NETGATE Amiti Antivirus is a free and reliable protection against viruses, malware and other threats, based on the time-tested Clam AV package.

By installing this software on your computer, you no longer have to worry about the security of your operating system and personal data. The antivirus has everything you need, and at the same time nothing superfluous.

The main specialization of NETGATE Amiti Antivirus is the fight against modern cybersecurity threats, which include:

  • malware;
  • spy apps;
  • viruses;
  • spam aggregators;
  • keyloggers, etc.

NETGATE Amiti Antivirus is stable, unobtrusive and low consumption of system resources.

The application interface is extremely informative and functional. The contrasting color scheme of the work area makes it easy to quickly find the necessary buttons. On the left side of the window there is a main menu containing nine sections through which control is carried out in the antivirus.

As befits a true defender, the program comes to the rescue exactly at the moment when it is really needed, and the rest of the time it unpretentiously and unnoticed carries out its service. In the event of an attack on a PC, it immediately mobilizes its entire powerful arsenal, leaving the aggressor no chance of success.

NETGATE Amiti Antivirus can be downloaded for free using the official website link below.

A little about the interface:

  1. Status - control the status of web and antispam protection, memory protection and auto-update. Here you can see the date of the last system scan, its statistics, and select the type of scan (in-depth or standard).
  2. Scan - choose between quick, full, custom or system analysis. An indication of threats detected during the current scan is displayed.
  3. Deletion - liquidation of objects placed in protected storage with the possibility of recovery.
  4. Quarantine - a list of deleted files that can be permanently destroyed.
  5. Settings - setting the frequency of scanning, the list of scanning and protection objects, autorun parameters of NETGATE Amiti Antivirus.
  6. White list - selection of trusted software that will be excluded from system viewing.
  7. News - displays the current software version, the latest recognized threats.
  8. Information - section for purchasing the full version.
  9. Support - the ability to send suspicious software or files to the developer for analysis.

The program developer is the Slovak company NETGATE Technologies, founded in 2003, and is now a recognized leader in Central Europe in the field of IT security. Its credo is the production of perfect products that are easy to use.

To summarize, it is worth noting that NETGATE Amiti Antivirus, being one of the best offers on the antivirus software market, does not hurt its user’s wallet at all. To receive a daily updated full-fledged software release, it is enough to purchase a perpetual license once, which will become a ticket to a calm and carefree journey across the Internet.

I learned about the existence of Amiti antivirus from one of the visitors to this site. This is an unknown product from the Slovak company NETGATE Technologies. Third-party sources on the Internet claim that Amiti Antivirus runs on a free and open source engine - ClamAV. Perhaps this was once true, but now, as my research has shown, Amiti antivirus uses its own technologies.

In general, the product is positioned as free; on the official website of the developers, next to Amiti Antivirus, unlike other programs of the company, there is not even a “Buy” button, there is only “Download”. But all this looks more like a bait. Now I'll tell you why.

Antivirus installation

I installed this security software from a small distribution package, about 26 MB in size. Amiti antivirus is installed like a regular program. We launch the file, select localization, accept the license agreement, confirm the installation path and create shortcuts.

We wait literally half a minute, and it’s done.

The first checkbox in this screenshot should, in theory, create the “Scan with antivirus” item in the context menu, called up by right-clicking the mouse. But he didn't appear. The first alarm bell hinting at the quality of the product from NETGATE. Then a whole bell ringing awaits us.

Upon completion of the installation of the Amiti antivirus, a website automatically opened offering to buy a license for a supposedly free product for only 1,342 hazel grouse.

The license is lifetime and for 5 PCs at once, but would anyone in their right mind pay almost one and a half kopecks for an unknown antivirus developed by someone unknown? There are no fools.

Antivirus interface and minor pranks

Amiti has a simple visual design, not the most user-friendly interface and lousy Russian localization.

Clumsy machine translation is replaced by cut off words and phrases in English. Although this might not have happened.

Frightened by the line “Last update: no,” I clicked on the “Update” button, but received a fig in response.

Amiti Antivirus is asking for money again. Do you want to update at any time? Pay. In general, by default the program has automatic updating enabled when the program is started, and, if you believe the changing numbers in the “Signatures in the database” line, it even works. But, angry at the greedy developers from Slovakia, I began to study what our girls are made of, in terms of antivirus. In the folder with Amiti, a certain file AmitiAntivirusCmd was found, the launch of which was blocked by the product itself.

With each attempt to launch AmitiAntivirusCmd, the “Infected objects” counter increases by 1, but on-demand scanning does not find any threats in it. Why was this done? Possibly so that owners of the free version cannot update the anti-virus database at any time, as I did.

Since I thought that Amiti runs on the ClamAV engine, which was initially controlled exclusively from the command line, this means that the Slovak antivirus should be completely controlled through it. I found a method for underground updating quite quickly, although I did not complete the hacking courses.

In the Amiti antivirus, in the “Active Shields” settings, disable the “Memory Shield”. Then run AmitiAntivirusCmd with the -update parameter. PROFIT! The date of the last modification of the anti-virus database file is updated, everything works.

By the way, Amiti has a .PFA base format, while the ClamAV engine uses .CVD and .CLD formats. The first evidence of the Slovaks using their own technologies.

In the main window of Amiti antivirus there is not even the usual “cross” for closing. The window must be minimized by clicking on the horizontal line.

You can unload the product shell from memory using the Windows tray context menu and the “Close” item. The service components will continue to work.

