What games can I play on a weak computer?

As always, we have two options:

  1. Build a collection of client MMOs running on the weakest PCs.
  2. Or collect toys in the browser.

We will try to combine these two approaches - we will put together the optimal set for an active player. We doubt that the projects of the year will be in the top of the best games, but they will definitely catch some fans.

Sandbox games

We are shown any cube games, for example, the father of the “” genre or new voxel shooters or even the fantasy “Cube World” surrounded by elves and magic.

The essence is the same:

  • Modest graphics
  • Destroyable environment
  • Huge buildings,
  • Dozens of mods,
  • A universe made up of cubes.

In return, you can build titanic structures, dig artificial seas, create hills, grow trees, gardens, dig down to magma boiling in the dungeons, and manually create thousands of gameplay options.

MOBA games

The good old “League of Legends” should, in theory, run without problems on old laptops, like a good dozen other MOBA toys, such as the fantastic action game “”.

Video: MOBA game Shards of War

The MOBA platform is ideal for far from top-end hardware - top view, line paths, fussing with creeps and under towers, adrenaline from confrontation and team actions, and not from pretentious graphics.

Yes, these products are a hundred years old, yes, they could become boring, but they have a stable online, a friendly gaming community, traditions that have developed over the years and an almost perfect, polished balance.

Client MMORPGs

“Metin2”, “Karos Online”, I would like to highlight the Korean anime game “”. The project is so old that it seems to remember the first gamers. But there is still stable online, a lot of events and events, and the game’s functionality can please even veterans.

Video: Ragnarok gameplay

Naturally, the picture was outdated in the last century, but playing a decent MMO on a weak PC is priceless.

A bunch of classes, balanced complex mechanics, wars for castles and the Imperium, several skills that produce damage almost three times more than the HP of most characters, weddings and adoption of children, politics and a bunch of professions.

Browser games

Of the good fantasy games, but in the browser, it is worth noting “” - the project looks very not sour, atmospheric and will give hundreds of hours of fun monotonous carnage in the “Diablo” style.

Gloomy beauty, thousands of crowded mobs, raid bosses and a fun character development system - what else is needed for a large-scale waste of time on an old PC?

In general, it’s worth paying attention to browser games quite closely - “Parograd” is in no way inferior to indie client MMOs, and shooters, such as “Tanks Online”, although they are already quite tired, are still performing their tasks perfectly.

Strategies, role-playing projects, racing, action, anime toys. The good old “ ” or “ ” - the main thing is to correctly place the emphasis and understand what you need. Adrenaline, time wasting, social interaction or role-playing?

The top of the best online games for a weak PC is not even ten percent complete - the famous “Contra”, early “Battlefield” or several CCGs that will easily go on your soapbox should also be present here. It’s hard to guess with tastes, and the concept of an outdated computer is different for everyone.

It often happens that the old configuration, for various reasons, does not want to run new toys normally. In any case, until you purchase a new PC, you have an option - old but popular projects. Today we will talk about the Top 50 games for weak PCs.

Hello, dear readers. The Gamebizclub team is in touch with you, and today we will tell you about the best games for weak PCs.

Every year, games place more and more demands on personal computers. To play comfortably, for example, GTA 5, For Honor or Mafia 3, you need a powerful computer with high performance, and not every person can afford to buy a computer for at least 30-50 thousand rubles.

If you have an old PC, new games are slow and lag, and you have no idea what to play - read and see our rating. We have prepared the top 12 games for medium and weak PCs, collected the most famous and popular projects from different years, evaluated them and wrote in detail about them.

During the process of compiling the rating, we argued a lot, broke two keyboards and a mouse - all because each person has their own preferences. One likes RPGs, another prefers shooters, a third prefers strategies, and so on. The result is what happened.

From this article you will learn:

12. Star Wars: Battlefront II

Twelfth place goes to Star Wars: Battlefront II. This is a tactical first- or third-person shooter about Star Wars, developed by LucasArts.

  • Year of release: 2006.
  • RAM: 512 MB.
  • Video card: GeForce 6600 or Radeon X800 – 128 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 5.5 GB.

The game's story spans two eras: the era of the Clone Wars, where the Galactic Republic fights against the Confederacy of Independent Systems (clones against droids), and the era of the Galactic Civil War, where the Empire fights against the Rebels.

You can choose any of the opposing sides, in any era, in single player mode and online. The single-player mode includes a campaign of seventeen missions and several modes:

  • Galaxy Conquest combines shooter and economic strategy.
  • Quick fight - you can enjoy the battle in any order on any maps
  • Challenges - consist of four mini-campaigns for each of the conflicting parties.

