iPhone 7 or Samsung 8, what to choose. Software: Android vs iOS. Performance and Stereotypes

On March 29, Samsung presented its new flagships, which fully met all the expectations of fans. Very attractive in appearance, the smartphones contain impressive hardware, including an Infinity Display screen and a retinal scanner. However, how much does the functionality of the devices exceed the capabilities?

Galaxy S8 or iPhone 7: comparison of characteristics

Below is a summary table that clearly demonstrates the difference in the specifications of the Galaxy S8\S8 Plus and iPhone 7\7 Plus.

Storage capacity

The Galaxy S8 received 64 GB of internal memory (twice as much as its predecessor) with the ability to expand using a microSD memory card. Thus, Samsung offered a more flexible and less expensive option, in which users do not have to pay more for a version with an impressive amount of storage. On the other hand, Apple never provided the possibility of expanding the internal memory, although it added a 256 GB version to the iPhone line and increased the memory capacity in the basic version of the smartphone from 16 GB to 32 GB.

Cameras

New products from Samsung received a 12-megapixel camera with an f/1.7 aperture and optical stabilization (the same as the previous model). According to the manufacturer, the number of megapixels remains the same, but the software responsible for the camera’s operation has been improved.

The front camera of the Galaxy S8 is equipped with an 8 megapixel sensor with autofocus.

In comparison, the iPhone 7 is equipped with a 12-megapixel module with an f/1.8 aperture (the front camera is 7 MP), and the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera. Currently, none of the Samsung models has this functionality.

When it comes to zoom and the various effects it offers, the Apple smartphone is certainly the leader, but if camera performance is important to you, then it’s better to pay attention to the Galaxy S8.

Functionality of Galaxy S8 versus iPhone 7

Samsung has largely revised its practices regarding devices and no longer equips models with a large variety of functions that smartphone owners may not use. In an effort to make devices simpler and more convenient, the company is careful about what functionality is worth implementing. The Galaxy S8 received many useful features that are missing in the iPhone 7, including support for wireless charging and virtual reality, an NFC module, a USB-C port, a heart rate sensor, a Bluetooth 5.0 module and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

For the first time, Samsung developers abandoned the physical Home button and placed the fingerprint scanner on the rear panel.

The Galaxy S8 became the first Samsung smartphone to implement support that allows you to turn the gadget into a real desktop by connecting peripheral devices (external monitor, mouse, keyboard) to it.

To be fair, it is worth noting that the iPhone 7 also has its own features - support for Apple Pay, 3D Touch and stereo speakers. In addition, a red version of the iPhone 7 is now available.

Software: Android vs iOS

Perhaps one of the most significant differences between the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 is the operating system. The first one runs Android, and the second one runs iOS. Both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages and ultimately the user's choice comes down to their preferences.

In the Galaxy S8, the manufacturer has improved the software, making it more convenient and accessible to the user. If we talk about first impressions, in terms of software, the Galaxy S8 is significantly different from smartphones previously released by Samsung.

Apple has plenty of time left to beat the Galaxy S8

Before you draw any conclusions about which smartphone is better, you need to remember that the Galaxy S8 competes with last year's iPhone. It is likely that the situation will change in September, when Apple will introduce the new anniversary (iPhone turns 10 years old) generation of its smartphones. According to rumors, the line will include an iPhone 8 model with a curved OLED display, a new generation processor, support for wireless charging and an iris scanner.

Apple iPhone 7 has finally found a worthy opponent in the released Galaxy S8 from. In anticipation of the official release of the iPhone 8, which will take place in almost six months, there are indeed some reasons in favor of choosing the Galaxy S8 over the iPhone 7.

Design

In terms of design, the clear winner is the Samsung Galaxy S8. The frameless design of the device with an Infinity display on the front panel looks very futuristic. The iPhone 7, with its traditional design developed three years ago, is clearly losing out to the competition. The bezel-less design makes the Galaxy S8 look compact even with its large 5.8-inch display. The glass body on a metal frame gives the Galaxy S8 the appearance of a premium device. This design appeared back in 2015 on the Samsung Galaxy S6, but has since become more ergonomic. New color solutions launched by the company also helped to refresh the atmosphere.

Both phones are dust and water resistant, although the Galaxy S8 has a better IP certification. The S8's IP68 rating means it can withstand being in cool water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters. iPhone 7 is IP67 certified, meaning it can be submerged in cool water for up to 15 minutes and has a maximum depth of 1 meter.

