Proper use of a proxy server. Setting up a connection through a proxy server

A proxy server provides an opportunity for unhindered and secure access to content, especially in cases where the provider has blocked access to it. A proxy server is also considered as a gateway, ensuring the flow of information data simultaneously in both directions: from the user to the network resource.

Those who engage in active surfing seek to find recommendations on how to use a proxy server, as this allows the requested Internet pages to load faster and also guarantees the user absolute anonymity. It is not for nothing that when translated from English, the word “proxy” means use on someone else’s behalf.

However, most users still do not understand why a proxy server is needed or what the benefits of using it are. Each PC accessing the Global Network is accompanied by . Knowing it, it is enough to simply calculate where exactly the user lives, which specific provider provides him with Internet services. If it is important to hide personal data, all requests should be made through a proxy acting as an intermediary. In this case, the IP address of the proxy used is not displayed.

Purpose of a proxy

A proxy server is capable of performing several useful functions that attract the attention of users. In addition to providing complete anonymity, the proxy successfully caches Internet pages, which in the future allows you to speed up the process of opening them, while at the same time ensuring economical use of Internet traffic.

Another successful function of a proxy is the real opportunity to protect the user’s personal computer from possible network attacks. Some enterprises interested in working securely with Internet resources prefer to use proxies, as this guarantees the protection of important data from hacking by intruders.

Also, some people prefer to use it due to the fact that it allows successful anonymous surfing.

Manually setting up a proxy server

To take advantage of the unique features of a proxy, you need to understand how to configure a proxy server. Everyone can use its capabilities only after they manage to find a suitable option, check its functionality, and then provide quick access to it.

The proxy server is configured in two modes: manual and automatic. The manual method is not so welcomed by users, since they have to search on their own, then check the selected options for functionality, and after successfully passing the test, they also have to make changes to the browser themselves.

To make the appropriate changes in the Mozilla Firefox browser, you need to go from the “Settings” menu to the “Settings” item, and then to the “Advanced” tab. Next, among the list of additional options, you should select the “Network” line, click on it and in the window that opens, check the box next to the “Manual proxy service setup” line. All that remains is to enter the data, after which contact with the proxy will be established.

Setting up the Opera browser is almost identical: from the “Settings” menu, go to “General Settings”, then “Network”, and then “Proxies”.

The Internet Explorer browser is also quite easy to configure after clicking on the following menu items: “Tools”, “Internet Options”, “Connections”, “Network Settings”. To enter data, just check the box next to the “Use proxy server” line.

In the Chrome browser, it's also easy to change the proxy settings. You need to click on the “Tools” item, go to the “Show advanced settings” tab, and then select the “Change proxy server settings” item.

Automatic setup

Setting up in automatic mode involves the use of software tools that facilitate the ability to quickly find and automatically select the optimal proxy.

Currently, developers offer a sufficient number of useful software tools that allow not only an automatic search for suitable resources, but also an automatic check of their functionality, followed by instant integration into the appropriate browser.

Such software tools include:

  • Mask Surf;
  • Proxy Switcher Pro;
  • Proxyassistant;
  • Hide IP Easy.

If the question arises of how to change the proxy server, the user will be able to figure out this issue without difficulty. In most cases, the interfaces of these software tools are Russified and are also quite understandable to every user, so it will not be difficult to change IP addresses with simple clicks.

Disabling a proxy server

In some cases, it becomes necessary, on the contrary, to eliminate existing contact with the proxy server; therefore, it is useful to understand how to disable the proxy server if it acts as an obstacle to achieving specific goals.

Disablement rules

Unfortunately, some free proxies are subject to blocking, due to which it is not possible to open pages important to the user. In this regard, it becomes necessary to disable proxy functions in order to change the IP address, thereby ensuring access to selected resources.

To disable the proxy, you need to go into the browser settings in the same way as when connecting it, after which you should uncheck the box next to the line indicating the activation of this function.

After such actions have been taken, you can again use the original network settings, open the necessary Internet pages, but all transitions will be under the supervision of the provider.

So, anyone who urgently needs it can change network settings. It is enough to select an acceptable option for searching and checking the functionality of the proxy server, and then test all its capabilities in practice.

