Cool cursors for Windows 10. Windows design. Custom cursor sets

A pointer is an arrow with which the user interacts with programs and files. Depending on the action performed, it can take different forms (about 15 in total). Hand - when hovering over a link, hourglass - in idle mode, etc. On Windows 10, there are several built-in color schemes available for the cursor. All of them are divided into systemic, large, and huge. Additionally, it can be changed to only perform certain actions (background, help, wait). Next, we will look at how to change the mouse cursor on Windows 10.

You can change the appearance of the pointer on Windows without using third-party software. For this:

  1. Open “Start” and click on the gear icon or enter “Settings” in the search field and launch the application in the “Best match” section.
  1. In the window that appears, find the “Accessibility” category and left-click on it.
  1. Here in the list on the right, find the line “Mouse”. After this, options will appear on the left side of the screen. Choose a color and size from the available options.

Any changes you make will be saved automatically as soon as you close the Options window.

This method is suitable if you want to quickly increase or decrease the cursor or change color. For more fine-tuning, use the method described below.

Via control panel

If you want to change not only the main index, but also its other types, then on your computer follow these steps:

  1. Left-click on the “Start” menu and type “Control Panel” into the empty field. From the list that appears, select "Classic App". It will be at the very top under the words “Best Match”.
  1. In the window that opens, the viewing modes “Small Icons” or “Large Icons” are available. To do this, click on the “View” button and select a convenient way for you to display controls. Find and click on the line “Mouse” to go to the next step.
  1. A new window will open where you can configure the mouse configuration, change the cursor and its movement speed. To change the appearance, go to the Indexes tab.
  1. The current display scheme will be shown here. If you wish, you can change it to one of the available ones. Depending on the type of OS edition, their number may differ. Click on “Scheme” and select the one you like from the drop-down list. All changes will be reflected in the "Settings" field. Therefore, you can see what the cursor will look like for different situations (idle mode, special selection, etc.).
  1. If you wish, you can change the cursor only for specific cases. For example, leave the default arrow, but change “Help Selection” (or any other). To do this, in the “Settings” field, click on the one you want to edit and click “Browse”.
  1. A list will appear with all available icons in .ani, .cur format. Click on the one you like and click “Open”. After this, the information will be updated in the “Settings” field. In a similar way, you can reassign the display type for each situation. After that, click “Apply” to save your changes.
  1. To save the created scheme, click “Save As”, enter a name for it and click on the “Ok” button. After that, you can find it in the list of available ones.

You do not need to restart your computer for the change to take effect. The cursor will change immediately after you close the current window. To return the default icons, just go to the mouse properties again and select “None” or “Default” for a specific pointer type in the list of color schemes.

Interesting fact: there are two types of pointers: .cur - standard, static images; .ani - animated (can light up, blink, etc.).

Custom cursors

If you don’t like the built-in pointers, then you can create your own or download ready-made ones. Through the Oformi website you will get free access to a huge library of icons for Windows 10 (and other versions). For this:

  1. On the main page of the resource, click on the “Cursors” section and find “For Windows” in the drop-down list.
  1. Here you will see a list of topics available for indexing. They can be sorted by popularity, traffic and other indicators. Click on the one you like to read detailed information about it.
  1. On the page that opens you will see properties, comments, ratings. Click "Download" to start downloading files.
  1. Unpack the downloaded archive to any location on your hard drive. You can then set custom icons for your cursor. Through the control panel, open the mouse properties (as described in the instructions above). Here, go to the “Pointers” tab and in the “Settings” field, select the icon you want to change and click “Browse”.
  1. In the window that opens, indicate the directory into which you unpacked the archive with downloaded images (in our example, this is the desktop, but you can select any other location). Select the icon you want to add and click “Open”. After this, it will immediately appear in the “Settings” field.
  1. Click "Apply" to save all changes you made.

Please note that this way you will have to set the icons for each pointer type manually. You won't be able to change them all at once.

How to create and install your own pointer

You can create your own cursor using standard tools. For example, through Paint (you can use any other photo editor). For this:

  1. Save the resulting image in .png format. Convert it to .cur or .ani using any online converter (we used https://convertio.co/ru/). Load the file you just created via Paint.
  1. After this, you can set the resulting picture as a pointer. This can be done through the control panel, mouse properties (as in the instructions above). To do this, use the “Browse” button to select the downloaded .cur file and click “Open”.

The custom cursor can be any size and color. But we recommend setting it within 128X128 pixels and using a transparent background.