Display

The edge-to-edge design coupled with the Infinity Display makes the Galaxy S8's screen larger and better than the iPhone 7. The smartphone features a 5.8-inch curved Super AMOLED display with QHD+ (2960 x 1440) resolution and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This new format is better suited for multitasking and at the same time convenient for operating a smartphone with one hand. When it comes to image quality, DisplayMate gives the Infinity Display an A+ rating, the highest it's ever been awarded. In addition to high resolution, brightness and contrast settings, Infinity DIsplay on the Galaxy S8 is the first display with Dolby Vision technology. It is also HDR-10 certified.

iPhone 7 still has a 4.7-inch Retina HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1334 x 750. This display benefits from excellent viewing angles, brightness, saturation and contrast settings. It also supports the wide-spectrum DCI P3 color space for better effects. DisplayMate also called the display the best LCD on a smartphone, "on the edge of what LCD technology can do." However, the iPhone's 4.7-inch front panel simply can't match the Galaxy S8's excellent QHD+ Super AMOLED display in terms of clarity, brightness, color reproduction, and more.

The times when LCD screens were superior to AMOLED are forever gone. Samsung has made significant breakthroughs in this area, and AMOLED displays are now very promising. It wouldn't be surprising if Apple plans to introduce an AMOLED display into the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 7's LCD display, however, has a huge advantage in the form of . This pressure-sensing technology allows users to interact with the operating system at a whole new level. What is displayed on the screen is directly determined by the level of pressure applied by the user. While core iOS apps benefit from the arrival of , the technology hasn't been as big of a breakthrough in digital entertainment as Apple originally envisioned it to be.

Processor, RAM and disk space

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the first flagship Android smartphone to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. The 10nm octa-core CPU clocks at 2.35GHz and is paired with an excellent Adreno 540 GPU. The international variant of the smartphone is powered by Samsung's own Exynos 8895 chipset, which also equipped with an eight-core 10 nm processor. Both chipsets use big.LITTLE technology to provide a balance between performance and battery life.

iPhone 7, on the other hand, is based on Apple's A10 Fusion chip with four cores - two running at high frequencies and two at low frequencies - to maximize performance while reducing power consumption.

Despite the 14-16 nm process technology, the A10 Fusion is more efficient than the Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets used in the Galaxy S8. When it comes to performance, the A10 stands head and shoulders above, leaving no chance for other chipsets to win in single-threaded applications. Only with the active use of multithreading can Qualcomm and Exynos chips somehow compete with it.

There is another important factor to consider - Samsung devices are known to degrade their performance after a few months. Although this happens with the iPhone, the loss only becomes noticeable a year or two after purchase. The Galaxy S8, if we draw conclusions from previous models, will start to slow down much faster.

The iPhone 7 is equipped with two gigabytes of LPDDR4 RAM, while the Galaxy S8 has four gigabytes available. However, the extra RAM doesn't necessarily mean the Galaxy S8 wins. The fact is that iOS manages resources more efficiently, and the lower screen resolution of the iPhone 7 means that applications will require less memory than on the S8. This is aggravated by Samsung's design features, which consume a large amount of resources.

When it comes to multitasking, the Galaxy S8 does a slightly better job of keeping more apps in memory. But many other Android phones with 4 gigabytes of RAM are significantly superior to this.

Smartphone approaches to storage space are very different. The Galaxy S8 is only available with 64 gigabytes of internal storage, while the iPhone 7 offers options of 32, 128 or 256 gigabytes. iPhone 7 uses a high-speed PCIE-based solution - one of the most advanced on the market. The NAND-based permanent memory that characterizes the Galaxy S8 is also considered one of the fastest, but still falls somewhat short of Apple’s narrowly focused platform.

Although the Galaxy S8 is only available with 64 gigabytes of storage, it does offer a microSD card slot. This means users can expand their storage with cards up to 1 terabyte. This cannot be done with the iPhone 7: models with more storage space require significant costs.

Camera

Both phones have a twelve-megapixel camera on the back, but they are still very different. The iPhone 7 camera has an f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization, and a 1.22-micron pixel size. The camera of the Galaxy S8, on the other hand, has not changed since the Galaxy S7: a twelve-megapixel camera with 1.4 micron pixels, OIS and Dual Pixel technology.

A slightly wider aperture and Dual Pixel allow the Galaxy S8 to outperform the iPhone 7 in low-light conditions. To improve camera performance, Samsung uses computational tricks - similar to Google with its Pixel smartphones. This means that, like the Pixel, the Galaxy S8 quickly takes three photos in a row and combines them into one with lower noise, greater dynamic range and better detail. If Samsung's implementation is even half as good as the Google Pixel, that smartphone's camera should do great in low light.

Both phones are also capable of shooting 4K video, taking Live Photos, applying slow motion, and more.

