The default search is changing. Default search in different browsers

Damn Firefox, then you know that changing the default search engine is not so easy. I want to clarify right away, I mean searching directly from the address bar of the browser. In fact, how to change the default search in Mozilla Firefox will be discussed in this article.

The fact is that the search can be done using two methods:

In the upper right corner of Mazila there is a special search box, where you can select the desired search engine from the drop-down list.

You can also search by entering a query directly into the address bar of the browser, this is where we will change the search engine.

Of course, you could not bother and just use the first method, but habit decides everything here. For example, it is more convenient for me to use the address bar of the browser.

By the way, this article may be useful to you in the future, even if you are completely satisfied with the default search engine. The fact is that some programs are embedded in the browser when installed, and can easily replace your favorite search engine with “it’s not clear what.”

Procedure

1) Launch your browser, write “about:config” in the address bar and press Enter. After which a message will appear saying that incorrectly changing the settings can lead to disastrous consequences (I retold the meaning of this message in my own words).

If you haven’t changed your mind about continuing, then feel free to click the “I promise I’ll be careful!” button.

2) A huge number of settings will appear on your screen, but don’t be afraid of this, as we will use the search to make it easier to find the item we need. Let me clarify one point right away, this is not the search that is called by Ctrl + F, the page will have its own search line.

Enter “Keyword.URL” into this search bar. There will immediately be only one item left in the list (you don’t even need to press Enter).

3) Right-click on this line and select “edit”.

After which you will need to enter the value and click Ok.

This is what these values look like for the two most popular search engines:

For Yandex: “http://yandex.ru/yandsearch?text=”.

For Google: “http://www.google.com/search?q=”.

If you regularly update your browser (usually this happens automatically), you will not find the line “ Keyword.URL.” The fact is that in new versions of Mazila the search engine changes differently.

This screenshot clearly shows how, where and what to click. There is a window to the right of the browser's address bar; when you click on the small triangle, a drop-down list appears. Select your desired search engine from this list.

Opera recently released the next version of its browser, which received an updated interface and even integration with popular instant messengers. However, the Norwegians categorically do not want to add some simple features to the program. One of these is the ability to change Yandex search to Google in the express panel.

In classic Opera, which was based on the Presto engine, there was such an option, but in modern web browsers it has been missing since its inception. You will not find the corresponding parameter in the main browser settings or even in the opera:flags service page.

Change Yandex search to Google (Windows 7/8/10)

However, it is still possible to change the search (remove Yandex from Opera), and quite easily. Just before we continue, we must warn:

Attention: the procedure at the time of writing only works in one direction. That is, you can change Yandex to Google, but you will not be able to return Yandex specifically to the search field in the express panel using the same method. Google will be there forever.

Another important point is that you should first close Opera so that the browser does not work even in the background.

Otherwise, all changes made will simply be reset and when you start, instead of “Google” you will again see the same Yandex.

To change the search, you need to slightly edit one of the Opera service files.

1. Open any Windows Explorer window and copy the path C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable into its address bar.

2. Erase the word “user” and write your nickname in the system instead. You can view it at the top of the Start menu or, for example, here:

3. When the address is generated press Enter:

4. In the folder that opens, find the “Local State” file:

5. Open it through a text editor such as Notepad:

6. Using the built-in search (called via Ctrl+F), find the word “country” there:

7. Replace the “ru” to the right of it with “us” or “en”. Do the same to the right of "country_from_server". In the end it should look like this:

8. Save your changes. Done: the next time you launch the browser, you will be greeted with a Google search in the express panel (search suggestions, if anything, also work).

By the way, if you encounter various problems when playing videos, then perhaps the reason is – to which we recently devoted an article.

Change Yandex search to Google (Windows XP)

If you use Windows XP, then let us remind you that the latest version of Opera for this system is 36.

Opera updates for XP were stopped last year.

However, you can change Yandex to Google here almost exactly the same as in Windows 7/8/10 with more modern versions of Opera.

The only difference is the file path for item #1 above. In XP the path will look like: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Opera Software\Opera Stable. Instead of “USER” you must put your nickname in the system:

Make the above changes, replacing “ru” with “en” in two places. Save the result. And when you start, Google will be waiting for you.

We repeat: it will not be possible to return Yandex using the same method. So before editing Local State, think about whether you are ready to say goodbye to the domestic search engine on the express panel.

Remove Yandex from Opera express panel

Finally, one more small detail. Many simply do not need any search at all in the express panel, because they can easily search directly from the address bar of the browser.

