Setting up iPhone contact synchronization. The Easiest Ways to Transfer Contacts to iPhone

Fast, without losses, in different ways.

Tired of your iPhone, want to change your mobile platform, or do you need a second smartphone based on Android/Windows Phone? Today we will talk about how to quickly transfer contacts from iPhone to Android (or another OS). Four universal ways, which will help you export your contact book.

Method 1: iCloud.com

Any iPhone user clearly uses an Apple ID account, which is necessary both to download applications from the AppStore and to synchronize the contents of the device with the remote iCloud cloud service.

Note. Before you start exporting, make sure that contact synchronization is enabled in your settings. Open Settings - iCloud and turn on the slider next to the item Contacts.

For this method you will need a laptop or computer with a full-fledged browser (it is preferable to use Safari). The attached screenshots are placed in the order in which you want to export.

  1. Open the iCloud website and log in using your Apple ID account.
  2. From the suggested icons, select Contacts. Wait until your contact list is loaded.
  3. Highlight any of the contacts (tap once), and then press the key combination CMD + A (for MAC) or CTRL + A (for Windows), thereby highlighting all contacts in the list.
  4. Click on the gear in the lower left corner and select Export vCard.
  5. The browser will automatically download a file with a VCF extension in which all your contacts are stored. Send this file to a new device and run it. Contacts will be exported to your smartphone's memory automatically.

This export option allows you to get a full-fledged offline copy of all your contacts in a small file that is compatible with both smartphones and mobile phones of “past years”.

Method 2: My Contacts Backup

The App Store has an impressive selection of apps that let you export contacts from your iPhone. Let's focus on the free option - the utility My Contacts Backup(Download from App Store).

To export contacts, just follow a few simple steps:

  1. Install the My Contacts Backup application and after launching allow access to contacts on iPhone.
  2. Press the green Backup button and wait for the process to complete (it takes no more than a few seconds even with an impressive contact book size).
  3. Press the key Email and send a letter with the attached VCF file to your email.
  4. Download the VCF file on the new device from your own mail and run it. Contacts will be exported automatically.

You can also access the VCF file from the browser of the new device by enabling the server on the iPhone in the My Contacts Backup application ( Settings – Wi-Fi Managment) and opening the corresponding address ( in format: 192.168.1.100:8080 ). Please note that both smartphones are connected to one Wi-Fi network.

Method 3. iCloud + Dropbox

Reviewed Method 1 requires a desktop computer or laptop, but if desired, you can get by with the standard iOS Safari browser.

Another option for exporting contacts to a smartphone running Android is using the iCloud server and a specialized application CardDAV.

  1. Install the free version of the application on your Android smartphone CardDAV (

Working with contacts on iPhone is quite easy. But the mechanism for importing or exporting them can confuse the average user. Therefore, in our instructions today we will look at ways to create, delete, import and synchronize contacts on an Apple smartphone. We wrote about that earlier.

Contacts is a separate application on the iOS mobile platform. In fact, this is an ordinary phone book, only containing comprehensive data about each person.

The list of information available for filling out includes:

1. First name, last name and place of work.
2. Phone number (mobile, home, work).
3. Assigned ringtone.
4. Email address.
5. Message sound.
6. Vibration modes.
7. Postal address.
8. Website.
9. Date of birth.
10. Profiles on social networks.
11. Profiles in messengers.
12. Notes.
13. Related Contacts.
14. Custom field with additional information.

There are three main ways to create contacts: creating on a computer, directly on a mobile device, and on the Internet using Gmail or iCloud.

Create contacts on your computer

Windows users can create a new contact using the operating system's built-in tools. For this:

1. In Explorer, go to System Drive\Users\Username\Contacts\ or open Start and click on your account.
2. At the top of the window, click the Create contact button.

3. Fill in all the required fields.
4. Click OK.

This simple sequence of actions will allow you to create a new file with the .contact extension. These files contain contact information and can be transferred to iPhone using iTunes or sent via email.

On Mac OS X, the mechanism for creating a new contact is slightly different. To create a contact on the Apple platform you need:

1. Open the Contacts application.
2. Click on + or use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+N.

3. Fill in all required fields.
4. Click the Finish button.

You can then send the contact card via email to your iPhone or sync your contacts in iTunes.

Create online contacts using Gmail

This method has several advantages. Firstly, it is the ability to fully manage contacts in real time. Also, the Google platform allows you to synchronize contacts not only between different devices, but also between different platforms, for example, Android and iOS.

1. Go to Gmail.com.
2. Log in using your Google account.
3. Click on Gmail - Contacts.

4. Click on the + button at the bottom right of the window.
5. Fill in the required fields and confirm the creation of a new record.

Create online contacts using iCloud

Another way to manage contacts on the Internet is to work with the iCloud service. The web application of the cloud service is identical to the mobile application on iOS and working with it should not cause any particular problems for users.

1. Go to iCloud.com.
2. Sign in using your Apple ID.
3. Open the Contacts web application.

4. In the lower left part of the window, click on the + button.
5. In the menu that opens, select New contact.
6. After filling in all required fields, click Finish.

Additionally, the Contacts application in iCloud allows you to manage entries, import and export them, edit them, and so on. All application features are available from the main menu.

Create Contacts on iPhone

1. Go to the Contacts application or tap on Phone and select Contacts in the bottom menu.
2. In the upper right corner of the screen, click on +.