As for the front cameras, the iPhone 7 can boast a seven-megapixel device with an f/2.2 aperture and Retina Flesh, while the Galaxy S8 is equipped with an eight-megapixel f/1.7 camera with autofocus. Autofocus should allow the S8's front camera to capture more good selfies, while the iPhone's Retina Flash support gives it an edge in low-light conditions.

Iris scanner, facial recognition and other sensors

While both phones have the same basic set of sensors, including an accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope, fingerprint scanner and more, the Samsung Galaxy S8 also has an additional set of sensors that are missing in the iPhone 7. On the front side, the Galaxy S8 has an iris scanner. Samsung pioneered this technology with the Galaxy Note 7 and has now improved it even further. The smartphone also supports facial recognition, which is not available on the iPhone 7. However, the recognition system is quite imperfect and has been shown to be easy to deceive using a photograph.

Finally, the Galaxy S8 has a heart rate scanner, although it's not particularly useful.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 3000 mAh battery, while the iPhone 7 comes with a 1960 mAh battery. The batteries of both smartphones are non-removable. Although the Galaxy S8 has a larger battery capacity, it consumes more power due to the larger screen and resource-intensive sensors. Therefore, it becomes difficult to say which phone provides the best battery life - among other things, it highly depends on how you use the device.

However, the Galaxy S8 has two advantages: fast and wireless charging. The S8's battery charges from zero to one hundred percent in just one hour. The iPhone 7, by comparison, does not support any fast charging technology - in fact, it takes a particularly long time to charge with its factory 5V charger. Additionally, the Galaxy S8 can charge quickly wirelessly, while the iPhone 7 cannot charge at all. Of all the devices available on the market, only the Galaxy S8 supports both Qi and PMA - various wireless charging technologies.

Price

Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 smartphones are available from all major suppliers worldwide. Although the Galaxy S8 is currently only available for pre-order only, by the end of the month it will be available at almost any decent retailer.
The cost of both devices is approximately the same. An iPhone 7 with 32GB of memory costs $649, with 128 and 256GB - $749 and $849, respectively. The unlocked Galaxy S8 will go on sale on May 9 for $724.99. You can also purchase an unlocked version from the carrier, but in this case it will cost a little more.

Both smartphones have a number of advantages and disadvantages. The design, Infinity display, expandable storage space, fast charging and rear camera of the Galaxy S8 are significantly superior to the iPhone 7. On the other hand, the latter beats the Galaxy S8 in app handling, performance, security and privacy settings.

The confrontation and struggle for the smartphone market between Samsung and Apple is growing every day. Giants in the IT field strive to outdo each other, using the latest technologies and software features to surprise their users and literally get them hooked on their products. And if earlier in this fight, Apple undoubtedly held the lead, today this is already quite a controversial issue...

Actually, in order to dispel all the myths, we especially compared the two most popular smartphones for you: Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7, and divided all comparisons into separate points.

Although Apple tries to polish its iOS to the maximum, they fail to use the front panel area as efficiently as possible. There is a lot of empty space left, both above the screen and at the bottom of the screen. And if the iPhone 8 is already trying to solve this problem, then the iPhone 7 still has it, as evidenced by the wide bezels around the screen.

Samsung, fortunately, has a big lead in this area, since they have been using the panel area as efficiently as possible since version 4 of the Galaxy. The latest model uses an “unlimited display”, which occupies almost the entire front panel. Even the Home button is presented not as a mechanical button, but as a software one on the display. It seems like Samsung is winning, yes! But it was not there! Due to the fact that the Samsung screen is wider, the aspect ratio of 16:9 is not achieved, so the video is played in 18.5:9.

And on the Internet, almost all videos are adapted to the ratio 16 to 9, and therefore there is no truly suitable content for Samsung, and finding it is problematic. The video has to be stretched or cropped to watch on full screen. The same situation is with games, the picture of which stretches across the entire screen and is slightly blurred. Apple has no problems with this, and the output we get is a clear picture. And it is unknown whether the world will be ready for the changes dictated by Samsung or whether the giant will have to return the standards in its next models to make amends to millions of users.

Protection Standards

Both devices are equipped with protection standards, only Apple has IP-67, and Samsung IP-68. Most iPhone submersion tests have failed, leaving users with camera performance issues. This is understandable. The IP-67 standard does not imply immersion in water, but only guarantees stable operation when water and dust get on the device, but there was no talk about immersion...

But the Galaxy S8 does much better with this. The device can be immersed to a depth of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, and the smartphone will work correctly and without any deformation.

Marking of housings

Both models have very easily soiled cases, but they have their own obvious advantages and disadvantages.