In multiplayer mode, you can fight on planetary and space maps, as well as create your own.

The player fights on maps as an ordinary soldier and uses weapons depending on the class. Upon reaching a certain number of points, the battle can be continued in the role of one of the heroes - Anakin Skywalker, Master Yoda, Darth Vader and others, depending on the chosen side. But if the hero dies, then it will no longer be possible to return him to the battlefield and you will have to continue the battle as an ordinary soldier. In battle you can use stationary turrets, jet bikes, tanks and walkers.

Battlefront 2 is one of the best Star Wars games. You will take part in the events that happened in the films of George Lucas, change the course of history, meet the main and minor characters and take part in several major battles on a planetary scale.

11. DOOM 3

In eleventh place we put DOOM 3, a first-person shooter developed by Activision. The third part is a remake of the previous parts, which received an interesting plot, a new engine and better graphics - this made Doom 3 the best shooter of several years.

  • Year of release: 2004.
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64.
  • RAM: 512 MB.
  • Video card: GeForce 6800 Ultra – from 64 to 256 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 2.2 GB.

At the beginning of the game, the main character flies to the Martian base to guard the laboratory and scientists who are conducting experiments. One unsuccessful attempt, and a portal to a hellish dimension opens at the base and the creatures inhabiting it invade Mars. Almost all the people on the base die, so the main character has to survive and clear the territory alone.

Unlike the previous parts, where there was no plot and a brutal bloody mess happened all the time, in DOOM 3 events develop according to the plot and not so quickly. The gloomy atmosphere, dark rooms, corridors turned it into a real horror. But as you move through the levels, there are more and more monsters, the plot develops more and more rapidly, and the game becomes similar to its predecessors.

DOOM 3's image quality was a breakthrough in the gaming industry at the time. The high level of texture detail and the successful combination of lighting and shadow completely transport the player into the atmosphere of a Martian base captured by aliens. Therefore, the horror that the game is at the beginning can make even experienced gamers tremble, and the meat grinder at the end will bring pleasure to all fans of the genre.

Continuation of the genre, good graphics with low system requirements, a successfully implemented gloomy atmosphere, even after 13 years, make DOOM 3 relevant.

10. Fallout 3

In tenth place we put Fallout 3, an action-RPG in the style of a post-apocalypse with a first or third person view, developed by Bethesda.

  • Year of release: 2008.
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD 64 X2 5200.
  • RAM: 2 GB.
  • Video card: NVIDIA 8800+ or ATI 3800+ – 512 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 1 GB.

The plot takes place at the end of the 23rd century. The world is just beginning to recover from nuclear war. The main character is born and lives in one of the underground shelters, but one day his father escapes outside. Life in a shelter looks like a gingerbread house, but in reality it is not entirely true. The main character faces the injustice of the head of the shelter, helps survive the invasion of many cockroaches, saves people - all this ends with him being the first after his father to leave shelter 101 and set off to look for his parent.

Fallout 3 can be considered an open world game - it is quite large, you can explore it for a very long time, meet different people and participate in the events of the Wasteland. At any moment you can put the storyline aside and go for a walk. Secondary tasks are no less exciting than the main ones, and all the characters tell their own exciting story and have well-written motivations. And although the previous two Fallout parts were created by completely different people, the developers from Bethesda managed to preserve the atmosphere of the game.

The isometric view and turn-based combat in Fallout 3 has been replaced by a first- or third-person view and a V.A.T.S. system that allows you to carefully aim during combat, making it accessible and easy to learn for most gamers.

Fallout 3 is like a box of gifts. In each location there are interesting tasks and tests - you can get on a spaceship and save the Earth from destruction, or defend the city from evil super mutants. The game is not boring, but interesting and exciting - that’s why it’s in tenth place.

9. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is firmly in ninth place - this action RPG, developed by Bethesda, has attracted millions of fans from different countries with the quality of its graphics, plot, detail and role-playing component.

  • Year of release: 2006.
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.0-3.0 GHz.
  • Video card: GeForce 6800 or Radeon X800 – from 64 to 256 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 4.6 GB.

The plot of Oblivion takes place in an alternate fantasy world. Many different races live in this world - people, Argonians, Khajiit, elves and other “peoples”. The main character ends up in prison and meets the Emperor of Tamriel, who is fleeing from the assassins of Oblivion. After some time, the emperor is still killed, but he manages to give the main character the Amulet of Kings. As a result, the main character must defeat the Oblivion cultists and save the world from invasion.

