Laptops with IPS display. A laptop with a good screen: tips for choosing. Mediocre laptop screens

Display quality is one of the most important parameters that a user takes into account when purchasing a laptop. A gamer, an office worker, a designer, an IT specialist, a photographer, and any person who is concerned about their eyesight is sure to pay attention to this indicator. We have collected the TOP 3 best laptops of 2017 with a good screen and now we will introduce you to them.

Laptop Samsung Chromebook Plus

We will talk about a model that sees the goal and does not see obstacles. The Samsung Chromebook Plus laptop with incredible versatility may well become the headliner of sales in 2017. However, let's not get ahead of ourselves and actually figure out what it is.

  1. Design This laptop doesn’t stand out in any way from its competing models, but it can’t be called mediocre either. On the contrary, the simplicity and elegance of this “machine” attracts the eye and makes it admired. The aluminum case is made in silver and, compared to the size of most laptops, is not so wide, so at first you need to get used to it, get used to it or something. The lid has rounded edges and looks quite laconic. The only things that stand out are the monochrome Chrome logo and the Samsung brand printed on it. The model has durable hinges that open 360 degrees. They allow the user to pin the screen wherever they want. This makes it possible to work in any convenient mode - laptop or tablet. It’s worth saying that the Samsung Chromebook Plus still feels a little more confident as a tablet, but perhaps this is also a matter of habit. The model is not replete with ports, however, like its fellow manufacturers, the bet is on the cloud. USB Type-C ports are located in only one instance on the left and right sides. MicroSD for reading memory cards and a headphone jack with a microphone are located on the left. The keyboard is pleasant to the touch, but for many, its excessive softness may seem like a disadvantage.
  2. Performance laptop is more than acceptable for models of this kind. A 6-core ARM processor was used, which was designed specifically for Chromebooks. Two A72 cores and four Quad A53 cores with integrated graphics. Hard drive - 32 GB and 4 GB of RAM (on BD, 4 GB capacity). Multimedia with built-in digital microphone and stereo speakers. Two USB ports transfer data at speeds up to 5 GB per second. This specification is not enough for some modern games, and the Chromebook was not originally intended for games and entertainment that require high performance. But this unitary model will handle more than 15 open tabs with high-quality video running simultaneously without delay. The Chromebook, logically, has the Google Chrome operating system - the first of its kind, including Google Play, which runs smoothly even on maximum settings. And the main advantage of the Samsung Chromebook Plus is support for Android applications out of the box.
  3. Display The Chromebook has a 12.3-inch diagonal and a resolution of 2400 by 1600 pixels, in numbers. And if we evaluate visually, then in fact, for a Chromebook, this is an incredibly colorful screen with excellent accuracy. The Samsung Chromebook Plus display has a brightness of 376 nits, which is above average. The aspect ratio is 3:2 - non-standard for laptops, but very suitable for tablet mode. Moreover, the touch panel of this model is responsive. The display's color rendering power and good color rendering are observed at different operating levels. The bright fragments characteristic of them, roughly speaking, shine. And the impeccable contrast allows you to fully enjoy the picture on the screen.
  4. Battery with a capacity of 39 W/hour, to put it mildly, it is not impressive in its power, especially according to modern requirements. Nevertheless, the battery of this Chromebook can withstand about 5 relatively modest hours of operation at maximum load and more than 9 hours when surfing the Internet. I would like the battery life to be longer, but perhaps you shouldn’t be too demanding of this particular parameter. Still, the main trump card of the Chromebook lies elsewhere.
  5. Additionally I would also like to say something about the speakers, which perfectly reproduce high frequencies, but are lost in the lows. And the volume is not very enough - too quiet. For example, if you place a Samsung Chromebook Plus on the teacher's desk in a large class, then the students in the back desks may already experience a lack of sound. The webcam captures the picture perfectly. The 720p resolution allows you to enjoy clear and detailed images. Under maximum long-term loads, this Chromebook remains at an acceptable temperature, without crossing the permissible threshold of 35 degrees Celsius.
In general, the Samsung Chromebook Plus leaves a very pleasant impression of getting to know it. If you also look at the fact that it supports a stylus, is well assembled and has a respectable appearance, then it can easily be included in the cohort of the best representatives of its industry. This is the case when the price best matches the quality.

The price of Samsung Chromebook Plus in Russia is 32,000 rubles.

