ICloud—login to your cloud storage account. Adding a backup email and how to change Apple ID

E-mail has become for all of us not just a means of communication, but a tool necessary for the full use of the Internet. Without an email account, it is impossible to register on any portal, subscribe to a newsletter or log into an account to pay for purchases in online stores. Providing mail services for every company is an important part of business, and that is why, as part of its iCloud cloud storage, Apple also launched a service for receiving and sending electronic correspondence, which we will talk about today.

Of course, the easiest way to use iCloud mail is from iOS devices. But icloud.com mail also supports logging in from a computer, and you can read incoming letters or send mailings directly from the browser window. The main thing is that the “Mail” application itself is active for your account, but we will talk about all such points in detail below.

Login to your account

First, let's look at the simplest option of how to log into iCloud mail from a computer. If you already have an Apple ID account (read about logging into iCloud via Apple ID), and this identifier itself ends in addresses such as @icloud.com, @mac.com or @me.com, then you only need:

  1. Open an Internet browser.
  2. Enter icloud.com into the address bar and press the Enter key.
  3. Enter your login information in the appropriate fields, and then click on the right arrow button.

Important! If you used a different email address when registering your Apple ID (that is, if you did not receive a free email address from Apple), then you will need to enable the Mail app for each specific device, which will be discussed below.

It also supports iCloud mail and login from a Windows-based computer through a special application. In order to use this program, you need:

  1. Open your browser and follow the link support.apple.com/ru-ru/HT204283.
  2. Click on the blue “Download” button.
  3. Confirm the download of the file and run it, then follow the instructions for installing the software.

Enable the Mail app for third-party mail

As described above, the iCloud email service will not work by default if you used a mailbox such as gmail.com when creating your Apple ID. In other words, you can log into icloud.com mail from a computer without additional settings only if you have an Apple email address. In other situations, you will need to perform a number of actions, the list of which differs for each of the devices used, namely:

  • on a tablet computer or smartphone with iOS, you need to open the settings, select the “iCloud” section, turn on the “Mail” item, and then make the simplest email address settings, following the prompts;
  • On a computer running MacOS X, you need to open the Apple menu and go to the system settings section. In the “iCloud” section, select “Mail” and follow the setup instructions.

Important! It is necessary to make these settings in order to be able to send mail through the iCloud service. The thing is, this can't be done without an address that ends in @icloud.com or another approved domain. It is the implementation of the instructions above that will allow you to create such a mailbox for yourself in addition to the one that was used during registration.

Registration

If you want to log into your iCloud account from your computer in order to only exchange mail, but do not intend to use this account as your only and main one, then you can simply register a new ID for yourself, and at the same time get rid of the need to make any settings . This is done as follows:

  1. You need to visit appleid.apple.com.
  2. Click on the “Create Apple ID” button.
  3. Go through the standard registration procedure by creating a new email address from Apple.

Using the email service itself, I hope, will not cause you such difficulties as logging into iCloud mail from a computer. And the video below will help you not to get lost in all these forms and menu items. You can also read about data recovery using iCloud, and read about finding iPhone using iCloud.

Switched from iPhone to Android smartphone? Are you satisfied with everything, but almost immediately you realize that you left important materials in the iPhone mail? Unfortunately, users quite often encounter a similar problem and are interested in how to log into iCloud from Android and what is required for this.

iCloud on Android: is it possible?

Apple and Google software constantly conflicts, and there is no official login to iCloud via Android. It will not be possible to install the application for this mail via Google Play, and it is impossible to find it on the Internet.

If you try to transfer iCloud via Bluetooth to your phone and install it that way, the system will definitely give an error. It’s the same with the online version: by entering your email address into a search engine, you end up on a gray non-working page with the text “This connection is not supported” or “Your browser is not suitable.”

But don't despair, there is still a way out. Apple services can be made to work on Android, and we’ll figure out how now.

