Games for samsung yp p3 player. MP3 player Samsung YP-P3: touch display for the top model. Menu, programs and firmware

With the small size of the case, the display occupies a significant space - 3 inches exactly (66x38 mm). The screen resolution is 480x272 pixels, that is, the pixel density is higher than that of the iPod Touch.

The backlight power of the matrix is adjusted either in the menu or by clicking on the desktop “widget” - a light bulb that allows you to set 1 of 10 brightness levels. Unfortunately, the maximum brightness of the backlight is not very high, so on a sunny day it is quite difficult to read information, and viewing dark videos is completely impossible. But the viewing angles in both planes are very large, and the color rendering and contrast are not disappointing, but overall the YP-P3 screen is slightly inferior to the iPod Touch screen.

When you press the screen, the body vibrates slightly to indicate that the command has been received and is being processed.

Headphones

The test kit came with simple Samsung headphones, while the manufacturer's website lists channel-type headphones. The copy that we studied was not of particular quality, and if you have the opportunity, it is better to get better headphones. Unfortunately, we were not able to try channel-type headphones.

Menu, programs and firmware

The sample that was tested was installed with not “raw”, but already outdated firmware version 1.18, so we decided to change it to version 2.07. The new firmware version allows you to view divX video, the support of which is stated in the player’s specifications, and also adds the ability to view videos with a resolution of up to 800x600 pixels, and theoretically improves the sensitivity of the touch screen. In addition, version 2.07 adds a simple graphic editor and mosaic search in video mode (more on them later).

In automatic mode, the update occurs in the Samsung EmoDio program, which checks the firmware version every time you connect. In manual mode, you need to download the firmware from the manufacturer’s website, write it to the root directory of the player, then disconnect the player from the PC’s USB bus and turn it on.

It seems that everything is simple, but when flashing it manually, difficulties arose in the form of an ominous inscription at the first start: “Invalid firmware”, after which the player refused to turn on and could only work in USB media mode.

A recovery attempt was made in the EmoDio program, but it failed. It was possible to “revive” the player only by rolling back to firmware version 1.11, after which the update to version 2.07 was still possible. After flashing the player, all user data was saved. The new firmware introduced support for new formats and resolutions, as well as a mosaic search and a graphic editor, but the promised 30% increase in sensitivity was not noticed, except that the menu animation became smoother, without noticeable jerks.

MP3 player displays have undergone several changes over the past few years. From black and white information panels, they first turned into multicolor ones, then grew in size and began to show the user photographs and videos. Now they also claim to be controls, displacing not only mechanical, but also touch keys. The fashion trend was set by Apple with its unique iPod Touch solution, and all other manufacturers of portable electronics followed suit. Samsung Electronics is no exception. The new MP3 player YP-P3 can hardly be called, as is now fashionable, the “killer” of the iPod, but this does not mean that it is worse than the iPod Touch model - the matter is completely different. Although the new product from Samsung is equipped with a touch screen, unlike its competitor, it has completely different controls, other interesting features, and an appearance that is completely different from the iPod Touch. We will now find out exactly what the new product can attract to a potential buyer.

Equipment

In order not to once again seem to be adopting ideas from Apple, designers from Samsung abandoned transparent plastic packaging in favor of a traditional cardboard box, which, by the way, looks no worse than newfangled plastic. In addition, cardboard is cheaper and easier to recycle.

Inside the box, in addition to the player itself, there were in-ear headphones, a proprietary interface cable for charging from a USB port and exchanging information with a computer, a CD with software and a short user manual. The equipment is simple and does not deserve special attention.

Design and appearance

The form factor of the YP-P3 model is dictated by fashion. This is a vertically oriented candy bar with a large display that occupies most of the entire front panel area. The back of the case, as well as its side edges, are made of metal, and the display frame and the silver insert along the perimeter of the side edges are plastic. The plastic of the front panel is matte and has a soft-touch coating, which contrasts sharply with the glossy plastic coating of the display. The manufacturing quality of the new product is at a high level, and the materials used are not the cheapest. After one day of carrying the player in my pocket along with keys and coins, not a single scratch was found on the body or protective glass of the display.