HP Specter x360 15 Laptop

The next model confidently feels in the TOP of the best laptops with a good screen and, I must say, it has reasons for this. After all, just looking at the design of the HP Specter x360 15, you already want to pick it up and get to work. But let's talk about everything in order.
  1. Design This laptop can be compared to a beautiful girl whom you want to admire forever. Yes, it may seem a little massive to some, but this is nothing compared to the careful attitude of the designers to every detail of the laptop when creating it. Starting from the speaker grille located on both sides of the keyboard and ending with the hinges, which are subtly outlined along the edges with golden elegant lines. If we're talking about hinges, then it's worth saying right away that the HP Specter x360 15 is the notorious 2-in-1 hybrid. It can transform from a laptop into a tablet or a tablet stand, maybe in the form of a tent. But no matter what mode you use it in, HP made sure that the device they created looked great in all its guises. The 100% aluminum finish is finished in a matte black tone. The case is very pleasant to the touch and looks really expensive. Well, in addition to the two speakers we mentioned, there is also a third one on the back. A slot for an SD card and microphone and headphone jacks are located on the left side of the laptop. And the ventilation hole is adjacent to the power button. Along the right and left edges, the model is favorably emphasized by a gold-colored outline.
  2. Performance HP Specter x360 15 is integrated primarily for people in creative and technical professions who need to work with complex graphics programs. The laptop has a dual-core Intel Core i7-7500U processor with a frequency of 2.7 GHz. It can accelerate to a maximum of 3.5 GHz. This is nothing more than a mobile processor specially designed for ultra-thin laptops. Despite the fact that the laptop is equipped with Nvidia GeForce 940 MX discrete graphics and an Intel HD Graphics 620 video card, this is by no means a gaming machine. It has 16 GB DDR4 RAM and 512 GB internal memory. When tested in Sky Diver, the HP Specter x360 15 showed a result of 6648 points, almost twice the performance of its predecessor HP Specter x360 13 last year. What else is interesting is that it is almost completely silent, even when performing the most complex tasks. This aspect is very important when working in crowded places where silence must be maintained.
  3. Display This model, which is logical, judging by the name, has 15.6 inches diagonally. And Ultra HD screen resolution objectively deserves applause. Sometimes it seems that the image that the display conveys to the eyes is ideal - bright, saturated colors, excellent contrast and regulation of shade levels. This super-quality picture can be explained by the Nvidia discrete graphics chip, which projects several times more pixels onto the screen, compared even to Full HD laptops. In addition, the HP Specter x360 15 laptop uses Windows Ink, which, in turn, allows you to use a stylus - a great addition. No shortcomings were noticed in the display and the super-sharp screen can only be given a pass.
  4. Battery somewhat disappointing, because from a laptop with a battery capacity of 79.2 W/h you expect longer work on a single charge. Of course, the world is not a wedge on this minus, but we wrote down the fact that battery life is a drawback of the HP Specter x360 15. I would like to say a few more words about the charger - it is bulky and inconvenient. And if you consider that the laptop is quite large, then carrying a charger with you is also a little stressful. Although, making a discount on HP Fast Charge, which allows you to charge a laptop up to 50% in half an hour, then, on the other hand, carrying extra weight in a backpack is not such a burden.
  5. Additionally It’s also worth mentioning the ports that we didn’t mention: two USB 3.1 Type-C, one USB 3.1 and HDMI. If we talk about the reproduced sound, it is excellent, as for a laptop, and the speakers are taken not only in quantity, but also in quality. The same can be said about the HP Wide Vision camera. The flawlessness of the keyboard and its convenience are also beyond doubt, but with regard to the trackpad, which somewhat interferes with typing, manufacturers should think twice about it.
The overall impression of the HP Specter x360 15 is more than positive. This laptop is mostly flawless, from its chic design to its excellent performance. Yes, there may be some shortcomings that were mentioned above, but its wide functionality covers them. The HP Specter x360 15 is what you need for people working with graphics and in the media space.

The price of HP Specter x360 15 in Russia is 100,000 rubles.

