Create vintage photos using the retro effect, use the Tilt-Shift effect to turn landscape photos into “toy-like” ones, or focus the viewer’s attention on the central area of the image using the vignetting effect.

Topic: How to level the horizon in Photoshop, measure the angle and distance in an image with the Ruler tool, which is located in the “Eye-dropper” group.

This should not be confused with the center ones, located along the top and left edge of the working window and hidden within themselves. We will talk about another editor function.

Below, read how to align to the horizon in Photoshop. But first, let's give some general information about the tool.

Open the “Pipette” group by right-clicking on it or on the lower black corner and selecting the Ruler tool. It is not used often in Photoshop, but sometimes it makes the job a lot easier.

You can also activate the group using the hot keys Shift + I. Without releasing Shift, press the I key several times (on the Russian keyboard “sh”). All functions of the group will become active one by one, and this way you can select the one you need.

The top panel looks like this:

Initially, all digital values are reset to zero. Click the mouse at the beginning of the segment you want to draw, without releasing, drag and release at the second point of the segment.

In order for the line to be strictly horizontal, vertical, or at an angle of 45°, it must be drawn while holding down the Shift key.

During operation, the panel will display the following readings:

X – horizontal coordinates of the first point.

Y – vertical coordinates of the first point.

W and H – projection of the drawn segment on the coordinate axes. For example, if in a rectangular figure you draw a line diagonally from the top corner to the opposite bottom corner, then the width and height of this rectangle will be shown here.

Y is the angle of inclination of the line.

L1 – length of the drawn segment.

L2 – indicator of the angle between the segments drawn by the ruler.

The second segment can only be drawn while holding down the Alt key. Hold Alt and move the cursor to one of the end points of the existing segment. When the angle icon appears near the cursor, hold down and draw a second line in any direction.

To move the created line, move the cursor to any place in the body of the segment. It takes the form of a black arrow. Click and drag with the mouse. To change the size and direction of a line, move the cursor to one of the ends of the segment and drag it in the desired direction.

The “By measurement scale” function allows you to show parameters in units that are set on the alignment rulers along the editor’s working area. To do this, you need to check the box.

The “Delete” button deletes drawn lines when they are no longer needed. But if they don’t interfere, you don’t have to remove them. These are auxiliary lines and will not be visible when saving the image.

“Straighten” button—automatically straightens a line horizontally or vertically and trims it. Let's look at this in more detail.

How to align the horizon and vertical

To align the horizon of the image, open it in Photoshop and activate the Ruler tool. Draw a line along the littered horizon or parallel to it (1). It is not necessary to draw from edge to edge. It is enough to capture a small area.

All that remains is to press the “Straighten” button. The editor will automatically align and crop. If you don't want to crop, just take a step back using the Ctrl+Z keys. But there will be voids around the edges that will have to be filled.

If you need to rotate it to a certain angle, draw the line at this angle. Then go to Image → Image Rotation → Random...

A window opens indicating the angle value. This value can be changed if you know what angle you need to turn, but the line was not drawn accurately. Click "OK".

We get this spread:

Vertical alignment is performed in the same way. Only the segment is drawn in vertical orientation. This is shown in the figure below with a red line. Otherwise, the operating technique is the same as when leveling horizontally.

You will have to trim the voids in a different way. For example, a tool.

– a defect in a photograph in which the horizon line in the photograph is not parallel to the horizontal line on the monitor. It occurs not only among beginning photographers, but also among professionals; there is nothing terrible about it; it can be easily removed in Photoshop. It can sometimes be used as an artistic technique in photography, known as the "Dutch angle" or "German angle".

You probably want to quickly find out the answer to this question. Today you will learn about three ways to solve the question “?” and two ways “?”. Let's move from words to action.

Blockage of the horizon. How to straighten the horizon in Photoshop? Method 1.

In order to level the horizon (remove ) in my examples, I used Photoshop CS5 (Russified). This is not a fundamental point; absolutely the same thing can be done in other versions.

Open the desired photo.

On the left on the toolbar, select “Crop Tool” (in this Russified version it is translated as “Frame Tool”), to quickly call the “Crop Tool”, press the hot key “C” (English keyboard layout).

Once you have the photo selected, move your mouse to the edge of the frame and rotate the frame so that its top (or bottom) side is parallel to the horizon in the photo.

After this, release the left mouse button and press the “Enter” key (or double-click in the frame field).

The issue has been resolved, but not completely - unfilled white areas have appeared. In order to remove them, you can use the “Crop Tool” again, or try to deceive everyone and fill (complete) these voids.

I suggest the following way to solve this problem:

To quickly select white areas, select the “Magic Wand Tool” from the toolbar. You can also use the “W” shortcut key to select this tool (the English layout must be enabled). Next, while holding down the “Shift” key, select the empty areas (left-click on each area).