Instructions

Proxy servers are used to hide the real IP address and remain undetected on the network. The Mozilla Firefox browser will tell you how to find out. Download it from the developer's website and install it on your site. Open your browser. Go to menu items such as Tools – Settings – Advanced and click the “network” tab. And opposite the inscription “Configure Firefox’s Internet connection settings,” click “Configure.” Next you will see a number of menu options. If the “No proxy” checkbox is activated, then at the moment you are not using a proxy server when connecting to the Internet. If the “Manual proxy settings” tab is activated, then all the numbers and letters written below describe your proxy server.

If you are a member of a corporate network, then to find out the proxy settings, sequentially open the following menu items in the control panel: network environment - display network connections - local network connection - properties - Internet protocol TPC\IP - properties. For ordinary users, the “Obtain an IP address automatically” checkbox is activated. Typically, there will be numbers like 192.168.0. or some others. So, if there is an address like 10.0.0.40, then this designation will be the very proxy server that your company uses for its clients.

If you find it difficult to answer the question about your proxy port, contact the system administrator who maintains your network. Thanks to his knowledge and experience, he will cope with the task in the shortest possible time. There are many sites on the Internet that provide constantly updated lists of working proxy servers. So, if you want to be anonymous online, today this is not much of a problem.

  • how to determine a proxy

Proxy servers are most often used to hide certain personal data from those to whom it may be available. There are special websites to view the anonymity parameters of such resources.

You will need

  • - Internet access.

Instructions

In order to use the function of viewing sites under a proxy server, use the simplest method - an anonymizer site. To do this, first enable the corresponding function in your browser, if this has not been done previously.

Just use an Internet search for such sites and open one of your favorites. This method has many advantages - no installation of additional software is required, no need to perform lengthy operations to collect and sift out information about proxy servers, and so on. The downside here is the limited functionality.

Use special programs to access the network under a proxy server address. Such programs usually search for available resources, then select the best options among the available ones, after which they filter the results and select one of them. This procedure may take several hours, but in this case you have many more options, unlike the quick method.

If you want to view the name of the proxy server under which you access the Internet, open the “Connection” menu on your computer in the properties of the browser you are using, and then view the information in the “LAN Settings” item.

If you want to check the reliability of the proxy server you are using, use special sites for this, for example, on the resource http://privacy.net/analyze-your-internet-connection/, after analyzing your data, the site will give you the information it has about you and your computer, which may be accessible to other people on the network.

You can also use similar services, for example, http://www.stilllistener.addr.com/checkpoint1/index.shtml. If you find your real address in their menu, then the proxy you have chosen is unreliable.

Helpful advice

Do not do anything illegal under a proxy on the Internet; one way or another, it will be possible to find out your real address even with complete anonymity.

To perform some Internet-related tasks, a personal computer user may need to install his own proxy servers , which can help solve numerous problems. For example, you need to speed up your browser or hide your computer on the network.

Instructions

First you need the server itself. How, we will install squid, which must first be downloaded from the Internet. This can be done on the official website www.squid-cache.org/. After you have downloaded the squid.rar archive, unpack it into the c:squid folder. Of course, you can install it in , but then you will have to adjust the .bat files. Next, install squid as a system service and create a cache by running the install_step1.bat and install_step2.bat files.

Now on your squid25, you can check its functionality by going to “My Computer”. Next, click the “Management” tab, and then “Services”. Find a file there called squid25. After checking, you need to register the settings by entering the address 127.0.0.1 and port 3128. The path to these settings is different in each, but finding this place is not difficult at all.

Almost all servers are the same. It is also worth noting that you can change the settings at any time, for example, by replacing it with a different proxy server. This is done in almost the same way as installing from scratch. Further, we can assume that the installation process proxy servers on your computer has come to an end.

Of course, there are a sufficient number of other options for getting out of this situation, but this one is the most convenient and accessible for the average personal computer user. Remember that the above service does not provide a solution to all possible problems, but only slightly speeds up your work on the Internet. In this regard, look for a proxy server that is suitable for your needs. As you can see, it is possible to install this function on a computer; the main thing is to configure all system parameters one by one.

