Latest version of total commander. Total Commander free download Russian version

Total Commander is an iconic file manager with very deep historical roots. To many of those who began their computer life by poking at pictures with the mouse, it seems unusual and difficult. But for the older generation, it is intuitive, like any other program from the venerable “Commander” family - the descendants of the unforgettable Norton Commander.

You can download the Russian version of the program for free.

“Commanders” arose even before Windows, in the blessed era of MS-DOS. They were used as file managers in this text-based operating system. The function of a file manager - a program that provides the user with an interface for working with files - has not changed since then. Just as its main tasks have not changed: viewing and opening files, copying and moving, erasing and changing file attributes.

There is a version of total commander for Android devices. You can download the application from Google Play.

All these features, as well as many others, are present in Total Commander. Let's look at them in more detail and take a brief excursion into the use of this program. Here is its interface:

What you see is nothing other than the corporate style of the “Commanders” interface - the panel. They differ from the window style of Explorer, the standard Windows file manager, and allow you to work with files faster and more conveniently. On operations with opening various windows in Explorer and dragging between them takes too long. And in Commander - especially for a person accustomed to using these programs since the days of the funny "Norton" - the same operations can be performed in much less time. In addition, there are a lot of additional features in Total Commander that are not available in Explorer.

So much that it can be called a whole system complex for managing all the contents of a computer. Of course: it was precisely for this purpose that “Commanders” were created in general, in those ancient glorious times when there was nothing except them and the command line.

So, let's list the main functions of Total Commander:

  • Creating, opening, copying, moving, deleting files and folders;
  • Opening archives, archiving and unzipping files, proprietary algorithms for working with a number of archive formats (both modern ones, such as RAR, gZIP and ZIP, and those of rather historical value, such as ARJ, LZH and ACE);
  • Working with massive files in parts;
  • Bulk actions on a large number of files and folders at once;
  • Own algorithms for working with FTP;
  • A special file search engine with improved algorithms;
  • A set of built-in utilities for viewing files of various formats (large selection of plugins);
  • full-fledged total commander for windows 8;
  • Control using both the standard Windows Drag & Drop interface and the traditional Commander keyboard interface.

How to use total commander

After downloading and installing the program, Total Commander looks modern enough for the average Windows user to understand what is in it and how it works. The program window and panels are equipped with icons and tips that explain the purpose of various elements. For example, an element such as navigation through drives and folders: a section with images of drive letters (A, C, D), when clicked, the folders of the root directory of the corresponding drive open. When you click on them they open subfolders.

However, it is worth explaining the principles of working with “total”, which are specific to “Commanders”. First, the two-panel style. Each of the two rectangular windows with files is called a panel. According to the standard, there are two of them: left and right. In each of them you can open your own folder, easily, with one keystroke, move from one panel to another and exchange files, copy or move from folder to folder, from panel to panel.

The second aspect of the specifics of Total Commander is the control style using hot keys. Below, under the panels, there is a list of function keys. For example, F5 – Copy, F6 – Move, F8 – Delete. When you press the Shift, Ctrl or Alt keys, the list changes. For example, if you hold down Alt, the first two function keys will change.

Separately, we should mention such a function of “Total” as a file search engine. It is called using the hotkey Alt-F7. The search engine window contains several fields, such as name, text, date and others. By default, it searches on the disk from which it was called. Let's look at examples of using a search engine:

  1. Call up drive D: from the panel, search by entering the *.JPG mask in the “Name” section - it will find all JPG files on drive D:;
  2. Call up the C: drive panel, search by entering the word “programmer” in the “Text” section - it will find all files containing this word;
  3. Call up their E: drive panels, search by entering the date September 1, 2008 in the “Advanced” tab, in the “Not older than” field - it will find on drive E all files dated September 1, 2008 and younger.
  4. It is worth mentioning the built-in Total Commander. It is called using the Ctrl-F hotkey. By clicking this hotkey, a window for connecting to the FTP server is called up. To add a new connection, you need to fill in all fields. The list of fields is as follows:
  5. Title - what this connection will be called;
  6. Server name – its address in ip or ftp:// format;
  7. Account – your username;
  8. The password is the password.
  9. The FTP client also has some additional parameters, the purpose of which is clear by their name.
It is clear that mastering Total Commander it will be easier for veterans MS-DOS, for whom almost everything in this program is familiar. However, it cannot be said that it was very difficult. Unusual - perhaps, since its interface is still different from Explorer. But, if you master it, you can significantly increase your productivity when working with files on your computer.