Overall, the YP-P3 looks stylish, noble, and expensive. The new product fits perfectly in your hand, and its mass, comparable to a mobile phone, gives the device special respect - you feel that you are not holding a Chinese craft, but a solid thing.

There is only one disappointing detail in the player's design. Its front panel looks like it is made of three parts, painted in different shades of black. The player would look much stricter and more interesting if there were only two such shades, i.e. the display would not have an additional black frame. This framing appeared in the YP-P3 due to two factors. Firstly, the installed display has a slightly smaller diagonal than the dimensions of the case allow, and therefore, to prevent visual discomfort, the designers decided to compensate for this disadvantage with protective glass larger in area than the display itself. Secondly, hidden under the protective glass of the display is a multifunctional touch area that is sensitive to both a simple single press and moving your finger across it. The new product also has mechanical buttons. They are located on the top end next to the mesh of the built-in miniature speaker and are designed to adjust the sound volume, turn on the power and lock. It’s nice that against the backdrop of the touchscreen boom, the manufacturer decided not to abandon mechanical keys for adjusting sound volume. So the YP-P3 is quite suitable for working in the cold, when your hands are in gloves. In addition, you can quickly unlock the player, adjust the volume, and then lock it again directly by touch with one hand, without removing the device from your pocket.

The headphone jack is located at the bottom end. It is a standard 3.5 mm mini-jack, and therefore allows you to easily connect any headphones. But the interface connector, unfortunately, is proprietary and requires a proprietary cable from the kit to connect to the computer, the loss or damage of which promises the user a long search for this simple but rare cord.

Review and testing of the Samsung Galaxy Note5 smartphone

With a loud announcement back in 2011, Samsung opened a completely new and, as it later turned out, very promising segment of mobile devices. The idea of creating some kind of hybrid device based on a smartphone and a tablet computer was hanging in the air, but only South Korean engineers managed to turn it into a full-fledged product.

And now the fifth generation of this very interesting and largely innovative gadget has arrived at the stand of our test laboratory. What new and unusual things did you acquire? GalaxyNote5 in comparison with its predecessor and how radical and promising were these changes? You will learn all this and even more from our further review. And we will start it traditionally with a consideration of the technical characteristics.

Delivery and configuration

The Samsung Galaxy Note5 smartphone comes in a small, tightly fitted box made of high-quality cardboard, which has an extremely minimalistic design.

Having opened it, the owner of the gadget will definitely find: a compact charger, a USB cable, a wired headset with in-ear headphones, a proprietary clip for removing the SIM card tray, as well as a standard set of user documentation.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

The very beautiful and attractive appearance of the Samsung Galaxy Note5 almost completely inherits the ideas inherent in its closest relative -. Thin frames around the display, a characteristic smooth curve near the edges and a very successful combination of metal and tempered glass will certainly be included in textbooks on industrial design.

Despite not the most compact dimensions (153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm) and generally noticeable weight (171 g), the gadget lies quite comfortably in the hand, which in turn allows you to operate without any visible problems all its available functions. Only those with small hands will sometimes simply not have enough finger length to reach the opposite side of the display without touching the near part of the screen with their palm.

Thanks to the successful combination of materials used, as well as their high quality, the smartphone looks truly stylish and expensive. The front and back panels of the case are made of ultra-durable tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which has a good oleophobic coating. Despite this, fingerprints still appear on the panels, but, fortunately, they can be easily removed using available means.

The frame of the smartphone is made of high-quality anodized aluminum. It flows smoothly into the sides of the body, which has a positive effect on the overall rigidity and reliability of the structure.

