The iPhone X charges slower than any Android flagship. Don't use dynamic wallpaper. Is it possible to charge an iPhone using an iPad charger?

After the premiere of the iPhone X, journalists were briefly allowed to see demo samples of the new flagship. Almost all the reporters who twirled the device in their hands left the Steve Jobs Theater in complete delight.

Most of all, the journalists were impressed by two things: firstly, the crazy speed of operation (the processor is at the level MacBook Pro), and secondly, a luxurious “tens” screen.

Now in almost all Russian and foreign IT publications you can find odes to the iPhone X. He was instantly awarded the title " best smartphone V Apple history", but there is a feeling that the reviewers were in a hurry.

Below are the ten most stringent questions and complaints about the tenth iPhone.

Why so long?

The bezel-less trend started back in 2015, when China became obsessed with reducing the non-working area of the front panel. Then the Koreans from Samsung joined this competition, and after them a surge of madness began.

Suffice it to recall the same Xiaomi Mi Mix - at first everyone thought that this was an ordinary concept drawn in Photoshop, and then the device was officially presented.

In 2017 frameless flagships Everyone except Apple already had them. Tim Cook regularly presented gadgets with outdated designs and enjoyed great sales, but in the end the corporation boss realized: if you don’t remove the frames, you can repeat the fate of Nokia and fall from the throne forever.

It feels like the decision creating an iPhone X was adopted in the spring, that is, only six months ago. Apple saw how warmly it was received Samsung Galaxy S8, and decided to make the same device without frames.

As a result, the “ten” was sculpted in a hurry, and the design turned out to be very predictable: only the most frostbitten fans believed that Apple would cope with the rather ugly top strip and be able to present something completely frameless.

Of course, Cupertino ruled out this option and announced a flagship with a mediocre working screen area (81.49%).

If anything, LG V30 has 83.24%, and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has 82.63%, that is, iPhone X is far from being in the top in this parameter.

But the main disadvantage is the timing. The gadget will reach customers only in November. Here new questions immediately arise.

Since the iPhone X turned out to be so commonplace, why was it so terribly late in arriving on the shelves of communication stores?

It's sad that Apple's missed deadlines are becoming a pattern.

First the watch delayed, then the AirPods, followed by smart speaker, and now - iPhone X. This is undignified, wrong and disgusting in relation to users: in November, when the scarce iPhone X deigns to debut on sale, only speculators will be happy, for whom an unimaginable profit will shine.

Why such a pathetic set?

YouTube" with twice the slowdown.

No one would mind if Apple included a device for fast charging(50% in 30 minutes), but you will have to buy such an adapter yourself.

Okay, but then why not at least give people a “cube” from the iPad with a power of 12W? With it, the iPhone is powered up noticeably faster (a little more than a minute per 1 percent), but Apple squeezed even such a modest bonus.

Sadly.

Why offer mocking amounts of memory?

In 2012, Apple Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller mockingly said that wireless charging According to the Qi standard, it cannot be called wireless.

Five years later, this standard appeared in the iPhone, and now Apple acts as if it had added a brilliant feature. At the presentation we were already told that soon Qi-mats will be in cafes, restaurants, airports and train stations so that people can charge their iPhones.

There are several disgusting nuances here:

1. Charging will be slow ( maximum speed- 7.5W, Samsung - 15W).

2. It’s difficult to use the phone while charging (it’s just inconvenient).

3. For home use charging will cost under $100 (like all Apple branded accessories).

Essentially, the company has introduced new iPhone old Android option and shows it off with undisguised pride. Okay, we're waiting for Phil Schiller and Tim Cook to cut holes for the memory card and the second SIM card.

It's time - it's time for innovation.

Why did the interface remain the same?

The iPhone X will go on sale in only two colors: silver and space gray. There is no pink case, no white, or even gold. It is impossible to understand what caused this limitation: either difficulties in production, or the desire to include new colors in the line next spring.

And yet, in this parameter, the iPhone X loses out to the Galaxy S8 by one wicket: the Samsung flagship can be taken in any color, from blue to gray and gold.

What to do with maintainability?

dozens" will lead to either death or significant deformation.

But the worst thing is thinking about the cost of repairs. Eldar Murtazin has already suggested that the cost of replacing glass in an iPhone X in Russia will be 35 thousand rubles. If this is true, then one can only sympathize with the owners of the frameless flagship: even in thin iMacs, the glass is replaced cheaper than in the iPhone X.

Where is the innovation?

"Welcome to the future" - this is how Apple announced the iPhone X. The product description mentions the phrase "many other innovations" - it is clear that there is no smell of modesty there.

Let's go point by point.

The screen has become larger - this was expected. The frames have become smaller - everything is logical. Two cameras with optical stabilization are good, but not lethal for competitors. Face recognition is fine, but there was no need to kill TouchID.

A good front camera - for such and such money. Wireless charging is a shame. Fast charging is also a disaster. Battery life is standard.

