To achieve maximum receiver sensitivity, this control must be set to a position in which self- or ethereal noise just begins to be suppressed. Rotate the control clockwise until the noise in the speaker disappears. The received signal should be just above the squelch threshold level. Further clockwise rotation of the control increases the squelch threshold for the signal that can be heard. When the knob is in the extreme right position, only very powerful signals can be received.
    Be careful when adjusting, as careless setting of the noise reduction level can significantly degrade the sensitivity of the receiver, making it impossible to receive weak signals.

    ON/OFF/VOLUME - "Power On/Off, Volume Level Control." Turn the knob clockwise to turn on the power and set the desired volume level.

    L.C.R. button - "Return to Previous Channel." WHERE TO INSTALL A CB RADIO STATION?

MECHANICAL WORK DURING INSTALLATION

Step 1: Using caution, use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the mounting holes under the dash. To mark drilling locations, use an awl or other sharp tool designed for marking on metal.

Step 2: Drill two 3mm holes for each mounting plate mounting screw. Secure the bracket under the dashboard with the supplied 10mm self-tapping screws (see Figure 2). Particular care should be taken when drilling holes to avoid damaging the connecting harnesses and electronic devices located under the panel.

RADIO STATION INSTALLATION

Step 1. Insert the radio into the mounting bracket until it is aligned with the tabs (see Figure 3). Adjust the radio body to the optimal angle for ease of access.

INSTALLING THE MICROPHONE HOLDER

POWER CONNECTION

This is due to the fact that it is difficult to place an effective antenna with horizontal polarization on a car, and CB communications are mainly used for mobile objects. For the same reasons, antennas with a circular radiation pattern of the “GP” (Ground Plane) type are used.

In general, there are two types of antennas for mobile CB radios - a full-length 1/4 wavelength whip (2.75 m) and a short matched whip antenna (from 0.5 to 1.9 m). Due to the large length of full-size antennas on cars, shortened antennas with a length of at least 1.2 m are mainly used, in various designs with mounting through a hole in the roof, on a bracket behind the gutter flange or on a magnetic base (see Fig. 6 ).

Antennas on a magnetic base have the advantage that they can be easily retracted inside the car when parked, and the strength of the magnet ensures its secure attachment during shaking and high-speed driving.

Its radiation pattern depends on where the antenna is installed. When installing the antenna in the middle of the roof, the radiation pattern approaches circular. If the antenna is installed on the right edge of the roof, then its maximum gain will be directed to the left of the vehicle's axis. When placing the antenna on the rear trunk, its pattern will face forward.

Here are some basic rules to consider when choosing an antenna location:

    Install the antenna at the highest point of the vehicle.

    The more of the antenna is located above the roof, the better.

    Install the antenna in the center of the surface that is selected for installation.

    Lay the antenna cable as far as possible from sources of interference such as ignition wires, electromagnetic devices, etc.

    Ensure that the supply cable screen is securely connected to the metal of the body at the antenna location.

    If the antenna is equipped with a standard cable, it is not permissible to change its length.

    Be careful not to damage the cable.

In Fig. Figure 6 shows five typical installation locations for a car antenna: (1) rear bumper, (2) rear trunk lid, (3) water drain flange, (4) hood, (5) roof.

ANTENNA INSTALLATION

Carefully follow the manufacturer's antenna installation instructions.

Attention! Never turn on the radio with the antenna disconnected or with a damaged antenna cable. The result may be failure of the radio station.