On the S8, the back panel will get dirty in any color scheme, but on the iPhone 7 this drawback is noticeable only in the black version. The remaining colors do not reveal these shortcomings.

But the iPhone loses in the dirtyness of the display. Removing grease stains from your fingers is a little more difficult compared to Samsung. All you have to do is wipe the display with a cloth once, and all the stains will disappear.

3D Touch technology

Apple's famous 3D Touch technology gives it an edge over the S8. The phone automatically detects pressure and can read actions such as swiping, pinching, or pinching, so most actions are performed this way. Samsung cannot boast of such a large set of functions.

Due to its size, the S8 loses in ease of use, especially with one hand. Yes, both devices are designed for one-handed operation, but Apple managed to achieve the greatest possible convenience, so there is a clear advantage over the iPhone.

Fingerprint's scanner

Both devices have built-in fingerprint scanners, only on the iPhone it’s the familiar Home button, and on the S8 there’s a separate button on the back of the panel.

As a result, to unlock the user has to reach with his finger to the top of the screen, which, in fact, he cannot see. This is not very convenient, so Samsung has introduced an additional option for scanning the iris of the eyes and face, but unfortunately, this technology does not have many applications yet.

But the S8 has a built-in biometric sensor with which you can measure your pulse simply by placing the smartphone on your body, for example, on your hand.

The scanner on an Apple device is standard via the Home button.

The iPhone 7 has an IPS screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches, and the S8 has a 5.8-inch screen. Both devices have ideal viewing angles, so the picture is not distorted, does not produce glare, and reproduces colors perfectly.

The situation is similar with brightness settings. Both smartphones offer roughly the same brightness options, but the Samsung's bottom end is a little dimmer.

If we compare the displays in terms of color rendering, they are completely different, but this is due to the technologies used in both devices. The iPhone's colors are much more natural. Samsung even has several screen modes, but none of them are up to Apple's level.

As opposed to 3D Touch, the S8 boasts an Always on Display mode, which will display important notifications for you even when the screen is off, such as battery charge, missed calls, date, time. On an iPhone, you need to constantly press a key to access such information. But there is a minus here too. This technology uses some battery reserve, so the Galaxy discharges much faster.

Performance

The iPhone 7 has a quad-core A10 processor, and the S8 has 2 equipment options: Snapgragon 835 or the more powerful Exynos 8895.

If we compare RAM, then the seven has 2 and 3 GB, depending on the model, while Samsung has 4 GB at its disposal. At the same time, the iPhone is still slightly ahead of its competitor in tests, albeit not very significantly.

But the whole picture changes when you actually use a smartphone. They both heat up, and if the Koreans’ phone literally starts to give up, reducing FPS in the same WoT, then in the iPhone this situation is practically unnoticeable to the user, because The decline in performance occurs very smoothly.

Camera

The iPhone has a powerful 12 Mpix dual camera, which allows you to use optical zoom technology without losing any quality.

The S8 also has built-in Dual Pixel technology, with the same resolution and optical stabilization.

In general, Samsung has long been a leader in the production and supply of smartphones with the best cameras in this segment.

If we talk about picture quality in general, then the S8 wins here, but if all sorts of effects are important to you, then the place is for the iPhone. Samsung takes much better pictures in low light conditions, as it uses technology to create three pictures in a row, which are combined into one. At the same time, both devices shoot perfectly in 4K resolution.

But the front cameras have some advantage over the iPhone, because... support for Retina Flash technology allows you to create higher-quality images in low-light conditions.

Battery

This is a sore subject for all devices, and both devices are no exception. Both devices have non-removable batteries, while the S8 is larger in size and capacity - 3000 mAh, while the iPhone 7 has only 1960 mAh. At the same time, Galaxy consumes much more electricity, because... a large screen and various sensors are used. The situation is further fueled by the built-in mode for displaying important notifications on the screen when the screen is off.

An iPhone's battery cycle lasts for a day, while a Samsung battery is discharged by the end of the day, not even lasting 24 hours.

Even in standby mode, the battery drains very quickly. The iPhone has a special energy saving mode that allows you to last for several hours even at 1%. It turns on at 20% charge and allows you to save a ton of charge.

The S8, on the other hand, has wireless charging, which allows you to quickly charge the phone in about an hour. Moreover, this smartphone supports QI and PMA wireless charging technologies, while the iPhone 7 does not have this option at all.

Therefore, it is quite difficult to make a final conclusion about which device is better overall. If you are an active user, Samsung, which can be quickly charged, is more suitable for you. If you don’t use a smartphone very often, then the iPhone is just right. In standby mode it will serve you for a long time.