In other words, Total Commander is excellent proof that programs like Commander are not living fossils: many new users, appreciating their advantages, switch to them and remain satisfied.

Total Commander is a simple and convenient file manager for Windows OS. Allows you to delete, copy, move and rename any files.

The program is very similar to the Far Manager file manager, but significantly modified and improved. In addition to file management, the program has many other functions. The built-in FTP client allows you to connect to FTP servers to exchange the necessary information. Also, thanks to the built-in archivers, you can use it to pack and unpack file archives such as ZIP or RAR. The program is compatible with new Windows operating systems, so you can download Total Commander for free for Windows 8, 7, 10, XP.

Possibilities:

  • creating tabs (Ctrl + T);
  • batch renaming of several files (Ctrl + M);
  • sort files alphabetically (Ctrl + F3), by file format (Ctrl + F4), by modification date (Ctrl + F5), and by file size (Ctrl + F6);
  • customizing the appearance of the program;
  • changing the left and right columns of the program to upper and lower (Ctrl + G);
  • packing and unpacking files (Alt + F5 and Alt + F9, respectively).

Principle of operation:

after launching Total Commander, a convenient dialog box with two columns will appear in front of you. To copy a file, you need to select it and press the F5 button or simply drag it from one column to another. To move the selected file, you need to press the F6 button or drag it to another column while holding both mouse buttons. You can easily create folders in the program - just press the F7 button and specify the desired name. If you need to create a folder within a folder (for example, the Summer folder, and in it the June folder), just write both folder names separated by a “/” sign (Summer/June). The program is very simple and functional at the same time. The program menu is Russified, so you can easily find the function you need.

Pros:

  • the presence of “hot keys”;
  • Total Commander can be downloaded for free in Russian;
  • You can describe the interface in two words: simple and convenient;
  • availability of an FTP client;
  • Availability of built-in archivers.

Minuses:

  • The program is shareware (in the free version, when you start the program, a retractable window with an offer to buy will appear);
  • Only Windows OS works.

The full version of Total Commander is available for a fee - its price is approximately $40. Therefore, it is quite possible to choose the free version of the program, which performs all the basic functions and provides basic file and folder management capabilities. Thanks to its convenience, simplicity and great functionality, this software has gained great popularity among users and has become one of the best file managers on Windows. We can confidently recommend that you download Total Commander for Windows 7 for free.

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. Today we will talk about such an indispensable program for any computer user (and webmaster, in particular) as Total Commander. Probably, for many people, the presence of this file manager on their computer has already become a vital necessity, and for some it (nee Windows Commander) is a kind of portal from which they start working on their PC.

Do you use Total or its analogues in your work? Are you using standard Windows Explorer? It’s strange, but also understandable at the same time. What an unprepared user sees immediately after installing this program on his computer may puzzle him somewhat.

A bunch of “extra” information about files, a lot of incomprehensible drop-down menus and not the best (in my opinion) initial set of settings inevitably lead to the user making the wrong conclusion (the explorer is a must-have, but it’s not clear what). With this article I want to try to show the potential of the commander and tell how exactly he can be made “handsome”.

History of Total Commander, its installation and nuances

First, let's dive a little into the history of the creation and development of this file manager, and then we'll see what exactly can be molded from this initially not very pretty, but at the same time brilliant creation. In general, the idea of a two-window option was implemented almost at the dawn of the computer era.

Probably, some of the readers still remember Norton Commander, which for many was a window into the file world of Dos. Users opened all programs, games and other things from this manager. Well, and, accordingly, they copied, deleted, replaced and moved. Two-window operating mode was very convenient and did not require the use of a mouse to perform various operations, because the corresponding hot keys were assigned for this.