The arrangement of functional elements in the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is very convenient and almost completely repeats the structure used in the previous phablet model. So, above the screen there are: a speaker, a front camera lens, proximity/light sensors and an LED indicator, and below it there are three standard control buttons: a mechanical “Home” (equipped with a built-in fingerprint scanner) and two touch ones (“Back” and "Menu"). The top edge of the device is occupied by a Nano-SIM card tray and a small microphone hole, while the bottom contains a 3.5 mm audio jack for a headset, a micro-USB 2.0 port, a multimedia speaker grille, another hole for an additional microphone, as well as a connector for the included stylus. On the right side of the device there is a power button, and on the left there are two volume keys.

The back of the Samsung Galaxy Note5 has a stylish dark blue design. Depending on the degree of illumination, it can change its color from simple blue to completely black. In addition to the traditional manufacturer logo and model name, there is a main camera lens, a single-section LED flash and a heart rate monitor.

The main and, perhaps, the most interesting feature of the entire line of Samsung Galaxy Note phablets is the presence of a proprietary electronic pen, which has a number of interesting functions and can be very helpful when working with the device.

In this model, the stylus is made in the form of a plastic pen with a wide metal insert at the edge and an on-screen menu button on the side. In addition, at its end there is a two-stage key, by pressing which the accessory is easily removed from the connector on the smartphone, and is also securely attached to it after solving the task.

A thin pen paired with a sensitive touch screen substrate allows you to recognize up to 1024 degrees of pressure, as well as track the angle of inclination and speed of movement. All this helps you easily enter handwritten text and work in various graphic editors.

The build quality of the Samsung Galaxy Note5 deserves only positive reviews. All elements of the case are fitted very tightly, and the design of the device itself is a real monolith. When you try to twist and put pressure on the front or back, nothing bends, and the image on the display remains without visible streaks or artifacts.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Note5 has a 5.7-inch screen built on a Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a pixel density of 515 ppi. The display is currently one of the best in the class of mobile devices, as it can offer stunning image detail, high contrast, excellent viewing angles (up to 180°) and natural color reproduction with the deepest and most accurate blacks.

The presence of a light sensor ensures automatic brightness adjustment over a fairly wide range. Thanks to this, the smartphone is comfortable to use both on a bright sunny day and in low light conditions. The built-in touch screen substrate supports recognition of up to 10 simultaneous clicks. Everything works quickly and clearly, without false positives or other inconveniences.

Audio subsystem

The Samsung Galaxy Note5 smartphone is equipped with only one, but very high-quality multimedia speaker. It has a fairly balanced and pleasant frequency range, as well as a noticeable volume reserve, which is more than enough to comfortably perform everyday tasks, run games and watch videos.

The sound in the included headphones also turned out to be quite decent and very pleasant. It had a fairly wide frequency range and the necessary volume reserve.

Camera

The digital arsenal of the phablet is represented by two cameras: the main one (with a 16-megapixel module, f/1.9 aperture and an optical image stabilization system) and the front one (with a 5-megapixel module, f/1.9 aperture and wide-angle optics). They are capable of recording video with maximum resolutions of up to 4K Ultra HD and 1080p, respectively.

The photo and video materials obtained with their help can boast of excellent quality, natural color rendition, high contrast and fairly deep picture detail. Thanks to the updated algorithm, it was possible to significantly improve shooting parameters in low light conditions, as well as get rid of the appearance of characteristic artifacts when the noise reduction system is activated.

Review and testing of the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone

In recent years, everyone has become accustomed to the fact that with each release of a new flagship smartphone of the Samsung Galaxy S series, we receive one of the most technological gadgets on the market, capable of satisfying the needs of even the most demanding user. And if the functionality of Korean devices was always at the highest level, then in terms of design only the lazy did not criticize their decisions. This is primarily due to not too significant differences between generations of devices in appearance and in terms of materials used.