Disk space

iPhone models are available to users with a choice of 128 and 256 GB, but the S8 boasts only 64 GB of internal memory. But keep in mind that you can insert an additional SD card, increasing the volume by another 32 GB. Compared to its competitor, of course, this is not enough, but it’s also not bad.

The device from Cupertino has always been provided with a fixed capacity, and the developers will continue to adhere to this practice for a long time, so there’s no point in blaming the fact that the iPhone’s memory cannot be expanded!

Frame

We have already talked about the security of the case, about soiling, but in this paragraph we are talking specifically about the materials from which the device is made and their strength. But with all due respect to the S8, the results showed that it is much easier to break than the iPhone, because it is clad in a glass case.

Software

Undoubtedly, Apple wins here, and there is no point in arguing with that. No matter how buggy iOS may be in Beta tests, in the end the developers literally “lick” their system to perfection, where everything is simple and clear.

Another clear advantage is the adaptation of devices to the operating system. Apple has its own specific line of products, for each of which iOS is adapted and all kinds of tests are carried out for compatibility and correct operation. The user can be sure that any programs, applications, or games will run on his smartphone. In addition, all devices on this system are reliably protected, because it is completely closed and does not experience the same problems with viruses as Android.

Galaxy isn't doing so well in this regard, but it's much better than it was a few years ago. Firstly, the form of Android support itself is a bit difficult. Google releases certain versions and fixes, and from ready-made versions Samsung customizes the system, develops some separate services and applications, and integrates them into its smartphones. Due to the large number of devices, it is difficult to keep Android running correctly and stable on all of them, and even after bugs are discovered, they still have to wait for fixes from Google, which, in turn, does not always respond quickly.

Another problem with Android is that the OS support period is not very long. About 2-3 years after purchasing a smartphone, you can forget about receiving updates. Accordingly, you can no longer fully use your device and download all updated applications and games from Google Play.

And the last, most important problem is the vulnerability of the operating system. Due to its "openness", Android experiences numerous problems with virus activity, as a result of which every day millions of devices are attacked by hacker groups. And sometimes the fault lies not with the user who downloaded something, but with the Google Play store itself, where the game or program with viruses pre-injected into it was moderated.

And against the background of all the disadvantages, Android also has its advantages. Due to the open operating system, the user can customize the appearance of his desktop, install various widgets, change icons, download any applications, get root rights, in general, expand the capabilities of the smartphone the way he wants.

Apple, on the other hand, ties our hands in this regard by providing only a limited but thoughtful list of features. Most file transfer and synchronization actions are carried out through the official iTunes application, which is not only a minus, but also a plus. Galaxy cannot boast of a well-thought-out and convenient eco-system and work together with other devices, as Apple offers.

Stereo speakers

Both devices integrate modern and really high-quality speakers, only the S8 has one single loudspeaker, while the iPhone 7 has 2 stereo speakers, one of which is located on top, the other on the bottom. Therefore, the sound of the iPhone is much more pleasant and believable.

If we talk about volume, then Samsung wins here. The sound in headphones is approximately the same, only Apple abandoned the “mini Jack”, using its technology through the Lighting output, as a result of which users have to purchase original headphones or use special adapters. The S8 still has the mini-jack, so you can listen to music on any headphones.

And here each user decides for himself what is more important to him: sound quality, speaker volume or ease of use.

Mute button

This is not a significant disadvantage of the S8, but it is noticeable, since we are comparing both devices.

iPhone 7 has a dedicated physical Mute key that allows you to mute your smartphone with one press. There is no such option in Samsung, and this is a big minus.

Cost of devices and their assessment

Firstly, it is worth mentioning the cost of devices over time. Apple technology, even after a year, keeps the bar at a high level, while Android devices become 30-40% cheaper after a year, and this is in the best case. Therefore, we can say that investing in an iPhone is much more profitable than investing in a Samsung. You can sell your phone at any time if it is in good condition for a good price.

Now the cost of the Galaxy S8 is slightly higher (from 54,990 rubles) than that of the iPhone (44,900). These are examples of prices for minimum configurations. But in general, everything depends on the region, online store or point of sale, and the configuration of the device.

Conclusion

In general, we can conclude that both devices have excellent characteristics and capabilities, provide a wide range of options for their consumers, and it is impossible to name a clear leader.

To make a truly right choice, carefully read the points for which you are going to purchase this or that smartphone, and buy based on this information.

Despite the fact that users are discussing the Galaxy S8 the most, the demand for Apple's iPhone 7 is not falling. Therefore, it would be logical to talk about what should you choose – an Apple device or a “Korean” one?

