Let's talk about how to configure the DIR-300 or DIR-300NRU router again. This time, these instructions will not be tied to a specific provider (however, information will be given on the connection types of the main ones), we will rather talk about the general principles of setting up this router for any provider - so that if you can set up an Internet connection yourself on your computer, then you can configure this router.

Diverse router DIR-300

Wireless routers (or Wi-Fi routers, which is the same thing) D-Link DIR-300 and DIR-300NRU have been produced for a long time, and a device purchased two years ago is not the same router that is now sold in the store. At the same time, there may not be any external differences. Routers differ in their hardware revision, which can be found on the sticker on the back, in the line H/W ver. B1 (example for hardware revision B1). The following options exist:

  • DIR-300NRU B1, B2, B3 are no longer on sale, a million instructions have already been written about setting them up, and if you come across such a router, you will find a way to set it up on the Internet.
  • DIR-300NRU B5, B6 - the next modification, relevant at the moment, this manual is suitable for setting it up.
  • DIR-300NRU B7 is the only version of this router that has significant external differences from other revisions. These instructions are suitable for setting it up.
  • DIR-300 A/C1 is the latest version of the D-Link DIR-300 wireless router at the moment, the most commonly found in stores today. Unfortunately, it is subject to various “glitches”; the configuration methods described here are suitable for this revision. Note: to flash this version of the router, use the instructions

Before setting up the router

Before connecting the router and starting to configure it, I recommend doing several operations. It is worth noting that they are applicable only if you will configure the router from a computer or laptop to which you can connect the router with a network cable. The router can be configured even if you do not have a computer - using a tablet or smartphone, but in this case the operations described in this section are not applicable.

Downloading new D-Link DIR-300 firmware

The first thing you should do is download the latest firmware file for your router model. Yes, during the process we will install new firmware on the D-Link DIR-300 - don’t be alarmed, this is not a difficult task at all. How to download firmware:

  1. Go to the official d-link download site at: ftp.dlink.ru, you will see the folder structure.
  2. Depending on your router model, go to the folder: pub - router - DIR-300NRU (DIR-300A_C1 for A/C1) - Firmware. This folder will contain one single file with the extension .bin. It is the latest firmware file for the existing revision of DIR-300/DIR-300NRU.
  3. Download this file to your computer and remember where exactly you downloaded it.

Checking LAN settings on your computer

The second step to take is to look into the local network connection settings on your computer. To do this:

  • In Windows 7 and Windows 8, go to Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center - Change adapter settings (in the menu on the right) - right-click on the "Local Area Connection" icon and click "Properties", go to the third item.
  • In Windows XP, go to Control Panel - Network Connections, right-click on the “Local Area Connection” icon, click “Properties” in the context menu, go to the next item.
  • In the window that appears, in the list of components used by the connection, select “Internet Protocol Version 4 TCP/IPv4” and click the “Properties” button.
  • Make sure that the connection settings are set to “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server addresses automatically.” If this is not the case, then set the necessary parameters. It should be noted that if your provider (for example, Interzet) uses a “Static IP” connection type, and all fields in this window are filled with values (IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS), then write down these values somewhere, they will come in handy later.

How to connect a router for setup

Despite the fact that the issue of connecting the D-Link DIR-300 router to a computer seems to be elementary, I think it’s worth mentioning this point separately. There is at least one reason for this - I have witnessed more than once how people who were visited by Rostelecom employees to install a TV set-top box had their connection implemented “via wire” - so that everything supposedly worked (TV + Internet on one computer) and did not require any action from the employee. As a result, when a person tried to connect from any device via Wi-Fi, it turned out to be impossible.

The picture shows how to properly connect the router to a computer. You need to connect the provider's cable to the Internet (WAN) port, and plug a wire into one of the LAN ports (preferably LAN1), the other end of which will connect to the corresponding port of the network card of the computer from which the DIR-300 will be configured.

Plug the router into a power outlet. And: do not connect your Internet connection to the computer itself during the entire process of flashing and setting up the router, and also after that. Those. If you have some kind of Beeline, Rostelecom, TTK, Aist-online program or anything else that you use to access the Internet, forget about them. Otherwise, then you will be surprised and ask the question: “I have set everything up, there is Internet on the computer, but on the laptop it shows without access to the Internet, what should I do?”