In the same year, at the MWC exhibition in Barcelona, fans of the brand were given a pleasant surprise in the form of a presentation of two flagships at once - and, which received a new design using metal and glass in the design. We received the first model for testing, without a curved display and the “Edge” prefix, but no less interesting for that. Read our review to see how successful the device turned out. To begin with, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the technical characteristics of the new product:

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will receive an eight-core processor and 4 GB of RAM

Another round of rumors about a new device from Samsung: the company is preparing a new phablet called the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and it will be built on the Samsung Exynos 7422 single-chip system. This system includes eight powerful cores and supports 4 GB of RAM (and maybe with a larger volume) and is equipped with modern mobile graphics.

According to preliminary data, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will receive the same 4 GB of RAM, and the amount of built-in flash memory will be 32 GB. There is no exact information about the presence of a slot for memory cards. However, it is known that the phablet will receive a 5.7-inch touch screen with QHD resolution, standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless modules, and, naturally, two cameras (the main one will have a flash).

New Samsung Galaxy Young 3 spotted

A year earlier, Samsung presented an entry-level smartphone called Samsung Galaxy Young 2. Now information has appeared on the User Agent Profile website that the well-known manufacturer is working on the next model, Samsung Galaxy Young 3, codenamed SM-G150NL.

From the technical specifications, it is known that there is a 3.8-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 246 ppi. Let us remind you that the previous model is equipped with a 3.5-inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and a density of 165 ppi.

Note that the Samsung Galaxy Young series of smartphones includes only affordable entry-level models. However, despite this, the manufacturer is ready to make updates according to the latest user requirements.

Samsung Galaxy A8 is Samsung's thinnest smartphone

An official page for a new smartphone called the Samsung Galaxy A8 has appeared on the Samsung Electronics website, which has already been dubbed the company’s thinnest device in its class, because the thickness of its all-metal body is only 5.9 mm.

At the same time, the phablet does not weigh that much (151 grams) and boasts decent technical characteristics. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is powered by an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, complemented by 2 GB of RAM and 16 or 32 GB of internal flash memory. The 5.7-inch Super AMOLED touch screen supports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and the main 16-megapixel camera has an LED flash, which the 5-megapixel front selfie camera does not have.

Also, new owners will definitely need a slot for microSD memory cards, a built-in NFC chip, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE wireless adapters, as well as a GPS/GLONASS navigation system module. Samsung has not forgotten about the capacious 3050 mAh battery, which can provide up to 304 hours of standby time. And as an additional feature, there is a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button.

Samsung Galaxy A8 will be available in three body colors: black, white and gold. Unfortunately, the timing of the start of sales and the cost of the new product remain secret.

Google Nexus 5 (2015) easily beats competitors in AnTuTu

Last year, the most productive smartphone in the database of the popular AnTuTu mobile benchmark was Meizu MX4. At the beginning of this year, Samsung's flagship (Samsung Galaxy S6) took the palm with a score of 68,157 points. But it looks like Google will have its own champion - Google Nexus 5 (2015).

According to the published screenshots of AnTuTu Benchmark 5.7.1, the new product was able to score an impressive 85,530 points. If they are indeed true, then the Google Nexus 5 (2015) will set a new benchmark for performance in the smartphone world.

The estimated release of the new product is expected in the fall of 2015. It is reported that Google even abandoned the development of a tablet this year (due to declining consumer interest in this product category). In return, it will present two smartphones created by LG and Huawei. But so far this is unconfirmed information.

Technical characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy J2 smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy J series of smart mobile phones includes three models: Galaxy J1, J5 and J7, but despite this, the South Korean manufacturer plans to expand it with another model. We are talking about the Samsung Galaxy J2 smartphone.

It is reported that the new model of the device will retain the corporate design and specifications. The source claims that the model has now been sent for testing, as evidenced by the appearance of an entry in the Geekbench benchmark database.

