Interface overview

Now to use the app offline with pre-loaded maps, say a voice command "Listen, Yandex" and specify or manually select the place where you want to route.

The list of maps available for download is significant. It includes official assemblies of Yandex maps and People's maps. The developers do not promise that their application will work 100% without an Internet connection, but this will save you a lot of mobile traffic.

In general, the mobile version of Maps can be used in three modes: scheme, satellite and folk.

In a city that is well covered by the service, the scheme will be useful. In a small town, the people's map may be more complete. The satellite will help outside the city (if there is access to the network).

In addition to significant coverage of the territory of the CIS countries, Yandex.Maps has another very strong trump card - information about traffic jams. This information is updated automatically.

Also on the map, road users can indicate a dangerous place: an accident, road work, a traffic police camera or something else. This is done by clicking on the button with an exclamation mark. Some card users manage to communicate with each other in this way.

Navigation

Yandex.Maps, if there is an Internet connection, can plot driving routes both with and without traffic jams. But the main achievement of the new version of the application, of course, is the emergence of the ability to plot a route using public transport. This is what such a route looks like.

As noted above, so far public transport schemes have been implemented only for the largest cities in Russia and Ukraine.

It's still Yandex! The search for places of interest (POI) is implemented at a high level here. However, I must warn you that for full-fledged work it would still be better to have an Internet connection. This way you can receive the latest information about cafes, restaurants, pharmacies and a bunch of other places.

Street panoramas will allow you to identify the establishment on the spot, which is very convenient if you are in an unfamiliar area or city.

In the mobile application, as in “adult” maps, you can view street panoramas. From experience, I can say that this helps a lot in assessing an establishment or hotel before you go on a trip.

So, we have in our hands a serious competitor to Garmin and Navitel. Leaders and veterans of the navigation market should try not to lose in this competitive war that is beneficial for us. As part of testing, I tested these cards in three cities in Russia and two in Ukraine. The result is positive.