To do this, you will need regular mail already installed on your Android device. Gmail is absolutely not suitable, but the standard application called “Email” is an ideal option. Yahoo and Outlook are also allowed. Have you decided on mail? Great, now open it and begin to perform the following steps strictly according to the instructions:

  1. We enter the first necessary data: full iCloud address and user name (text indicated before the “@” sign);
  2. Necessarily click "Manual setting". If you try to log into iCloud using only your address and password, nothing will work;
  3. Next, enter the password. Please note that it is almost impossible to restore it on Android, so be careful!
  4. In the next column we write "mail.me.com". No commas, spaces or capital letters;
  5. We choose the type of protection, most often it is SSL, according to the certificate;
  6. We indicate the port 993 . Don't bother changing the numbers to suit your operating system. All data must be indicated only from the instructions;
  7. The last line, namely "IMAP Path" skip;
  8. Click “Next” and proceed to the necessary fine-tuning SMTP server;
  9. In the “Address” field we duplicate the one already entered, only instead of « imap» we write « smtp»;
  10. We indicate the same protection, it is also allowed TSL;
  11. In place of the port we enter the numbers 587 .
  12. Ready. All necessary data has been entered. Click “OK”, and if an authentication notification appears, we agree.

Now it is possible to work with messages from iCloud on Android. But photos, videos, documents are still inaccessible because they are located in the Cloud. We will discuss how to solve this problem below.

Other mail login options

You can try other applications; Google Play provides a huge number of email services to choose from. If the above method seemed too complicated and convoluted to you, you can simplify the task a little. We use the postal service for this. myMail. It only requires an email address and password, no other network information is required. Unfortunately, this method does not always work.

How to access the iCloud cloud on Android

You won't be able to access the Cloud directly from an Android phone. The only way out is to select a different method for each type of information. Let's look at an example of the most used materials.

Transferring contacts

To do this, you will also need access to a computer, since Google has a built-in service specifically designed for storing the phone book. After synchronization, contacts from iCloud will be placed there. Begin:

  1. Open the main page of your Google account on your PC, log in with your password and login;
  2. Click "Contacts", Then you can choose from import and export. Accordingly, import suits us. Click on "Other postal service";
  3. Enter your iCloud details. Made.

After a successful procedure, all the necessary numbers will appear on your Google account, from where you can freely use them on your Android device.

It is advisable that before this, contacts are stored directly on the phone, and not on an SD card.

Transferring data from the calendar

Your Apple calendar stored important data such as scheduled meetings, urgent events, birthdays of friends and colleagues, but after switching to Android, you lost access to it? Don't worry, the situation here can be corrected, everything can be solved in a few clicks using a special application Sync for iCloud.

This application is specially released for smartphones running Android, so the operating system will not conflict with it. The program does not have any special functionality, but it copes with its main task: transferring calendar data from iCloud. It also has useful advantages:

  • Completely free, all options are provided to the user at no additional cost;
  • It is possible to easily work with iCloud on Android. That is, you will not only get access to a previously registered calendar, but in real time you will be able to carry out the necessary operations with it;
  • You can create multiple accounts on one device;
  • Do you want to make the iCloud calendar the main one on your phone, since the built-in one is not suitable for some reason? No problem, just turn on "Default" in the settings.

Transferring music

Here, too, the situation is quite simple, you just need to use a well-known application Google Play Music. This player program, surprisingly, works well with iOS devices. By installing it on your smartphone, you can easily access media files in the Cloud. Don’t forget also about special products from Amazon that allow you to connect several accounts. The ideal solution is Amazon Cloud Player.

Some tips on how to get the most out of iCloud Mail.

If you have an Apple ID, then you also have an iCloud email account. It gives you 5GB of email storage for free, minus the space taken up by other data in your cloud account.

You can easily access iCloud Mail in the Mail app on your Mac or iOS device. But at the same time, you may miss some of the opportunities that open up when you open your mailbox through the iCloud web interface.