As for technical capabilities, the Samsung Galaxy J2 device will have a 5-inch TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The device will be based on a 4-core 32-bit Exynos 3475 platform with a clock frequency of 2 GHz. The volume of RAM and internal memory will be 1.5 and 8 GB, respectively. It is also possible to expand the latter indicator using a microSD memory card. Photo and video capabilities are represented by a rear 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front module.

The exact price of the smartphone will be indicated very soon, or rather after the official announcement, which will take place within the next month.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus - an improved flagship model will receive a 5.7-inch display

Information has appeared on the Internet that the South Korean company Samsung is currently working on a new version of the acclaimed flagship Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The name of the new product and some technical parameters are known, which are somewhat different from the original.

So, it is assumed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus model will receive a 5.7-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Let us remind you that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has a 5.1-inch screen. The processor will be the already well-known Exynos 7420 chip. The amount of RAM will be 3 GB.

It is also reported that there are 5-megapixel front and 16-megapixel main cameras. The improved device will run on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system, and the side edges will also be curved.

At the moment, there is no other information regarding the new smartphone model.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablet is equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C port

According to unofficial information, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone will have a USB 3.1 Type-C connector with a bandwidth of 10 Gbps. In addition to increasing the data transfer speed, it will simplify the connection (the symmetrical connector can be connected on either side) and increase the input signal current (1.5 or 3 A), which will speed up the charging process of the internal battery.

It also became known that the display diagonal of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be 5.89 inches, however, it is too early to talk about support for 4K resolution; on the contrary, sources hint at more modest figures. At the same time, the device will become thinner (7.9 mm versus 8.5 mm) than the current version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The new product will also boast a significantly larger battery capacity (4100 mAh versus 3220 mAh) and support for the flagship processor Samsung Exynos 7422 (modified version of Samsung Exynos 7420).

It is expected that the debut of the new device will take place as part of the autumn IFA 2015 exhibition. Preliminary table of characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablet:

Samsung received a patent for technology to release the stylus using a voice command

The S Pen accessory found on the Samsung Galaxy Note series is a pretty interesting idea. With this device, the user can create handwritten notes, draw, and interact with the device with more than just a touch of their fingers. However, despite this, there is a high probability of losing the stylus.

Samsung decided to cope with this problem, which received a patent for a technology that describes a method for removing an accessory using a voice command. In other words, this is a special mechanism that will hold the stylus and release it only after pronouncing a special phrase. Thus, we can say that the S Pen device will not be used by another user.

The patent also describes the possibility of automatically launching an application that requires the use of a stylus. That is, immediately after removing the accessory, the user will not need to launch the corresponding program, since it is activated at the software level.

The source suggests the use of this technology in the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablet, the announcement of which is scheduled for early September of this year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 review: new features of the familiar Samsung

Not long ago, Samsung released another new model that combines several powerful parameters. The name of the communicator is Samsung Galaxy Note 4. This device was presented to discerning style connoisseurs in four colors: classic black, white and, for girls, hot pink and ash rose. The creators of the smartphone chose to leave the design classic. The new product pleases with discreet, clear lines and the usual “Samsung” smoothed corners. The new product weighs just over 170 grams. Supports one card (micro SIM).

What is unusual is the very pleasant new surface: the body is made of plastic and metal and imitates the texture of leather. The new one, starting at $670, does not slip in the hand and creates a very pleasant tactile sensation. The dimensions of the device are 153x78x8.5 mm. Very elegant slim body with a large 5.7-inch screen. And the screen resolution is impressive: 1440x2560 pixels. A bright, ultra-clear picture will bring true pleasure to high-tech gourmets. The device uses a Super AMOLED screen that reproduces more than 16 million colors. The display is protected from scratches and shocks by Gorilla Glass technology, so beloved by consumers.