Detailed development of main and side quests is a hallmark of all Bethesda games, and Oblivion is no exception. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a story mission or a small quest in a distant corner of the mainland - each has an exciting story and plot.

Character creation deserves special mention. A large number of races and classes: 21 predefined classes, 7 for each specialization: warrior, thief, mage; plus custom classes and 13 constellations. We have only briefly listed this - choosing a class is not so easy. The character has basic and additional parameters, as well as many skills and abilities, the development of which occurs in different ways - this allows you to create a unique hero according to your preferences. With such diversity, it is difficult to create two identical characters.

Oblivion is one of the first games that shaped the RPG genre. Exciting adventures, interesting plot stories, beautiful images and dynamic battles - everything is very pleasing and makes you start the game again and again.

8.Left 4 Dead 2

We give eighth place to Left 4 Dead 2, a first-person shooter about a zombie apocalypse published by Valve. The first part of Left 4 Dead immediately became a hit, and the second far surpassed it in graphics, design and plot.

  • Year of release: 2009.
  • Processor: any with a frequency of 2.4 GHz.
  • RAM: 1 GB.
  • Video card: NVidia GeForce 6600 or ATi Radeon X9600 – 128 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 7.5 GB.

The plot is standard - an unknown virus has raged in the United States, turning people into zombies. The virus spread to several states in a matter of days. This forced the government to evacuate survivors from the infected areas and place them in quarantine. The heroes are four survivors who did not have time to evacuate. Now they have to fight their way to a normal life through hordes of zombies.

Compared to the first part, heroes, missions, cars, weapons - everything is at a higher level. The heroes are a car mechanic, a football coach, a swindler and a journalist, that is, ordinary people who found the strength and courage to organize people and survive. In single-player mode, over the course of five campaigns, they will methodically advance towards New Orleans, use bladed weapons and firearms, drive cars and destroy all the undead along the way.

But Left 4 Dead 2 was clearly designed with an emphasis on online play, with modes available: co-op, versus the infected, survival, realism and collection. The first three modes were present in the first part, but realism and collection appeared only in the second. Realism mode is co-op on hardcore difficulty, and collection is a mix of survival modes and battles between survivors and the infected.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a game with good graphics and low system requirements that you can play with friends and have a blast.

7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Seventh place goes to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2, a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward. We can say that this is the first shooter about modern war, which uses modern technologies and equipment.

  • Year of release: 2009.
  • Processor: AMD 64 3.2+ or Pentium 4 3.0+.
  • RAM: 512-1024 MB.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or ATI Radeon 1600XT – 256 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 16 GB.

The plot is about fictional military actions in the near future (given the date of its release - the present). It is divided into several missions, where the hero finds himself in the role of a fighter and must complete a certain task - destroy the enemy, blow up something, get to a key point, and so on.

And although the game does not provide any freedom of action, you will actually have to fight - with numerous enemy soldiers and equipment. Negotiations on the radio against the backdrop of hostilities and the lively changing surroundings will bring several dozen hours of selective pleasure to numerous fans of the genre. The game requires only accuracy and manual dexterity from the gamer. A large selection of weapons, rich story videos and diagrams explaining tactics on the loading screen are included.

The graphics are a bit like a movie - special effects, breathtaking scenes of helicopter crashes, large-scale combat actions make you think that all this is like a war in reality. At least in 2009, it was very similar, which allowed Modern Warfare 2 to become the shooter of the year for average PCs, which by today's standards are already weak.

6. Diablo II

In sixth place is Diablo II, the legendary old-school RPG with an isometric view developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It is suitable for weak laptops and computers - it will work on almost the oldest device. But, if you blow off the dust and don’t look at the release date, an amazing world will open up, which gave rise to the horror RPG genre.

  • Year of release: 2000.
  • Processor: Pentium 233.
  • RAM: 256 MB.

The alternate world of the game is called Sancutarium. It unfolds a continuous confrontation between the forces of heaven and hell, in which the hero plays a key role. He (she) must defeat Diablo, the main representative of the underworld, having first passed his minions. You will have to do this in the role of one of six characters - Amazon, necromancer, barbarian, paladin, sorceress, assassin and druid.

The game consists of five acts, each of which is filled with exciting adventures and tasks. Diablo 2 is literally crammed with all sorts of monsters that you need to destroy in batches or run away from them with all your might. And at high difficulty levels, you will have to select a certain type of damage for most of them, which eliminates boring grinding.