Then, with the advent of the first versions of the Windows graphical operating system, the explorer integrated into the “windows” began to become more and more widespread. But, alas, it was not so convenient. It focused on using the mouse (selection, dragging, right-click context menu) and most importantly, it moved away from the two-window operating mode.

People suffered, groaned, but continued to use Windows Explorer, because they did not know that there were alternative options, and when they found out, it was already too late, because they got used to it. It was to eliminate this shortcoming that two-window file manager programs began to appear under Windows, very reminiscent in their appearance of the blue windows of Norton Commander.

The most prominent representatives were the still existing Far Manager and Volkov Commander. In appearance they were very reminiscent of the classic Norton. It was these programs that I used at the beginning of my acquaintance with Windows, because Explorer seemed to me then (and seems now) to be a bad decision from all points of view.

But then I decided to try Windows Commander(Until 2002, Total was called exactly that, but then the small softies asked the developer to remove the word they had patented from the name). Actually, this is where the era of my mastery of this file manager begins.

Total Commander is, in my opinion, a very good solution, because Far Manager and Volkov, with their DOS appearance and graphics, made me sad and dissonant with the general surroundings of the “windows”.

Well, when I began to slowly delve into its functionality and feel the full power of its limitless capabilities and settings, it actually became the main program on my computer for me.

Do you know why Total Commander evokes so many enthusiastic responses from those users who were able to comprehend it? But because it allows you to save time on routine operations (we most often save, copy, delete or move objects or folders on the computer) and in addition, it makes it possible to do in two clicks what you could only dream of, seeing the powerlessness of the explorer the challenges ahead of you.

So, the first release of the program (then with the word Windows in the title) was released back in 1993. And for almost two decades now, it has very firmly occupied a leading position in its niche. During this time, a lot of Total clones appeared (among which many were freely distributed), which were no worse, and in some places even better than the original, but for the reasons given below, the original still remains the ideal for many.

This is largely determined by the force of habit, but the main factor in such vitality has become availability of a huge number of plugins(add-ons) for Commander, which allow you to implement an unimaginably wide range of tasks using this file manager. Among the plugins, both green lamers and incredibly smart guru-programmers will find something interesting for themselves.

Even the developer of this miracle, Christian Giesler, said in an interview that initially he did not believe in such a power of plugins (although their support was initially added to the manager) and much of what is now implemented in Total through plugins would never have come to his head. A little later we will talk about where you can download the extensions you need, what types they are divided into and how they can be installed.

Also, the popularity of Total Commander is largely determined by the very weak degree of protection of its paid nature (in RuNet, until recently, it was considered “cool” when your computer was full of expensive software). Yes, I forgot to say that this program is distributed under a Shareware license, which means it can be used for free for a month, after which you will have to pay about four dozen dollars.

But in fact, even after a month, the program will work properly, except that only before starting the program will continue to ask you to press one of three buttons:

Actually, it’s probably worth saying that you can download the current version of Total Commander (infinite trial) on the page official website. At the moment this is the 32 and 64 bit version of 8.01 final. In fact, there is not much difference in them, but users think rather inertly and for a 64-bit operating system they definitely need the same number of bit programs.

Since 2009, the distribution of this file manager has already included support for a Russian-language interface (help, however, will still be in English - to help you). During installation, you will be asked about the language you want and whether you want to install all other language files.

Full Russian translation with the Russian help for the Commander (there is a “Help” button at the top right) can be downloaded from the official website. When you try to enter this archive through Total (this manager allows you to enter archives like regular folders), it will prompt you to install this Russification:

If you don’t want to install Russian help, then you can use its online version - a site with Russian help for Total Commander.

It is worth noting that when installing the program to select a folder configuration file locations, you will need to click on the “Set path to ini files” button (when changing the operating system or transferring the settings of your Commander to another computer, it is very convenient to simply copy these ini files, and not remember where and what you configured there twenty years ago ).

Yes, and your friends, relatives or acquaintances will be able to install Total and immediately replace the existing wincmd.ini with your own(and copy the folder with your plugins to expand the functionality), thereby demonstrating not the ugly default Commander, but the masterpiece of usability and functionality you created.