3. Fill in the required fields.
4. Tap on the Done button.

If you need to add several entries at once, then doing this one contact at a time on a mobile device is inconvenient. It is much easier to import recordings from a computer or the Internet, provided that they are already there. Another way is to import contacts from a SIM card.

Transferring contacts from a SIM card

1. On your mobile device, open Settings.
2. Go to Mail, addresses, calendars – Contacts.

3. Tap on Import contacts from SIM.

This is the easiest and fastest way to import contacts, but it has a number of disadvantages. The SIM card cannot store a large volume of records, and there is a risk of them being damaged or transferred incorrectly when imported.

Import contacts using iTunes

1. Launch iTunes.
2. Connect your mobile device to your computer.
3. Select your iPhone in the list of connected devices and go to the Details tab.
4. Activate the Sync contacts with option.

5. Select a synchronization method. In our case, this is Windows Contacts, since we created contacts in the Windows environment in the usual way.
6. At the bottom of the page, go to the Advanced section.
7. Open Replace the following information on this iPhone and check the Contacts box.
8. Click Sync.

Import contacts from Gmail

1. On your mobile device, go to Settings – Mail, addresses, calendars.

2. Create a new entry in the Accounts section.
3. When creating a separate entry to synchronize contacts in Gmail, you must select the Other tab.

4. Select CardDAV Account.
5. Fill in the fields:

Server – google.com
User – your Gmail email address
Password – email password
Description – arbitrary label.

6. Click Forward.

After this, all contacts from Gmail will be transferred to your mobile device. It is also worth noting that if you use the Google email service regularly, there is no need to create a separate account. It is enough to set contact synchronization in its settings.

Import contacts from iCloud

1. On your mobile device, go to Settings - iCloud.

2. Activate the switch opposite the Contacts item.

After this, all contacts available in the cloud service will be available on the iPhone. Among the disadvantages of the method, we can note the need to pre-upload contacts to iCloud and a mandatory Internet connection.

Synchronizing contacts is somewhat different from importing, since records are not only transferred, but also exchanged. You can also synchronize recordings using iTunes or Gmail and iCloud. In the case of synchronization, priority remains with the computer.

Sync contacts via iTunes

1. Launch iTunes.
2. Connect your iPhone to your computer and select it from the list of connected devices.
3. Go to the Information tab.

4. Select Sync contacts with.
5. In the list of available applications, select the program with which you will synchronize contacts. This could be Microsoft Outlook or Windows Contacts.

Be careful, synchronization completely matches the recordings between your computer and smartphone, making them identical. And since priority remains with the PC, there is one unpleasant moment. If there are no contacts in the selected applications, then synchronization will delete all contacts from the iPhone.

Syncing contacts with Gmail and iCloud is much easier. In fact, you turn it on automatically when you connect these services in the iOS settings. No additional actions are required; they will be synchronized as long as there is a connection to the World Wide Web.

Single deletion of contacts from iPhone

1. On your mobile device, go to the Contacts application.
2. Select the entry you want to delete.
3. In the upper right corner, tap the Edit button.

4. In the tab that opens, at the bottom of it, click Delete contact.
5. Confirm deletion.

Deleting all contacts from iPhone is possible in the special case of synchronization with an empty Outlook or Windows Contacts library. We described this option a little earlier. To do this, simply connect your device to your computer and sync your contacts with the empty app. Also, all contacts are deleted when restoring the iOS firmware. But in this case, you will lose all other personal data.

How can this happen? iphone contact synchronization? To make such synchronization possible, the smartphone owner uses the English version of the Apple iTunes application. It will be necessary to determine which elements need such an operation. The easiest way to do this is through a one-time setup process.
After the initial setup, changes you make on your device or computer are synced every time you connect your iPhone.

Instructions for synchronizing contacts on iPhone

Synchronizing contacts can be as important to the user as, for example, choosing the right one. So, you should start synchronizing your device by connecting it to your computer using the cable that originally came with your smartphone. This will automatically open the iTunes application.

In the list of sources in the “Devices” section, select the iPhone and open the “Info” tab. In the “Contacts” section, select the “Sync contacts from” command and the item called “Outlook”.

In order to synchronize all contacts at the same time, the user selects the “All contacts” item. To limit the contacts you synchronize, select “Selected groups” and select only those groups that need to be synchronized. To select multiple groups at the same time, hold down the Ctrl key.

The last step is to click the “Apply” button. Please note that if there are more than 500 contacts, they may not all be synchronized at the same time - unless the user uses a special caching mode called Exchange.

Today, Apple provides iPhone contact synchronization. The same goes for synchronizing your device with Outlook.

Sync contacts on iPhone using CardDAV protocol

You can synchronize Google contacts with your iPhone using an open Internet protocol called CardDAV. This protocol allows you to change, add and delete contacts on the device, as well as use the same contact list - both on a smartphone and on a regular computer.

It should be clarified that synchronization using CardDAV is only possible using the SSL1 protocol. Just as they depend on the platform, synchronization with such a protocol can only be successful if you install the operating system iOS 5.0 and later versions. For active businessmen working with Google Apps, Google Sync is suitable.

To synchronize contacts with your device, open “Settings” → “Contacts” → “Add” → “Other” → “CardDAV Account”. Next, the user fills out the fields as follows: “Server” - “google.com”, “Username” - Google Apps or Google account email address, “Password” - password to log into the account, “Description” - a suitable account name. After that, click “Next” and make sure that the “Contacts” line is set to “On.”

After setup, open the Contacts application on the device. The synchronization process starts automatically.