HP EliteBook x360 laptop

Time demands the development of technology, and this laptop is one of those that keeps up with the times. High performance and incredibly trendy design beckon. And we won’t keep ourselves waiting and will quickly figure out what’s what in the HP EliteBook x360 laptop.
  1. Design This model, it feels like, has absorbed all the best ideas of the designers. He is so relaxed and at the same time bright that he invites only the most sincere compliments. The HP EliteBook x360 case is entirely aluminum, the manufacturers processed it on a special machine and, as HP says, it can withstand more than ten mechanical impacts on it. We are talking about MIL-STD 810G standards. As for the color scheme, the main shades are gray, giving the model rigor and at the same time sophistication. Particular attention should be paid to the keyboard, which is equipped with a ClickPad (glass cover) and additional keys. It is not difficult for the user of the HP EliteBook x360 to answer a call or turn on a presentation by pressing one key. And since the lid of this multibook rotates 360 degrees, it is naturally possible to use it in five modes, starting with the standard appearance of a laptop and ending with a tablet with a stand. The main thing is that, taking any form, the HP EliteBook x360 does not lose its strict appearance of an expensive laptop.
  2. Performance This model corresponds to the title of a fast and powerful laptop. It runs on the Windows 10 operating system. It has a 7th generation Intel Core processor with a frequency of 2.9 GHz (capable of reaching up to 3.9 GHz) with built-in Intel Turbo Boost technology. The model also boasts DDR4 RAM. In addition, you can optionally purchase a PCIe Gen. An Intel HD Graphics GT2 video card is also built-in. All these characteristics allow you to run modern games and graphics programs on this laptop. And the simultaneous start of presentations, videos, and surfing the Internet will not critically affect the speed of the HP EliteBook x360. This model certainly does not want to slow down.
  3. Display It’s simply amazing with the quality of the picture that you just want to say: “What has technology come to?” The FHD UWVA touch screen has a diagonal of 13.3 inches. It is ultra-thin and cutting-edge with a resolution of 3840x2160. Excellent reproduction of colors, sometimes they seem even brighter than in life, but you need to understand that high image quality depends not only on the display (the HP EliteBook x360 will definitely cope with its function), but also on the content of the video material. Therefore, in order to enjoy all the delights of the screen of this model, it is worth choosing a multimedia product accordingly.
  4. Battery comparable to the status of one of the best laptops of 2017. The lithium-ion battery (57 Wh) has a more than acceptable operating time, so you don’t have to carry the charger with you. In battery mode it lasts for more than 16 hours. But still, a useful fast charging function is built in, allowing you to fill the battery with 50% energy in just half an hour if necessary.
  5. Additionally HP Sure Start Gen3 technology is installed, which monitors the BIOS status in memory and is capable of independently restoring the platform configuration. There is handwriting support thanks to the HP Active Pen digital stylus. And also the HP Noise Cancellation system, which guarantees high sound quality.
What can I say, there’s no other way to call the HP EliteBook x360 a high-end product. This model, thanks to its ultra-luxurious characteristics and useful bells and whistles, is deservedly among the best laptops of 2017.

Price HP EliteBook x360 in Russia - 96,000 rubles

As you can see, 2017 pleased us with the splendor of choice. The TOP 3 best laptops with a good screen presented above are proof of this. All three models in their characteristics correspond to modern fashion trends and are suitable for a wide variety of tasks, from communication on social networks to complex work with a specialized graphic product.

For the manufacture of laptop screens, various types of matrices are currently used, each of which has certain advantages. Laptops with IPS panels are of great interest today.

Laptops with IPS screen: main features

The salient features of laptops with IPS display are:

  • high contrast;
  • high brightness;
  • good color rendering;
  • Wide viewing angles reaching 178 degrees.

This means that such devices are suitable for solving many problems. They can be used for working with texts and tables, editing graphics and videos (provided the resolution is relatively high), viewing photos and films, as well as for playing games.

The size of the screen made using this technology varies over a wide range. Therefore, laptops with an IPS screen can be either compact models or large devices that are well suited for multimedia entertainment. Thanks to the wide viewing angles, you can watch movies or photos on such a display not only alone, but also together and even in a group.

It is enough to note what is especially important to you, and the system will compile a list of devices that correspond to your wishes and financial capabilities.

Good afternoon Tell me, what sources did you rely on when creating the table?
I have an HP Elitebook G5 laptop with a BOE074A matrix, judging by AIDA64. In your table, this matrix is indicated for a different HP model. But that’s okay, the manufacturer can obviously change the matrices according to the model range without notice.
But can you tell me where I can look at the more detailed characteristics of the BOA matrices and this particular model BOE074A?
    Thank you in advance!

  1. This is a very relevant topic. Thank you for this great work!
For me, the choice was complicated by random information from the fact that most (almost all) laptops have 6-bit matrices, and this is not 16 million colors, but a little over two hundred thousand. 8-bit matrices are exactly what you need, if they have good contrast, color gamut, etc.

  2. Hello Andrei!

I want to express my gratitude to you for your work. At some point, when I came to your site with Irina, I discovered something new and interesting for myself, and most importantly, I found a direction for solving my questions, but there are still those that I would like to ask here. At the moment I am faced with choosing a laptop for working in office programs and reading articles, which takes a long time, but the question and problem is that with all the huge variety, it is not possible to find information about the presence of PWM in the display matrix. Yes, of course, there are sites that review laptops, their matrices and the presence of PWM, but you understand that the manufacturer can change the components, including laptop matrices, without notice. Is it possible to find out about the presence/absence of PWM in a laptop that is directly in front of you, in your hands (a pencil test cannot always show the presence of PWM) with 100% probability, if so, how can this be done?
Thank you very much in advance.

