The Internet does not connect, identification is in progress. I can't connect to my WiFi. Typical problems and their solutions

Welcome to the blog. Anyone who subscribed to the site's news probably noticed that a few weeks ago I wrote about what to do if there is no Internet on the computer and the icon appears. For many, this article has even helped them cope with most problems at least somehow related to Internet access.

But, here we will analyze this topic more thoroughly and consider all sorts of inconveniences due to which the Internet connected via cable does not work. We will learn how to correctly diagnose the problem and what can be done to fix it, and we will also figure out in which cases the problem is with the computer hardware, and in which with the software part of the system.

Therefore, if you have connected the cable to the computer, but there is no Internet, then let’s not drag our feet and start looking for the cause of this malfunction.

The Internet does not work connected via cable or without Internet access

Every user who has ever worked on a computer knows that if a yellow triangle appears on the network icon, it means there are some problems with the connection or it is completely absent. It so happens that users most often encounter this problem when surfing the Internet. So let's start with it.

1. Of course, first of all, I will advise you the simplest solution to the problem - this is a regular reboot of the computer. This advice may seem strange and stupid to some, but this solution helps to cope with most problems related to the Internet and more.

2. Next, we try to pull the cable out of the network card, wait a few seconds and insert it back. The acquisition of a network address should begin, after which the computer will receive an IP and the Internet connection should be restored. If nothing works out, don't despair and just move on to the next point.

3. Now, having gone into network connections, we try to disable “ Ethernet" and turn it back on. Sometimes this is enough to get rid of the “” icon.

4. If your Internet does not work, connected via a cable, which is connected to the Wi-Fi router on the other side, then in this case we perform the following steps. First, we remove the power (220V) from the router and after a couple of minutes we insert it back, so we will reboot the Wi-Fi access point. After this, be sure to restart your computer, everything should work.

I started to encounter a similar problem on my home network, I haven’t figured out the reason yet, but as a temporary solution I’m using the option that you just read about.

When I find the reason, I will definitely share it with you in this article as an addition.

5. The next thing to check is the settings for obtaining an IP address. Most providers today works with automatic receipt IP, respectively, the same settings should be set in your connection.

Let's go to " Network Sharing Center", click on network adapters and find the network connection there.

Having opened properties, connections, as shown below, double-click and go to the item “ Internet protocol IPv4».

There, for normal operation, we need to set points on the parameter " Automatically obtaining an IP address" We do the same with DNS servers.

Don’t forget to save all changes by clicking on “ OK».

If before this the Internet did not work for you, which was connected via cable, then after setting the necessary parameters everything should be fine.

But, on the other hand, there are quite a few providers who use dedicated IP addresses and static network settings. Usually, if this is practiced, the connected Internet wizard notifies the user about this and therefore, in theory, they are aware of all these matters.

So, if you are using this type of setup, then you should again go to Internet protocol IPv4 and instead of the machine, indicate the required addresses. IP, mask, gateway and other values can be obtained from the technical operator. your provider's support.

6. And finally, there may be problems on the part of the provider, so be sure to call them and make sure whether their equipment works in the house or not, and also whether everything is in order with access to the Internet.

This seems to be all you should check. If more than one point does not help you, then write to me with a detailed description and we will try to find a solution to the problem together. Also, if I forgot something, I’ll be sure to write it here later, here’s another thing, if you share with us in the comments some other interesting solution to the problem of a non-working Internet connected via cable, then I’ll also insert it into this article, as one more point.

Internet does not work, network cable is not connected

Now let's figure out what to do if a red cross appears on the icon in the form of a screen responsible for the network with a message that the network cable is not connected.

1. Of course, based on the words of the message, the first thing we do is check whether the cable is tightly inserted into the computer or whether it is inserted at all or not.

If you are using a router, then check the connection on both sides. If all " OK“, but the cross still hasn’t disappeared, then we move on.

2. The notification: “the network cable is not connected” may also appear because the network card is simply disabled. To enable it, follow these steps:

After this, the computer should start " Identification» network, and get an IP address.

3. After turning on the network card, I also recommend checking the status of “ Network connection" Since in a disabled state the Internet will not work, but only display all the same warning that the network cable is not connected.