Immediately after installation, the program window will look something like this:

I don’t like the bold font used by default, I don’t like that the detailed display mode is selected, which simply scares the unprepared user with the abundance of information. I also don’t like the directory names in square brackets, the display of extensions separately from files, the paucity of the toolbar, and much more. My current version of the ideal Total Commander looks like this:

In the left column you will find a list of systematic sections with plugins, by going to which you will see their detailed descriptions, screenshots and download links. This site, although it looks a little abandoned, nevertheless provides quite a lot of useful information.

In general, plugins for Total Commander are divided into several types. This becomes clear from the corresponding program settings tab:

I have quite a lot of extensions installed, for example, for the internal viewer (F3 - the viewing window will open in an external tab or Ctrl+Q - the file will be viewed in the adjacent panel). These plugins have the extension .WLX and you can see all the extensions of this type installed by you by clicking the “Configure” button in the appropriate area:

Such an abundance of plugins in my Total Commander allows, by selecting the desired file in the panel and pressing Ctrl+Q, see its contents on the next panel, be it video, audio, Word document or any other object of a common format. If you use the arrows on the keyboard to navigate through files, then, thanks to these plugins, their contents will be quickly displayed in the adjacent viewing window.

In general, my version of the program is crammed with all sorts of extensions, even beyond measure, but the supply, as they say, does not break the pocket. In addition to the site mentioned just above, plugins can also be downloaded from the TotalCMD.net website.

If you are too lazy to look for suitable extensions yourself, then you can use my plugins. True, your Total settings will be reset and replaced with mine. If this suits you, or you are able to rip out the lines related to plugins from my Wincmd.ini.

All you have to do is unpack it and copy the Plugins folder to the root directory of your manager (totalcmd), and drop the Wincmd.ini configuration file (installed plugins are registered in it) either into the root of the totalcmd folder, or into the location that you specified for storing Wincmd when installing Commander (see above).

Now let's talk a little about toolbar, which you can customize at your own discretion. This is done quite simply - right-click on an empty space (or icon) on the toolbar and select the “Edit” context menu item. If you click on the icon, then along with the above item you will have the opportunity to delete, copy or cut an existing icon from the panel:

As a result, a window for adding a new item to this panel will open:

You will be able to create a button:

For each toolbar button you create, you can select an icon. Moreover, if there is nothing suitable in the default library, then no one is stopping you using the button with two >> to find another icon library on your computer or select a separate file with an icon (for example, with a png extension). I won’t teach you where to get a lot of beautiful icons, because it goes against the religion of this blog (well, or something like that).

What can Total Commander do (basic)

It's difficult to sort through its main features. It is clear that it allows you to sort, delete, copy and view information about all objects located on your computer or on network drives in a user-friendly way. With the help of plugins, you can even view the content of mobile devices.

But besides this, Total Commander can and has a lot of useful things:

    Search in it (Alt+F7) is in many ways superior to the search capabilities of the operating system. It will be especially useful for webmasters search by file contents(this helped me find signatures). Remember I talked about such a wonderful tool as. When you use it to study your site, there are no problems finding CSS rules that are responsible for something on a web page, because the firebug itself will tell you the name of the style file and even the line in it.

    Another thing is searching for the desired object in the folders of the site engine (CMS can contain several thousand individual files), which generates the Html code for a particular section of the web page. This is where searching for Total by the contents of any number of files will come in handy. You can download the entire folder to your computer, or you can connect to the site via FTP using the FTP client integrated into this manager, which is essentially no worse than what I have already described:

    But even a regular search by name through Total Commander has very flexible settings (estimated weight range, creation dates, available attributes), which are hidden in the “Advanced” tab:

  1. The FTP client integrated into this file manager allows you to connect to your site via the FTP protocol and work with its objects exactly as if they were on your computer. To select a connection, just press CTRL+F, and if you have not configured any connection yet, then in the window that opens, simply click on the “Add” button. The settings are not much different from the FileZilla I described, but according to rumors, Total Commander has a problem with password security, which prompted me to switch to FileZilla.