  3. Hello, I enjoy reading you!
Guys, this is a question, could you help me select a matrix, I want to replace it in my laptop, but I have doubts about the selection of characteristics. I have already selected it according to the characteristics, maybe it will be easier to figure it out.
In general, the stock one costs N140HCA-EAC (262k colors), also according to the part numbers this model is equipped with M140NWF5 R3 (16.7 million), but according to reviews they write that it is bad due to the srgb coverage, I picked up a few, but will they fit? I’m confused by what’s in mine eDP1.2, and in the eDP1.3 and eDP1.4 I chose, I don’t know how critical it is, and the second is how big the difference is between 8bit and 6bit+frs, with the second one there is more choice
I selected it on panelook based on similar characteristics, but I have doubts... help, please
    http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.php?ids=30226,30958,36282,37374,31428

  4. Andrey, tell me, in your opinion, which option would be better?
I selected what fits and is available in stores.
    N140HCE-GP2, B140HAN03.6 gloss
    N140HCE-EN2, B140HAN03.7 matte

  5. I used your sign when choosing a laptop for photo editing
I got it really well... I chose the Acer Predator helios 300 ph315-51-7802
Your article shows two such laptops with AUO matrices having a SRGB color gamut of 96%+
I got a model with a color gamut of 69% (Chi mei cmn15d3 matrix)
And this is just a colossal difference, it’s not for me to explain to you..
I’m categorically upset, I don’t know what to do now
Add to the table the information that the Acer Predator Helios 300 ph315-51 may have a Chi mei cmn15d3 Matrix with a color gamut of 69% sgb and 52% adobe

  6. And yes, it was not on display, so there was no option to look at it by eye either.
I read on the Internet in reviews and reviews that the beech laptop has a 144Hz matrix and crawled to the store to buy
This is the price to pay for inattention, quickness and, probably, stupidity

  7. Tell me, maybe someone has tested or seen such a matrix N140HCE-GP2 live
It seems like it’s a complete analogue of the noble N140HCE-EN2, only glossy, but I can’t see any results anywhere...

    Good afternoon.
If you just buy a laptop and install the matrix there separately, what should you pay attention to when buying both? Who did this? Is there a chance that the purchased matrix will not work correctly?

  8. Hello, please tell me, I’m going to buy a laptop to work mainly in video and photo editing, now I’ve settled on ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT-BQ030 or ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT-BQ113T, they are slightly different, can I refer to your table in this case ? You have 3 ASUS TUF FX505 models listed, as I understand, one of them has a “weaker” screen. Can you say something about the laptops that I mentioned, is it advisable to take one of them for work, how different their screens may be, maybe you even tested these specific models? Another slightly off-topic question, do gaming laptops, and in particular the ASUS TUF FX505, begin to “buzz and make noise” only when playing heavy games? Can you work calmly in editors? Or do they start to start even at minimal loads? I'm just not good at these things. Thanks in advance!

  9. Hello. How can it be that the Dell XPS 15, which is positioned as a laptop with a very high-quality screen, is a MacBook killer, etc. has a worse color gamut than any gaming nitro, rogue and other, obviously not designer laptops?

  10. Hello. I recently purchased a Dell G3 17 3779 (AUO B173HAN01.3). One of the requirements was the ability to work with images and video at least at an amateur level. As a result, I got this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyYTZGGuCHU Wild, uneven highlights on a black background. And here the question arises: what’s the point of 90% sRGB if black, in principle, does not exist on this laptop. It is clear that nothing can be done with images on such a screen, and I returned it. Then I read the 4pda thread and specifically asked the owners to take a picture of the screen - absolutely everyone has highlights, some are stronger, others are barely noticeable, and this does not depend on the matrix - both on AUO and on LG the essence of the highlights is the same. This is a question of build quality - where the panel is pinched or the screen cover is bent, that’s where the glare appears. Therefore, I suggest adding a couple more columns to the table. I don’t know what to call it, but the essence of the first one is to identify precisely the presence of highlights. It can adjust the brightness of highlights in nine areas of the screen, as they do on some sites. Well, or at least a subjective assessment of the level of light “by eye”. Because, IMHO, no matter what color gamut the matrix has, if there is no more or less uniform black, then it is useless for working with graphics. Another column that suggests itself is the year of manufacture of the laptop, because for those who choose a laptop from the table, dozens of models that are no longer produced are of no interest, but are a big waste of time. Perhaps it makes sense to somehow highlight in the table the models that are relevant today, for example, those not older than two years. Or move legacy laptops to a second archive table. As for the rest, the work is necessary. Thank you!