Despite the fact that each person is a unique and individual personality, psychologists identify several main types character, which may manifest themselves more or less in different people. Knowing your type character, you can use its features for your own benefit, create a lifestyle and type of activity that suits you.

Instructions

To determine the type character Take a simple test to determine whether the right or left side of your body controls you in a number of situations. Gather your fingers together and pay attention to whether your left or right thumb is on top. If the left thumb is on top, then you are inclined to, and if the right one means you have an analytical mind.

Take the pencil in your outstretched hand and point it at any point in space. Then close your eyes one by one and determine which eye is the dominant one, and when you close your eyes, the target begins to shift. If, when you close your left eye, the target moves, you have a soft character, and if you close your right eye, you have a firm and persistent character.

Also try crossing your arms across your chest. If your left hand is on top more often than your right, you are prone to cunning, and if your right hand is more likely to be ingenuous. Then clap your hands, placing your hands crosswise. Determine which hand is more comfortable for you to clap. If you are left, it is not easy for you to make decisions, and if you are right, you are a persistent and decisive person. Different combinations of results in this simple test allow you to determine the main features of your character.

In addition, individual accentuations of personality or characteristics are highlighted character strongly expressed in a particular person. Demonstrative type character characterized by a desire to stand out, artistry, and a desire to attract attention. These people are prone to constantly changing their field of activity; they are not able to concentrate on anything for a long time.

Pedantic type character characterized by too much thought before making a decision. Such people are prone to increased scrupulousness and seriousness. Excitable type character controlled not by feelings, but by feelings and desires. Excitable people are very impulsive and abrupt, and also prone to conflict. Anxious people character prone to self-doubt, fear and are characterized by unnatural behavior and self-criticism.

There is also a hyperthymic type character– people who have it are characterized by increased optimism and enthusiasm, they experience a constant thirst for activity, often enjoy authority and are successful. The opposite of the hyperthymic type is the dysthymic type. These people are prone to pessimism, they are gloomy and not emotional.

Not always these types character are embodied in their pure form in one person, but you can examine the characteristics of your behavior and correlate it with the types described in order to determine which ones are often found in your own character.

Each computer operating on the network is assigned an IP address. It is a unique network identifier; there cannot be two computers with the same address on the network at the same time. Moreover, addresses can be static and dynamic. Sometimes the user needs to know type the IP address it uses.

Instructions

What is the difference between a static IP address and a dynamic one? The fact that the first one never changes, while the second one changes with each new connection. The type of IP address is determined by your provider and largely depends on the connection method you use. For wired Internet, it is most often (but not always) static - that is, it is assigned once and does not change, even if you turn off the computer.

If you are using a USB modem, the IP address is dynamic. When connecting, you are allocated a free address from the range owned by the provider, and information about who was assigned this IP address and at what time is recorded in the logs of the server through which the connection is made. When using a USB modem, it is possible, for a fee, to obtain a permanent address.

To determine your type of IP address, go to one of the services that provide similar services, for example, to the website http://www.ip-1.ru/ At the top of the page you will see your current network address. Record it, then disconnect

It often happens that you have 2 or more computers at home or at work, one of which has access to the global web. Knowing how to set up a proxy server on Windows 7, we can connect and configure the network so that a computer directly connected to the Internet will distribute network access to other users. The easiest way to implement this idea is on the basis of a proxy server.

In computer technology, a proxy server usually means a certain service or program that allows client computers to make requests to the Internet not directly, but indirectly.

The algorithm for such interaction is simple and ingenious: first of all, the client computer sends a request not directly to the Internet, but to a proxy server, which first of all seeks to check whether such information is in the cache, and only then downloads data from the Internet.

Therefore, using a proxy server, you can not only distribute the Internet to a number of client workstations, but also ensure anonymity, save traffic, and also protect client computers from external access. So, let's look at setting up Internet access on a client machine where the Windows7 operating system was preinstalled.

The first thing you need to do is go to the “Control Panel”. To do this, click on the “Start” button and select “Control Panel” from the pop-up list. Then select the “Large icons” sub-item in viewing mode to transform the display of control panel icon parameters into the familiar classic view. Next, find the “Browser Options” sub-item and click on this icon.

