How to install the Skype program. How to install Skype on various devices. Where to get the installation file

What is the most necessary program on your computer? Of course it's a browser. If your computer does not have high system requirements or you even own a tablet computer running Windows, then your browser should consume as little RAM resources as possible so that the computer does not slow down and you can continue working with other programs.

Which browser uses less RAM? This issue worries many users for good reason. became much more functional and productive, which could not but affect the consumption of processor resources and RAM.

Which browser consumes the least amount of RAM?

Below we will look at the list of browsers in ascending order, starting with the most economical.

1. Internet Explorer. Oddly enough, Internet Explorer is the most economical browser for Windows. However, despite the modest consumption of RAM resources, with a large number of open tabs, the browser puts a heavy load on the CPU and simply begins to slow down catastrophically. Not the best solution for everyday use.

2. Microsoft Edge. Are you a Windows 10 user? Then the pre-installed Microsoft Edge browser is at your service, which is not at all similar to its older brother Internet Explorer. This is a truly powerful, functional and economical machine, which, unfortunately, can only be obtained by upgrading to Windows 10.

4. Opera. A powerful and functional browser that will be an excellent assistant for average people. Alas, on weak computers a significant amount of RAM will be “eaten up”, however, if you do not run several resource-consuming programs at once, then Opera will delight you with its performance.

We hope this article helped you decide on the main browser for your computer.

Browsers, like any other programs, consume various computer resources. Modern browsers are the most demanding in terms of the amount of random access memory (RAM), and they use memory in very impressive amounts. Owners of modern powerful computers with a large amount of RAM (from 4 GB) do not think about the gluttony of installed programs, but for owners of outdated or new budget computers, this indicator should be the main one. That is why I decided to conduct a comparative review of the most popular browsers in the world. The test will include: Opera 27, Google Chrome 40, Mozilla Firefox 35, Internet Explorer 9 and Safari 5.1.7. Measurements are made on a computer with 5GB DDR2 memory and an Intel Core2Duo E7200 processor (overclocked to 2x3.5GHz) running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Memory consumption of browsers with 1 tab

First, let's see how much RAM each browser uses when opening one tab with a website. For convenience, the results are presented in a diagram.

Memory consumption of browsers with 1 open tab

The most economical browsers in this race were standard Internet Explorer and Safari (Apple's browser). Opera and Firefox received the title of the most voracious, but they can be justified by excellent functionality and beautiful visualization. Google Chrome took an intermediate position.

Memory consumption of browsers with 5 tabs

Now in each browser I will open 5 tabs with the following sites: site, google.com, yandex.ru, youtube.com, 3dnew.ru.

Memory consumption of browsers with 5 open tabs

The leaders in terms of efficiency are still Internet Explorer and Safari. Google Chrome, when opening 5 tabs, significantly outperformed Firefox and took second place in terms of gluttony in this test. An unusual turn of events, but the most interesting things await us in the next tests.

Memory consumption of browsers with 20 tabs

And now I’ll open 20 tabs with websites in each browser: website, google.com, yandex.ru, youtube.com, 3dnew.ru, aykro.ua, olx.ua, ebay.com, ex.ua, megogo.net and 10 top news sites.

Memory consumption of browsers with 20 open tabs

As you can see from the diagram, Google Chrome and Safari turned out to be the most voracious. Firefox showed excellent cost-effectiveness results! But this is not the most important thing; I will describe below the behavior of browsers and the CPU load when 20 tabs are opened simultaneously.

After opening the 8th tab, Internet Explorer began to slow down VERY STRONGLY 🙂 I opened the 20th tab with the feeling that I was now using my first computer (with a Celeron 300MHz processor and 128 MB RAM). The memory consumption of this browser was modest, but 100% CPU utilization and terrible lags reduced all its efficiency to nothing. In addition, with an Internet speed of 18 Mbit, IE loaded 20 sites listed above in about 4-5 minutes!!! Never use this browser, save your nerves)))

Opera loaded all 20 sites very quickly (about 15-20 seconds), faster than other browsers. There was practically no freeze, the CPU load jumped sharply to the maximum for a couple of seconds, but then just as quickly dropped to 15-20%. You have to pay for the speed of operation with significant consumption of PC resources.

Firefox coped with loading 20 pages simultaneously just fine. There were no stutters, average CPU usage was 50-70%, page loading speed was quite fast (about 25-30 seconds for everything). The undisputed leader in loading a large number of tabs.