  11. I'm afraid this table has no practical meaning. For example, ASUS TUF FX505** comes with different matrices, and only in FX505GM, according to the ASUS website (https://ru.store.asus.com/notebooks/tuf-gaming/?bfilter=f21:439;f14:68 ;f15:129;f17:91 ;), there are matrices with high brightness of 300 nits and 72% NTSC color. So I wouldn’t risk relying on the information from this table when buying a laptop.

  12. I tried to find laptops without PWM from the table on sale. There were a few, and the most expensive ones. As far as I understand, there are no other models in the Russian Federation? Every time there are models in which at least one symbol is different. For example, HP Pavilion 15-dk0000 - when searching for this laptop, the model HP Pavilion 15-*c*k0000 is found. Moreover, these models are not even on import sites. Tell me where I can buy laptops from the table?) Do they even exist?)

  13. Good afternoon, what about the dell vostro 7590 laptop model. The manufacturer’s website states that this model has a good color gamut of 72% NTSC. The laptop recently went on sale

The convenience of a laptop depends on many parameters of the device. If you are looking for a model that is perfect for watching movies, working in graphic editors and other similar tasks, then it is best to choose a reliable laptop with a high-quality IPS screen. A device of this class allows you to enjoy a rich and rich picture, the quality and brightness of which is maintained at any viewing angle, which is very important for processing photos and creating video masterpieces.

We have compiled a rating of the best laptops with an IPS matrix of 2018 - 2019, which are suitable not only for ordinary users, but also for professionals. Each model stands out with something special, some can only offer a high-quality screen, and some manufacturers also offer excellent hardware.

MSI GS60 6QE Ghost Pro

The GS60 6QE Ghost Pro from MSI is a high-quality 15.6-inch laptop that can handle not only resource-intensive applications, but also advanced games. The graphics component in the device is powered by a 3 GB GTX 970M chip from NVIDIA, and the processor can be Intel Core i5 and Core i7 of the Skylake family. The amount of RAM is 8 or 16 gigabytes (depending on the selected modification), but if necessary, it can be expanded up to 32 GB. Separately, it is worth noting the excellent IPS matrix. In this regard, the MSI GS60 is simply an excellent laptop for its price. In addition, if necessary, you can choose a configuration not with Full HD, but with a 4K display, which will especially appeal to photographers, web designers or gamers.

Advantages:

  • Excellent hardware
  • A combination of HDD and SSD
  • Excellent screen quality
  • 4K display resolution (optional)
  • Customizable RGB backlighting of the keyboard unit
  • Rigid metal body
  • Optimal weight and size characteristics

Flaws:

  • Noisy cooling system
  • Only two USB
  • Replacing RAM/drives requires lengthy disassembly

Acer SWIFT 3

Some of the best laptops with an IPS display are offered by the SWIFT line from Acer; the laptop weighs only 1.5 kg, despite the fact that the body is made of aluminum. The manufacturer’s new model is perfect for users for whom device mobility is primarily important. The Acer SWIFT 3 ultrabook is a relatively inexpensive laptop with a 128 GB SSD drive. The latter works very quickly, but its capacity may not be enough for everyone. But the modern seventh generation Intel Core i3 processor, equipped with integrated Intel HD Graphics 520, and 8 GB of RAM will allow the user to run any “heavy” applications and even undemanding games.

Advantages:

  • High-quality matrix with Full HD resolution
  • Reverse screen
  • Great processor
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Long battery life

Flaws:

  • Display brightness may not be enough
  • Small built-in storage capacity

DELL INSPIRON 5378

In terms of price and quality, the DELL INSPIRON 5378 laptop has practically no competitors. A stylish and compact transformer with a 13.3-inch screen weighs about 1.7 kilograms, which makes it extremely mobile. The display here is touch-sensitive, so the device can be used as a tablet computer. Full HD resolution on such a small diagonal provides high pixel density and high-quality images. At the same time, the manufacturer managed to fit the Intel Core i5-7200U chipset, operating at a base frequency of 2.5 GHz, in a minimally sized case. The amount of RAM in this model is 8 GB, and the built-in storage can vary from 256 gigabytes SSD to 1 terabyte HDD. On the forums, the INSPIRON 5378 laptop can only be criticized for its slow hard drive, and if you need maximum speed, then pay attention to the modification with a solid-state SSD drive.