    P.S. It turns out that Filezilla is also unsafe because it stores passwords unencrypted. They were recently taken away from me, and after... However, I found a solution for myself that allows me to safely work with sites via FTP, both through Total Commander and Filezilla. If this topic is interesting to you, then read about and.

  2. Show all files without subdirectories(Ctlr+B) - if you are too lazy to climb through all the subfolders of a directory opened in one of the tabs, you can use this function. If desired, you can then copy (move) all these files to a folder open in the adjacent panel. Sometimes it is very useful.
  3. Bulk renaming(Ctlr+M) - select on any tab the required number of files that need to be renamed using a specific mask. The tool is very sophisticated and you can use it to create miracles:

  4. Directory synchronization - available from the Commands menu. Allows you to compare and supplement catalogs, for example, from a laptop and a desktop computer.
  5. Internal Associations - Available from the Files menu. All objects that you open from Commander with a double click can be associated (set to open) with any programs on your computer. And this can be done contrary to what associations you have configured in the system.
  6. Depending on the number of archive plugins installed in your file manager, you can directly unpack (Alt+F9), pack (Alt+F5) and check (Alt+Shift+F9) archives of the types supported by these extensions. You can enter archives like regular folders, which is very convenient.
  7. You can print a list of all the objects you have selected (you can also include subdirectories). Available from the “Files” - “Print” menu. You can also get a list of files using the corresponding Total commands or by selecting the appropriate item from the top “Launch” menu.
  8. In the "View" menu you can configure different display methods. By default, detailed mode is used, but it is less pressing on the brain, in my opinion. "brief".

    To view image previews, you can use the mode "View Thumbnails"(their size is set in the Commander settings). Of course, to view and work with photos it would be better to use specialized programs (for example, my favorite), but sometimes it is not advisable to launch a separate application for this.

  9. It is possible that this is not very relevant now, but nevertheless, from time to time the opportunity of this manager may come in handy. I'm talking about the ability to cut a file into pieces no larger than the specified size, and then glue it together. Items split and collect files available from the menu of the same name.
  10. There you can also create and verify a checksum for files.
  11. As I already mentioned and showed above, for the million other commands provided in Commander, you can configure sets of hot keys or add buttons to the toolbar. The possibilities in this regard are simply endless.

Good luck to you! See you soon on the pages of the blog site

How to search the contents of files in Total Commander
Firebug - how to use the best plugin for webmasters
FileZilla - where to download for free and how to learn to use the popular FTP client Filezilla

Total Commander is essentially an analogue of Windows Explorer, but it is much more efficient and easier to manage. For many users, this file manager has long become a vital tool with which to start working on a PC. The popularity of Total Commander is also largely determined by its weak level of payment protection. This file manager is distributed under a Shareware license, that is, it is free to use for a month. But in fact, even after the free month of use, Total Commander is not blocked.

Just press one of the three numbers (1, 2 or 3) and after counting down the seconds, the manager will start. There will be no restrictions on the functionality of the program.
You can download the current version of Total Commander on the official website page. At the time of writing, the infinite trial version of Total Commander 8.51a is current, both 32-bit and 64-bit.
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that during the installation of Total Commander you can select the folder where the configuration files are located, for which you need to click on the “Set path to INI files” button. Now you can easily transfer your Total Commander settings to another computer simply by copying the INI files.

I chose the program directory to store INI files (convenient when the program is used from different operating systems). If you use several versions of Total Commander on your computer, then it is better to store the INI files in the Windows directory.

The Total Commander user interface is designed in a classic two-panel form, which is very convenient when performing a variety of manipulations with files and folders.

Setting up Total Commander

Let's go through the settings of Total Commander; to do this, select "Configuration" - "Settings" from the top menu. Window view - here are some of the most important settings that determine the appearance of the file manager window.

In order to add or remove certain components of the main window, just uncheck or check the checkbox; after clicking the "Apply" button, you can see the changes made with your own eyes. If you are satisfied with everything, click “OK”.
On the tab "Panel Contents" provides the opportunity to configure work with files and folders on the manager panels.

Settings items: Icons, Fonts, and Colors arrange to your liking.
In the tab "Tabulators" we configure tab stop positions (size, file type, date), and also set a template for displaying file sizes. For me personally, it is more convenient when the size of files (folders) is shown not in bytes, but in Mb, Gb or Kb.