Firmware D-Link DIR-300

The router is connected and plugged in. Launch any of your favorite browsers and enter in the address bar: 192.168.0.1 and press Enter. A window will appear asking for your login and password. The standard login and password for the DIR-300 router are admin and admin, respectively. If for some reason they do not work, reset the router to factory settings by pressing and holding the reset button on the back side for about 20 seconds, then go to 192.168.0.1 again.

After entering your username and password correctly, you will be prompted to set a new password. You can do it. Then you will find yourself on the main router settings page, which may look like this:

In order to flash the DIR-300 router with new firmware in the first case, perform the following operations:

  1. Click "Manually configure"
  2. Select the “System” tab, in it - “Software Update”
  3. Click “Browse” and specify the path to the file that we downloaded when preparing to configure the router.
  4. Click Update.

Wait for the firmware process to complete. It should be noted here that it may feel like “Everything is frozen,” and the browser may also display an error message. Don’t be alarmed - be sure to wait 5 minutes, unplug the router, turn it on again, wait a minute for it to boot, go to 192.168.0.1 again - most likely, the firmware has been successfully updated and you can proceed to the next setup step.

In the second case, the firmware of the D-Link DIR-300 router occurs as follows:

  1. At the bottom of the settings page, select "Advanced settings"
  2. On the “System” tab, click the right arrow shown there and select “Software Update”.
  3. On the new page, click “Browse” and specify the path to the new firmware file, then click “Update” and wait for the process to complete.

Just in case, I remind you: if during the firmware process the progress bar “runs endlessly”, it seems that everything is frozen or the browser shows an error, do not unplug the router from the outlet and do not take any other actions for 5 minutes. After that, just go to 192.168.0.1 again - you will see that the firmware has been updated and everything is in order, you can move on to the next step.

D-Link DIR-300 - setting up an Internet connection

The very idea of configuring a router is for the router to independently establish a connection to the Internet, and then distribute it to all connected devices. Thus, setting up the connection is the main step when setting up the DIR-300 and any other router.

In order to set up a connection, you need to know what type of connection your provider uses. This information can always be found on its official website. Here is information for the most popular providers in Russia:

  • Beeline, Corbina - L2TP, VPN server address tp.internet.beeline.ru - see also: ,
  • Rostelecom - PPPoE - see also
  • Stork - PPTP, VPN server address server.avtograd.ru, the setup has a number of features, see.
  • TTK - PPPoE - see.
  • Dom.ru - PPPoE -
  • Interzet - Static IP (Static IP address), more details -
  • Online - Dynamic IP (Dynamic IP address)

If you have any other provider, then the essence of setting up the D-Link DIR-300 router will not change. Here's what you need to do (general for any provider):

  1. On the Wi-Fi router settings page, click “Advanced settings”
  2. On the “Network” tab, click “WAN”
  3. Click "Add" (ignore that one connection, Dynamic IP, is already present)
  4. On the next page, indicate the connection type of your provider and fill in the remaining fields. For PPPoE - login and password to access the Internet, for L2TP and PPTP - login, password and VPN server address, for the "Static IP" connection type - IP address, default gateway and DNS server address. In the vast majority of cases, the remaining fields do not need to be touched. Click the "Save" button.
  5. The page with the list of connections will open again, where the connection you just created will be displayed. There will also be an indicator at the top right indicating that you need to save the changes. Do it.
  6. You will see that your connection is disconnected. Refresh the page. Most likely, if all connection parameters were set correctly, after the update it will be in the “connected” state, and the Internet will be accessible from this computer.

The next step is to configure the wireless network settings on the D-Link DIR-300.

How to set up a wireless network and set a password for Wi-Fi

In order to distinguish your wireless network from others in the house, and also protect it from unauthorized access, you should make some settings:

  1. On the D-Link DIR-300 settings page, click "Advanced Settings" and on the "Wi-Fi" tab select "Basic Settings"
  2. On the Basic Wireless Settings page, you can specify your network's SSID by setting it to something different from the default DIR-300. This will help you distinguish your network from your neighbors. In most cases, other settings do not need to be changed. Save the settings and return to the previous page.
  3. Select Wi-Fi security settings. On this page you can set a password for Wi-Fi so that no one else can use the Internet at your expense or gain access to computers on your network. It is recommended to specify “WPA2-PSK” in the “Network Authentication” field; in the “Password” field, enter the desired password for the wireless network, consisting of at least 8 characters. Save your settings.

This completes the wireless network setup. Now, to connect to Wi-Fi from a laptop, tablet or smartphone, you just need to find the network with the name you previously specified from this device, enter the specified password and connect. Then use the Internet, classmates, contacts and anything else wirelessly.

