Connecting a digital set-top box to an old Panasonic TV. Connecting an old TV to digital television. How to connect a digital set-top box? Additional ways to connect the set-top box to your TV

Good afternoon, dear readers of the blog site. Today I want to talk about how to connect a set-top box to a TV. I already talked about it in one of my articles, but today I want to talk about its correct installation.

Before continuing reading this article, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the materials on , since we will not talk further about the famous tricolor TV, but about a regular set-top box for viewing a standard package of digital channels.

How to connect a set-top box to a TV

Let's figure out what you need to have to connect a digital receiver:

  • First of all, a suitable one must be installed. It should be directed towards the nearest television tower.
  • The antenna cable is connected and laid. If you already have this coaxial cable in your house, but for some reason you need to move the installation location of the TV, and the length is not enough, then I suggest you familiarize yourself with the material , without completely replacing it.
  • TV set-top box. Don't buy the cheapest model, as it will come without an amplifier and the signal may be lost.

We install the set-top box in close proximity to the TV. This way it will be more common to point the remote control towards the signal receiver. Next, we connect a pre-prepared antenna wire with all the necessary connectors to the digital receiver.

The next step is to connect the set-top box to the TV. The kit usually comes with a wire with “tulips” at the end or, in common parlance, bells. This type of cable is applicable to any TV. Of course, with the exception of the very ancient ones (but I think there is simply no point in using them in our case). The connection principle is incredibly simple. The color of the bell should match the color of the connector on the digital set-top box and on the TV itself. We simply connect each of them in series.

The new model display devices have an HDMI connector, thanks to which you will get a higher-quality image and richer sound than when using an analog connection. In this case, the connection should not cause any difficulties either. Just connect the cable to the receiver into the appropriate connector and do the same with your TV.

If you are using an HDMI cable, then you need to use the remote control of your TV to find the number of the connector to which you connected. If you use “bells”, then just press the TV/AV button on the remote control, which will allow you to switch to displaying the connected digital receiver.

The next step is necessary.

How to connect a second receiver

Quite often a situation arises that there is not just one TV installed in the house, but several, and you want to connect digital television to everyone. In this case, there is no need to install several antennas or come up with any complex schemes. It's quite simple. Depending on the number of devices to be connected, you must select a suitable splitter for the television cable. They can be either three or five connectors.

Accordingly, it is necessary to connect the cable from the antenna to the splitter into the “IN” socket. And the cables to all TVs are in the “OUT” connectors.

Also, each TV must have its own separate TV receiver purchased and connected.

Actually, I want to end my story here. I hope that this article will help you easily connect your set-top box to your TV. However, if any difficulties arise during the installation process, be sure to describe them in the comments field. I also advise you to watch an interesting video to completely eliminate all questions that arise.

How to connect the set-top box to the TV?

All over the world they have long switched to digital television. In this regard, our country began the transition from analog signal transmission quite recently. However, now more and more digital television users are appearing in Russia. This is explained by the fact that digital signal transmission is much better, which means the image quality will be better.

Thanks to digital television, everyone has the opportunity to watch their favorite programs in digital quality. To ensure digital signal transmission, you need to use a digital set-top box.

Let's look at how you can connect it.

Necessary equipment

To begin with, we note that you can buy any modern TV to connect a digital set-top box. Models from 2007 are suitable, but older ones can also be found. The main thing is that the TV has an antenna input, as well as connectors for tulips, a scart input with a video input. However, most modern TVs have an HDMI connector, which is also perfect for connecting a set-top box.

In order to connect the set-top box to the TV, you will need a coaxial cable, connectors, as well as a satellite dish or antenna, which will need to be mounted outside the house. By the way, the cost of modern digital set-top boxes along with a cable, antenna and other necessary elements is no more than 10 thousand rubles.

Connecting a digital set-top box

A digital set-top box can be connected not only to a TV, but also to a monitor, as well as a DVD player. However, if you are not connecting the set-top box to a TV, you will need a special adapter to connect the coaxial cable to the device. This adapter can be purchased at almost any electronics store.