Therefore, instead of changing Yandex to Google, you can completely remove the search field from the express panel.

To do this, click on the icon in its upper right corner and, among the options on the side, uncheck the box next to “search field”. As a result, there will be more space for site cells.

Hello to everyone who has visited our website. Today we will look at how to set or change the search system in Google Chrome. You probably know that in modern browsers the address bar is also a search bar. We calmly enter our search query there, and the system gives us the results. This system may differ in different browsers: in one, Yandex is installed by default, in another - Google.

Each of us has our own preferences for working with one or another search service. And so sometimes there are times when the default search engine does not attract our sympathy. In this case, it can be changed.

How to change the search engine

To do this, go to the main menu of the Chrome browser and select “ Settings»

Then in the section " Search"From the drop-down list, select the desired service that will process our search queries.

As you can see, you can choose Yandex, Mail.ru. Google by default. Select any one from the list and now the selected system will answer your questions.

If this is enough for you and you have learned how to change the search service in your browser, then thank you for your attention and further success. You can move on to view another page.

However, the current article would be incomplete if we overlooked managing search engines and adding your own.

For additional settings, click on the button " Set up search engines...»

A window will open in which we see the installed search services. And below are additional ones, from various sites on which we once looked for something. Just below there will be fields for entering data of the search engine you want to add.

Let's start with the top block (main). You can also make it the main search system here, point it at the desired one, and the “” button appears. Use as default", click on it. If you need to delete a service, then click on the cross on the right.

Adding a search engine

As an example, let's add a search from the free classifieds site - Avito. This can be quite useful if you often look for inexpensive products and buy through this portal. But first, look at the previous screenshot. To add, we need to specify a link with parameters in the third field. Where can I get it?

Go to Avito (or another site that you want to add to the list of search engines), select your city, region in which you will search.

Now let's find ads with a sofa for sale. Enter the word “sofa” and press search (you can just press Enter)/

We are not interested in sofas, we need to see how a link is formed, which we can then use. Let's look at the address bar and look carefully. Let's take it apart

So, first comes (avito.com), then the name of our region or city is indicated (in our case - angarsk), and then it is followed by a search parameter (?q=), equal to our query “sofa”. We need to copy the entire link except the searched request (https://www.avito.ru/angarsk?q=) and paste it into the third field

In the first field we indicate the name of our search system, in the second field for quick access. Once all the fields have been filled in, click anywhere on the screen and our service has been successfully added.

Let's set it as default. After which it will move to the upper block.

Now let's check how it works. Let's enter any request and see that our created system processes it.

The search results will be on Avito from your city or region.

We can finish here. Today we learned how to change the search engine in the browser and how to add an additional one.

Congratulations to everyone on the upcoming May 1st!!! I would just like to wish you all a good mood and a pleasant weekend. All the best, see you again!

Why does the listener fall asleep, but the speaker does not? He gets more tired.

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. Very often a situation arises when you do not notice the checkbox in the “Set Google Chrome as the default browser” box.

As a result, all links (or shortcuts from the desktop) that you open in any programs (email, office, etc.) will lead to the launch of Chrome (if it was closed before) and the display of the site page to which this link leads.

If you are used to using another browser for this purpose (for example, Opera and Yandex Browser), then you will need make this browser the default. Sometimes the browser itself, which has ceased to be used by default, offers you to correct this annoying misunderstanding. In other cases, you can go to and put a tick in the right place. Well, you can also set the default browser in Windows settings. All this will be discussed below.

In addition, the default browser often uses a different search than you are used to. In the second part of this publication we will look at the options how to change default search to Google or Yandex in various browsers (Chrome, Opera, Mazil and others).

How to Set the Default Browser in Windows Settings

So, let's start with the fact that the browser that until recently was used by you by default, the next time you launch it, may display a pop-up window asking you to correct this annoying misunderstanding. For example, Google Chrome proposes to change the current state of affairs in this way:

In this case, all you have to do is press the button "Set as default browser" and the problem will be solved. But it is quite possible that you have previously answered this question by clicking on the “Don’t ask again” button, so you may not receive this offer. What to do in this case? Well, as I said above, there are two options: go to the browser settings or go to the Windows settings. Let me describe both of them, and you will choose the one that is most convenient for you.

So, in Windows you can set the default browser. Depending on the version of Windows you are using, the process will be slightly different. For example, for Whists, which I have installed, as well as for Windows 7 these changes can be made by logging into the “Control Panel” (the “Start” button - “Control Panel”). In the panel you will need to select the item "Default Programs".