Agree that it is not very convenient to often open a folder that is located somewhere deep in the directory.
You can pin frequently used tabs to the file panel as follows. Open the desired folder and right-click on it. From the context menu, select an option or "Rename/Lock tab" . You can also use hotkeys: Ctrl+T - create a tab, Ctrl+W - delete a tab.

If there are a lot of blocked tabs, then they can be evenly distributed across both manager panels simply by dragging them with the mouse. Don't forget to save changes from the top menu "Configuration" - "Save position" and "Save settings" . Now you have the necessary tabs, which will not disappear until you change the settings. While working with the program for a long time, it may happen that you have many tabs open. In order to close them on any of the tabs, right-click and select the item from the menu "Close all tabs" or click on the hotkey combination "Ctrl+Shift+W". After this, all unlocked and inactive tabs on the file manager panel you selected will close.
The next important setting item "Basic Operations" .

Connecting the Notepad++ editor to Total Commander by default

The best text file editor, in my opinion, is Notepad++. How can I make it the default editor in Total Commander? On the next settings tab "Edit/View" you can connect external programs to view and edit files in Total Commander by pressing the F3 (view) or F4 (edit) button.
Choose Editor program- a path selection window will open where you need to find Notepad++ on your computer.

Setting up hot keys in

It is worth noting that Total Commander by default has a huge number of keyboard shortcuts to work with. The list of hotkeys can be viewed by clicking on the "Help" button in the upper right corner of Total Commander. It is noteworthy that in the settings item "Miscellaneous" You can redefine hotkeys in the manager at your discretion. Let's set, for example, showing and hiding system files using a keyboard shortcut Ctrl+H - cm_SwitchHidSys.

So, I recommend assigning the following hotkey combinations:
"Ctrl+W" - cm_CopyNamesToClip- copy file names to the clipboard. You can copy one or several file names at once.
"Alt+W" - cm_CopyFullNamesToClip- copy file names with their location paths to the clipboard. Significantly saves time!
"Shift+Home" - cm_OpenDesktop- open the "Desktop" tab in the Total Commander window. It is often convenient to start work from the desktop, and from here you can go to the Control Panel, etc.
"Shift+BackSpace" - cm_GoToRoot- go to the root directory of the disk from anywhere. Also a very useful thing. Clicking "Ctrl+\" you also, by default, go to the root directory of the disk. Well, just a key "BackSpace" by default in Total it moves one level higher.

On the official website of the Total Commander developer you can find and download a great variety of plugins: http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm. If you don’t want to bother translating their descriptions into Russian, then visit the Russian-language website http://wincmd.ru. New plugins are also available from the unofficial TC website (http://www.totalcmd.net/).
If you open the tab "Plugins" in the Total Commander settings, you will see that the plugins themselves are divided into four types: Archive plugins (have the WCX extension), File system plugins (WFX), Internal viewer plugins (WLX) and Information plugins (WDX).

Archiving plugins allow you to work with archives that are not initially supported in the file manager or are supported with restrictions. Using archiving plugins, support is provided for working with a number of other file formats - CHM, MSI, ICL, DLL, etc. File system plugins allow you to access disks that are inaccessible from Windows, remote systems, internal Windows modules, and media with other file systems. Internal viewer plugins allow you to view files of various formats, incl. not supported by Lister's internal viewer, such as images, tables, databases, etc. Information plugins are designed to provide access to extended information about files (MP3 tags, image attributes, etc.)
There are two ways to install plugins: automatically and manually. Automatic installation does not cause any difficulties: just open the downloaded archive with the plugin in the Total Commander panel and the manager itself will offer to install the detected module. However, automatic installation is not provided for all plugins.

Connecting additional plugins manually is also not difficult. To install the plugin, unpack the contents of the archive into a separate folder. It is best to create a subdirectory in the directory with the Total Commander manager "Plugins" , where you can create separate folders for each plugin separately. In the future, this policy will allow you to avoid confusion in the Total Commander folders.
Now you need to open the Total Commander settings Configuration - Settings , where in the section Plugins you should click on the button "Settings" with the required plugin type. In the drop-down window, click "Add" and select a file with the extension .wfx (wdx, wcx or wlx) - the actual file of the plugin to be installed from the folder we created. All! The plugin is installed.