The procedure for connecting the set-top box to the TV is as follows:

  1. Unpack the TV box. Remove all protective films from it. This is necessary in order to avoid heating the films during operation of the console.
  2. Take the coaxial cable and cut off the protective sheath from its ends, stepping back 10-15 millimeters. Cut the sheath so as not to damage the shiny film that protects the center conductor. This film is a screening film.
  3. Carefully peel back the film and screw the f-connectors.
  4. Now all that remains is to connect the coaxial cable of the set-top box to the TV.
  5. Next, you need to connect the tulip wires to the TV and set-top box.
  6. After this, connect your antenna to your TV. The antenna should be installed on a balcony or on an external wall of the house. At the same time, you must ensure that the antenna is not interfered with by branches or power line wires.

All that remains is to configure the set-top box to enjoy digital television.

Setting up a digital set-top box

Setting up a digital set-top box is as follows:

  1. Take the digital set-top box remote control and press the Menu button.
  2. In the window that appears, you need to select “Configure channels”.
  3. Click "OK" and wait until the set-top box automatically detects the channels.
  4. After that, all you have to do is accept the found channels and save the settings.

Please note that in order to connect digital television, you need to use the services of providers that provide digital television connections. Some providers offer to purchase their digital set-top boxes with a set of digital TV channels included in the price. These, for example, include Tricolor TV.

The development of technology does not stand still: terrestrial analog television is being replaced by digital television. Digital television uses a method of transmitting signal and sound by encoding it. The mpeg data compression standard is used for encoding. There are several ways to become a user of such television: by connecting to terrestrial television and radio broadcasting or to satellite television. Which type of connection to choose depends on personal preferences and where the signal is received.

Connection to terrestrial television

There are several ways to connect to television. Regardless of the method, one of the main attributes is the antenna. The transmission of T2 digital terrestrial channels, despite the format and quality used, is carried out at frequencies in the decimeter range.

Depending on the location of the receiving device, compared to the television tower, different types of antennas are used:

If you have a TV with a digital tuner installed, you will simply need to connect the antenna to its input and start scanning channels. A TV tuner is required that supports the type of signal encoding used. Recently, the T2 type standard has been used. The received signal can be open or closed. A closed signal implies its special encoding. In order to be able to watch it, a decoder called a CAM module is used.

This module is an electronic card. Its appearance resembles an ordinary bank card with a special chip. Installation is carried out through the Common Interface slot or through a special CI adapter (included with the TV), which is connected to the rear panel of the TV. The card with the module must be purchased additionally from your cable TV service provider. The installation itself is not difficult and should be described in the instructions. It is important to note that it is advisable to carry out all actions with the television device de-energized from the electrical network.

After connecting, using the TV menu, channels are automatically scanned. Upon completion, all found channels will be saved in memory. The setup is complete.

How to connect the receiver to the TV

If your television receiver does not have the required tuner, you will have to use a special device to connect: a set-top box or receiver with DVB-T2 support.

The name comes from the English set top box (box in the device). This equipment is designed to receive a digital signal, then decode it and convert it to analog. Often such devices are called decoders due to the use of mpeg-2 or mpeg-4 signal compression technology. The undoubted advantage of the set-top box is the availability of greater connectivity options. The main connectors that may be present on the tuner are analog RCA (tulip) or SCART (obsolete), as well as digital HDMI.

The receivers themselves are different. not just appearance, but also electronic components. The components used allow you to use additional features, such as watching IPTV, connecting various storage devices, online cinemas, YouTube, game mode, etc. For this, the devices are equipped with an additional network connector, USB ports, a Wi-Fi module, and Bluetooth. There are also different types of consoles:

So, having any type of TV, digital tuner and antenna at home, you can set up broadcasting a high-quality signal.