Augmented reality? Nothing is clear about her yet.

It turns out that the iPhone X is a very good, fast and high-quality smartphone, but there is simply no innovation in it. And this is really strange when we are talking about a device that costs a thousand dollars, or 80 thousand rubles.

I’ll tell you frankly, the iPhone has long been no longer a standard in terms of operating time. If 5 years ago people laughed at Android smartphones and joked about how many hours a day the owner spends at a power outlet, then they started making fun of iPhones too. What to do, devices are constantly connected to the Internet, they are never released from your hands, while the cases are becoming thinner and thinner, and the battery capacity remains at the same level.

There is a problem, there will be a solution. On Android smartphones, everything is solved simply, buy a phone with a fast charging function, that’s all. Different manufacturers have different technologies. Some are Qualcomm QuickCharge, others have their own names - Dash Charge for OnePlus or mCharge for Meizu. The essence is the same, the phone charges quickly while the person goes about his business. On average, in half an hour you can recharge the battery by 40-50%, and this is easily enough for several hours of using the device.

Let me remind you that the iPhone comes with a low-power 5 W power adapter. With it, the iPhone 7 does not charge very quickly, let alone the 6s Plus or 7 Plus versions. The box with the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X contains the same modest adapter.

That's why I've been using the included 12 W iPad power supplies for a long time. Charging time is rapidly decreasing, there are no problems with the battery, after a year and a half the battery is still working fine, judging by personal experience. The asking price is 1,590 rubles per adapter, you can buy it in any store. Cheap and cheerful, as they say. But still, this is not as fast charging as we would like.

It's strange, but Apple sells a more powerful adapter for the price of a weaker version

How are Apple doing with it after the presentation of new products? The description of the characteristics of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X says that the fast charging function works. Phones charge up to 50% in 30 minutes, the results are apparently average for the market. However, this is great progress for Apple, because charging a phone for hours is just a pain.

So far, there are no full-fledged tests where one could see the results of the operating time of the new iPhones. Personally, I don’t expect anything new; I think the numbers will remain the same. With active use, even an iPhone Plus version with a large battery will have to be charged twice a day. Apple says the iPhone 8 and iPhone X can last up to 12 hours of browsing on a single charge, while the iPhone 8 Plus claims up to 13 hours of use. There will also be support for wireless charging, but the adapter will only go on sale in 2018, so we won’t talk about it this time.

But now you can charge your phones faster using a powerful power supply. This is where Apple's magic works: you need to buy a USB-C dongle and a USB-C to Lightning cable to use the new feature. So far, Apple has 3 different USB-C adapters, they are used to charge the MacBook. The simplest USB-C power adapter with a power of 29 W costs $49 (3,590 rubles), then there is a 61 W version for $69 (5,490 rubles), the most powerful 87 W costs $79 (5,790 rubles). A USB-C to Lightning cable will cost another 1,990 rubles, but no one is stopping you from buying a cheaper option from a less expensive manufacturer.

Here's what Apple itself says on this matter.

The 29W USB-C power adapter lets you charge your device quickly and efficiently at home, in the office, or on the go. The adapter is compatible with any devices that support USB-C. Apple recommends using it to quickly charge iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. USB-C to Lightning cable sold separately.

The USB-C cable specifications say the following:

Additionally, this cable can be used to charge iOS devices using a 29W, 61W, or 87W Apple power adapter, as well as fast charge iPad Pro, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

So feel free to use powerful accessories to speed up charging.

It is not yet clear which version you need to buy to use the fastest charging, whether the simplest 29 W unit is enough or not. We will check this during field tests, but one thing is for sure. Fast charging has finally arrived on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. At what cost is another question.

I wonder how long the iPhone X battery lasts, and also how long it takes to charge it. The answer to these questions is below the cut.

So, the iPhone X comes with a battery with a capacity of 2716 mAh. The battery itself is L-shaped. Apple did this deliberately to squeeze as large a battery into the case as possible. Of course, the iPhone X's battery isn't as big as what you'll find on Android phones, but it's larger compared to the iPhone 8 Plus.

How long does the iPhone X battery last: operating time

Foreign bloggers tested it for several days with a $1000 phone and, of course, tested the battery. Below you will see a comparison of the iPhone X battery with some other iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models.

So, according to the experiment, the operating time of the iPhone X is 8 hours 41 minutes. For comparison, the operating time of the iPhone 8 Plus is 10 hours 35 minutes, the iPhone 8 is 8 hours 37 minutes, Samsung Galaxy S8+- 8 ocloc'k. You can see the rest of the indicators in the chart below.

How long does it take to charge iPhone X?

Another indicator that was analyzed was the time it takes to charge the iPhone X. By the way, this is the first iPhone that finally began to support the fast charging function. However, for this you will need to buy an additional accessory. The bloggers used a regular charger, which is included in the kit. The test results can be seen in the chart below. As you can see, to charge the iPhone X to 100 percent, you need to spend 189 minutes.