Next, a settings window will open in front of us, where we need to click on the “Connections” tab. On this window we need to select “Network Settings”. All that remains is to check the “Proxy server” box and enter the address and port of your proxy server.

Of course, in addition to the option of setting up a proxy server for a local network, which we discussed above, there is also a proxy server setting that is provided for a modem connection.

To set this up, we need to know the name of the connection through which we access the Internet. This may be the name of the USB modem operator.

For this setup, we do not need to click “Network Settings”, but simply need to select the modem connection with one click of the mouse, and then click on the “Settings” button. In the next window, we will also be required to enter the proxy server address, as well as the port.

So, you set out to hide your IP address. You are faced with a choice: use the Proxy server “manually”, i.e. set up a proxy in your browser, or use special Proxy programs that will independently find a working proxy server and automatically integrate it into your browser.
In the first case, there are many details and nuances that complicate the work, such as: searching for proxy lists and checking their functionality, because many proxies are “dead” (not working), and so is the integration of proxies into your browser.
The second method, using a program, is much more accessible for a beginner, which is natural. But there are also a number of disadvantages - some programs are paid and, as a rule, not in Russian. Not all, but most.
In this article, MirSovetov will analyze both methods, clearly and with specific examples. Let's get started.

The first method, working with a proxy “manually”

Manual proxy installation consists of three steps:
* Search for proxy lists (search for sites with a list of proxy servers)
* Integrating them into the browser (setting up a proxy in your browser)
* Testing for functionality (since many proxies are not working, they need to be checked using special sites)

First of all, we will need proxy lists (as already noted, these are lists of proxy servers that are publicly available on the Internet).
Not by tricky manipulations in the search engine, for the queries:
"Proxy list"
"free proxy lists"
"free proxy"

I chose the first one I came across, namely: h*tp://proxyfree.ru/
When you enter the site, in the left window you are immediately offered a choice of proxy server.

Click on the button "Check proxy"- this function will help to filter out "dead" proxy servers (which are currently not working), of course, this does not guarantee 100% working capacity of the proxy; you will still have to check it manually later.
After checking the proxy servers, the site generates a table showing the results of the check.

Let's look at the lines, in our example the first three are perfect, the fourth and fifth proxies do not hide our name and IP, so we discard them right away. So, checking the entire table, we select from there the ones that are most suitable for us, i.e. working proxies. Those. We save (at least in a notepad) the contents of the first column, in our example this is:
127.0.0.1:8080,
130.136.254.22:3128
130.136.254.22:3127.

All! We have in our pocket the options of proxy servers that we will use. The only thing left is to install them in our browser. Because setting up a proxy server in different browsers has differences, MirSovetov will give examples in the three most popular: Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox and Opera.

Setting up a proxy server in Internet Explorer

We take the first proxy 127.0.0.1:8080.

1. Open Internet Explorer and go through the top “Tools” panel to the “Internet Options” tab.

2. Go to the “Connections” tab, select your connection (in my case it is “internet”) and click the “Settings” button.

3. In the window that opens, check the box next to “Use a proxy server for this connection.” After clicking, the following fields will become active: “Address” and “Port”. We take our proxy - 127.0.0.1:8080 and, accordingly, insert 127.0.0.1 into the “Address” field, and 8080 into the “Port” field.

So, click “Ok” twice and... that’s it. You have configured a proxy in your browser. It remains to check the functionality, but we’ll talk about this after analyzing the proxy settings in Mozilla FireFox and Opera; if you use Internet Explorer, you can safely scroll below.

Setting up a proxy server in Mozilla FireFox

Let's look at the example of the same proxy 127.0.0.1:8080.

1.Open Mozilla FireFox and go through the top “Tools” panel to the “Settings...” tab.

2.Go to the “Network” tab and click the “Configure…” button.

3. In the “Connection Settings” window that opens, check the box next to “Manual configuration of the Proxy service”. After clicking, the following fields will become active: “HTTP proxy” and “Port”. We take our proxy - 127.0.0.1:8080 and insert 127.0.0.1 into the “HTTP proxy” field, and 8080 into the “Port” field.