First of all, it is necessary to physically connect the devices to each other. Depending on the availability of available input connectors on the set-top box and tuner, the connection is made. Connectors for this the corresponding cable is inserted into one and the other device:

If suddenly the same connectors no, you can connect using various adapters. An adapter can simply consist of a wire and connectors, or it can also have a complex electronic circuit inside, a controller. It can be active or passive, for example, RCA-SCART, RCA-HDMI, DVI-HDMI, etc. Preference should be given to digital signal transmission HDMI, it provides the best resolution and, accordingly, image quality.

After physically connecting the set-top box to the TV, connect the antenna to the receiver and only after that connect all the required devices to the 220 V power supply.

It happens that you need to connect modern television to an old television that does not have any connectors other than an antenna, that is, a high-frequency (HF) input. In this case, you can use a regular VCR. The VCR has an RF input and output. To do this, its output is connected to the antenna input of the TV, and the tape recorder itself, using RCA or another possible connection, is combined with a tuner.

The second stage will be software configuration. On the TV, using the remote control, you switch to the interface you are using. According to the instructions for the tuner, it starts scanning the frequency range. After a certain period of time, all available channels will be found and recorded in the receiver’s memory. In the future, navigation between channels and sound adjustment will be done using the remote control of the set-top box. The system is ready for use.

When using a VCR, you must first find out on the TV at what frequency its signal is transmitted. Usually this is channel 36 with a frequency of about 600 MHz, and then carry out the steps described above.

A special feature of the connection will be the use of your own type of antenna and receiver with a tuner that supports the DVB-S/S2 standard. The signal can be encoded in HD format (high-definition video) and mpeg-4, the first is preferable.

The antenna is a kit, consisting of the following elements:

  • Plate. It has different diameters, depending on the installation location and the type of satellite used.
  • Converter. Collects the reflected signal from the dish. May have several outputs.
  • Disek. Used to connect several convectors.
  • Antenna cable. Connects to the receiver using the F-connector.

When choosing an antenna, special attention should be paid to the diameter of the dish: the larger it is, the better the signal reception. The best material from which the plate is made is aluminum. It is less susceptible to corrosion and is lightweight. Converter location - offset . This will allow you to install several convectors on one dish, increasing the number of visible satellites.

A characteristic feature when choosing satellite television will be the ability to choose a program package yourself, using one or another satellite. Another advantage is that you can also get the Internet via satellite. For example, Tricolor TV will provide Internet access at speeds of up to 40 Mb/s for incoming traffic and up to 12 Mb/s for outgoing traffic.

The receiver connects to the set-top box in the same way as as in the case of ethereal reception.

Connection example

Let us have a standard indoor UHF antenna, a BBK LED 2272FG TV, and a BBK SMP 124HDT2 tuner. The receiver is a product that uses the Ali 3812 chipset. It supports the DVB-T/DVB-T2, mpeg-2/mpeg-4 standard, and in addition has a built-in media player and the ability to record the received signal. Recording occurs via a connection to the USB port of any media.

We connect the antenna using a coaxial wire to the Ant-in socket. So, the antenna is connected, next you need to connect the digital set-top box to the TV. To do this, connect the receiver to the TV using an HDMI cable. We connect everything to a 220 V network. Switch the TV to the HDMI interface and scan channels using a remote tuner. After a few minutes, all available channels will be found. For example, in Russia they broadcast 20 channels, divided into two packages in the DVB-T2 multiplex format. Both of them are free. There are 32 free channels in Ukraine, including 10 HD channels.

How can you mark, connecting and setting up digital television broadcasting is not such a difficult task. Any user of a television receiver or DVB receiver and antenna can install it.

All of Europe, America and Japan have switched to digital television. Russia is also rapidly developing the progress of terrestrial digital TV. Many people purchased this receiver, some hired specialists to connect and configure it, and others connected and configured it themselves, so in this article we will tell you how to connect a digital set-top box to a TV. And that’s right, we wrote about this earlier.

