How to update Nokia Lumia 925. Appearance, design, hardware

We have already described in detail for Lumia smartphones. However, it is aimed at devices equipped with a memory card. The method described below is simpler and more universal - it is suitable for any Lumia smartphone, regardless of whether it has a memory card slot or not. True, there is still a small limitation: the smartphone must have at least 600 MB of free space.

Warning: Remember! Everything you do is done at your own risk. Neither the author nor the site administration is responsible for the actions you take!

If you don’t know what Windows Insider is and how to flash your Lumia smartphone with the firmware on your computer in dead mode, then DO NOT read further!

According to some reports, you should not have PFD (Preview for developers) installed - there are problems with it. Perhaps you just need to disable it in the program itself - I haven’t checked. Based on the experience of those who tried it, the instructions did not work on Malaysian Denim. This instruction was checked and written in pure Russian Cyan!

Instructions

Install the Windows Insider application on your smartphone.

Download the WPInsiderHacks archive, unpack it on your computer and run the WPInsiderHacks.exe file.

We connect to the same WiFi network to which the computer is connected. Then go to the WiFi settings on the phone, when the network is connected, turn it on proxy, register the IP address to which the computer is connected ( network control center - connected network - details - ipv4 address- may vary depending on the OS installed on the computer), set port 8877, save.

Launch Internet Explorer on your smartphone and enter in the address bar: http:// PC IP address:8877 - let's move on.

Launch the Windows Insider application installed on your smartphone and click get preview builds. A list should appear in which we select the topmost item, where it says RM-976_1161.

We agree with everything proposed, the application is closed.

After these steps, return to the WiFi settings on your smartphone and disable the proxy. Go to Windows Insider again, click get preview builds(You may have to sign in with your Microsoft account first). Only 2 options will appear. Select the second one (where fast) and confirm. At this moment my smartphone went into reboot.

After turning on the smartphone, go to Settings - updates and check for updates available for our device. If an update is found, make sure that the smartphone is charged at least 30% (if not, connect it to a charger) and begin the update process.

The method was tested by me personally - everything works. Good luck!

How to install the update?

Your phone automatically checks for available updates. However, you can check them manually by going to Settings -> Phone update and selecting the item Check for updates.

At the moment, the update is only available for Lumia 1020. You can check the availability of the update for other devices on the official Nokia website. To do this, select the desired country and model from the list.

The Nokia Lumia 925 smartphone came out just a few months after the original Lumia 920. But how is the new Lumia 925 different from the Lumia 920? Can it be considered as a serious revision or as an evolutionary modernization? We will try to figure this out in our review.

We thank getgoods.de for providing test samples.

Appearance, design, hardware

The design of the Lumia 925 smartphone is based on a gray back and silver sides - they serve as an antenna and leave an impression of higher quality than the all-polycarbonate body of the Lumia 920. The internal characteristics of the smartphone have remained virtually unchanged. The new Lumia 925 supports the same communication standards, the CPU has not changed either. The camera provides the familiar 8.7 MP and boasts an optical image stabilizer, but the new camera provides good pictures not only in the twilight (which we are familiar with from the Lumia 920), but also during the day, noticeably outperforming its predecessor.

The IPS display has been replaced by AMOLED technology (but is still 4.5 inches diagonally and the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels) - it should have deeper blacks and richer colors, although they are not always natural. In any case, the display should provide higher contrast, making it easier to work with outdoors on a bright sunny day. Let's add to this the typical Nokia technologies for increasing contrast and brightness, familiar to us from the Lumia 920.

A complete table of specifications is provided on the last page of the review.

The thin and light Nokia Lumia 925 (129 x 70.6 x 8.5 mm, 139 g) was created, among other things, by getting rid of wireless charging. As we already know from the example of the Lumia 720, its support is added through the corresponding backdrop - without it the camera is somewhat exposed. There is no micro-SD slot, the 2000 mAh battery is non-removable. There is also a drawback: the amount of internal memory has been reduced from 32 to only 16 GB.

At first glance, the new Lumia 925 smartphone seems like a logical follow-up to the 920, although 920 users shouldn't worry. Replacing an IPS screen with an AMOLED one is not always an advantage, but rather can be seen as an alternative. If you use wireless charging, then direct integration into the Lumia 920 will be better than an additional accessory. Of course, the advantages of the Lumia 925 include better camera performance in daylight, although we can hope that through a software update we will receive camera improvements in the case of the Lumia 920.