To see which plugins of each type are installed in your Total Commander build, click the button "Tune" in the relevant area. I emphasized the archiver plugins in my manager build.

Thanks to installed plugins, you can view any folders and files in the adjacent Total Commander panel using a hotkey combination "Ctrl+Q". If you navigate through files in one panel, their contents will be displayed in the adjacent viewing panel.

There are many software tools for managing Windows OS parameters - these are plugins built into the system, various tweakers, and system utilities. There are many plugins developed for Total Commander that solve the same problem. Using TS file system plugins makes it possible to keep abreast of your computer's OS from the familiar and very convenient interface of the TS file manager and perform many operations much faster than through the built-in Windows tools.

File system plugins are available in Total Commander via network

Very easy to use Uninstaller 64 plugin , which is designed to quickly uninstall applications that are in the list "Installation and removal of programms" Windows control panel. The plugin allows you to view all entries, including hidden ones, and works much faster than the built-in Windows uninstaller. To uninstall an application using this plugin, you need to highlight the line with the program name and press the Enter key. The plugin is also used to remove broken links (Del or F8 buttons) and view the uninstallation command (F3 or Ctrl+Q).

Thanks to the plugin ProcFS Task Manager You can view running processes on your PC, including those that may be hiding from the standard Windows Task Manager. The panel shows the name of the process, its type, the amount of memory occupied by the process, and the time it started. The plugin allows you to view the properties of running processes and the libraries they use (F3), change the priorities of processes (double-click on the process) and unload them (Del).

Services2 plugin is a convenient tool for working with Windows services. This plugin allows you to view a list of services, and by the appearance of the icons you can immediately understand whether the service is running or stopped. The plugin allows you to quickly change the launch mode of a specific service (manual, automatic, disabled), you can pause the service, delete or start the service. All of the above operations are performed in the service properties window, which is opened by double-clicking on the service line or by pressing the Enter key.

Quick Tabs and Files in Total Commander

Open a folder in Total Commander that you want to save and quickly access and press the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + D" or click on the star in the upper right corner of the panel. In Google Chrome, this keyboard shortcut adds to bookmarks, and in Total Commander - to the quick access menu. From the context menu, select "Add current directory" .

You can select any of the proposed submenu types. By clicking again on the star or keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + D" you can view a list of your directories that you have quick access to. This menu can also be called up using the mouse - by double-clicking on the name of the current directory.

Total Commander Control Panel

Adding shortcuts to programs, internal commands, as well as any system command to the Total Commander toolbar is quite simple. You must either drag the exe file of the program onto the panel itself or enter the path to the program manually.
First option. Go to the "Program Files" folder and drag the exe file of the program onto the Total Commander panel.

Second option. Right-click on an empty space in the toolbar and then “Edit”. In the window that opens, click “Add” and add the program by specifying the full path to its exe file. I prefer to use the first option.

If, after clicking the “Add” button, you click the small button with a magnifying glass, then you will see a huge list of commands provided in Total Commander.

At the bottom of the window in the box "Filter" , indicate, for example, the command number 2400 (group rename) and click "OK". An additional icon will appear in the toolbar; by clicking on it, you can rename the entire list of files at once.

The Total toolbar is also interesting because other files and folders can interact with the programs pinned here. Drag, for example, the folder containing mp3 files onto the AIMP3 player icon in the toolbar. Your audio files will start playing one after another. In the same way, drag the CSS file onto the Notepad++ text editor icon and the program will immediately open it. Drag"n Drop (take and throw) from file panels to the shortcuts of the folders we created earlier will cause files to be copied to these folders!
If your Total Commander is in startup, then thanks to the installed program launch icons directly from the TS manager toolbar, you will not need to install extra shortcuts on your desktop. If necessary, unnecessary icons can be easily removed from the toolbar in the same way as they are installed: after highlighting the unnecessary icon, click on the “Delete” button and the icon will disappear.
At the bottom of the manager there are function key buttons

These buttons also support Drag"n Drop, so the most convenient way to use them is not by pressing the F3, F4, F5 buttons themselves, but by dragging selected files and folders onto these buttons. Believe me, it’s more convenient this way. And if you right-click on the F8 button, a context menu will open where you can empty the Recycle Bin or view its properties.