Today we will talk about exactly this.

1. Access your mail from anywhere

You can check your mail not only through or, but also directly from the browser. This is convenient when you need to receive or send an email from a computer installed in a public place. Just log into icloud.com with your Apple ID and click on the Mail icon.

Here you will have access to all your emails - and all contacts if they are synced with iCloud - being able to chat as well as receive/send files. This can be useful if you need to print an attached document when meeting with a client or friend.

2. Create rules that will work across all your devices

For iCloud mail, you can create universal rules or filters that will apply to all incoming messages on all devices: even on a Mac, even on an iPad, even on an iPhone.

To do this, you need to create such filters for almost on the icloud.com page. For example, you can filter emails so that all messages from a specific person are sent to a specific folder. To create a new folder, click on the “+” sign next to the Folders section and enter its name.

Then click on the gear icon in the lower left corner of the Mail interface in iCloud, select Filters and click on Add a filter. Here you can set certain filtering conditions: what to do with letters from a specific recipient or domain; containing certain words and so on.

Now all letters that meet the specified conditions will be filtered directly on the iCloud server.

3. Let everyone know that you are out of office.

Here's something you can't do in Mac or iOS Mail. If you are not at work, say you took a vacation, then it would be a good idea to notify your colleagues/friends about this and at the same time let them know when you will return.

Click on the same gear, select Settings and go to the section Vacation. In the field that appears, enter the phrase that will be sent to the address of the received letter. Just don't forget to check the box next to Automatically reply to received messages.

You can combine this feature with Filters. Simply forward your driving emails to a colleague who will perform your duties during your vacation. When you return, simply turn off this filter.

4. Forward emails to another account

Surely you have several more email accounts besides iCloud. In this case, it will be convenient to enable forwarding so that letters coming to your iCloud account are automatically sent to one of your other mailboxes. This way you won't have to check two mailboxes at once.

Click on the already familiar gear, open Settings and go to the tab Basic. Click on the checkbox Forward my mail and enter your email for this action.

If you check the box next to Delete messages after forwarding, then incoming letters in the iCloud mailbox will not linger - they will only be available at the address you specified when forwarding. This can be convenient for saving free space in iCloud.

Today there are quite a few cloud storage services and an iPhone user can use any of the available range of services. However, perhaps the most convenient way for the owner of an iOS device is to back up important information through the iCloud service - a cloud developed by Apple specifically for its users.

Of course, the main advantage of the “native” cloud is that the owner of an iPhone or other iOS gadget does not need to install anything additional - iCloud is “built in” to the user settings, in addition, there is a special additional application iCloud Drive - a little later we will figure out why it is need to.

Another plus is, again, the absence of unnecessary hassle with creating a special account. To log into the iCloud cloud, you do not need to create any new account; the user's Apple ID is used.

And finally, the third, also very important advantage of iCloud is that you can conveniently interact with it not only on the mobile device itself. You can also access the cloud from a computer using a special program or through a browser and the iCloud.com portal.

How to manage iCloud from a mobile device?

The initial iCloud setup begins in the Settings menu of your iOS device. Find the iCloud item in the settings, tap it, enter your Apple ID.

Synchronization

A service menu will appear in front of you, which is very easy to manage. You simply select in the “Programs using iCloud” section those applications in which you want to backup the information stored in them, and then activate the corresponding slider. As soon as the slider is turned on, the gadget data is synchronized with the cloud and other iOS devices where you are logged into your iCloud account using a single Apple ID. Simply put, if you have two iOS devices, for example, an iPhone and an iPad, and you use the same Apple ID on them (which, of course, is most likely), then the information between them will be synchronized.

It is worth noting that no one prohibits enabling synchronization for all programs available to the cloud, however, please note that only 5 GB of storage space is provided to the iOS user for free. So if you want to save money, it's better to configure your synchronization settings wisely.