Ergonomics / at work

The new Lumia 925 smartphone is slightly thinner than the Lumia 920, while it boasts rounded edges - all this allows the new body to fit better in the hand. The metal body gives the smartphone a more sophisticated look; in this case, it hardly makes sense to argue about the “advantages” or “disadvantages” compared to the previous model. Still, the polycarbonate case with ceramic buttons was also very impressive. But aluminum supporters will like the new Lumia 925 case more.

The density of the smartphone also benefited from the changes: for the Lumia 920 it was 1.87 g/cm³, now we got “only” 1.80 g/cm³ - all this was made possible thanks to a weight reduction from 185 to 139 grams. The display began to occupy three percent more area of the front panel, now 63.75%.

Display

The Lumia 925, unlike the previous panel, no longer has an IPS panel. Nokia has switched to AMOLED technology, making blacks truly black and colors appearing more vibrant. If the saturation is still excessive for you, you can adjust it through Nokia color profiles in the “Display+Touch” section. Thanks to the outdoor contrast/brightness enhancement function, you can comfortably read information from the screen even on a sunny day.

The contrast due to AMOLED technology can be called infinite, since the pixels light up only when voltage is applied to them. If there is no voltage, then they do not light up and remain black.

Battery life

A lot has been said about the built-in battery of the Lumia 920. Of course, a capacity of 2000 mAh for a smartphone can be called quite decent, but the Lumia 920 did not use it very wisely. In the case of Nokia 925, we get the same 2000 mAh capacity with approximately the same hardware. But thanks to numerous improvements to Windows Phone 8, the battery should last longer with standard use. In our 720p loop video playback test with medium brightness set, the smartphone showed an impressive battery life of 9 hours and 6 minutes.

Almost all owners of Nokia Lumia smartphones have already updated their favorite gadgets to the latest version of the mobile operating system from Microsoft. However, there are still those who have not yet done this for various reasons.

One of these reasons is that they simply do not know how to update Windows Phone 8.1 on their Nokia Lumia. And that’s why I decided to write a short guide on how to upgrade to WP 8.1.

First of all, you need to go to the Finnish manufacturer’s website using this link. Then, look for your country and phone model name. Done? Great! If you see the following message next to your smartphone: Available, this means that the update is available and you can already download it.

If, however, you see the following inscription: Under testing - this means that the Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia Cyan update is being tested and will soon be available for download, and you need to wait a few days.

So, suppose you saw that the firmware is available and you can download it right now, what should you do in this case? Turn on the Internet (Wi-Fi), go to the phone settings, then update the phone and click on the button: check for an update. After that, follow the prompts and update the device. At the same time, it is important to remember that your Lumia phone battery must be charged at least 50%.

OK it's all over Now. Now you know how to check for an update and also update Nokia Lumia to Windows Phone 8.1. And yes, after successfully downloading the update, in order to check if everything worked out for you, go to: settings, then additionally. There you should see the following inscription: Lumia Cyan software version.

However, with each major addition, more and more old devices become outsiders and stop receiving official support from developers.

Official installation of Windows 10 Mobile

Officially, this OS can only be installed on a limited list of smartphones with an earlier version of the operating system. However, in practice, the list of gadgets that can accommodate version 10 of Windows is much wider. Launch the application and select This Device. Open the program menu, scroll down and go to the Interop Unlock section. In this section, enable the Restore NDTKSvc option.

Installing Windows 10 on Android

Before a full reinstallation of the operating system, it is strongly recommended to determine the tasks that the updated device should perform:

If you still need to have a full-fledged “ten” on board, before installing a new OS, make sure that your device has enough space for a new heavy system. Pay attention to the characteristics of the device's processor. Windows can be installed only on processors with ARM architecture (does not support Windows 7) and i386 (supports Windows 7 and higher).

Now let's move on to the installation:

  1. Download the sdl.zip archive and the special sdlapp program in .apk format.
  2. Install the application on your smartphone and extract the archive data to the SDL folder.
  3. Copy the same directory to the system image file (usually c.img).
  4. Run the installation utility and wait for the process to complete.

Video: how to install Windows on Android

If your smartphone receives official updates, there will be no problems installing the new OS version. Users of earlier Lumia models will also be able to update their smartphone without any problems. The situation is much more deplorable for Android users, because their smartphone is simply not designed to install Windows, which means that if a new OS is forcibly installed, the owner of the phone runs the risk of getting a fashionable, but very useless “brick.”