The FTP client integrated into Total Commander allows you to connect to your website (blog) without any problems and provides the necessary information. To select a connection, just press the key combination CTRL+F, and if you have not configured a single connection yet, then in the window that opens, simply click on the “Add” button.

The FTP connection settings are not much different from the settings of the FileZilla FTP client, so you already know what to do next.

Connecting network drives in Total Commander

Turn on "Net" in the Total Commander setup menu. Select function .
In the window that appears, select the drive and folder in which you want to store the information. You can specify the path to the site where images and documents will be stored.

Basic operations with folders/files in Total Commander

All actions with folders/files in the file manager are performed extremely simply, literally, by pressing one or two buttons.

Selecting files

Before performing operations on several objects at once, they must first be selected. This can be done by right-clicking on each object or left-clicking, after holding down the Ctrl key.

Renaming files

Place the cursor over the desired file/folder and double-click on the object (but not very quickly!) with the left mouse button, the object will turn blue, and then set a new name.

Deleting files

Select the desired file/folder or select several at once. Then, press F8 - the delete key.

Copy/move files

Select the desired file/folder or several at once in one file manager panel. Then, in another panel, select the folder where you want to copy/move these objects and press the F5 or F6 button accordingly.

Select on any panel the required number of files that will need to be renamed using a specific mask and press the key combination Ctrl+M.

Setting up internal associations is available from the "Files" menu. All files that you open in Total Commander with a double click can be associated i.e. configure their opening by any programs on your computer.

Working with archives

You can pack (Alt+F5), unpack (Alt+F9) and check (Alt+Shift+F9) archives using the archive plugins installed in Total Commander. In addition, you can enter archives like regular folders, which significantly saves your time.

Search by files in Total Commander

To quickly find important folders or files on the disk, use the search function integrated into the file manager by clicking on the “magnifying glass” icon on the toolbar or use the Alt+F7 key combination. If you search for files in Russian, do not forget to check the "UTF-8" checkbox. All additional settings (size, creation date, available attributes) for search can be found in the tab "Additionally" .

Splitting a file into fragments

Splitting a large file into fragments of a given size is available from the menu "Files" . The cut file can be assembled in reverse order through the same menu. This function can be useful, for example, when sending large files by email.

Here is the most basic thing you may need when using Total Commander. However, if you delve deeper into the study of this file manager, you can use its capabilities much more widely!

Total Commander program is a file manager that allows you to work with files on your computer. For example, Total Commander completely replaced the standard Windows Explorer for me. Now I don’t go into “My Computer”, I don’t access disks using standard methods, I don’t open folders, as most users do, through a standard explorer.

Now I do all this with the help Total Commander programs. It allows me to navigate all my local drives in a split second, access any folders, and most importantly, move files from one folder to another much faster. This is only a tiny percentage of what this program can do.

In general, if you opened this lesson yourself, then you probably have an idea of what kind of program it is. Once upon a time I described its charms in more detail. You can read this in the article:

I also plan to write a big tutorial on setting up this file manager.

And today I will tell you, how to install Total Commander to your computer or any other. First, we need an installation file, download Total Commander from the Russian version of the official website.

Now let's proceed directly to installing Total Commander.

After downloading, we should have a file on our computer that we need double click left mouse button to launch.

And in the window that opens, we are asked to select the program language. We indicate “Russian” and click the “Next” button.

Now we are offered to install all other languages as well, in case we want to change it in the settings, then change it. I don’t need this, Russian is enough. So I set the switch to “No” and click “Next”. I recommend you do the same.

Then we need to select the folder to install Total Commander, or leave it as default. I’ll do just that, I won’t change anything, I’ll just click “Next”.

The program is being installed. Usually fast.

After which they tell us “ Installation completed successfully».
