The second problem is helped by coating - applying several layers of thin transparent film to the surface of optical elements, the refractive index of which is lower than the glass itself. Thanks to the coating, the aperture ratio significantly increases, the contrast increases, and light scattering decreases. Coated optics also have an anti-halo effect. The presence of high-quality antireflection leads not only to an increase in light transmission, but also, what is much more important, to a decrease in such phenomena that arise when light passes through its refracting elements, such as chromatic and comatic aberration (leading to loss of sharpness especially with linear light sources, as well as discoloration, especially in direct bright sunlight).