In the window that opens, you select the last item “Setting up access to programs and setting defaults.” In the drop-down window that opens, click on the “Other” option and move the checkbox next to the browser that you want to make used by default on your computer.

At the very bottom of the window, click on the “OK” button. Just below you can select the default email program used on your computer (it will contain the ones used to proceed to writing an email). And even lower you install the default media player and messenger. This can also be important, because everyone has their own habits and preferences.

If you are still using Windows Xp, then you will still need to go to the “Control Panel”, but you will need to select the “Add or Remove Programs” item in it. In the window that opens, in the left column, click on the bottom item “Select default programs”, and then your actions will be similar to those described above for Vista and Seven:

This method is universal and allows you not to go into the settings of the browser that you want to make used by default. But the same thing can be done using browsers, which will be discussed below.

By the way, if you need, for example, Html or any other files would open in another browser or even in another program (for example, for me), then simply right-click on any such file (in Explorer) and select the bottommost item from the drop-down menu called “Properties”. In the window that opens, click on the “Change” button shown in the screenshot:

If the program you need is not in this list, then use the “Browse” button and use Explorer to find the executive file of the program you need (it may also be a browser). It's simple.

Make the default browser Yandex, Chrome, Mazila, etc.

You just need to click on the name of the browser that caused you problems and you will receive a complete collection of instructions on how to fix problems with choosing the default search in Firefox, Yandex Browser, Chrome and Internet Explorer.

There is one more nuance. If you have the Yandex version of Mazila, then changing the search will not work. Here you will need to demolish the Yandex version, then go to Mazila’s official website and, and then. After this, you can configure the default search in this browser using the method described above.

IN Google Chrome default search It's also pretty easy to change in the settings. To do this, just click on the button with three horizontal lines in the upper right corner and select “Settings” from the drop-down menu (see the screenshot at the beginning of the previous section). On the page that opens, in the “Search” area, you can use the drop-down list to select the default search engine.

If you want to add a new search engine, then click on the “Configure search engines” button and at the bottom of the window that opens you will be given this opportunity.

IN Yandex browser and new Opera choosing a search engine is done in exactly the same way, because all three of these browsers work on the same engine, so their settings are very similar.

IN old Opera 12.17 You will need to select “Settings” - “General settings” from the Opera button menu (located in the upper left corner), and then in the window that opens, go to the “Search” tab.

In the window that opens, you will need to click on the desired search engine and click on the “Edit” button on the right. Another window will open, where you should click on the “Details” button and check the “Use as default search service” box. That's it, click on OK and check.

IN Internet Explorer everything is quite simple. On the right side of the address bar, click on the arrow next to the magnifying glass icon:

At the bottom you will be able to select the search engine you want to use to search for the query you entered. If the desired search was not found there, then add it using the button of the same name located slightly to the right.

Good luck to you! See you soon on the pages of the blog site

Search Yandex by default in FireFox

A browser that to this day is not inferior to its competitors in functionality. Perhaps many users simply do not want to try new ones while staying with Mozila. If you need to make Yandex the default search in Mozilla, then follow these steps:

1. Go to FireFox configuration settings. To do this, open your browser, enter the command “about:config” in the address bar and press “Enter”.

Next, the system will notify you that incorrect changes may adversely affect the further operation of the browser. Follow only those commands that are included in the manual; it is not recommended to engage in amateur activities without knowledge.

2. Confirm your caution in the pop-up window and find the “Keyword.URL” mini-section in the list. The search will be much easier if you enter this command in the “Search:” line.

4. A window will open in which you need to enter the address “http://yandex.ru/yandsearch?text=” (without quotes) and click “Ok”.

All that remains is to check.

It is in these ways that you can easily set Yandex search as the default in your favorite browser.

Why, after restarting the browser, the settings were lost again, and “Yandex” is no longer the default search?

If you experience problems changing your search engine too often, then you are being “terrorized” by a virus. Such software cannot be called very malicious, because it only changes your browser settings. However, there is no need to endure inconvenience - get rid of it.

The constant change of settings is usually influenced by a certain “[email protected]” or “[email protected]”. Uninstall this program from your computer using the Control Panel. You should also remove this software from startup.

Typically, these programs are installed automatically during the installation of other software. For example, you decided to download Skype, started the installation and discovered during the installation that programs from mail.ru were being installed. This means that you have downloaded a repack with a virus; when installing it, you should uncheck commands that do not need to be executed, for example, “Set mail.ru as default search.