4. So, if everything is turned on and connected, but the Internet still does not work, try to find another network cable and try connecting to the Internet using it. If the screen doesn't care, it will light up network cable is not connected, then most likely the problem is either in the network adapter of your PC, or the provider’s equipment installed in your home is not working.

5. Having tried all the tips given above, nothing helped you and the Internet connected via cable still does not work, then again I recommend calling the operator of the provider and consulting with him about the condition of their equipment. If the operator notifies you that there are no problems at the address, then you can certainly conclude that the Internet is not working precisely because of the network card.

6. Of course, I understand that not everyone can check the connection using another board, but if there is a chance that you can do this, be sure to check it, perhaps all the problems are due to it.

7. And finally, you also have the opportunity to call a technician from the provider, who will come and tell you what the problem is and help you set up your computer if it was related to the network ( !!! Master network cards do not change!!! ), or if damaged cable will do for you new one and connect it where you need it...

Based on these recommendations, you can diagnose your computer and figure out why the Internet connected via cable is not working and easily restore it. I sincerely hope that all my advice will still be useful and will help you solve all your Internet-related problems.

In this article we will deal with probably the most popular problem that occurs on computers with Windows 7 when connecting to the Internet via Wi-Fi. This "No Internet access" when, after connecting to a Wi-Fi network, the Internet does not work, and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark appears near the connection icon in the notification panel. And if you hover your cursor over this icon, the message “Without Internet access” will appear.

And in the network control center, there may still be an inscription “Unidentified network”. I myself have encountered this problem more than once, the solutions are very different. Now we will try to figure out what to do if your connection becomes without access to the Internet. On this page we will solve the problem using the example of Windows 7, since in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, there are a number of other reasons and solutions, therefore, there will be a separate article on them. Since this error can appear when connecting to the Internet via a network cable or Wi-Fi, in this article we will deal with connection via wireless Wi-Fi network. As for problems with accessing the Internet via cable, I will also write in a separate article so that the instructions are simpler and clearer, and you don’t get confused.

This means that if you have a laptop running Windows 7, you are connected to your Wi-Fi router, and you have a connection without access to the Internet, then you have come to the right place, now we will try to solve the problem that has arisen.

Windows 7: "No Internet access." What to do and how to find the reason?

I looked at articles on solving this problem on other sites, and almost everyone immediately writes about some actions that need to be performed on laptops. Check IP settings, etc. But, as practice shows, the reason that the Internet does not work in Windows 7 when connected via Wi-Fi is the router itself, its settings, or the Internet provider.

The main thing is to determine what the problem is, in the laptop, router, or Internet provider. Then you can do something to solve the problem.

Now I’ll explain everything and tell you, what to do first:

  • Many people have this The problem appears during the router setup process. If you are setting up your router, it seems like you have already set it up, you connected a laptop to it, and the connection status is “Without access to the Internet,” sites do not open, then you need to look for the problem in the router settings. Most likely, you have incorrectly configured the router to work with the provider, take a look. Find instructions on how to set up your routea on our website, or write in the comments, I’ll try to tell you where to look for these settings. Connect other devices to the Internet (if possible), check if they work.
  • If you have such a problem with Wi-Fi suddenly, the Internet was working and suddenly stopped, or after turning it off/on, then first of all, restart your computer (laptop) and router. Then, connect again. Perhaps this will solve the problem.
  • Check Is the cable from the provider to the router connected correctly? whether it is well inserted into the WAN connector. I had a case when the Internet did not work for relatives - “Without access to the Internet.” Everyone was without the Internet for a week. I looked, and it turned out that they connected the cable from the provider to the wrong connector on the router (connected to LAN, disconnected during a thunderstorm):). I just changed the connector and the Internet worked.
  • Make sure that Internet is paid for. Perhaps your provider simply turned off your Internet for non-payment.
  • Determine what the problem is: in a laptop, router, or Internet provider. It's not difficult to do. For example: try connecting another device to this router. If the Internet works on it, then the problem is in your computer. If the Internet does not work, then the problem is either in the router itself or in the Internet provider. To check who is to blame, the router or the provider, you need to try connecting the Internet directly to the computer into the network connector. Bypassing the router. If the Internet works, then the problem is most likely in the router. You can also call your provider and ask if they have problems in your area. I will write again that it is very important to determine what the problem is.
You can also connect your laptop to the router not via Wi-Fi, but via a network cable. Perhaps this is how the Internet will work.