A modern router, or router as it is commonly called, is used to combine the necessary networks into one common network. This very complex device has become especially relevant in Lately. This item, called route in English, guarantees perfect data exchange not only between several installations, but also between networks. Undoubtedly, professional routers are distinctly different from their household brothers. Professional models are engaged in exchange huge amount information between corporate networks. Naturally, their sizes are corresponding. Household routers, by no means, are endowed with compact sizes and special elegance. They are capable of providing not only information routing, but also some additional functions. Home Internet centers combine everything you need to merge all your devices into a single network that seamlessly connects to the World Wide Web.

Why do you need a router?

The main thing in the operation of a router is the concept of IP addresses, specially created to save the main Internet address. IP addresses are not visible from the Internet and can simultaneously provide services to several private local networks. It is precisely for this connection that routers were developed - indispensable assistants.

Review of D-link DIR 300

One of these assistants is the D-link DIR 300 router. This small but multifunctional device guarantees a general wireless network indoors. The Internet is easily connected to the model via Ethernet and then seamlessly distributed via Wi-Fi. In addition, you can share ADSL Internet through the router. However, it is not able to connect directly to a telephone line. But it's not a problem. The following scheme takes place: our router is DSL 2500U, but without the use of Wi-Fi. But it is guaranteed to work if you have a simple device without Wi-Fi from the very beginning. And if, for any reason, one device malfunctions, then you will be left out of work. Therefore, it is best to have 1 device that meets all the requirements. And this is the D-link DIR 300 router. The model is equipped with a four-port switch that seamlessly connects your personal devices via Ethernet adapters.

Installing and connecting the router

Installing and connecting the DIR 300 router is so simple that even a laser can handle it. To begin, choose the optimally convenient location for the model. You should not install the router in utility rooms, since the presence of additional walls can significantly reduce the broadcast area. Then, the model should be connected to the computer. And this is not a difficult task. An Ethernet cable originating from the network card of your PC should be inserted into any of the four LAN ports. And we connect the provider’s cable to the INTERNET connector. After turning on the power, you just have to wait for the model to load. Connection parameters are checked over the local network. To do this, log into Windows 7, then “Start” and “Control Panel”. There we go to “Network and Internet”, “Network and Sharing Center”, click on “Change adapter settings”. A new tab will appear in which you need to go to “Properties”. Here protocol version 4 is highlighted and the selection is confirmed by clicking “Properties”.

Basic router settings

After a successful connection, it’s time to configure the DIR 300 router. To do this, you need to enter the number order 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your browser and press Enter on the keyboard. In the window that appears, enter the user name admin and leave the password field blank.

After the changes have been made, feel free to enter your own version. Do not forget that the first time you enter the router settings, you need to update the firmware, as malfunctions occurred due to the old firmware.

To configure the Internet in D-link DIR 300, in the horizontal menu, click on the Setup tab, and then Internet Setup.

Next, click the “Manual Internet Connection Setup” button to confirm your choice. After opening the next window, special attention is paid to the Internet Connection Type section. This is where the type of Internet connection is selected. There are several types of connection to the World Wide Web: Dynamic IP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, Static IP, Russian PPPoE, Russian PPTP. Each connection is carried out in its own way, but it will not mislead you. Everything is very simple.

A router (from the English word route - path, route) is a device that allows you to make a high-speed connection between your home network and an external one, acting as a gateway for it. In simple terms, a router (or router, which is the same thing) is something like a cell tower, only with a much more modest “broadcast” range. This device evenly distributes the Internet received from the provider across all devices of the private network, allowing you to connect to the network at once, for example, a desktop PC, laptop, tablet and smartphone.

Wifi Router d link 300 has earned a reputation as a reliable and proven device that provides excellent communication quality, and is currently one of the most popular Wi-Fi routers. If you have joined the ranks of owners of this wonderful “device,” then, of course, you will need to connect and configure it so that all your devices have access to the Internet. It is worth noting that the “specialists” of some unscrupulous providers ask for an absolutely disproportionate amount of money for this service, so this information can be very useful. Let's start from the very beginning.

After opening the package, it is best to immediately make sure that the dlink router is fully equipped, if you have not already done so when purchasing. It must include the following components:

  1. Directly the wifi router d link dir 300.
  2. Blue Ethernet cable for connecting to a computer or laptop.
  3. Power adapter.
  4. CD with software.
  5. User manual.