CAR ANTENNA SETUP

The installed car antenna must be tuned to resonance at the mid-range frequency. To configure and periodically monitor the antenna and antenna cable, an SWR meter is used, which is connected to the circuit between the radio station and the antenna cable using a separate adapter cable of minimum length. Different types of antennas are configured in different ways, so you should read the instructions. As a rule, tuning an antenna that has reliable galvanic (or capacitive - across the entire area of ​​the magnet) contact with the conducting underlying surface (area) at the antenna location is carried out by decreasing or increasing the length of the pin. Try to achieve a minimum SWR (unity ideally) in the middle of your chosen frequency range (for example, between the two most frequently used channels). And if at the same time at the edges of the “working” range you manage to get an SWR of no more than 1.5, then your choice of channels is correct and the antenna is tuned perfectly.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER WHEN OPERATING A CAR ANTENNA

Attention, possible consequences! Never turn on the radio station for transmission, even for a short time, with an untuned antenna or a “out-of-tune” antenna, when reliable electrical contact of the cable braid and the antenna “ground” with the conductive underlying surface at the antenna location is lost (SWR more than 2.5). In such a situation, an unpredictable spatial redistribution of the power lines of the near electromagnetic field occurs on the outer surface of the antenna cable braid and all electrically conductive surfaces of the body and, most unpleasantly, high-frequency surface currents of significant magnitude arise inside the car interior. Even nearby correspondents stop receiving you, and the PTT slightly burns your palm. The level of these high-frequency voltages is especially significant at the so-called “concentrators” - spatial conductors whose electrical length (physical length divided by the shortening factor) is close to or a multiple of a quarter of the wavelength. Obvious "hubs" include loose wiring harnesses under the dashboard, plugged-in cell phone charger cords, and the coiled radio PTT cord. Through these conductors, high-frequency currents in an unintended way affect the elements of the electrical circuit of devices and the radio station itself from the inside and can cause irreversible damage. The most sensitive to such effects are (in descending order) the central microprocessor of the radio station (irreversible damage), the windshield wiper unit (short-term malfunction), memory chips of car radios and, rarely, cell phones (irreversible damage), the processor engine control system (short-term malfunction ). Let us note, however, that such failures and damage due to unacceptable operation of the radio station on an unmatched load (“out of tune” antenna), as statistics show, occurred mainly only in cases of using additional high-power equipment. (For those who assume or are already operating such “auxiliary” equipment, we inform you that even with a fully operational and tuned antenna, but if the negative power supply wire of this equipment is broken or if the cross-sectional area of ​​this wire is insufficient, an undesigned redistribution of power lines of the near electromagnetic field also occurs with corresponding consequences).

Another dangerous factor in the event of a violation of the integrity of the contact of the antenna ground with the underlying surface and cable braid, which often leads to malfunction and/or irreversible damage to the microprocessor of your radio station (even if it is turned off), is the difference in static potentials that arises in this case between car body and a long antenna pin. In addition to the deterioration of the communication range, rustling and crackling noises are observed in the dynamics of the radio station when the car is moving. Static stress occurs due to friction with the air flow and the road surface. In this case, there is different humidity at the levels of the road surface, wheels, body and antenna rod. As a result, a significant difference in static potentials can form between the antenna pin and the body, followed by the occurrence of a spark discharge in the antenna pin - radio station - car body circuit.

Thus, when you first notice signs of deterioration in the quality of the antenna, you must immediately check the integrity of all connections and contacts or contact a specialist.

It should be noted that periodic inspections with SWR monitoring and minimal routine maintenance of the quality of connections, especially during periods of changing seasons, will completely protect the careful driver from unpleasant “non-warranty” situations and unnecessary costs.

RULES FOR USE OF THE RADIO STATION

    Turn on the radio by rotating the "On/Off and Volume Control" knob clockwise. Set the required sound volume.

    Adjust the noise reduction threshold using the “Noise Suppressor” control in accordance with the instructions in paragraph 3.1 of this manual.

    Select the desired channel using the channel switch (section 3.11).

Note: If the channels are not rebuilt, please note that the memory recall mode may be enabled. In this case, turn off the Channel 9 emergency button.

TRANSMISSION MODE

Press and hold the PTT switch on the microphone body. Hold the microphone body 5 cm from your mouth and speak in a normal, intelligible voice.

RECEPTION MODE

Simply release the PTT button and listen to your correspondent, using the volume and squelch controls to achieve the best sound quality.