Find iPhone

After setting up synchronization, you must also select the options for the “Find iPhone” and “iCloud Backup” sections. We strongly recommend enabling the first option; it will help you in case of loss or theft of your device. The option will allow you to lock the device and place a random message with the owner’s contacts on the locked screen.

Backup copy

Regarding the second section, there are subtleties here. By creating a backup, you actually “put” all the information on your device into the cloud, including even correspondence in instant messengers. This, of course, is great, because here if we need to clean the smartphone (and such a need may arise if the device begins to work slower and/or with errors), then we can safely clean it, and then simply restore the data from the cloud and start using it as if nothing had happened .

But... Of course, there is a “but”. The “5 GB rule” also applies here, so you should think about whether all the information stored on the device is really needed? If yes, then create a copy - if you want manually - in this case you need to periodically go to the backup menu and click on “Create a backup copy”. Or you can turn on the “Backup to iCloud” slider and then the backup will be performed automatically whenever the gadget is connected to a charger and a Wi-Fi network.

If you don’t create a backup copy, don’t worry, the data that you marked as synchronized will not disappear from your device. Even if a critical error suddenly occurs and you have to restore the device via iTunes, and then after setting up you select the “Set up as new...” option, as soon as the device connects to Wi-Fi, all synchronized data will be transferred to it from the cloud.

iCloud Drive

And finally, about iCloud Drive. This, as we said above, is a pre-installed application. Why is it needed? With it you can manage the synchronized data. In settings, you specify which programs are allowed access to iCloud Drive using the sliders located below the cloud storage menu item of the same name.

For example, you selected Pages and created a document in this application. When saving, you can save it in iCloud Drive and work with it after that both on your other iOS devices by opening the application on them, and from your computer.

How to manage iCloud via computer?

By the way, about the computer. You have two ways to view information stored on the cloud via PC.

iCloud.com

The easiest way, which does not require preliminary installation of any programs, is a special page - iCloud.com. To log into your “personal account” on this portal, you need to indicate your Apple ID. As soon as you log in, you will see a menu that may differ for different users - depending on what synchronization parameters are specified in the settings.

The most valuable feature of the site is the activation of the lost mode, which is available when the “Find iPhone” option is turned on. Otherwise, the functionality of the portal is very prosaic - you can work with all the files stored on it, you can create new ones in the appropriate sections, and all changes will be synchronized. That is, if you make changes to a note on the website, it will change on the device.

iCloud program

If you own a Macbook or desktop Mac, of course, for you and if you want to manage the cloud through a program on your computer, there will be no need to pre-install anything - the corresponding utility is available here by default. If you have a Windows PC, you will need to first download and install iCloud.

We recommend downloading this utility from the official Apple website. Installation is very simple - run the downloaded .exe file, and everything will be done for you automatically. After installation, you can open the program, it will ask for your Apple ID - enter your username and password, then click the “Login” button. Are you in? Now wait a while for the synced data to load. Once the download is complete, you can start working with them.

Let's summarize

So, now, we hope you are convinced that the iCloud cloud (iCloud) is a very convenient and easy-to-manage service. Moreover, it doesn’t matter what kind of device you have at hand - mobile or not, you can always access your data, change it or create new ones. At the same time, it is worth noting that, like everything made by Apple, iCloud rarely upsets users with errors and problems. And, nevertheless, if you encounter any problems, you can quickly resolve them in a special iCloud support center created by the Apple giant.

Friends, hello everyone! You may call me paranoid, but I have always said, say and will talk about data security, backups on Mac and iPhone, and everything that can keep you calm and nervous. I have already written about creating backup copies, and. I hope that you follow my advice and try to make your life calmer and safer! Today I want to tell you a horror story that potentially concerns ALL users of the iCloud service whose addresses end with @mail.ru. This is how many times I’ve noticed that iCloud registered through an email address like “[email protected]” is hacked extremely easily, and then the user gets a bunch of problems on his own. I'll tell you how to change your Apple ID, as well as add a backup email address to protect your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and your data!