Advantages:

  • Good “filling”
  • Excellent screen quality
  • Ability to use the device as a tablet
  • Compactness
  • Capacious battery

Flaws:

  • Slow hard drive (on eligible models)
  • A bit heavy to use in tablet mode

ASUS ZenBook UX305CA

It is simply impossible not to include the bright and stylish ASUS ZenBook UX305CA in the TOP of laptops. Among any device options with excellent mobility, this model will certainly come out on top. We have before us an incredibly thin and very comfortable laptop with an IPS screen, weighing only 1.2 kilograms. Thanks to the economical Intel Core m5 6Y54 platform with a pair of 1.1 GHz cores, the device can easily work for 10 hours from the built-in battery. Separately, it is worth noting 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, represented by a high-speed SSD. But the most important thing about this laptop is the screen. The bright 13.3-inch panel with a resolution of 3200x1800 provides a real pleasure to work in any lighting and viewing angle.

Advantages:

  • One of the best IPS matrices on the market
  • Economical hardware
  • Set of ports
  • Complete silence in operation (silent SSD and passive cooling)
  • Attractive design
  • Lightweight and compact

Flaws:

  • Lack of active cooling often leads to noticeable heating
  • Stripped down keyboard
  • Marky building

Apple MacBook Pro 13

Apple has always been able to create high-quality devices that can remain relevant for many years. The MacBook Pro 13 is no exception. This popular laptop is perfect for a photographer for photo processing or working with graphics, because the Retina display installed in this model has some of the best brightness, contrast and color rendition. At the same time, for a 13.3-inch screen, the manufacturer used a resolution of 2560x1600, which guarantees high image clarity. A capacious battery is also one of the key advantages of the device. With a moderate load, you can count on 10 hours of work when disconnected from the outlet. Also in video reviews of this new laptop, many note the incredible convenience of the Touch Bar both in office and multimedia tasks.

Advantages:

  • Excellent design
  • Excellent build quality
  • Capacious battery
  • The best matrix on the market
  • Balanced hardware
  • Lightweight and compact

Flaws:

  • Set of ports
  • High price

ASUS VivoBook Pro N752VX

The multimedia ASUS VivoBook Pro N752VX is an excellent laptop with a 17-inch screen, excellent hardware and a high-quality metal case. The device is offered in several modifications to choose from. For the average buyer, a model with an Intel Core i5-6300HQ chip, 8 gigabytes of RAM, and a GeForce 950M graphics subsystem will be enough. Built-in storage consists of a fast terabyte HDD and a 128 GB solid-state SSD, ideal for the system, applications and various games. With the latter, by the way, everything here is at an average level. According to reviews, the ASUS VivoBook Pro N752VX laptop can run most projects from recent years, but many of them will only produce comfortable FPS at low settings. You will also be pleased with two excellent speakers with excellent rich sound.

Advantages:

  • Large IPS panel with Full HD resolution
  • A good “stuffing” for video editing and other “heavy” tasks
  • Fast HDD and SSD
  • Availability of four USB (including Type-C)
  • Good sound
  • Convenient input devices

Flaws:

  • Short battery life

Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Ultrabook

If you still haven't decided which laptop with IPS technology to choose and buy, then be sure to pay attention to the ThinkPad T460s from Lenovo. This is an ideal device for those people who value not only performance, but also great looks. Lenovo designers did an excellent job of every smallest detail of the case, and the engineers managed to fit powerful hardware into a case less than two centimeters thick and weighing 1.4 kilograms. Thanks to the economical Intel Core i7-6600U processor and built-in Intel HD 520 video chip, the user can count on 6-10 hours of battery life (depending on the usage model). I would also like to praise the Chinese manufacturer for installing 12 GB of RAM and a 512 GB solid-state drive into the laptop.

Advantages:

  • Beautiful matte display
  • Attractive design
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Good autonomy
  • Decent input devices
  • Keyboard backlight
  • Fingerprint's scanner
  • Convenient trackpoint
  • Capacity SSD

Flaws:

  • The built-in battery is not hot-swappable
  • The Fn key is in place of Ctrl, which is sometimes inconvenient
  • Keyboard backlight missing

Conclusion

With the development of technology, many high-quality components are becoming cheaper and more accessible to a wide range of buyers. At the same time, the quality of components is increasing, which allows them to be used in a wider variety of products. So, in the rating of the best laptops with an IPS matrix for 2017, we included not only classic models, but also transformers and even gaming devices at a reasonable cost. Yes, of course, you won’t see much budget laptops using screens with IP yet, but over time they will appear on the market.