You can create a unique cursor not only using standard Windows tools, but also through third-party software. The most popular program is ArtCursors. It can be downloaded from the official website

  1. Click “File” - “Save as” to save the finished result.

The file will be saved to the specified directory already in .cur format, so you will not have to convert it separately. It will be enough to simply install as new through the control panel.

Results and comments

Now you know how to change the default pointer view on Windows 10, create and upload your own image. This can be done using the built-in tools of the operating system. But if you want to set a unique picture or draw your own, then it is better to download special software for this.

Video instruction

Continuing the topic of changes in the appearance of the Windows 10 working environment, we can offer you to download not only new ones, but also download cursors for Windows 10. Sometimes cursors are also called “mouse pointers”; they are the same thing. You can choose not only from those cursor options that are already built into the system, but also download your own.

Peculiarities

Replacing the cursor in Windows 10 takes several steps. Everything is intuitive, and all you have to do is just download the mouse cursor and replace the standard one. Please note that the basic OS package already includes several variations in cursor design. We suggest trying them first, and only then taking on third-party versions of cursors. There may be several reasons to change the cursor, here are just a few of them:
  • The old cursor is hard to see on your desktop;
  • The old cursor is too small/large;
Or you might just want a change. Although Windows 10 is a very beautiful system even without external programs, you may need to know that there are ones for this OS. Download one of them, and your mouse cursor, desktop, folder icons, and even sound effects change at once.

Cursor Settings

Perhaps you don't need a new cursor, but just customize the old one. Of course, you can download mouse pointers for Windows 10, but if what you don’t like about the standard cursor is not its appearance, but the speed of movement, or the principle of operation (double-click the mouse instead of one), etc., then the problem is in the settings. Downloading a mouse for Windows 10 is not a tricky thing, especially since it’s free, but first understand the system settings, maybe you just need to adjust the speed of the cursor movement, or its response to clicks.

CursorFX for Windows 10 helps you forget about boring cursors. Now you can change their appearance, customizing them for yourself. Various effects are also available: animation (flickering at a specified interval, for example). The cursor can be made translucent or transparent, and the movement route can be adjusted.

The program is constantly updated with new visual cursor effects. As a result of the latest update, specularity and shadows appeared. The user is invited to change the size and play with colors. The interface is simple and accessible; you can use the new effect in 2 clicks. We recommend downloading CursorFX for Windows 10 in Russian without registration and SMS from the official website.

Since the appearance of the very first version of Windows - Windows 3.11, a completely new era has begun, which is characterized by the widespread use of PCs throughout the world. The graphical interface (instead of the usual text one), as well as the computer mouse, significantly contributed to the popularization of computers. Learning and working in the system has become simple and intuitive, thanks to the complete visualization of interface elements.

A computer mouse is an integral tool that provides comfortable navigation in Windows Explorer, as well as working with programs. The presence of a cursor and the pinpoint accuracy of its movement allow you to optimize the work process, making it comfortable, fast and productive. The ability to change wallpaper, theme and cursor allows you to make using the system comfortable from an aesthetic point of view.

Cursors with visual effects for Windows 10

Cursors, like other elements of the Windows OS interface, can be customized. Today you can find a huge variety of types of cursors on the Internet. For example, the CursorFX program contains a huge database of various cursors, which are distinguished by their originality, quality of drawing, as well as animation and sound effects!

The program is written in Russian; its interface is quite simple. In addition to settings and other introductory information, it contains four main categories:

  1. Types of cursors.
  2. Effects.
  3. Signposts.
  4. Sounds.

The first category contains diverse and original cursor options. They all differ in their type: texture, color and animation. By the way, the animation is done very competently and effectively, and the quality of execution is not inferior to the drawing and implementation of the cursors themselves.

In the “Effects” tab, you can further customize them and select them to your liking. Effects appear when you click, select text, load programs, and open windows. It is worth noting that each of the above actions is accompanied by a unique animation.

Pointer Traces – This option is less varied, but will appeal to pedantic users who want the perfect cursor.

In the “Sounds” option, you can select audio effects that will be played during various actions. You can set a separate sound effect for each mouse key.

How to download for PC?

CursorFX is perfect for those who are tired of the standard arrow cursor; as well as people who often lose sight of it (due to its miniature size). You can download the program without SMS and without viruses for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. A direct link, available without registration, will ensure maximum download speed to your computer.

Cursors for Windows 7/8/10: which ones are best to download and how to install them?