In addition to the single-player mode, there is multiplayer in the form of cooperative play, but the main emphasis is on single-player play. In online mode, the difficulty increases depending on how many people are in the game. The graphics are average, with a third-person view, but this also allows you to monitor the situation around the hero and react to the appearance of monsters. Let's add that Diablo 3, released in 2012, also has a third-person view, but the graphics are much better.

The main thing in Diablo 2 is constant hardcore, which doesn't let up much when you find yourself in a safe area. But as soon as you leave the city, crowds of monsters appear around you, and again you need to fight, run, arrange “locomotives” and restore mana and HP. Simply put, there is no time to be bored.

5. Battlefield 2

In fifth place is Battlefield 2, a tactical first-person shooter developed by Electronic Arts.

  • Year of release: 2005.
  • Processor: any with a frequency of 1.7-2.4 GHz.
  • RAM: 512 MB.
  • Video card: any with 128-256 MB video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 2 GB.

To describe the game in a nutshell, it’s a battlefield. A real battle involving: the US Marines, the People's Liberation Army of China and the Middle East Coalition. Battles take place on maps that, depending on size, support up to 64 players in multiplayer mode and 15 bots during single-player mode.

The player's weapons on the battlefield depend on the chosen class. There are seven such classes in Battlefield 2:

  1. Special forces soldier - makes forays behind enemy lines.
  2. Sniper – knocks out enemies from a long distance.
  3. Stormtrooper - works at short range.
  4. Support – covers everyone and suppresses enemies with machine gun fire.
  5. Technician - repairs equipment, sets mines.
  6. Medic – heals and restores fallen allies.
  7. Grenade launcher – destroys enemy equipment.

Each class has its own equipment. As your rank increases, you can unlock additional weapon modules. The class can be selected before the start of the battle, and changed before rebirth - after the previous character is killed. If you pick up the equipment of a killed enemy, the class will also change.

The main feature of BF2 is technology. You can use everything that is on the battlefield - get into a tank and shoot everyone from a cannon, climb into a helicopter or plane and launch air strikes, climb into a jeep and quickly drive to the enemy base to set up an ambush there. Perhaps this is the first game in which the ability to interact with equipment on the battlefield was so well implemented.

When you upgrade your PC, try Battlefield 1. Despite the number in the title, it was released in 2017. Read, install BF1 and take part in the events of the First World War - we guarantee you will like it.

4. Half-Life 2

The wooden medal goes to the epic Half-Life 2, a sci-fi first-person shooter developed by Valve. After the release of this game, Valve began to develop rapidly and developed Steam - HL2 was recognized as the game of the decade, millions of people from different countries love it and are waiting for the release of the third part. For a long time we couldn’t decide where to place the game, but we still awarded it an honorable fourth place.

  • Year of release: 2004.
  • Processor: Pentium 2.0 1200 GHz.
  • RAM: 256 MB.
  • Video card: 64 MB video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 4 GB.

The plot of Half-Life 2 continues the first part, its actions take place 10-15 years later. The same former nuclear physicist Morgan Freeman goes to City 17. There he will have to fight against the totalitarian government of Wallace Brin and alien invaders.

The main feature of the game is its Source engine, which produced impeccable graphics, animation and physics that were impeccable for those times and quite good for today. But that's not the main thing. Half-Life 2 has a cool story and gameplay, which makes the game the best.

The main character does not say a word throughout the entire game. This gives the feeling that the character knows more about the story than the player. In addition, Morgan's silence is more than compensated for by a bunch of interesting dialogues and lines from other characters he meets in missions.

During the passage you will have to move on foot, fight off alien monsters with an ordinary crowbar, solve puzzles and try different paths - it’s difficult, interesting and will not let you tear yourself away from Half-Life 2 for many hours. Each level is different from the previous one, so you need to use your head and think about every step to successfully complete the mission.

Story, gameplay and graphics are the basis of HL2's success. Rumors about the development of the third part have been circulating for several years, but the guys from Valve are silent as partisans. And apparently, we won’t see Half-Life 3 soon, if at all.

3. Heroes of Might and Magic III

An honorable third place goes to Heroes of Might and Magic III, a turn-based strategy with RPG elements published by New World Computing. This game is the most popular turn-based strategy game with weak requirements. The game was developed by New World Computing and released on February 28, 1999 by The 3DO Company.