Modern laptops are not characterized by the same choice of screen technologies. And this is probably fair - some need a low price, some need better color reproduction, and an avid gamer needs no delays or “lags” in the picture in their favorite game.Very conditionally, several groups of modern matrices can be distinguished. Let's limit their number to four, this is quite enough to cover 95% of the matrices.

Excellent quality laptop screens

These are the best matrices to date, suitable for the most demanding users in multimedia applications and, in most cases, for professional work, including graphics and color. The main features will be: high contrast, usually high brightness, excellent clarity, best (available) color rendition, wide viewing angles, usually deep blacks. As a rule, these matrices are made using , CASV or improved TN+film technologies. Technologies:

IPS- average brightness, very large viewing angles (up to 180 degrees) in all directions, good black color, not overly bright colors with excellent color rendition. Excellent reproduction of shades of dark and light. The main features of IPS are huge viewing angles - visibility up to almost 90 degrees on one side, there is distortion, but quite insignificant. Which is convenient for working with color graphics, because... no distortion when changing head position. The overall brightness and brightness-color saturation are rather average, some think it’s not enough. Many claim that color rendition is very good. A distinctive feature is that when viewed from an angle from the side, a slight (some say strong) purple tint can be noticeable on black. The second sign is that they mention viewing angles of 170-180 degrees, including downwards. IPS are more suitable for games that require fast matrices with low response times. However, you need to look for the fastest ones among TN+film. Which practically excludes 1st class. To this category include the best TruBrite matrices from Toshiba (for example, the Qosmio family), the best models of X-Brite (X-Black) matrices from Sony, IBM (IPS with a matte finish from IBM, under the FlexView or FV brand). However, some matrices have a purple tint (Sony FS series), but it is visible even with a direct look, and the quality is a little worse, hardly IPS, apparently – good TN+Film. These Sony FS series have a smaller viewing angle from below. LG p Some models are stated to have IPS matrices. The Russian representative office provided information that the models are equipped with a 15" IPS SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) matrix LM70-3222, LM70-32HR/8, LM70-34HD, LM70-36JE1/2/3, LM70-3424AL, LM70-9KMB/P, LM70-CKJB, LM70-CKMH/1, LM70-P333, LM70-P555, LM70-P6HR/L/LR8, LM70-P6MK, LM70-QKMH/1, S1-P855R . IPS matrices from Fujitsu-Siemens - for example, Celsius H230. ASUS IPS matrices are glossy, under the ACE View brand. ASUS IPS matrices are glossy, under the Color Shine brand, only 15” SXGA+ 1400*1050 and only on new models. Identified by the letter F in third place in the full designation of the laptop model. For example. in Asus V6F00Va and V6F00J models. In fact, the quality needs to be checked. There are comparisons that are somewhere on the level of IPS on IBM or ASUS L5F and better than excellent TN+Film from Sony. Viewing angles in all directions are close to 90 degrees, even downwards.

  • CASV- large viewing angles, excellent brightness, contrast, color saturation, deep blacks. CASV matrices - some old Toshiba models (5205-s705, 5205-s119), Sony many old series on Pentium-4 - 16" 1600*1200 and some 16" 1400*1050 matrices, Sony TR-series (from PCG -TR1 according to PCG-TR5) - 10.6" 1280*800. TruBrite matrices 15", 15.4", 17" for Toshiba models of the Qosmio family. According to the data we have encountered, the contrast level is 500:1 and higher (it differs in different models). Matrices X -Brite from Sony, used in 17" A-series models (VGN-a170 and later, at the time of writing - up to VGN-A790), in 17" AX-series (AX570, AX580), in 13.3" S-series models , 10.6" in T-series models (VGN-T140, -T2XRP and older), 11.1" (1366x768) in TX-series models (VGN-TX1, VGN-TX650, etc.).
  • TN+Film(top class) - high or very high brightness, bright saturated colors, sometimes even excessively, good or excellent color rendition, good contrast, usually - but not always - deep blacks (sometimes corrected by reducing brightness) large horizontal viewing angles, rather medium - vertically, good or excellent reproduction of shades of dark and light.
  • MVA, PVA less common, good color rendition. Found on some expensive models from Fujitsu-Siemens, for example Celsius. It was mentioned that it can be identified by its yellowish tint when viewed from a side angle.

Good screens

In general, they are inferior to the above-described models in vertical viewing angles (horizontal - usually large, vertical - especially down - smaller). Image details are also worse distinguished at the edges of the brightness range - dark on black, light on white. But unless you look closely, many people don’t notice it.Color rendering is somewhat worse - the colors are usually bright and beautiful. For games, viewing photos and videos - excellent! But professionals believe that they are not quite correct, for example, too bright. For professional work with color, more accurate color rendering is desirable.Suitable for any text work, demanding users of multimedia applications, including for viewing by a group. With restrictions, applicable for working with graphics (color) on a limited budget.