So let's start from the beginning. When registering an account in iCloud, at one of the first stages you are asked the question: create an account with an existing email address or create a free address on . And already at this stage, you have the opportunity to avoid problems if you choose this option.

Previously, if you selected mail on @gmail.com, @yandex.ru, etc. as the account name, there was no normal synchronization of notes, reminders, and anything else (I don’t remember anymore). Today, while writing articles, I created test accounts on mail.ru and e1.ru, and assigned them names to iCloud. And how surprised I was to learn that now there is no difference between the name [email protected] And [email protected]! That is, now there is complete synchronization of data between iOS, OS X and the iCloud server, well, except for mail, which is logical. So for now you can use any email as your iCloud name!

Now there will be guesses, which may not be far from the truth. If suddenly, among my readers there is someone who is in one way or another connected with the Mail.ru service, know that I have nothing against the company! Possible attacks on my part are directed against possible company employees or former employees, as well as password crackers .

Recently, there has been a tendency that mailboxes on mail.ru are being leaked in one way or another, to one person or another, and for simplicity, let’s call them attackers. These are not hackers (in the literal sense of the word), they can be characters from the very structure of the company (possibly) who in one way or another gained (and still can gain) access to the addresses and passwords of mail users. Theoretically, it could look like this: an attacker from the mail.ru client database selects those addresses where letters from certain recipients are found, in our case this is apple.com and related ones, such as [email protected], [email protected] and so on. Realizing that this email is used for authorization on icloud.com, the attackers block all incoming emails from Apple and hack the iCloud account itself. And then they block all the devices linked to this account and send a letter with an offer to return access to their devices by sending a letter to somewhere, and then they demand money for unlocking. Just the other day, I saw a similar “request” on a friend’s phone:

Almost always, with such a hack, the mail.ru mailbox itself undergoes changes: or password changes(less often, since the user should not immediately guess that there are some problems with the mail), or Apple addresses are added to the stop list(so that messages would not fall on the mailbox, when changing the password, there was an appearance that this was how it should be).

By the way, here's another little tip when creating an iCloud account: if you decide to link your new account to an existing mail, AVOID mailboxes like @e1.ru, @66.ru, @planet-a.ru, @qip .ru and similar local (irrelevant) servers. And especially do not use corporate email (@ugmk.com, @myfirm.ru), preferably gmail.com or icloud.com. The bottom line is that the probability of closing a local (provider/corporate) server is much higher than a large Russian or international server! Or, if you leave your provider and, accordingly, the provider’s mailbox will be inaccessible to you (@sky.ru, @planet-a.ru, etc.) And if the mail service is closed, your recovery data will be lost to a mailbox that no longer exists and you will not be able to revive your account if something happens!

So, if you have linked your iCloud account to your existing mailbox (mail, yandex, gmail...), then there is an opportunity to change something and increase the reliability of your account!

Add a recovery email address

This point is important for absolutely everyone, regardless of which email address was chosen for Apple ID - @icloud.com, @gmail.com, @mail.ru, etc.! If you did not specify a backup email address when creating, now is the time to do so. If you don't remember whether you created it, you should definitely check! Why is a backup address so important? In case of any problems with your main account, you can always restore access to the iCloud service through the address you specified. The backup address will only be used for messages related to the security of your account—nothing else will be sent to it from Apple.

So, to enter a backup email address, you need to go to the website and click on the Manage Apple ID button:

In the newly appeared window, you will need to pay attention to the Additional e-mail addresses item. If yours is empty, then we have come to the right address, and we need to add a backup email:

Click on the blue Add email field and enter an existing email that is not associated with the Apple ID. As you can see, in the example, I entered the email [email protected] , which had already been linked to iCloud and therefore cannot be used:

You need to use the backup email that you use (real mail, not fictitious), and not just take one of your existing ones, since in case of problems with the main iCloud mailbox, you will need to have access to the backup one. You can use the box of your husband/wife or a loved one. But it’s better, still your own...