The communicator provides amazing performance with an 8-core Exynos 5433 processor (operating frequency 1.9 GHz). The conducted “test drive” clearly demonstrated how successfully, quickly and without any freezes this communicator copes with many tasks simultaneously. A huge number of functions are available to the user. The device supports the following standards: GSM 900/1900/1800, LTE Advanced Cat. 4, LTE, 3G. LTE bands are: 2600, 2100, 1900, 1800, 900, 850, 800 and 700 MHz. Satellite navigation is available GPS/GLONASS. The device operates on the Android 4.4 operating system, so beloved by many users.

Particularly noteworthy is the 16-megapixel camera with autofocus, built-in LED flash, HDR and macro mode. The almost universal camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is endowed with a whole set of useful functions, such as: optical stabilization, quick detection of a counterpart’s face, etc. The RAM capacity of this fast device is 3 GB. Built-in memory is 32 GB. Additionally, a card up to 64 GB is supported. In such a “database” you can store a huge amount of text information, photos, videos and everything your heart desires. Moreover, this communicator can shoot video at a frequency of 30 frames/sec and an amazing resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. Which is very convenient, there is also a front camera.

You can study the characteristics of the new product in more detail on the portal http://price.ua, and among the important functions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 I would also like to highlight the built-in light sensor, proximity sensor, innovative fingerprint reading system, heart rate measurement, etc. The organizer contains a planner tasks, support for all kinds of MS Office files, calendar, alarm clock and other important and familiar options. And a few words about the battery. The battery is used Li-Ion, with a capacity of 3220 mAh and additional functions of fast charging and optimal energy saving.

All of the above is only part of what the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 knows and can do. This high-tech device combines the functions of a mobile phone, an excellent camera, a notebook, a personal doctor, a trainer, a healthy eating consultant, a business partner and an entertainment buddy. . Undoubtedly, this is one of the most advanced devices of the new generation of Samsung mobile technology.

Technical capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo smartphone

While most people's attention is currently focused on the flagship smartphones Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, this Korean manufacturer is preparing to release another device. We are talking about a simplified model of the Samsung Galaxy S5, which, by the way, was released a year earlier.

So, according to the SamMobile resource, Samsung is working on the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo smartphone (code SM-G903F). This model will receive a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The main distinguishing feature is the new 64-bit platform called Exynos 7580. Official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition smartphone

Last week, information appeared on the Internet that Samsung was preparing a special version of its smartphone Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition. And the other day the manufacturer officially presented a new product, which is made in the style of the comic book hero “Iron Man”. The source notes that the release of this smart phone model is associated with the release of a new series of adventures.

The internal “filling” of the device corresponds to the base model of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, but the appearance of the smartphone differs significantly from the standard model. Thus, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition has a red and gold design. On the back panel there is an image of Iron Man's helmet.

Another distinctive feature of the new product is a slightly expanded scope of delivery. The device comes in special packaging, and inside you can find a transparent case that acts as a protective panel, as well as a wireless charger that has a similar design.

Currently, the price of the smartphone is not indicated; it will probably be released on May 27. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition is expected to hit store shelves in South Korea on this day. The device will be available in China and Hong Kong in June. But there is no information regarding the global release of the smartphone yet.

More than a year ago, a player from Samsung, model P2, appeared on the shelves of Russian stores. Thanks to high-quality and thoughtful implementation, as well as, importantly, active user support with new firmware, which, contrary to custom, not only corrected the bugs found, but also added new functions and improved ergonomics, this device gained popularity.

During the time that new firmware was released for it, all sorts of errors were corrected, and the player was brought to almost perfection. But what next? After all, we need to release new models, the P2 has already begun to become boring to the public. The company did not keep itself waiting too long, and in February of this year released a new model, Samsung P3. This is what we will talk about today.

It just so happened that a full-scale review of the P2 model was not published on the pages of iXBT. And it just so happened that two devices, P2 and P3, fell into my hands almost simultaneously. And since the old model is still on sale, and at a lower price than the new one, it would be advisable to base today’s review on the principle of comparison. This way, you can evaluate whether the innovations are worth paying a little extra for, and if not, you can buy P2 before it disappears from the shelves.