Automatic and manual installation on different operating systems

Replacing the standard white cursor with one is not the easiest task, since it requires a rather complicated installation of the executable file.

However, some users are replacing cursors, and there are many original and beautiful options on the Internet.

What are the best cursors for Windows 7/8/10, how to install them, and why is it needed?

Feasibility

Cursor is the little white arrow that you see on the screen and that you use with your mouse.

In the standard settings of the operating system, the cursor has either a black or white tint with a contrasting outline, and several millimeters (depending on the diagonal of the screen) in length.

Throughout the entire session of working with operating system resources, it does not change its appearance, although the exception is and, for which the developers provide a different cursor icon.

Why do you need to replace cursors, what is the significance of this and what function does it serve?

Such a procedure has no practical significance at all from a functional point of view, only from an aesthetic one. That is, the only reason cursors are replaced is for beauty.

This is especially true for those who record videos of their work on a PC or make streams. Such cursors look original, they are more visible to viewers, so it’s worth downloading and installing them.

In rare cases, some users may find it more convenient to use modified cursors. They can be made in a more contrasting shade, enlarged and more noticeable. Although you can make basic settings for the size and visibility of the cursor using standard Windows tools.

Varieties

What types of cursors are there and how do they differ from a functional point of view?

Some cursors may be larger or smaller than the standard one, they always have a different color, and sometimes a different arrow shape.

Cursors are not always made in the form of a standard arrow - you can often find them made in the form of an elegant icon (heart, petal, etc.).

Another differentiating criterion is how the cursor works.

In most cases - exactly the same as the standard one, but other options are possible. For example, it can disappear or change shape/color/appearance when clicked.

Cursors that track actions are also quite convenient for those who record various kinds of video instructions. In this case, the areas that were previously clicked are visualized in one way or another. This can be done in different ways - coloring the click zone, which lasts for several seconds, the presence of a “tail” of the cursor, which can be done in one way or another (although often it has a purely aesthetic function).

Installation

The operating systems Windows 7, 8 and 10 have a number of differences in their system for working with cursors, and therefore the instructions for installing a new downloaded cursor will be different.

Below are instructions for working with the downloaded cursor file for different versions of the operating system.

Windows 7

For such an operating system, the executive file will have format.inf and always the same name – install.

Once you have downloaded the cursor file, place it on your Desktop or another folder where you can quickly find it.

  • Copy the downloaded file to the cursor folder, which by default, if no other settings have been made, is located at C:/Windows/Cursors;
  • Now you need to replace the standard cursor with the downloaded one - to do this, follow the path Start - Control Panel - Equipment and sound- Mouse ;

  • Your PC's Explorer will open, in which you will need to go to the folder with cursors into which you copied your executable file;
  • Find the required file and double-click on it, and a simple double-click will not be enough - you need to right-click and select the Install section from the drop-down menu;

In most cases, the changed cursor will appear immediately, but sometimes you may need to restart your computer.

Windows 8

The process of installing a new downloaded cursor is approximately similar.

In order to install it, download the necessary file, and then proceed according to the instructions:

  • Now go to the Start path - Control Panel - Equipment and sound- Mouse ;
  • Go to the Indexes tab;
  • In the Schemes field, expand the list and select the theme you want to install;

  • After that, click Apply and OK.

But this method is only suitable if you have downloaded a graphic design archive that has an inf file format. But this may not be the case - not all archives have the cursor at this resolution.

In this case, you will have to act approximately the same as in the case of, which also does not support the automatic format for installing graphic design schemes.

To set the cursor this way, do the following:

After you restart your PC, the changes will take effect.

Windows 10

In the process of installing a new cursor, there are no significant differences in the process itself; rather, they consist in its graphic design.

To automatically install the cursor into the system, you will again need the downloaded .inf file.

If it is available, then follow the instructions:

  • Go to the Themes section in the menu on the left;
  • After that, in the main menu field, go to the Mouse Pointer Options section;

  • The Properties: Mouse window will open, in which you will need, as in all previous options, to go to the Pointers tab;
  • Select the installation scheme in the Scheme field, as in the case of Windows 8;
  • Click Apply, then OK and close the window;
  • Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

After rebooting, you will see the new cursor, as well as other changes that the graphics system made, if any.

In addition, you can install a new cursor in the Windows 10 graphics scheme manually by finding it in Explorer.

To do this, you must proceed in the same way as during manual installation on older versions of the operating system.

Beautiful cursors

Where can I get the executable files for installation?