Now that we have sorted out the most important points, we can move on to solving this error. I think you found the reason.

Solving the error “No Internet access” if the problem is in the laptop

If, for example, the Internet works on other devices, but not on your computer, then most likely the problem lies there. It would be nice to immediately try connecting it to other networks and see how it works. If the problem with the Internet via Wi-Fi on Windows 7 suddenly appeared, then try to remember, maybe you installed something, or changed some settings.

The most popular solution in Windows 7, which everyone advises, is to register static IP and DNS, or, conversely, try to set these parameters to be automatically received if you have static data. I already wrote about this in an article. Let's try.

Right click on the internet connection icon (which we should have with a yellow icon) and select Network and Sharing Center.

Right click on the adapter Wireless network connection and choose Properties. In the new window, highlight the line "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and press the button Properties. If you have automatic IP and DNS acquisition set there, then set static parameters, as I have in the screenshot below. Your IP and Default Gateway may be different. It depends on the IP address of your router (you can see it on the sticker on the router itself). Maybe IP 192.168.0.50 (50 - this number can be set to another, for example, 100). We set DNS: 8.8.8.8 And 8.8.4.4 .

If you just opened the parameters, and you already have some settings specified there, static addresses, then set automatic IP and DNS retrieval. You should also try with static addresses (set manually), and with automatic receipt.

Save the settings and restart your laptop. Perhaps changing these settings will solve the problem with Internet access.

Another solution: enable Federal Standard Compliance Mode (FIPS)

Click on the Internet connection icon in the notification bar, then right-click on your Wi-Fi network that you are connected to (and with which there are problems), and select Properties. In the new window, go to the masonry Safety, click on the button Extra options, and check the box next to Enable Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) compliance mode for this network.

Click Ok, and restart your laptop.

How else can I try to fix this error in Windows 7? You can also disable antivirus, firewall, and other programs that may block the connection. If all else fails, you can also update the driver for your laptop’s Wi-Fi adapter; there is some information about this.

How to fix if the problem is in the router or Internet provider?

Well, I think everything is clear with the provider. If the Internet does not work when connected directly, then the problem is with the provider. Something is wrong with the equipment, they are doing some work, etc. Or you just forgot to pay off the Internet. In such cases, we call support and clarify everything. Personally, I have had such cases more than once. I immediately started checking the settings, and it turned out that this was a problem with the provider.

If the router is to blame for everything (in this case, the Internet will not work on any device; sites simply will not open on mobile devices), then you need to check the settings and cables. As I wrote above, check if the Internet is connected correctly. It should be something like this:

Check everything thoroughly, reboot the router.

If this does not help, and especially if the problem arose while setting up the router, then you need to check the WAN settings. Simply put, Internet settings. Most often, the “No Internet access” error appears when the router cannot connect to the provider, which is why there is actually no Internet access. But it cannot connect to the provider, most likely because the connection parameters in the router settings are incorrectly set.

In the router settings, on the WAN or Internet tab (different manufacturers call it differently), you need to correctly indicate the type of connection that your Internet provider uses. And set all the parameters that may be needed.

I think you can find instructions for your router manufacturer.

That's all, I will update the article and add new solutions here. If you know something new about this problem, maybe you solved it somehow differently, then share interesting information in the comments, I think it will be useful to many.

I hope you were able to remove this error and the Internet is working on your laptop. You can ask your questions. Describe the problem, attach screenshots, I will try to answer quickly and help with advice.

If your desktop computer or laptop is connected to the Internet, then an unpleasant moment may come when you lose access to the network, and the network connections icon in the notification area will be crossed out with a red cross. When you hover your cursor over it, a message will appear explaining everything. "No connections available". This happens especially often when using a Wi-Fi adapter. Let's find out how to solve a similar problem if you are using a PC with Windows 7.

There are quite a few reasons that can cause the problem we are studying:

  • Real lack of available networks;
  • Damage to the Wi-Fi adapter, router or modem;
  • PC hardware failure (for example, network card failure);
  • Software glitch;
  • Lack of current drivers;
  • Damage to the operating system;
  • Virus.