Samsung's policy towards top models cannot but rejoice. First, a “raw” model is released in some places, then the errors found are corrected and some new functions are added. This was the case with P2, this was and is the case with the model, and this will most likely be the case with P3. The new product undoubtedly differs from its progenitor, not only in terms of software functions, but also in terms of hardware solutions.

Frame

As for the sizes, both visually and after comparing the dimensions “by numbers”, the players turned out to be almost identical in both thickness and width. But P3 is slightly longer in length than P2.

The body of the old model looked like it was made of plastic, but in fact its back part was still metal, painted black, white or cherry. P3 is clearly metal, this is not hidden, but rather exposed. The back wall is striped with grooves, which are designed to make scratches less noticeable. This move was also used in the recently reviewed one, but in P3 the grooves are deeper, stronger and scratch resistant. But, by the way, dirt constantly accumulates in them.

The front part is occupied by a screen, which we will talk about in more detail later. All mechanical buttons, unlike P2, are located on the top end. There is also a speaker one of the innovations of the model. Basically, all control, as before, takes place using the touch screen, but one of the most frequently used controls - the volume control buttons - was also decided to be made mechanical, in addition to the inconveniently implemented ability to adjust the volume using the touch screen.

This was also the case in P2, although these buttons were located not on the top end, but on the left. In principle, both options are convenient. Noticeable was the absence of a mechanical Play button, with which in the predecessor a pause was set, as well as the player was turned on and off. Also in the P3 you can’t find the familiar Hold slider, which is used to set the lock of buttons and the display. In P3, all this is organized slightly differently. The mechanical Play button is not present at all, and, looking ahead a little, I will say that instead of this, when you are in almost any player menu, you can call up a sliding panel that will allow you not only to pause, but also to rewind within the track, and also switch between tracks forward/backward. There was no such option in P2; you could only set a pause by pressing a mechanical button on the body, and to switch between tracks you had to enter the playback window. But the P3 option also has its downsides: you won’t be able to blindly pause the player without taking it out of your pocket; you’ll have to call up that very pop-up panel.

We're a little distracted, let's continue about the buttons. I said that the Hold slider is missing, but what about without locking the touch display? Of course, no, and here too there is a slight change. The locking function is combined with the on/off button. As you might have guessed, the unit is turned on/off with short presses, and on/off with long presses.

One of the important details is the ability to press Hold to block not all controls, but only the screen. Thus, in P3 you can blindly adjust the volume, as well as turn the player on/off. In P2, this feature is added to the inclusion of a blind pause, thanks to the presence of a mechanical button.

And, of course, on the case there is a jack for cable and headphones. The second is standard Samsung isn’t playing any tricks here (a hint at the new iPod Shuffle ;)

But the cable socket for connecting to a computer was not quite standard, and remains so. This modification came from the T9 player, and, apparently, is not going anywhere in the near future. I would like to note that in the P2 the cable and headphone jacks are located at a considerable distance from each other, which made it possible to connect the player to the computer without removing the headphones. In P3, in fact, like in Q1, the sockets are located nearby, and connecting the cable will not be a problem, but to disconnect, you will have to pull the headphones out of the socket.

Screen

We smoothly move to the screen. Both players have a 3” diagonal screen with a resolution of 480*272 pixels. “According to the numbers,” P2 could display 65,000 colors, P3 16.7 million. To be honest, I didn’t notice much of a difference. It exists, but not big enough to speculate on these figures.

There have been other changes as well. The display itself is now somewhat recessed into the body. This does not cause any inconvenience, since the depth of this recession is very small (less than a millimeter), and the finger does not rest against any walls when moving. But many are afraid of the accumulation of dirt in the gaps, which, by the way, exist between the screen and the body. I don’t know, after a week of use it didn’t appear (exactly in these gaps), but the prerequisites still exist.