There is no need to change anything else. The column “Do not use proxies for:” is also left unchanged, i.e. As you have it by default, it remains so.

All that remains is to click “Ok” - and the proxy will be configured.

Setting up a proxy server in Opera

And again the proxy is 127.0.0.1:8080.

1.Open Opera and go through the top panel “Tools” to the “Settings...” tab.

2.Go to the “Advanced” tab. In the menu that appears on the left, select the “Network” section, and in it click on the “Proxy servers...” button.

3. In the “Proxy Servers” window that opens, check the box next to “HTTP”. After clicking, the following fields will become active: “HTTP” and “Port”. Again, fill in 127.0.0.1 and 8080 in the appropriate fields.

So, click “Ok” twice and... that’s it. You have configured a proxy in your browser. It remains to check its performance.

Checking the functionality of the proxy server

After setting up a proxy in any of the browsers, remembering to save the change, go to the site for checking the IP address and location. For example, on h*tp://2ip.ru/geoip/.
Now it's simple:

*if the page does not load, it means the proxy is “dead” (not working), in this case, according to the scheme already passed, we set up the next proxy from the proxy list, etc.;

* if the page displays your city on the map, then you did something wrong or the proxy is not working;
* if the page displays not your city, but some other city, congratulations - you have “manually” configured a proxy! You can safely start using it.

Programs for working through a proxy server

We will analyze the three most popular programs for anonymous surfing on the Internet:
Mask Surf,
ProxySwitcherStandard
Proxyassistant.

Their use greatly simplifies the search for proxy lists, checking and integrating proxies into the browser.

Mask Surf

Mask Surf is, according to MirSovetov, the most convenient and easy-to-use program. Quite effective in terms of protecting your privacy, it quickly hides your real IP address. It also erases all traces of being on the Internet left by the browser during operation. And, of course, the most important advantages are ease of use and the interface is in Russian.
When launched, the program automatically minimizes to tray.

If you use the Internet Explorer browser, then you will be pleasantly surprised that the program is already configured to work with this browser by default. That is, in principle, when you start the program, Internet Explorer already starts working through a proxy, hiding your real IP address.
Let's take a closer look at Mask Surf.

1. As already mentioned above, the program minimizes to tray when launched, and when you right-click, a simple menu is displayed.

2.First, visit “Options”.

In the window that opens, in the “Language” column, select Russian.
3. After this, the program will automatically close, you should run it again, now it will be completely in Russian.

Everything is clear with the lower menu items - “Exit”, “About the program”, “Register”, etc.

* Stop anonymous surfing - automatically disables the proxy server and you work from your IP.
* Change false IP - if you are somehow not satisfied with the false IP being used, then when you click it, it is simply replaced with another one. You can click as much as you like, changing proxy servers, and with them the cities and countries that will be in the information about your IP.
* Anonymity check - clicking redirects to a site that checks your IP. If Mask Surf is active, then a foreign IP and a foreign country in which the proxy server is located will be displayed.
* Settings - in the settings you can integrate Mask Surf into the Mozzila FireFox browser, as well as configure some of the subtleties of the program.
* Remove Internet traces - this function should be used after working with the program. It will remove all traces of your Internet presence from your computer.

ProxySwitcherStandard

Quite a convenient and intuitive program for working with proxies. A huge selection of proxy servers, very diverse, which is very pleasing. It has a drawback - the interface, alas, is in English.

1. When you start the program, a window opens, the menu on the left contains sections for sorting proxy servers, initially empty. On the right is an area for detailed display of the menu sections on the left.

2. First, we integrate the program into your browser.
Go to the top menu “View”, tab “Preferences...”

3. In the window that opens, go to the “Browser identification” tab. In “User-Agent” we select the browser into which we will integrate the program, i.e. the browser you are using. Click "Ok".

4. Now it’s a small matter, click on the button to download the proxy list. Download proxy list button
Proxy servers are automatically loaded here and the “NEW” section on the left is filled in. The found proxy servers and the countries in which they are located are displayed on the right.