We will not talk in detail about such a banal reason as the real lack of accessible networks. This can only be “cured” by returning to the Internet accessibility zone or changing the connection method to one that is valid in the given area. There is also no point in talking too much about hardware faults. They can be eliminated either by a hardware repairman or by replacing a failed part or equipment (Wi-Fi adapter, network card, router, modem, etc.). But we’ll talk in detail about the other reasons and ways to eliminate them.

Method 1: Standard diagnostics

First of all, if you experience the error discussed in this article, follow these simple steps:

  • Unplug the Wi-Fi adapter from the computer connector and then connect it again;
  • Reboot the router (it is better to do this by completely disconnecting it from the power supply, that is, you need to remove the plug from the socket);
  • Make sure you have your Wi-Fi hardware switch turned on if you are using a laptop. It is turned on in different laptop models in different ways: either using a special switch on the case, or using a certain key combination (for example, Fn+F2).

If none of the above helped, then it makes sense to carry out a standard diagnostic procedure.

Unfortunately, this method helps in a fairly limited number of cases. Therefore, if you are unable to resolve the problem when using it, then proceed to the following methods, which are described below.

Method 2: Enable Network Connection

It is likely that the cause of the error may be a disconnected connection in the network connections section "Control Panels". Then you need to activate the corresponding object.

  1. Click "Start" and open "Control Panel".
  2. Go to section "Network and Internet".
  3. Go to "Network Control Center...".
  4. In the left part of the window that appears, click on the inscription "Change adapter settings".
  5. The window that appears shows all the network connections configured on this computer. Find an item that is relevant to you and look at its status. If set to "Disabled", then you need to activate the connection. Right-click on the object ( RMB) and select "Turn on".
  6. After activating the connection, the problem described in this article will most likely be resolved.

Method 3: Removing the adapter from Device Manager

If you connect to the Internet via a Wi-Fi adapter, then one of the ways to solve the problem is to disable it in "Device Manager", and then reactivation.

  1. Go to "Control Panel" by the method that was considered in the description Method 2, and then open the section "System and safety".
  2. Click on the one posted in the group "System" element "Device Manager".
  3. Will start "Device Manager". In the list of equipment types that opens, click "Network adapters".
  4. In the drop-down list, find the name of the equipment that you use to connect to the Internet. Click on it RMB. Carefully examine the context menu that appears. If it contains a clause "Engage", click on it. This will be enough and you will not need to perform all further actions described in this method. The device was simply turned off, and now you have turned it on.

If the specified item is not present, then this means that the device is likely to malfunction. Therefore, it needs to be temporarily deactivated and then turned on. Click in the context menu "Delete".

  5. A dialog box will open warning you that the device will now be removed from the system. Confirm your actions by clicking "OK".
  6. The procedure for deleting the selected device will be performed.
  7. After that, in the horizontal menu, click "Action", and then from the list that opens, click "Update configuration...".
  8. A search will be made for devices connected using the technology "Plug and Play". The network adapter will be reconnected, and its drivers will be reinstalled.
  9. Next, restart your PC. Perhaps after this the connection availability error will disappear.

Method 4: Reinstalling drivers

One of the reasons for the error we are studying is that incorrect or outdated network adapter drivers are installed in the system. Most often it occurs when connecting the device for the first time or after reinstalling the OS. Then the drivers should be replaced with a current analogue. It is advisable to use exactly those copies that were supplied on a CD or other media along with the device itself. If you do not have such media, you can download the required object from the official website of the adapter manufacturer. Using similar software from other sources does not guarantee a solution to the problem.

  1. Go to "Device Manager", using the same algorithm of actions as in the previous method. Open the section again "Network adapters" and click RMB by the name of the desired device. In the list that appears, select "Update drivers...".
  2. Next, the shell for selecting the update method is activated. Select an option “Search for drivers...”.
  3. In the window that opens, you must specify the media and directory where the drivers will be installed. To do this, click "Review…".
  4. The shell opens "Browse folders". Here you need to indicate the folder or media (for example, CD/DVD) where the drivers supplied with the device or pre-downloaded from the official website are located. After selecting a directory, click "OK".
  5. After the directory address is displayed in the driver search window, you can proceed to install them by clicking the button "Further", but before doing this, make sure that opposite the parameter "Including subfolders" the checkbox has been checked.
  6. The necessary drivers will be installed, and the problem with the lack of Internet connection will probably disappear.