Google Chrome turned out to be the most power-hungry browser under heavy load. There were no significant lags when loading 20 pages, but the CPU load at startup reached 100%, although after 3-4 seconds it dropped to 40-80%. The page loading speed was on par with Mozilla Firefox.

Safari proved to be the worst when loading a large number of pages: it froze the computer for a decent amount of time, the CPU load fluctuated for a long time at the maximum level of 100%, a large amount of memory consumption and low page loading speed (much faster than IE, but much longer than other competitors ).

Freeing up memory

In the last test, I checked how much memory browsers release when closing 19 pages, all except the initial one from the site. In the diagram you can see the RAM consumption of browsers immediately after closing 19 tabs.

Memory consumption by browsers when closing 19 open tabs out of 20

Safari performed the worst, as in the previous test. Firefox immediately reduced memory consumption to 420MB, but after 10 seconds it dropped to 299MB (I credited it with the maximum value for the sake of fairness). Other browsers showed good results.

Results

Despite the fact that Internet Explorer has proven to be a fairly cost-effective browser, I highly recommend not using it! Don't accustom yourself to bad things. This is a rather primitive, slow and problematic browser, and while working with it I had an extremely negative impression. Safari would be a good choice for those who don't have the habit of opening a lot of tabs (in other cases, it's better to choose a different browser). Firefox performed well in almost all tests, and I believe it would be an excellent choice for any user and computer. In addition, Firefox has excellent functionality and is appreciated by many web developers. Opera and Google Chrome are functional and fast browsers, but they are better suited for owners of modern computers due to their significant consumption of computer resources. Let me remind you that Opera showed the fastest page loading. Share your experience using browsers in the comments :)

Good afternoon, dear readers. You recently learned about what a web browser is. Today I will tell you which browser takes up less RAM and is therefore better suited for use on weak computers. Believe me, this will greatly facilitate your work on your blog and save your nerves. So, go ahead.

I would like to immediately draw your attention to the fact that it is impossible to determine the best browser. However, you can find out the strengths and weaknesses of each program and see if it's right for you. So it is worth considering the following characteristics:

  • download speed;
  • RAM consumption;
  • support for web standards, etc.

Speed test

So, the first criterion for choosing a web browser is its speed or speed. It depends on the engine used, which interprets the html code of the page and turns it into graphic information understandable to the user.

To determine the operating speed during a cold start, special testing programs are used. As it turned out, the fastest browser of 2014-2015 was Mozilla (392 points according to Tom’s Hardware Web Browser Grand Prix XVI). In second place - Opera Next (329 points). Just a little short Chrome – 326 points. But IE received only 182 points. And this is in version 10, designed specifically for Windows 8!

Safety test

An equally important criterion for choosing a browser is its security. This is the only way to guarantee the security of the site and all information contained on it. Oddly enough, Opera became the leader here - experts found only 25 vulnerabilities in it. But Mozila Firefox was in last place (169 vulnerabilities) - going online is really dangerous.

RAM consumption is what really matters

But whatever one may say, when working with websites, the most important criterion remains the consumption of RAM. The fact is that the browser is a complex programming environment that must interact with technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript and Flash. As a result, Windows XP and even Windows 7 can no longer cope with such a load and problems begin:

As you can imagine, these web pages contain a wide variety of content: text information, search engines, photos and videos, social networking tools, etc.

A similar experiment showed the following result:

  1. Volume consumed when opening 1 window (in MB): IE – 45; Mozilla – 68; Opera – 80; Chrome – 82.
  2. Volume consumption when opening 5 windows (in MB): Mozilla - 218; Opera – 255; IE – 360; Chrome - 416.
  3. Volume consumption when opening 15 windows (in MB): Mozilla – 584; Opera – 760; Chrome – 940; IE – 1056.

As you can see, the notorious Chrome turned out to be little better than the default IE. Can you imagine what will happen if the number of tabs is increased to 40? But Mozilla Firefox showed the best result - it used only half the amount of RAM. Still wondering which web browser is the best for browsing websites?

My advice to you, friends, install and use all modern browsers. Moreover, this will be useful to us when studying the topic of website layout in the “Webmaster’s Way” section.

That's all for today, dear readers. Don't forget to subscribe to my blog - there are many more interesting things ahead.

See you again! Bye bye

Best regards, Roman Chueshov