When more than 300 proxy servers have loaded, you can stop downloading, this is quite enough. Stop download button
5. Next, we test the loaded proxies. Loaded proxy test button
During testing, the test results are displayed in the left menu. “Dead” - “dead” proxies (not working) and “Basic Anonymity” - working proxies.

6. When testing has passed or there are already a sufficient number of working proxies, go to the “Basic Anonymity” section, select the first proxy server and click on the use button.

Done, now your browser works through the selected proxy server. If, suddenly, the current server is not suitable for some reason, then you can select another from the list or even download and test again.

Proxyassistant
This program is highly specialized than the programs described above. Proxyassistant is configured to work with proxy lists: it searches for proxy lists from its databases, checks them and gives them to you for use. It is worth noting that he does this quickly, which in some cases is very convenient. One of the advantages is the Russified interface. But, alas, the program is paid, however, like all similar products, a trial version is included.

1. When launched, a large list of proxy servers opens on the left and program statistics on the right.

The uniqueness of this program is, first of all, its extensive and convenient search for proxies from its database, a large number of high-quality working proxies from various countries. It is worth mentioning the statistics column, which displays information about all proxy servers and their last check.
2. Unfortunately, you have to use a proxy manually. Those. copying IP addresses and ports from the list and installing them in the browser yourself. How to set IP proxies and ports in the browser is described above. However, all proxies are working and do not need to be checked, this greatly simplifies the work.

Instructions

When working through a proxy server, you leave exactly its IP address on all the resources you visit - provided that it has the ability to hide IP. When choosing a proxy, you should look at its characteristics and check whether it hides your real address.

To find a suitable proxy, go to this resource: https://free.proxy-sale.com. On its pages you can not only select the appropriate option, but also check the server’s functionality - to do this, copy its data and paste it into the field in the “Check proxy server” tab. If you have several options at once, use the “Check proxy lists” tab.

When choosing a proxy, pay attention to its response speed - the faster it is, the better. Also look at the Anm column, it shows whether the server is anonymous. Highly anonymous proxies are marked in the list as HIA. To use the browser you will need an HTTP proxy.

Now configure your browser. If you have Internet Explorer, open the following sequence: “Tools” - “Internet Options” - “Connections” and click the “Settings” button. Check the “Use a proxy server” checkbox, then enter the required data – address and port number. For example, if the proxy information is 85.214.84.104:8080, then enter 85.214.84.104 in the address field and 8080 in the port field.

If you are working with the Mozilla Firefox browser, open: “Tools” - “Settings” - “Advanced” - “Network”. Click "Customize" in the "Configure Firefox Internet connection settings" section. In the window that opens, select “Manual proxy”, specify the address and port number, save the changes.

If you have Opera, open in sequence: “Tools” – “Settings” – “Advanced” – “Network”. Click the “Proxy Servers” button, check the connection types you need, usually HTTP, HTTPS, FTP. Enter the address of the proxy server and its port in the lines of these protocols. Click OK.

To check whether a proxy server provides anonymity, go to any online IP checking service. For example, here: http://www.ip-ping.ru/ Check the displayed IP address with and without a proxy - the addresses should be different.

In some situations, to create a home network in which several computers will access the Internet at once, you can do without the use of complex expensive equipment. You just need to configure your computer as a server.

You will need

  • - network cables.

Instructions

First, determine which computer will act as a server on your network. It must be powerful enough so that it is not greatly affected by the load resulting from the distribution and transmission of Internet traffic. If there is only one network card installed, then purchase an additional similar device.

Connect the purchased network adapter to the selected computer. Now, using a network cable, connect this adapter to the network card of another computer. Now configure this network adapter so that other computers can access the Internet through it. Open the properties of this network card. Select the Internet protocol TCP/IPv4 and click the “Properties” button.

Enter the numbers 155.155.155.1 in the “IP address” field. Leave the remaining fields of this menu unchanged. Save the adapter settings.

Create and configure an Internet connection on this computer. Naturally, use a different network card for this purpose. Open the properties of the new connection and go to the "Access" menu. Check the box next to “Allow other computers on the local network to use this Internet connection.” In the next paragraph, specify the network that the second network adapter belongs to.