After you have entered your existing email address, click on Save and you will receive the following message:

By the way, if you have already entered an email address as a backup, but did not confirm it at the right time, then now is the time to check that the address is spelled correctly, and if everything is correct, then you need to click on Resend. Next, we go to the same mail that was indicated as a backup. (By the way, after entering the address, my letter did not arrive in the mail, and therefore I had to click on the resend button - perhaps this is a glitch, but be careful: if the letter did not arrive the first time, resend)

You should expect a fresh letter from Apple in your mail asking you to confirm your current mailbox as a backup for your Apple ID, in which you need to click on the blue line Confirm now >:

Once clicked, you will be taken to the My Apple ID page, where you will be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. Please note that here you need to enter the same Apple ID that we registered and to which we linked this backup mailbox:

If you entered the address and password correctly, then fanfare, applause and solemn music of congratulations from Apple await you that the mailbox has been successfully confirmed as a backup:

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in this action, but it will greatly increase the security of your account! If an attacker hacks your email, changes your password and changes your main iCloud address, you will receive all notifications to your backup mailbox and will be able to restore everything!

Why do I need to rename my account if I've already entered a backup email address? And then, even linking your backup email will not protect you from deleting your provider email (@planet-a.ru, @sky.ru, if you have assigned a similar address to your Apple ID) or leaving the company (for example, if you linked email to @ugmk.com or other corporate email). It is better, in my opinion, to keep mail on Russian or international servers. So, we figured out why you need to change the email address for your Apple ID, now let's move on to practice.

First, you will need to log out of your account on all devices that use this Apple ID for iMessage, FaceTime, App Store, iCloud. Simply put, you just need to sign out of iCloud and the App Store on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. When you log out of your account, the phone will ask a question - what to do with contacts, calendars, notes, etc. - leave everything on the phone, and if he does delete something, then there will be nothing wrong with it - all the data is saved in iCloud and after renaming the account, everything will return to the devices! Next, you need to go to the website and there click on the Manage Apple ID button, enter your current Apple ID and password for it, and after successfully entering the data, see the already familiar picture:

And if you have gone through the process of adding a backup email, you will see changes - under your backup address there is a green inscription Confirmed! If not, then it’s time to scroll up this instruction and double-check everything. To rename your account, you will need to click on the Change button to the right of your Apple ID email:

After which a small field will open in which you can enter another email. I decided to check what would happen if I specified the backup email that I linked in the previous step as a new email? And I received the answer:

If, for some reason, you want to use exactly the same mailbox that you used as a backup, then first remove it from the Additional e-mail addresses item by clicking on the delete button to the right of the e-mail address:

Then confirm your action by clicking “Delete” again in the window that appears. Further, if all actions are completed successfully, then the field with the backup mailbox will be empty, but it will be possible to specify this address as a new one:

Let me make a reservation once again: it is not at all necessary to delete the backup address and/or use it instead of the main one - I just gave an example of how you can do it if you really want to :)

After that, click on the Save button. Immediately after this, you will receive a message confirming your account as the main one for Apple ID to your email address, which you specified as new (as well as backup, if you did not change it):

Also in the received letter we follow the link Confirm now > and enter the NEW address and OLD (CURRENT) password (well, if you used the password qwerty123, for example, then you need to enter it), and then click on Confirm address:

Again, if everything is entered correctly, then we receive congratulations from Apple, and you can safely enter your new address as iCloud and App Store and continue to use all your data as if nothing had happened :)

Friends, that seems to be all! We successfully added a backup/secondary email to the Apple ID, and were also able to change the Apple ID to save ourselves from problems in the future!

I hope that this article, despite its considerable volume, was clear to you and you were able to do everything :) If you liked this information, please share it with your friends and family through your favorite social network! You can also join my groups at