We expand the pixel selection area by 15 (experiment with this value yourself and see what happens)

We are interested in content-based filling: Edit -> Fill (Editing -> Fill), you can use the hotkeys “Shift + F5”

Select a fill based on the content “Content-Aware”, click “Ok”

The result can be seen below.

How to straighten the horizon in Photoshop

Let's remove the selection by pressing “Ctrl+D”. Photoshop itself filled in the unfilled areas. If you do not expand the selection area, the border of the additional drawing will be very noticeable; in our case, it is almost invisible. The procedure is done within two minutes, if you spend more time we will achieve better results

Look what happened after we removed the horizon blockage and filled it taking into account the content.

The issue has been resolved - fixed

If you somehow didn’t like this method, I will offer you a second one.

? Method 2.

To make it more clear, you can use an additional tool in the form of a horizontal line - to do this, left-click on the ruler at the top and, without releasing the button, drag the line to the desired location.

It’s immediately obvious that there is, and it’s significant... Next we will use selection. Press the hot keys “Ctrl+A” and our entire image is selected.

Removed, all that remains is to crop the image or fill it taking into account the content (as in method No. 1) and with this the solution to the question “How to level the horizon in Photoshop” can be considered complete.

For those who did not find this method interesting, I suggest another one.

How to straighten the horizon in Photoshop? Method 3.

In this method, to correct the obstruction of the horizon, the “Ruler” tool will be used – Analysis -> Ruler Tool (Analysis -> Ruler Tool).

Using the “Ruler” we select the horizon line (or that object that should be horizontal or vertical). Thus, we measure the angle (relative to the horizontal or vertical - in our case, relative to the horizontal) by which Photoshop will then rotate the image.

Photoshop offers to rotate by the angle measured earlier, which we agree with by clicking on the “Ok” button.

The image is rotated automatically to the desired angle.

While looking through your recently taken photos, did you notice that the horizon line is blocked in some of them? Do not rush to delete frames: they can still be saved. To do this, you just need to install a photo editor on your PC and read this article. In it, we will step by step figure out how to fix a blocked horizon, and also tell you how you can completely prevent it from appearing in your photographs.

Reasons for appearance

The littered horizon is a frequent guest in the works of beginning photographers. But this problem does not always bypass professionals either. And it’s not at all a matter of experience and knowledge: sometimes the equipment itself fails and presents the photographer with an unpleasant surprise in the form of spoiled frames.

There are times when “horizon blockage” is used as an artistic device. It's called the Dutch (or German) angle: shooting is done from the bottom up, and the frame itself ends up partially tilted on its side. This technique came to photography from cinema: directors of German expressionist films often used it to depict the anxiety and disorientation of the hero.

If this is not your case, then try by all means to prevent the appearance of an uneven horizon in the photo. Most modern camera models already have a built-in assistant function. For example, in the Canon 60D it is called an “electronic level”. You can also use the “rule of thirds” grid, which will help not only follow the horizon, but also plan the composition of the frame.

Try to choose your horizon line consciously. If you are shooting a landscape, then decide in advance what you want to focus on: the top or bottom of the photo. Photographs in which the horizon line runs strictly in the center are often inferior to frames in which it is shifted slightly lower or higher. For example, here the emphasis is on the sky:

If it was not possible to avoid the appearance of a defect, then use a photo editor. It is very easy! You can fix a blocked horizon in the program in just three steps.

Step 1. Launch the program

To get started, download the program from our website. It won't take much time: the distribution weighs 39 MB - this is tens of times less than Photoshop and other popular photo editors. Installation will also not cause any problems: the process is standard and will take no more than three minutes. After its completion, launch “PhotoMASTER”. Click on the “Open Photo” button and upload the photo you want to edit.

Step 2: Correct the horizon

Now let's move directly to solving our problem. To do this, turn to the “Composition” section and select the “Geometry” option. You can correct a photo by eye, but it’s better to turn on the grid right away: this is the only way you can make the most accurate edits. Try it and see for yourself!

Align the horizon, focusing on the line located closer to it. When this is done, click "Crop Automatically" and the white edges that appeared due to the rotation will disappear.

Step 3. Save the result

Now you know what it means to have a blocked horizon in a photo and how you can fix it. All that remains is to save the processed photo. It can be left on your computer in any graphic format: JPG, BMP, PNG and TIFF. “PhotoMASTER” also allows you to print pictures, having previously configured this process in detail.

Other features: quick processing of any photos

If the photo lacks clarity, then you can continue editing and sharpen it. In the “Enhancements” > “Sharpness” section, move the sliders along the scales and watch the changes in the image on the screen. In exactly the same way, you can adjust other parameters of the photograph: exposure, white balance, saturation, etc.