In our opinion, the choice is obvious - the theme of the site is this :) But let's still make a small comparison and explain why the Galaxy S8 is a good buy and in what ways is it better than the iPhone 7? Go!

Borderless screen - iPhone doesn't have that

Keeping the standard dimensions, but stretching the screen across the entire front body is a brilliant decision on Samsung’s part, isn’t it? Let us note that very often there have been rumors that Apple plans to use the same technology in its future smartphones, but so far there has not been the slightest confirmation of these rumors.

If in the S8 the screen occupies more than 90% of the entire front panel, then in the iPhone 7 the screen takes up no more than 2/3 of the space.

Unlocking your smartphone

But here, perhaps, there is parity. The iPhone has a classic button on the front side of the device and a fingerprint scanner is built into it.

On the Galaxy S8, the scanner was moved to the back of the smartphone and placed almost next to the camera - very. But at the same time, they added the ability to unlock using a scan of the retina of your eye - and this is a revolutionary solution.

Fast charging

An excellent thing that gives 100 points ahead to the flagship of the South Korean company in comparison with the iPhone.

The iPhone, by modern standards, takes an awfully long time to charge. Spending about 2 hours on a full charge is very burdensome. The Galaxy S8 is much nicer in this sense - getting almost 50% charge in half an hour is worth a lot.

Wireless charger

An additional point to the previous comparison is that the S8 supports Qi and PMA adapters. Of course, with wired charging you can charge your smartphone faster, but the wireless option is really convenient. As for Apple, apparently the corporation plans to add it to the iPhone 8, but at the moment, the iPhone cannot boast of a wireless charging option.

Two SIM card slots

While Apple is thinking, Samsung has been doing it for a long time. For many, support for two SIM cards is a huge plus.

Yes, the Galaxy S8 still has some minor limitations - you can use either two SIM cards (but without a memory card), or one SIM card + memory card. But you must admit, it’s better to have the opportunity to choose than to just get one slot for SIM cards and that’s it - this is exactly how it happens in the iPhone.

Apple, in turn, is unlikely to ever install two slots, as it pursues the goal of maximum profit. In America, everyone buys a smartphone with a contract with an operator. That is, the iPhone will only work with one operator at a certain tariff - and this is one of the reasons why the installation of a second slot will not occur in new products from the Apple corporation.

USB Type-C or Lighting?

Micro USB technology is starting to become obsolete, so Type-C is a great solution from Samsung. You can transfer data from a PC to a smartphone at tremendous speed due to support for USB 3.1 version. iPhone 7 is far from such indicators, since it only supports version 2.0.

In addition, Apple is openly trying to make money by selling its customized accessories. And you must buy them, since USB accessories in the iPhone 7 will not work with third-party accessories.

Availability of 3.5 mm jack

There is no standard connector in the iPhone 7, which is why you have to use third-party adapters if the standard cord included in the kit breaks. The S8 has a 3.5 mm jack. Therefore, if a standard cord breaks, it will not be difficult to go to the store and buy any headset - it is guaranteed to work. In addition, the S8 allows you to work with data synchronization and charge the device at the same time. In the case of an apple product, adapters are again needed.

Payment by phone

Yes, both the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 allow you to “enter” card data into the device and use your smartphone for cashless payments in stores. However, Samsung Pay has one very important advantage - you can pay with it absolutely everywhere (any terminal is suitable).

Apple Pay, in turn, cannot boast of this. iPhone requires special terminals that support contactless payment. This is not to say that these are some unique terminals - they are becoming more and more common. But at the same time, the Galaxy S8 is more convenient because you don’t have to worry about this at all.

Bottom line

In this article we did not consider such things as:

  • Which is better - iOS or Android?
  • Who has a faster processor, more memory and who scores a lot of parrots in synthetic tests.

Simply because it's not that important. Both smartphones work as quickly as possible - the user does not have to think about it. But based on what we have listed, the Galaxy S8 is in many ways superior to its competitor.

Therefore, you need to either buy a new product from Samsung, or wait for the iPhone 8, which should either catch up with the current South Korean flagship or surpass it. If the new generation iPhone does not show any innovations to its potential buyers, then it doesn’t even make sense to consider it as a purchase.

P.S. What do you think? Which is better - Samsung S8 or iPhone 7? Write in the comments. Well, support the position with a “like”, let every “+1” say that Galaxy is the best mobile device in 2017!

For some time, the iPhone 7 had no equal. But finally it has a worthy competitor - the Samsung Galaxy S8. And despite the fact that the iPhone 8 has already been released, the 7th version of the smartphone is still relevant. So which is better: iPhone 7 or Samsung S8? This question is often asked by buyers. Let's look at both smartphones and try to answer this question below.

