Firmware for tablet Explay Informer 701. Explay: for those who are used to saving. Detailed video review of the tablet

We continue to review tablet computers available for purchase from the Russian brand Explay. Today we are reviewing the explay informer 701 tablet.

Appearance of the device

Brief technical specifications

The popularity of this model, like other devices from explay, is of course added to by its affordable price, despite the fact that the functionality is quite solid. The heart of the device is the Allwinner Boxchip A10 microprocessor with a clock frequency of 1000 MHz. Since the Exploy Informer 701 tablet belongs to the inexpensive category, it has 512 M of RAM and 4 gigabytes for user data. But this does not prevent you from adding another 32 GB using a micro SD card. At the same time, the weight is 340g, and the size is 187x144x12 mm. The battery capacity of 3000 mAh is enough for 4-5 hours of surfing with the built-in Wi-Fi module turned on. A special feature of the 701st model is the presence of an acceleration sensor, in addition to the traditional rotation sensor.

As with all mid-range and entry-level devices, the display resolution is 800 x 480 pixels. Despite this, the explay 701 tablet can play high-quality Full HD video on an external display - be it a TV, monitor or projector. The main thing is the presence of an HDMI input, which will allow you to connect the device with a standard mini HDMI to HDMI cable. The built-in graphics accelerator and the Android 4.0 operating system are quite enough for most popular games, for example the same Bad Piggies.

External elements and control buttons

In general, the device is similar to its “brothers” from the Explay line. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front for video conferencing. There are power connectors, headphone output, USB and a memory card connector. The Menu, Home and Back buttons are traditional for any Android, and of course the two-button “Volume” and the power button. There is also a hardware reset button hidden from accidental pressing. The back cover is plastic and slippery, and there are holes for the built-in speaker on it. There is no camera on the back, but the manufacturers did not set out to replace everything with this device.

Equipment and delivery

The box, designed quite well, includes a case, headphones, a 220 V power supply and a data cable along with the Informer tablet.

Tablet PC equipment

The device is charged only from an external source, like most of its class. USB charging is not provided in hardware.

Communication capabilities

First of all, the informer 701 tablet is designed for web surfing, which is not possible without a network connection.

The Wi-Fi setup is typical and no different from other Android 4 devices, so let’s look at network setup using the example of a typical router:

  • Let's connect the router's power supply and the external network cable to the INTERNET (WAN) connector.
  • Let's connect using the tablet to the network that appears, access will be unprotected and in this case this is normal.

Setting up a wi-fi connection in the 701st Explay model

  • In the browser, enter the address 192.168.1.1 or another default one provided by the router manufacturer (usually written on it).
  • We set up a WAN connection in the appropriate section of the router - in most cases this happens automatically, in others you will need to select a static address, perhaps a PPPOE connection or change the MAC address of the router.
  • Enable encryption in the wireless network section, select the network name.
  • Reconnect to the new network, save the settings and reboot the router.

If you have a 3G modem, you can connect it with a cable to the USB connector of the device directly or through a special adapter. Informer 701, like other Android tablets, supports most models of external modems. Turn on the modem power and data transfer in the menu; you may have to enter additional provider data (for example, login, password or APN).

Tablet firmware

This is a very responsible procedure, it should be done only as a last resort, if the Exploy 701 tablet does not load or you are confident in your knowledge and have the relevant experience. To do this, you need to install Live Suit on a Windows computer, download the firmware image and be patient. The tablet must be turned off all this time, then launch the Live Suit program from the computer.

Selecting an image in the Live Suit program

On the left in the program window, by clicking on SelectImg you need to select the firmware image and click open. The firmware process starts.

The most important thing in this process is to ensure reliable connection and power supply for the duration of the procedure, since a sudden interruption of the firmware can lead to the device turning into a “brick”.

Start of the firmware procedure

Now on the explay 701 itself you need to press sound + and connect it to the computer via a USB cable (before this, the device must remain turned off). Press the power button several times and release the sound +, a window should appear asking you to format the data and start the flashing process, confirm this by double-clicking “YES”. It is best to reboot the device after successful flashing.

Possible problems

  1. If the buttons disappear after turning off notifications, you just need to launch any application and then exit it. Everything will return to its place.
  2. If the program, most likely a game one, does not fit on the screen, look for a version with a resolution of 800x480.
  3. If your interlocutor sees bars on Skype instead of you, update or reinstall the application from the market.
  4. If the internal memory is lost, there is only one reason - updating BusyBox, which can only be treated by flashing it.

Important notes!

  • Do not let the tablet discharge below 10%, after which there is a high probability that it will not start at all;

  • If you have firmware version 1.03, update it immediately. Otherwise, you may not be able to access the recovery menu and the battery charge may not be displayed correctly;

  • For normal operation of Lucky Patcher, use SuperSU, and do not use a superuser;

  • Do not update busybox in any way!