But what to do if for some reason you do not have the driver media that came with the device, and the company’s official website does not work? In this case, there are additional options to install the necessary drivers, although they are recommended to be used only in the most extreme cases, since they do not 100% guarantee interconnection between the OS and the adapter. You can use the following options:

If your Internet does not start at all, then you will have to search and download from another device.

Method 5: Enable the service

If you use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet, the problem we are investigating may occur due to a service outage "WLAN Auto Configuration". Then it needs to be activated.

  1. Go to the section "Control Panels" entitled "System and safety". This is discussed in the description Method 3. Click on the title "Administration".
  2. In the list of system tools that opens, select "Services".

"Service Manager" can be activated in another way. To do this, dial Win+R and enter in the displayed area:

    Then apply button click "OK".

  3. "Service Manager" will be open. To quickly find an element "WLAN AutoConfig Service", arrange all services in alphabetical order by clicking on the column title "Name".
  4. Find the name of the service you need. If the status is not set opposite its name "Works", then in this case it is necessary to activate. Double-click on her name with the left mouse button.
  5. The service properties window opens. If in the field "Startup type" set value "Disabled", then in this case click on it.
  6. A drop-down list will open where you need to select "Automatically". Then click "Apply" And "OK".
  7. After returning to the main interface "Service Manager" select the name "WLAN AutoConfig Service", and on the left side of the shell click "Run".
  8. The service will be activated.
  9. After this, the status will be displayed opposite its name "Works" and the problem with lack of connections will be solved.

Method 6: Checking system files

If none of the above methods help, then there is a possibility that the integrity of the system files has been compromised. In this case, it is necessary to perform an appropriate check and then restore if problems are found.

  1. Click "Start" and select "All programs".
  2. Open the folder "Standard".
  3. Find the element with the name "Command line". Click on it RMB. From the list of action options that appears, choose to run as administrator.
  4. Opens "Command line". Type into its interface:

    Then click Enter.

  5. The procedure for scanning the integrity of system elements will be launched. Information about the dynamics of its passage will be displayed right there in the window. "Command line" in percentage terms. While this process is running, you should not close the current window, but you can minimize it. If violations in the structure are detected, a procedure for restoring missing or damaged files will be automatically performed.
  6. If, after completing the scanning procedure, a message appears informing you that recovery is impossible, repeat the entire process again, but this time you will need to.

Method 7: Eliminate viruses

The cause of the problem of lack of available networks may be a virus infection of the computer. Some malicious programs specifically disable access to the Internet so that the user cannot use external help to remove them, while others simply arbitrarily “kill” or modify system files, which ultimately leads to the same result.

To remove malicious code, there is no point in using a standard antivirus, since it has already missed the threat, which means it will not react to the virus, and may also be infected by this time. Therefore, we recommend using specialized anti-virus utilities that do not require installation. One of the best programs in this class is. It is best to check from another device or when starting from LiveCD/USB. This is the only way to ensure the maximum likelihood of detecting a threat.

If the antivirus utility detects malicious code, then follow the advice that will be displayed in its interface. There is a possibility that the virus has already damaged system files. Then, after eliminating it, it is necessary to carry out the appropriate check discussed in the description Method 6.

As you can see, the source of the problem with the availability of connections, and therefore with the performance of the Internet, can be a lot of different factors. They can be both external (real lack of network) and internal (various failures), caused by both the software and hardware components of the system. Of course, before fixing a problem, it is recommended to establish its exact root cause, but, unfortunately, this is not always possible. In this case, simply use the methods described in this article, checking each time whether the malfunction is eliminated or not.

From time to time, some users are faced with a rather unpleasant and extremely confusing situation: the network cable is connected, but the computer indicates that there is no network connection. In this article we will look at the various reasons for this difficult problem, and also look at methods to eliminate it.

So, let's first try to sort out the possible causes of the problem that you unfortunately encountered. If you have visited this page, you should already be one hundred percent sure that you lack the network connection itself, and not access to the Internet. It is very important to distinguish between these two concepts: if you have a red cross in your connection status, this means there is no connection whatsoever, and if there is a yellow exclamation mark, there is a connection, but it does not have access to the Internet. Know that these are two completely different problems.