Unlike the iPhone 7, Samsung S8 began selling six months later. Therefore, the new product from the Korean manufacturer should be more technologically advanced. Is it really?

Design

Both smartphones are very beautiful and laconic. But with the 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8 you can find serious differences. Let's figure out which ones, because many people choose their smartphone based only on its appearance.

The absence of a front bezel and the Infinity Display highlight the design of the Samsung smartphone. Externally, the Samsung S8 attracts the most attention. iPhone 7 is very similar in appearance to the previous version of the smartphone from the same company, so it does not look so modern. has a screen with a resolution of 6.7 inches. However, due to the lack of bezels, it does not seem too bulky. The back of the smartphone is made of glass and has a metal edge. This solution visually makes the device more luxurious. Samsung began producing smartphones with glass backs 2 years ago. However, thanks to the change in color scheme, the new model does not look outdated.

Who will win the fight “iPhone 7 vs Samsung S8”? Let's continue to understand further. Both devices are protected from moisture getting under the case, but there are some nuances here. Samsung can be kept in water for up to 30 minutes, and the depth should not be more than 1.5 meters. An iPhone can be underwater without incident for no longer than 15 minutes, at a depth of no more than 1 meter. As you can understand, Samsung is more reliable in this regard.

Headphones

What could be more important than headphones for music lovers?! And the quality of headphones and sound is also a very important aspect when choosing a smartphone.

Almost immediately after the release of the iPhone 7, many began to be outraged by the lack of a headphone jack. The company made this decision to make the smartphone thinner and have more space inside. Thanks to this move, it was possible to place more useful components inside the device. This also made it possible to further protect the smartphone from moisture getting inside it. However, because of this, the headphones on the iPhone 7 are now wireless, which is not entirely convenient. They can fall out and get lost at any moment. The sound of the headphones has not changed. Their body remains the same.

Not all users liked this solution, and they prefer to use wired headphones. Especially for such smartphone owners, the company supplies a special adapter with the device, which connects to the charging connector, and from the other end to the headphones. In this way, you can listen to music using regular headphones, and also connect an AUX wire, which is also popular.

Of course, in the future many smartphones will be exactly like this, but now it’s unnecessary, the public was not ready for it. Samsung did not dare to do this, and the Galaxy S8 has a headphone jack. This was not done in vain, because most users use them.

Display

The S8's Infinity Display and lack of bezels highlight the picture quality, which is significantly better than the iPhone. has a curved edge display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440. The display size is 5.8 inches. The smartphone is convenient to use, launching several applications on the screen at once, but at the same time, all this can be controlled with one hand, which is quite convenient. The display of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is made using Super AMOLED technology and is rated by the reputable company DisplayMate as the best display ever installed in a smartphone. The display can be customized according to standard parameters, but it also has Dolby Vision technology.

iPhone 7 is equipped with a Retina display made using IPS LCD technology. The screen size of the smartphone is 4.7 inches and the resolution is 1334 x 750. It renders the picture quite colorfully and has good viewing angles. DisplayMate noted that the iPhone 7 display is one of the best among LCDs. But despite this, the fact that the Samsung S8 is better remains.

AMOLED displays used to be worse than LCD displays. However, Samsung has done a great job and achieved a different result. Now Apple is working on developing an AMOLED display for the next version of its smartphone.

The only advantage of the iPhone 7 display is 3D Touch technology. Thanks to it, it becomes much more convenient for the user to use the smartphone. It detects the level of pressure on the screen and, depending on this, reacts differently to pressure.

CPU

The Samsung Galaxy S8 hides a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset under its body. The eight-core processor operates at a frequency of 2.35 GHz. The graphics processor here is Adreno 540. It uses big.LITTLE technology, thanks to which it was possible to achieve high performance and long-term operation of the smartphone without recharging.

The iPhone 7 shell is powered by a quad-core Apple A10 Fusion chip. Two of them operate at high frequency, and the rest at low frequency. This was done to increase the performance of the smartphone and its operating time without recharging.

In this matter, the iPhone 7 undoubtedly wins. The Apple A10 chip is much more powerful than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. It has practically no equal competitors. However, Apple has always installed high-performance chips in its smartphones that do not consume a lot of energy.

Almost all modern smartphones degrade performance after a certain period of time. This happens much slower on the iPhone 7 than on the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Memory

A very important characteristic when choosing a smartphone is memory. And here, too, you can find a significant difference between these smartphones. After all, the iPhone 7 has only 2 GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S8 has 4 GB. However, due to the smaller screen size and the features of iOS, the iPhone in some cases is even faster than the Samsung. The thing is that Android consumes more resources.