  • Year of release: 1999.
  • Processor: any with a frequency above 133 GHz.
  • RAM: 32 MB.
  • Video card: 64 MB video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 200 MB.

Events take place in the captured state of Erathia. Queen Katerina must restore the former power of the Motherland and defeat everyone.

The gameplay of HoMM3 consists of strategic, tactical and RPG parts. Strategic - construction and capture of cities, control over resources, movement of troops. The tactical part is the battles. They take place in a separate window, divided into cells, along which troops of the armies of the fighting sides walk. The RPG part consists of upgrading the hero and his skills, searching for artifacts.

You can play either alone, going through individual scenarios or campaigns, or in multiplayer mode. The multiplayer game, among other things, supports Hotseat mode, in which several gamers can play HoMM3 while on the same computer.

Heroes in the game are divided into three classes: warrior, mage and battle mage. Primary skills are determined by classes. Secondary skills such as magic, diplomacy, logistics are learned during the game and provide the opportunity to learn skills.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is one of the most popular turn-based strategy games of all time. You can play it for hours and days without getting bored. The following parts and numerous “similar” games could not replicate the unique world, and it is unlikely that this will happen. Therefore, we award a well-deserved third place.

2.Warcraft III

In second place is Warcraft III, a real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment.

  • Year of release: 2002.
  • Processor: 400 MHz to 1 GHz.
  • RAM: from 128 MB to 2 GB.
  • Video card: any compatible DirectX video card that supports 800 x 600 resolution.
  • Free hard disk space: 1.3 GB.

The action takes place in the alternative world of Azeroth, which is being invaded by demons led by Archimonde. People, orcs, night elves and even the undead will have to join forces to prevent the end of the world.

Warcraft III has a rather lengthy plot by strategy standards, which allows you not only to learn the basics of playing for all available races, but also to fully enjoy the gameplay, learn the history of the World of Warcraft and get to know the key characters.

A distinctive feature of the game is the ability to build unique units - heroes who are distinguished by incredible strength, skills, and gain experience in battles - this introduces an RPG element.

The greatest potential of Warcraft is hidden in online battles - the developers and community of players have created a lot of third-party maps to play through and find out “who is better.” Even the legendary Dota 2 was born in the form of a Warcraft 3 map, and only a few years later it was made a separate game.

But online play, a long storyline and an RPG component are not the main thing in Warcraft 3. And the main thing is that the game became the basis for all projects in the RPG genre that were released several years later. This means that the developers were able to recognize the preferences of the players and made a product that everyone liked without exception. Warcraft 3 is a must have for any person who cares about computer games.

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Fanfare sounds and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, an action-adventure game released by Rockstar Games, comes first.

  • Year of release: 2005.
  • Processor: any with a frequency of 1.5 GHz.
  • RAM: 256 MB.
  • Video card: from 32 MB of video memory.
  • Free hard disk space: 5 GB.

The GTA series is about real life, where the main character finds himself in situations that could happen in the present. And this approach has not changed since the first part. Bandits, guns, money, cards, expensive cars, theft, problems with the police - in GTA this is shown in the most realistic way from the point of view of an ordinary person.

In the story, African-American CJ comes to his hometown of Los Santos for his mother's funeral. It's 1992 and the gang wars are in full swing. The main character is slowly drawn into the activities of one of them. At first, the tasks are petty, but as the plot develops, C.J. gets involved in more and more major troubles.

But completing story (and indeed any) missions is far from necessary. You can simply enjoy all sorts of shenanigans in an open world consisting of three full-fledged cities and vast suburban areas. These cities have everything you need to have a fun time. That is why some gamers who spent dozens of hours in San Andreas admitted that they did not complete a single mission there.

GTA is about ordinary people who always have a choice - to become a criminal or remain a normal person. And although the game constantly pushes you to commit crimes (because that’s its point), you can not complete tasks and remain within the law. Although, now fans of the series will understand us, it’s cool to drive a tank onto the main street and have hardcore with the police, special forces and the army. For this atmosphere, which has not disappeared for more than 15 years, GTA is at the top of our top.

Let's sum it up

There are many more outstanding games that could be added to the list. For example, Red Alert and Command & Conquer, StarCraft, Counter-Strike - the list could take a very long time. It is not for nothing that we write that during the discussion we argued a lot, because each person has his own preferences and tastes. You can also write to us in the comments about your favorite game that does not require a powerful computer - readers' opinions are always interesting.

That's all for today. We wish everyone success. Bye bye.