Checking the connection

Well, the connection status shows a cross - this is bad, since the connection is not visible to the system even when the network cable is plugged into the computer. Let's try to figure out what the problem is and how to fix it. First, you need to check whether you have properly connected the network cable to the Ethernet port of your motherboard. It is worth noting that sometimes the latch at the end of the network cable (usually there is one) could not work - and the cable simply dangles in the Ethernet port. Make sure your network cable is properly connected. Perhaps there is something wrong with this very latch or something else.

Checking the cable and connection interface

Ok, it looks like the cable is connected to the motherboard properly. Still no results? Let's now check if everything is fine with your network cable from your provider. This happens quite rarely, but sometimes such cables can become damaged. Also pay special attention to the RJ-45 connection interface with which the network cable is crimped: the cable cores may have moved away from it, as a result of which it is not possible to establish a connection. Well, have you examined everything properly? Okay, physical cable issues can now be taken off the list.

The problem is on the provider's side

The next problem that could happen to you is problems on the side of your provider. Perhaps some serious failure occurred, which led to a complete loss of network connectivity. Sometimes such situations happen. However, in some cases, the network connection may disappear due to the provider disconnecting you from the network, for example, due to non-payment of services and other things. In general, we recommend that you call your provider and ask them if there are any serious problems on their end.

Reinstalling the driver for the network adapter

Let's move on. You contacted the provider and he indicated to you that everything is just fine on his side. What else could the problem be? Well, it may lie, for example, in the driver for the network card installed on your system. This driver may have started to work incorrectly, which caused a problem using the computer's network adapter.

To fix the problem, you need to try reinstalling the driver for the network adapter and then try connecting the cable to the computer again. Your network connection is currently unavailable, then you will have to use an Internet connection from somewhere else, however, given that you are reading these lines, you have already found it. So, you need to find a redistributable driver package for your network adapter on the Internet and install it again. You can find this driver in the public domain on the website of the manufacturer of your laptop, motherboard, or network adapter itself.

After downloading the driver to your computer, do not rush to install it right away: first you need to get rid of what is already installed on your system. Right-click on Start and select Device Manager (or you can click Windows+R, enter devmgmt.msc and press Enter). With the Device Manager window open in front of you, find the section in the list called “Network adapters” and expand it.

In the list of network devices you will need to find your network adapter. As a rule, you can easily identify it by name; for example, network cards from Realtek are often used in motherboards. Having found the name of your network card, double-click on it with the left mouse button to open its properties. Open a small window and go to the “Driver” tab. Find and click on the “Remove device” button. As soon as you remove your network card (the driver for it) from the system, run the installation of the previously downloaded driver. Once you've finished installing the driver, restart your computer.

Speed and duplex settings

Well, did reinstalling the driver for your network card help resolve the problem? Was the system able to detect your provider's network? If not, then the situation has just gotten extremely complicated. Before you give your final verdict, you need to try one more thing: set automatic settings for speed and duplex in the network card settings. It is worth noting that the problem with detecting a network connection often occurs due to the fact that the wrong speed and duplex settings are set in the network adapter parameters.

First, you need to open the settings of your network adapter: again go to Device Manager as shown above, and then double-click on the network adapter. This time you will need a slightly different tab, namely “Advanced”. As soon as you open this tab, you will see a list of available parameters for the network adapter. Next, you need to find and select the line “Speed & Duplex” in this list. Select Auto negotiation for this setting and save your settings, then restart your computer.

Going to the service center

Try connecting the network cable from your ISP to your computer again to see if the problem has been resolved. As a rule, one of the above should work - the network connection will show itself. However, if you realized that you wasted your time and nothing worked, then we have bad news for you: your network card (adapter) was probably damaged due to some kind of incident. You cannot connect to the provider's network simply because you do not have a device on your computer that can do this. We recommend that you contact a professional to inspect your motherboard, if the adapter is built-in, or your network card, as there is definitely something wrong with it.

Found a typo? Select the text and press Ctrl + Enter

Lost Internet connection is a pressing problem for any PC user. There can be many reasons for this, both hardware, for example, a broken cable, and software, for example, incorrect configuration of the router.

Most of the problems with connecting to the global network can be solved on your own, but the other part needs to be able to be correctly diagnosed so that when you contact technical support, you can give the specialists the most complete information about the malfunction. This article will help you understand the intricacies of these processes.

Signs of a Lost Connection

You can determine that there is no Internet connection by the following signs:

This is not a complete list of signs, but they are the most informative. The presence of any item means that there is a problem with the Internet connection.