Preparation (first stage)

Stage two (enabling and setting up Wifi connection)

If all the steps in the first stage of setup are completed correctly, then your Internet should work via an Ethernet cable, so now you need to set up Wi-Fi to connect other devices to the router. To do this you need:

  1. Go to advanced settings in the admin panel of dlink routers. In the wifi section, you need to make sure that the green switch is in the on position.
  2. Now go to the main settings section and check the box next to “enable wireless connection”. Enter your login into the appropriate field, and then click the “change” button.
  3. You need to ensure that your private wireless network is protected from free Internet lovers and from random connections. Go to the “security settings” section, which is located in the router’s administrative panel, then in the “network authentication” field select WAP2-PSK, and in the “PSK encryption key” column indicate the password you created in advance. It must be no shorter than eight characters and consist of letters of the Latin alphabet and a digital code. The settings must be saved by clicking on the “change” button in the lower right corner of the screen. Otherwise, it cannot be guaranteed that you are the only user of your wi-fi network.
  4. Next, in order to protect your router from unwanted connections via Lan networks and Wi-Fi, it is best to set a strong password by going to the advanced settings mode on the main page.

This is important: after you have correctly configured the wi-fi router d link dir 300, it is best to save the settings separately on a flash drive or on the hard drive of your computer, so as not to repeat this entire procedure again next time. To do this, in the administrative panel of dlink routers, go to the section called System in the “Configuration” tab and save the current configuration in a special file with settings in the selected location, indicating the required address. In order to restore settings from a file, you need to select loading a previously saved configuration, respectively specifying the path to the file or entering the address manually.

Firmware update

Each wireless Wi-Fi router has its own firmware version. Manufacturers usually have special laboratories in which they constantly test their own devices and correct minor errors found in the operation; therefore, it is advisable to install the latest firmware version on the wi-fi router. For this:

  • Go to the admin panel by entering the address written on the back of the device into any Internet browser.
  • In the window that opens, you can see all the characteristics and detailed information about the device. The current firmware version is indicated between the field with the model of the wi-fi router and the time of its assembly.
  • Having remembered or written down the firmware numbers on a piece of paper, you need to go to the manufacturer’s website ftp://dlink.ru/pub, from where you can install the latest firmware. Updating a wi-fi router takes a short period of time.

Indication of the front panel of the router

  1. Power button. If the indicator is green, it means the router is turned on and working normally. If it lights up yellow, this indicates either that the router is in the process of rebooting, or that it is malfunctioning.
  2. If the Internet button on the front panel of the router is illuminated in green, it means that the connection has been established and you can connect devices via wifi; if the button is blinking green, data is currently being transferred. Yellow color indicates that the connection is not established.
  3. The wifi icon is highlighted in green - you can connect devices via Wi-Fi, flashing green indicates data is being transmitted.
  4. The green illumination of the local network icon on the front panel of the router means that the device is connected to the corresponding port.
  5. The side panel of the router is equipped with a button for instantly adding a new device to the Wi-Fi network. The button, in turn, has an LED that, when trying to establish a Wi-Fi connection, blinks blue; if the connection is successful, the LED lights up blue, and if there is a connection error, the LED lights up yellow.

What else do you need to know in order to connect and configure a d link router?

  • As mentioned above, a router is a kind of tower for relaying cellular network signals. You've probably noticed that they are usually located at the highest points of the city, so if you hide your router in a closet, the strength of the wi-fi signal will leave much to be desired.
  • In order to set up a wi-fi network, you need to go to the admin panel of the router and in the wifi section go to the “basic settings” window. Here you can rename the access point SSID and make changes to other settings, but it is recommended to leave them at default. Don't forget to save your settings.
  • The additional settings section allows you to change the Wi-Fi signal strength in the range from 0 to 100 percent. You can slightly reduce the Wi-Fi power if the connection is very good. Other parameters should not be changed out of simple curiosity unless you clearly know what you are doing.
  • You can additionally specify the address of the router's static routes, but in most cases this is not required.
  • Check that in the properties of the TCP/IP protocol in the “network connections” section, the “automatically obtain an IP address” option is selected. The DNS address must also be set to “obtain automatically”.

When connecting to the Internet, the router plays a key role. Although you can connect without it, connecting through a router is easier and more convenient because:

  • No need to keep your computer on all the time - for a smartphone, tablet, Smart TV, etc. connection occurs through a router;
  • A firewall is installed between your home network and the provider’s local network - the provider’s clients will not be able to “easily” connect to your machine;
  • The router comes with a quick connection program.
