual.

Preparation (first stage)

Stage two (enabling and setting up Wifi connection)

If all the steps in the first stage of setup are completed correctly, then your Internet should work via an Ethernet cable, so now you need to set up Wi-Fi to connect other devices to the router. To do this you need:

  1. Go to advanced settings in the admin panel of dlink routers. In the wifi section, you need to make sure that the green switch is in the on position.
  2. Now go to the main settings section and check the box next to “enable wireless connection”. Enter your login into the appropriate field, and then click the “change” button.
  3. You need to ensure that your private wireless network is protected from free Internet lovers and from random connections. Go to the “security settings” section, which is located in the router’s administrative panel, then in the “network authentication” field select WAP2-PSK, and in the “PSK encryption key” column indicate the password you created in advance. It must be no shorter than eight characters and consist of letters of the Latin alphabet and a digital code. The settings must be saved by clicking on the “change” button in the lower right corner of the screen. Otherwise, it cannot be guaranteed that you are the only user of your wi-fi network.
  4. Next, in order to protect your router from unwanted connections via Lan networks and Wi-Fi, it is best to set a strong password by going to the advanced settings mode on the main page.

This is important: after you have correctly configured the wi-fi router d link dir 300, it is best to save the settings separately on a flash drive or on the hard drive of your computer, so as not to repeat this entire procedure again next time. To do this, in the administrative panel of dlink routers, go to the section called System in the “Configuration” tab and save the current configuration in a special file with settings in the selected location, indicating the required address. In order to restore settings from a file, you need to select loading a previously saved configuration, respectively specifying the path to the file or entering the address manually.

Firmware update

Each wireless Wi-Fi router has its own firmware version. Manufacturers usually have special laboratories in which they constantly test their own devices and correct minor errors found in the operation; therefore, it is advisable to install the latest firmware version on the wi-fi router. For this:

  • Go to the admin panel by entering the address written on the back of the device into any Internet browser.
  • In the window that opens, you can see all the characteristics and detailed information about the device. The current firmware version is indicated between the field with the model of the wi-fi router and the time of its assembly.
  • Having remembered or written down the firmware numbers on a piece of paper, you need to go to the manufacturer’s website ftp://dlink.ru/pub, from where you can install the latest firmware. Updating a wi-fi router takes a short period of time.

Indication of the front panel of the router

  1. Power button. If the indicator is green, it means the router is turned on and working normally. If it lights up yellow, this indicates either that the router is in the process of rebooting, or that it is malfunctioning.
  2. If the Internet button on the front panel of the router is illuminated in green, it means that the connection has been established and you can connect devices via wifi; if the button is blinking green, data is currently being transferred. Yellow color indicates that the connection is not established.
  3. The wifi icon is highlighted in green - you can connect devices via Wi-Fi, flashing green indicates data is being transmitted.
  4. The green illumination of the local network icon on the front panel of the router means that the device is connected to the corresponding port.
  5. The side panel of the router is equipped with a button for instantly adding a new device to the Wi-Fi network. The button, in turn, has an LED that, when trying to establish a Wi-Fi connection, blinks blue; if the connection is successful, the LED lights up blue, and if there is a connection error, the LED lights up yellow.

What else do you need to know in order to connect and configure a d link router?

  • As mentioned above, a router is a kind of tower for relaying cellular network signals. You've probably noticed that they are usually located at the highest points of the city, so if you hide your router in a closet, the strength of the wi-fi signal will leave much to be desired.
  • In order to set up a wi-fi network, you need to go to the admin panel of the router and in the wifi section go to the “basic settings” window. Here you can rename the access point SSID and make changes to other settings, but it is recommended to leave them at default. Don't forget to save your settings.
  • The additional settings section allows you to change the Wi-Fi signal strength in the range from 0 to 100 percent. You can slightly reduce the Wi-Fi power if the connection is very good. Other parameters should not be changed out of simple curiosity unless you clearly know what you are doing.
  • You can additionally specify the address of the router's static routes, but in most cases this is not required.
  • Check that in the properties of the TCP/IP protocol in the “network connections” section, the “automatically obtain an IP address” option is selected. The DNS address must also be set to “obtain automatically”.