With the advent of digital television, even in the most distant corners of our country, digital channels are broadcast, which are also broadcast in central Russia. That is, the channels that are broadcast in Moscow, the same channels will be broadcast in Chukotka. The quality has certainly changed for the better compared to analogue broadcasting. There are TVs that support DVB-T2 digital broadcasting. It’s very convenient, we connected the television cable to the TV and that’s it, no more wires, and the digital TV set-top box shows in perfect quality. But if you have a TV that does not support digital television, then do not despair, you can simply purchase a digital receiver.

This is what it looks like, which opens the door to the world of terrestrial digital television.

This is what all the connectors of the digital set-top box look like, from the reverse side.

And here are the TV connectors. The digital receiver is easy to connect to your TV.

And so, let's start, after you have purchased a digital television set-top box, come home. Having unpacked it, install it next to the TV, insert batteries into the remote control, then connect the power supply to the set-top box at 220V. Next, let’s look at what cords we’ll use to connect it; of course, it’s correct to connect it with an HDMI cable; the image will be much cleaner and better. But if suddenly, for some reason, such an output is not available on the TV or receiver, do not be upset. “Comb” or “tulips” also work well. “Tulips” - there’s nowhere easier to connect, you insert three plugs into the set-top box, and from the other end you also insert three plugs into the TV, insert everything according to color. “Comb” - here the connection is even simpler, you just need to insert the “comb” into the TV and set-top box at both ends.

It also happens that there are no “tulips” on the TV and no “comb” on the set-top box, or vice versa, but there is also a cord that has a “comb” on one side and “tulips” on the other, and it won’t be too difficult to connect either. We've dealt with this point, let's move on. After connecting the receiver to the TV, insert the antenna plug into the antenna socket of the set-top box. Then we turn on the TV and use the remote control to switch it to AV/TV.

On LCD TVs or plasma panels, when you press the AV button, a small menu appears, with the words AV, SCART, HDMI, etc. Select the inscription that you connected to the TV, for example, if you connected “tulips” then select AV, if you connected a “comb”, then select the SCART line, and if you connected it with an HDMI cable, then select the appropriate item.

Before installing the set-top box, make sure that the kit includes a 3RCA-3RCA connecting cable. Also make sure there is an appropriate input on your TV. On older models there is no red “tulip”, in this case it is not used. Also, some TV models only have a SCART input. In this case, you must additionally purchase a SCART-RCA adapter, because It is usually not included in the set-top box.

Connect the set-top box to the TV using the cable indicated above, then connect the over-the-air antenna to the set-top box. Turn on the set-top box to the power supply; the green indicator on the receiver should light up. Wait 5-10 seconds, because... It takes some time to turn on the set-top box.

Now you need to switch your TV to video input mode. To do this, you need to press the corresponding button on the TV remote control. It may be called "AV", "TV/AV", "SOURCE", "INPUT" or indicated by an arrow pointing inside an oval or circle. If there are several video inputs on the TV, you need to press the button several times, eventually the setup menu should appear on the screen. In most cases it looks like this:

If the menu appears on the screen, you need to press the “OK” button on the CONTROL FROM THE CONSOLE, the search for channels will begin, upon completion of which the console will be ready for operation. If the menu does not appear, make sure that all the previous settings have been completed correctly: the set-top box is turned on (the green indicator is on), the connecting wires are connected correctly (do not confuse the input and output on the TV).

If the channel search does not produce results, or not all channels are found, you need to check the antenna and connections. Very often, the cause of poor reception is poor contact in the antenna plug or a short circuit of the central core to the braid. You can read how to properly configure the antenna in the article “Installing and configuring the antenna”.

How to use the console

If setting up the set-top box was successful, then you need to master the basic nuances of using the receivers. Please note that switching channels and adjusting volume is done console remote control, the TV remote control is also needed to turn it on and off. The set-top box, in order to extend its service life, also needs to be turned off and on, but with the remote control for the set-top box.

You can switch channels on the set-top box in different ways: using digital buttons; "up" and "down" buttons (next to the "OK" button); or by pressing the "OK" button, then selecting a channel from the list and then pressing the "OK" button to turn on the selected channel. The volume is adjusted using the right and left buttons. Remember that all actions are performed using the remote control from the console!
