Apple says this is the biggest update since the first iPad, and the new tablets come in two sizes: an 11-inch version and a 12.9-inch version.

There is no Home button on the front of the tablet; instead, tablets rely on Face ID technology for authentication. This should work similar to the iPhone X and iPhone XS.
The tablets feature the latest iOS 12.1 software, but it's a little different than how it runs on existing tablets. The OS brings a lot of iPhone X features to help you use it without the Home button.
The tablet runs on A12X Bionic chipsets, which are built on Apple's own 7-nanometer process technology. The company promises not only a major improvement in energy consumption, but also an increase in performance. Single-core performance is 35% faster than the last iPad, but we won't know how powerful the tablet is until we try it ourselves.
Apple's own 7nm GPU sits inside and is said to make graphics performance a thousand times faster than the tablets that came before it...we're glad some games will run better.
We currently don't know how big the battery is in any version of the tablet, while the manufacturer has stated that the tablets will provide "a day of battery life."

As it was not difficult to guess, the main innovation of this year will be a frameless screen. The new iPad Pro comes to market with two display options:

We can say that Apple engineers have competently thought through the design of the new line of tablets. Thus, the 11-inch version of 2018 has almost the same dimensions as the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. However, the new product received a larger display. This was achieved by minimizing the frames as much as possible. They turned out really thin. True, because of this we had to remove the Home button and minimize the size of the front camera, but it is unlikely that any user will complain about this.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2018 also turned out to be frameless, but this is not its only highlight. The tablet is 25% smaller than the same version of the previous generation. This had a positive effect on ergonomics and, accordingly, ease of use.
Despite the fact that Apple has made the tablets as small as they could, the new products are not left without important design elements:
- Top end equipped with two speakers (right and left), three microphones (located in the center above the front camera), a multifunction button responsible for turning the device on/off, as well as switching it to sleep mode and waking it up (located near the right side).
- Bottom end It is also equipped with a pair of speakers and, best of all, a USB Type-C socket. This port is capable of performing a number of functions. In addition to charging, it can be used to connect other devices (cameras, smartphones, monitors). That is, you can display the picture on large screens and enjoy playing games or watching movies. So, the stylus has a one-piece design without moving areas or connectors. The matte finish allows the accessory to fit securely in your hand, making it very comfortable to work with. One side of the stylus is flat. You need to use it to apply the “pencil” to the magnetic area of the tablet to charge. When docking is successful, a slight click is heard. This way you will know for sure that the Apple Pencil has secured itself and has started charging. The absence of wires and additional transmitters makes the operation and storage of the accessory as convenient as possible.

As for the Smart Keyboard Folio, it allows you to turn the iPad Pro 2018 into a full-fledged laptop. It is made in a book format and is magnetized to the back panel of the device through the aforementioned Smart Connector.
The keyboard is full-size and contains all the necessary buttons (except for the keypad). With its help you can quickly type texts and play some games. Moreover, the keyboard has a Command button. By clicking on it, the user will see a list of available commands and keyboard shortcuts for executing them. Thus, with a couple of clicks you can save files, change fonts, cut out a certain piece of text or copy it.
Since the keyboard is book-shaped, when closed it covers both sides of the iPad. Thus, it plays the role of not only a control element, but also a protective case that will protect the gadget from scratches and other damage. The user can set the keyboard in 2 positions. In one position it is more convenient to type, in the other - to watch movies.
In addition, using this control it is much more convenient to put the tablet into sleep mode and wake the gadget from it. It is enough to close the “book” and the device will “fall asleep”. Once you open the keyboard, you can start working right away.
As you can see, both accessories can become useful assistants in working with the iPad Pro 2018. The only negative is that they are not included in the standard package, so you will have to pay extra for this pleasure.

The developers equipped the new iPad Pro 2018 with an advanced 64-bit 8-core A12X Bionic chip with an M12 motion coprocessor. At the heart of the tablet is the Neural Engine technology, which performs 5 trillion. operations per second. This allowed the tablet to match the power of the latest Xbox. This hardware is enough to run games with full computer graphics.
As for physical memory, the user has 4 options to choose from: 64, 256, 512 GB and even 1 TB. The possibility of expansion, as usual, is not provided, so it is better not to skimp on this component.
Official statements from manufacturers are, of course, good. But what will synthetic tests show us? First, let's take a look at the results of performance testing in the SunSpider benchmark. Let us remind you that in this test the lowest result is the best. Here's what we got:

As you can see, the new iPad Pro is 20% more powerful than last year's Pro version. It easily outperformed advanced Android gadgets (the same Samsung Galaxy Tab S4). Flagship smartphones (Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Note 9) could not compete with the tablet in question. The only device that managed to come as close as possible to the performance of the iPad Pro 2018 was the iPhone XS Max.

In this benchmark, Apple's new product outperformed last year's tablet by as much as 98%. Nobody (not even the iPhone XS Max) could provide serious competition.

In general, in terms of hardware, the engineers really did a great job. There is literally nothing to complain about. However, such high performance is provided not only by the processor, but also by an optimized operating system.

Moreover, the load from a constant connection to mobile networks is not taken into account. Most likely, the Wi-Fi + Cellular versions will show even weaker results.
Thus, we are forced to state that autonomy is the main disadvantage of the new line of iPads. The creators equipped their creation with advanced hardware, introduced the widest range of functionality, but did not think about the time the user would need during operation. Of course, you can resort to tricks: turn off background programs, turn down the brightness, periodically turn off the network, and so on. But is this why we buy premium gadgets? To tinker with the settings and artificially prolong their life? Hardly. So here we give the new iPad essentially a single, but bold minus.