Determining the cause

The first step in dealing with network access restrictions is to find the cause of the problem.

First of all, if you access the Internet through a router installed at home, you should check its functionality, namely:

When using Wi-Fi, you need to check the operation of your device's wireless network adapter by connecting another computer or mobile phone to the access point. If you use a special utility from your provider to connect to the Internet, you will need to reinstall it to check.

In cases where there is a connection, but there is no Internet, you will most likely have to contact the technical support service of the service provider, since this situation often arises when the cable is broken, the provider’s network equipment malfunctions, or access to the global network is blocked due to late payment.

Using standard tools

Windows 7 and other operating systems in the line have tools for automatically fixing network problems. To access them, right-click on the network connection icon (lower right corner of the display) and select “Connection diagnostics”. After this, the process of checking and correcting connection errors will begin, and then a report on the results will be displayed on the screen.

If the previous procedure did not help and you still do not have Internet, then you should check the connections between the computer, router and provider cable, then reboot the router and PC. This sequence of actions is also relevant if the network is accessed via a Wi-Fi router.

A more radical, but generally accessible method of restoring the router’s functionality is to reset its settings using a special pressed button on the case. It should be held for a few seconds, then the router will reboot to factory settings and will have to be reconfigured to work with your provider's network.

If you do not have access to information on how to perform this procedure, then if the router malfunctions, you should immediately contact the technical support of your Internet provider.

Changing the network connection method

If the modem does not work, you can try to connect your PC to the Internet directly. You need to connect the input cable directly to the computer’s network card and change the method of obtaining the IP address to automatic, to do this:

Manual connection setup

If the procedure described above helps and the Internet appears, then perhaps the DHCP server is not enabled on your router and because of this there is no connection on the PC. This problem especially often occurs with new routers. It is quite possible to bypass it without configuring the settings of the modem itself. To do this, you need to manually register the IP address for the computer’s network card.

Registering the IP address - video instructions:

This is done in the same “Properties” dialog of the network adapter parameters. Gaining access to this window is described in the previous section of the article. Only now you need to put markers next to the “Use the following IP address” and “Use the following DNS server addresses” fields. In the IP address field, enter the value 192.168.1.2, in the mask line - 255.255.255.0, and enter 192.168.1.1 in the gateway. As DNS servers, you can specify public Google addresses - 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 or Yandex - 77.88.8.8.

Changing the modem's IP address

Internet identification will not occur due to the same intranet IP addresses of the computer and router, so you need to be able to change this parameter in the modem settings. On common routers of the TP-LINK line, this operation is performed according to the following algorithm:

Changing the MAC address

The MAC address is a unique identifier for any device on the Internet, and when two computers with the same MAC are connected to the network, one of them will lose the connection. Problems can arise both because of the network card of the PC and because of the router address.

The algorithm for changing this parameter in the router depends on its brand. So for an ASUS modem you need to go into its settings through a browser, open the “IPConfig” tab and click on the “WAN&LAN” section. Then you should find the MAC entry at the bottom of the dialog that opens and correct it. Then click on the “Apply” button and reboot the device.

Editing MAC on a computer running Windows 8 and 7 is possible using the following algorithm:

  1. There should be no zeros in the first two positions of the address.
  2. At the end of the sequence you should set 2, 6, A, B, E.

If these conditions are not met, changes may not apply.

Contacting technical support

If after all your attempts to solve the problem yourself there is still no connection to your Internet, then you should contact your provider’s technical support by phone.

The required number is usually indicated in the contract for the provision of communication services and consultations are provided by all Internet traffic providers free of charge.

The practice of personally contacting Beeline and Rostelecom technical support shows that the call is answered fairly quickly and by fairly competent specialists who will help you sort out cables, connections, settings of the router and computer, and will tell you whether there are problems with the network on the linear part.

If, together with the operator, the problem cannot be solved, and you are still without access to the Internet, then the call will be directed to specialized engineers of the repair department.

Conclusion

Despite the fact that most problems can be solved on your own, contacting technical support will resolve the issue of what to do in the absence of the Internet in the shortest possible time and will save a lot of nerve cells that are so slowly restored. But if you like to configure and repair network equipment yourself, then the recommendations from this article will help you in this matter.