The consumption of RAM by Amiti antivirus is unstable, but, as a rule, it consumes an indecent amount of it.

Someone may object: “But it doesn’t slow down!”, but there’s nothing like that. By default, it’s not even an antivirus, but it’s unclear what, so it doesn’t slow down.

Antivirus protection components

The list of protective modules in the Amiti antivirus consists of so-called shields (apparently from the word “shit”).

I will not describe the purpose of each shield. Firstly, I’m lazy, and secondly, there is simply no help on the program. More precisely, in the Start panel there is a link to a certain “Amiti Antivirus – Guide”, but the shortcut refers to a non-existent file.
The quality of the product is obvious. Drawing conclusions about the purpose of an antivirus component based solely on its name would not be the best idea. For example, what does Program Shield do? I can guess this melody from seven notes, it looks like proactiveness.

In short, Amiti antivirus should have: a file monitor, a web screen, browser protection from unwanted changes, anti-spam and email antivirus, proactive components (“Windows Login Shield” I would also include here).

There is no point in describing this entire list in detail also because practically nothing works in Amiti antivirus.

Antivirus testing

Let's start our testing activities with a standard web security check, trying to download an EICAR file with a .COM extension. Everything downloads fine, that is, the antivirus does not catch the threat even in the browser cache.

I thought that Amiti was too cool to have some kind of EICAR test file in the database. But no, when scanning on demand it detects it.

What does this mean? That's right, even the file monitor does not work in this antivirus. And that's why.
It is disabled by default! I unchecked this checkbox, rebooted, the resident monitor started working, but not for long. When starting the browser or Paint, the system freezes. I couldn’t even take a screenshot to show you how Amiti antivirus now detects EICAR when unpacking it from the archive. But it became clear why the file monitor is disabled by default and it is impossible to work with it.

Let's continue checking the quality of web protection. Let's open 10 phishing sites. All 10 are open.

Okay (I mean bad), let's move on. Synthetic tests of proactive protection, default settings.

Spyshelter Antitest, system protection, everything failed.

Spyshelter keylog test failed.

For the second keylog test, I opened the Sberbank Online website and wanted to launch AKLT, but I couldn’t.

Amiti antivirus detected it. The same fate befell Zemana KeySim. When unpacking, the product does not touch them, but blocks them when starting. This is how the defense works in this program, through the stump-deck. Maybe someone will be satisfied with such an approach, but, in my opinion, this is complete nonsense.

By the way, processing of launched threats in Amiti is also implemented “at the level”. .MOVED is added to the extension of the executable file, and the running process continues to hang in memory and cannot be terminated through the task manager. It can be cured by rebooting the system.

But let's get back to the tests. Data from the Sberbank Online service again had to be intercepted by Spyshelter. Unlike the antivirus, it coped with this task.

Latest synthetic Comodo Leak Tests. “Boss, everything is gone”, 160 points, as on an empty Windows without protection.

The product's self-protection crash test failed. Antivirus files not used in real time are freely deleted.

Amiti processes are easily terminated through the task manager, but are restarted by the service. The test passed, albeit with difficulty.

I got excited, couldn’t stop, and decided to find out the detection quality of such an “excellent” antivirus product. I took 500 malicious files from the test Panda vs Zilla and 500 files from the test Dr.Web Security Space vs NANO Free. There are 1000 objects in total.

I checked them with Zemana AntiMalware, which found 460 malicious files. Detect 46% .

I configured the Amiti antivirus more harshly for this test, expecting it to fail completely.

But then the incredible happened. Amiti not only scanned the test package very quickly, but also found 416 threats in it, distributed across eight categories.
This antivirus does not show exact signatures, only the general name of a whole family of objects, which again distinguishes it from ClamAV.

Detect Amiti compiled 41,6% . A very good result, especially for such a clumsy and exotic product.

To finally cover the topic of antivirus engines, I downloaded ClamWin – an antivirus scanner based on the ClamAV engine.
ClamWin checked the folder with viruses for much longer, and found noticeably fewer threats in it, 225 files.

The ClamWin detection was pathetic 22,5% . Which is further evidence that Amiti uses its own engine and its own anti-virus database.

The latest test, debut on this site, is the “free test”. There is information on the Internet, as well as in the Amiti localization file, that this is only a trial version of the antivirus for 15 days. We move the system date forward, reboot, and see the picture.

The shell does not start, AKLT and Zemana KeySim, on the contrary, now work, which means the protection is completely disabled. Great “free” antivirus.

Setting up an antivirus

The process of setting up Amiti could not be described; no one will use this product anyway. But I don’t want to break the usual review structure. Therefore, in the main antivirus window, click on “Settings” - “Active shields”, turn on what is disabled.
The next tab, “Mechanism”. We do it as in the screenshot.

Final review. Conclusions from the review and test of the antivirus

Amiti is brutal trash. A product that pretends to be a free antivirus until the moment it is installed, after which it starts begging for money. And if you haven’t “broken” within 15 days, it simply turns off. The program reminded me of the Russian “folk” antivirus Avitva, running on the ClamAV engine, the quality of the product there was at the same level.

I can’t even dare to call this product an antivirus. Resident protection works through one place, web protection does not work at all, the presence of proactive components could not be detected during synthetic tests.

The only thing Amiti can boast of is its high on-demand scanning speed and good signature detection. It could make a good additional antivirus scanner if it ran in free mode for longer than 15 days. And the best place for it is the trash can.