  • Technology used: advanced TN+Film. These include Toshiba "TruBrite+HCSV" matrices, P35-S611, P35-S6112, A75, M30x, M35x, M40x, M45x, M45-s2653 series. Sony displays of good quality are primarily part of Sony X-Brite matrices (glossy with “deep” black color) and matrices of the PCG-K23, PCG-K25, PCG-K33, FS115, FS215, FS315, FS550, FS660, FS742 series, VGN-FE11SR, VGN-FE550, VGN-sz1XPR, VGN-SZ110, etc. All are very bright, contrasty, with good viewing angles. Although the black color is not too dark, the images look great. Non-professionals usually do not notice shortcomings. It should be noted that Sony SZ with LED backlighting has noticeable vertical striping - multi-colored, alternating stripes of pinkish and greenish shades. However, most people do not notice them. But it catches the eye of professional artists and interferes with their work with images. ASUS laptops with good displays are represented by the j-series (for example W1J/W1J00GA). Hewlett Packard Pavilion 17” zd8xxx series, for example. zd8000, zd8110; Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M 3438G, 17”, Amilo Xi 1546, 17”,

Average quality laptop screens

There is a very wide range of individual parameters here. The brightness and clarity are good, the contrast is usually lower, black and all colors in general are less saturated, slightly “diluted” with white.Color rendering may be poor - not for professional use. For ordinary users, the colors are usually good (sufficient).Viewing angles are average (horizontally sometimes excellent), a common feature is small vertical viewing angles, especially downwards. Also, image details are usually even worse distinguished by brightness - dark on black, light on white. Many high-resolution matrices - 1400*1050 and higher - are not lower than class 3, unless they reach higher ones.Area of application - working with text, surfing and for quite comfortable work with multimedia applications - viewing videos and photos, . Great for line graphics - type drawings.

Mediocre laptop screens

The most widespread, inexpensive matrices are included in 50% of manufactured laptops (including expensive ones) and are found in 99% of inexpensive laptops (up to $1000). The main comments are low brightness, no pure black (visibly gray), therefore less contrast. The colors are less bright, unsaturated, “whitish”, color distortions are noticeable - as a rule, a shift to blue colors. Some have bright, saturated colors, but unnatural, “chemical”.Viewing angles are medium to small. Sometimes the vertical angles are so small that the top and bottom of the screen cannot be seen with equal brightness.Usually the details of the image are even worse distinguished by brightness - dark on black, light on white.Usually these are low-resolution matrices – 1024*768, but there are also 14-15” 1280*800, 14-15” 1400*1050.The clarity may be low - it is noticeable, for example, that the letters slightly “scatter” into dots. Moreover, different models may have noticeable differences in the brightness (saturation) of colors, clarity, among other things - sometimes certain parameters are quite decent. In general, these are matrices of an average, low level, even if the matrix is good in some respect.Scope of application - office work with 1C, with text, surfing.Viewing photos, videos, games is possible if you do not make high demands on image quality and mostly alone, because... due to small viewing angles, the second or third viewer sees a highly distorted image.

Class 5 are the cheapest matrices, poorly suited even for text work. They are rare. For example, with horizontal viewing angles of 5 degrees. These are matrices with terrible color rendering (pure blue instead of gray). However, they can also be used in limited cases. For example, for short-term work with the screen - (rare) server administration, taking readings from some equipment, etc. These are not recommended for permanent work - health is more expensive. If your budget is strictly limited, it is better to take a used one. laptop with a decent quality matrix.

Practical review

As for the practical part, alas, everything is very sad. Marketers of laptop companies tend to not give the user all the information, which makes comparison, and ultimately choice, difficult.Almost all companies have proprietary names for matrix technologies, which are designed to hide the true type of matrix. Moreover, hOften under one name there are several different types of matrices of very different quality. In addition, one laptop model can have different matrices of noticeably different quality (for example, Dell, ACER have been noticed in this case).Or under the same matrix type designation (ASUS) different models have different matrices. In general, it should be noted thatand in recent years there has been some averaging of quality. There are practically no new models with the best IPS matrices or the worst TN-film. BMost of the matrices produced are of an average or simply good level. It should also be noted thatPeople often look for the “best matrix” so as not to damage their eyes. And the best monitor, from a technological point of view, may not be the best choice for people with vision problems - sometimes the matrices are too bright and contrasty. In such cases, it is recommended to expand the search among less bright laptops with a mediocre matrix, with a mandatory thorough check by the user himself.