When multitasking, the S8 feels better and handles it without any problems. The iPhone 7 has minor problems with this.

iPhone 7 is available for purchase with versions of 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB of memory. Samsung Galaxy S8, on the other hand, only comes with the 64 GB version. This decision on the part of the company is not entirely clear, because for some users this space will be too much, and for others it will be not enough.

Camera

Continuing the iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S8 comparison, let's discuss the rear camera. Both the first and second devices have 12 megapixels. However, this is their only similarity. It took a long time to develop and is equipped with an optical stabilizer, and the size of each pixel is 1.22 microns. Samsung has the same camera as on the previous model - S7. It is made using Dual Pixel technology, and the pixel size is 1.4 microns.

The smartphone camera takes better pictures than the iPhone 7, only in low light. It is designed in such a way that when shooting a video, it combines 3 pictures in a row quite quickly, while eliminating noise and drawing all elements in more detail.

The cameras of both smartphones shoot video in 4K resolution. At the moment it is the highest. It’s quite difficult to decide who will win the battle of iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S8. Their cameras bring out all the colors and fine details when viewing photos taken with these devices.

The front camera of the iPhone 7 has 7 megapixels. It is created using Retina Flash technology. Thanks to this, it shoots well in low light conditions. Samsung S8 has an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus capabilities. Thanks to this, selfies on this device turn out to be more detailed, but it is better not to take pictures in low light.

Customization

Samsung Galaxy S8 has a feature to change the layout of the buttons in the navigation bar. You can also change the background color here. You can also customize Always On Display. But even after such convenient innovations, some owners of this smartphone are outraged by the impossibility of reassigning the Bixby button for other processes. It’s strange to hear this, because this has never happened on previous devices from Samsung. Why then be indignant? After all, the company could do without introducing such a function.

Sensors

Both smartphones have a fingerprint scanner, accelerometer and other sensors. However, the Samsung S8 also has a facial recognition function and an eye scanner. The company began installing the scanner on previous devices and has been improving it all this time. Facial recognition is not yet fully developed, as some users were able to fool this function. The Galaxy S8 also has a heart rate sensor, but no use for it has yet been found. These functions are not available on the iPhone 7.

Battery

The battery capacity of these devices varies greatly. The Galaxy S8 has 3000 mAh, and the iPhone 7 has 1960 mAh. In this case, Samsung should have longer battery life, but this is not the case. The iPhone 7 has a smaller screen, which means the smartphone consumes less energy. Also, the iOS platform is not energy-intensive. Therefore, it is difficult to say which device will last longer without recharging.

Although the S8 does drain faster in some cases, it can be charged quickly. The smartphone fully replenishes its battery capacity in just 60 minutes. It can be charged both from a wire and without it. Moreover, the time to fully charge does not differ from this factor. The iPhone 7 cannot boast such fast charging, since its factory wire is only 5V.

It is also worth noting that both smartphones—Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7—have non-removable batteries. Therefore, in the event of a breakdown, independent replacement will not work. To do this you will have to contact a service center.

Price

So, one of the main issues of choice is the cost of smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S8 only comes with 64GB of storage, so it costs $724. The iPhone 7 comes with a variety of memory options, making its price dependent on the number of gigabytes. The cheapest option is the iPhone 7 with 32 GB of memory. Its cost is $649. The version with 128 GB of memory will cost the buyer $749. The most expensive option is the version with 256 GB of memory, which costs $849.

Bottom line

It is quite difficult to choose one of these two smartphones. The iPhone 7 and Samsung S8 have both advantages and disadvantages. The Galaxy S8 looks very solid, has expandable storage, and has excellent quality cameras. iPhone 7 runs smoother and consumes less energy. It is also protected from viruses and hacking. Perhaps this is why many famous people choose Apple products.

iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung S8 Plus also have some differences. Photos at night on the iPhone come out clear, even moving objects come out clear. Samsung has problems with this; the pictures turn out blurry and unclear. On the Galaxy S8 Plus, the corners of the frames are distorted. Also, in addition to the camera, there are differences in the size of the display; compared to the Samsung S8, the iPhone 7 has a smaller screen. The differences between these smartphones do not end there. There are differences in the RAM of smartphones: Samsung has 1 GB more. The battery, compared to the iPhone 7, is 600 mAh larger in the Samsung Galaxy S8.

This concludes the comparison of our smartphones. To summarize, it is impossible to say with certainty which smartphone is better to buy. It all depends on the desire of the consumer and financial capabilities. After analyzing the information received, you will be able to make the right choice in the future. What is S8 or Iphone 7 is up to you and only you to decide.