The program also has a selection of tools for retouching and improving landscape photographs. For example, with your help you will enhance the depth of the frame and help it sparkle with new colors.

As you can see, if the horizon in the photo is blocked, this means that you need to use the editor and correct the error. In “PhotoMASTER” you will quickly deal with this problem and align the horizon in any photo once or twice!

Instructions

Tools for formatting text blocks in Adobe Photoshop are placed in a separate panel - it is called “Paragraph”. If you do not see a label with this name among the currently open panels, expand the “Window” section in the editor menu and check the box next to the “Paragraph” item.

By default, all entered text is aligned to the left, but there is a separate button to enable this formatting option on the panel - the very first one in the top row. When you hover the cursor over this icon, a hint “Turn text to the left” pops up. If you need to set the alignment to the center, click the second icon in this row, and to align to the right, click the third.

In the same row of buttons there are four more icons, three of which set the position of the “hanging” lines - this is the incomplete last line of a paragraph to which width formatting has been applied (aligned to both edges of the line). The same options are provided for them - aligned on the left edge, in the center and on the right. However, by default these buttons are inactive, since the entered text is not considered a paragraph, but only independent lines. The right, last icon of this row is also inactive - it should include alignment on both edges. To convert single lines into a paragraph and access these four tools, right-click a text layer in the toolbar and select Convert to Block Text from the pop-up context menu.

Use the other four fields in the Paragraph panel to set the indentation before and after the text block, to the left and right of it, and the amount of indentation from the left edge of the block of the first letter in the first line of the paragraph. These dimensions are given by numbers and measured in pixels.

Helpful advice

It is advisable to set the text alignment rules before you start entering it, otherwise you will have to re-position the text layer, since when you change this setting, the text block usually “jumps” to the left or right horizontally.

For proper design text The word processor Word provides alignment modes relative to the edge of the page. Various blocks text can be aligned widthwise, centered, left or right. Similar formatting is applied to the selected portion text. When specifying a specific alignment, you should take into account the structure of the text document you are creating. As a rule, headings are placed in the center of the line. Body text can be spaced evenly across the entire width or aligned to the left of the page.

You will need

  • Word processor

Instructions

Open the “Service” menu item and the “Settings” sub-item. In the window that appears, open the “Commands” tab. On the left in the list, select the “Format” line. In this case, commands will be displayed on the right in the list, among which are alignments. For their further use, drag the icons with the mouse to the editor toolbar.

Select the block to be aligned text, typed in Word editor. To do this, place the cursor at the beginning and, holding down the "Shift" key, move the current cursor to the end of the selected text. Or select with your mouse. To do this, click and hold the left mouse button at the beginning text, move to the end of the block and release.

Align the text on the page according to the formatting you want. To do this, click on the corresponding alignment button.

note

When formatting text, you should avoid mixing different alignment types. If you format text to be justified, you cannot switch to left-aligned text on the next page of the same document.

The use of gas silicate and other construction materials blocks very common during the construction of houses and all kinds of buildings. But due to the fact that these building materials are not always in ideal shape, they often require additional leveling.

You will need

  • - building level;
  • - hammer;
  • - cord;
  • - sanding board;
  • - roulette;
  • - blocks;
  • - pencil;
  • - hacksaw;
  • - hand saw;
  • - plane.

Instructions

The initial stage of masonry work involves the following operations: marking and laying the foundation of the building, as well as laying the gas silicate block itself (start masonry from the highest corner of the building’s foundation and then level it to one level). Level with a hammer: lightly tap the blocks, placing them in the desired position, and then check with a level the evenness of the masonry. In order not to check each block separately, stretch the cord level along the future row and lay out the first row, focusing on it blocks, then the second one, etc.

If during laying construction blocks There are defects on the outside of the wall, correct them using a sanding board. Run this tool along the wall: it will clear the wall of protruding glue and other visual defects that catch your eye.

If during masonry a gas silicate block of a non-standard shape is needed or it is discovered that one or more construction blocks have a defective shape, it is not difficult to adjust this material to the desired shape and size. Make markings on the block and, using a handsaw or hacksaw, cut off the excess pieces.

Align the protruding parts of aerated concrete blocks You can also use a special plane. In appearance, this tool is very similar to an ordinary carpenter's plane, but this is only external. Inside this plane there are two sets of segments, each of which has five elements: the segment blocks are located at an angle to the wooden platform, making this tool ideal for working with aerated concrete blocks.

note

Follow the rules for safe use of construction tools.

Helpful advice

Gas silicate blocks are an excellent building material. The walls erected from these blocks fully comply with current building codes and regulations.