In P2, the screen was without walls, it was hidden under a monolithic transparent plastic. The new product uses tempered glass to protect the display, which is much more scratch-resistant than plastic. This is where these gaps come from.

The player uses a display with tactile feedback. It represents the vibration of the case when you touch the screen. It vibrates differently during different actions: when you select an item, it trembles slightly, and when you scroll through lists, it clicks, which creates an interesting effect. Among other things, the player is capable of vibrating in time with low frequencies when playing music, as well as when watching movies. The function is interesting, but it is unlikely to have a positive effect on battery life.

As for the screen sensitivity. The latest firmware, according to the manufacturer, improves display response by 30 percent compared to the original firmware. The player came to me immediately with the latest version, so I don’t know what it was like before, but I can tell you what it is like now. I would like to immediately note that the reaction of P2 seems more adequate. The percentage of failures of the P3 is much higher, but by studying all the ins and outs, you can learn to control the player with fewer inaccuracies. Maybe someone will disagree with me, but the fact remains that when you pick up P2, you immediately notice the correct reaction, while P3 sometimes makes you suffer. There are rumors that the situation with the release of new firmware will change for the better.

UPD In firmware version 2.2, the screen sensitivity has become more adequate, using the player has become more pleasant :)

Viewing angles are good for both models. Often in players, when viewed from one of the four angles, the colors are especially distorted. Both P2 and P3 do not have this problem. Of course, it would be much nicer if an OLED screen was used, but that’s okay.

By the way, unlike P2, the new product has one more touch area: you can see it under the display. It is designed to control the volume in video mode, in music playback mode it is used to switch between tracks, and also in all other functions, by moving your finger on it, as I mentioned earlier, you can call up the control panel for the audio player (or radio, depending on what function was included). A very convenient thing when you look at photos or read a book while listening to music - you can control the music player without being distracted from the book or photo.

Headphones

Already included in the package of the recently reviewed player were headphones (model YA-EP450), which could be used every day if sound quality is not super critical for you. The P3 comes with headphones, the model of which, unfortunately, is unknown to me and is not widely available. They are much better than the EP450, the sound is rich, the high frequencies are pleasant, the low frequencies are present in not the worst performance. Overall, there's a good chance you'll like them.

I liked the wire; it is soft and does not freeze in the cold, as happens with many models. I liked the EP450 because by their shape it was possible to unmistakably determine whether the right or left earphone was in the hand. The complete “ears” of the P3 are exactly the same, and the inscriptions “L” and “R” are very small, so you need to look at the tips before putting them on. Well, or make some kind of relief or color mark on one “ear” yourself.

Speaker

The speaker in the player is very small, and accordingly, its capabilities are limited. It is suitable for use as an alarm clock. And, in principle, you can listen to music, but you shouldn’t count on special quality. The sound quality is certainly worse than in, or the same, but the presence of a loudspeaker is already a plus for the player.

One inconvenience often encountered in players with speakers is that when you remove the headphones, the sound is immediately output to the loudspeaker. In P3 this can be avoided with appropriate settings.

Menu design

What are we used to seeing usually in players? The icon matrix, which in the worst case is always the same, in the best case changes to an alternative menu view (in the form of a list, for example). In P2 there were already steps towards creating a more or less interactive menu: in addition to the standard matrix of icons, two more views were available “Space” and “Cover”. In the first case, as you moved your finger across the screen, the icons came closer, moved away and disappeared, like planets moving in space (I’ve never been in space, judging by pictures from cartoons and games :). In the “Cover” mode, three icons were displayed at the bottom of the screen, which were replaced by others when you moved your finger across the screen. In P3 they approached the arrangement of the main menu basically differently.

The menu itself consists of three parts. You can switch between them by moving your finger across the screen in the required direction. Moreover, you choose what will be on each of the three “screens” of the menu yourself. In addition to icons of various applications, other elements may be present on the screen - widgets. This word is already familiar to many, I think. Their essence is almost the same as in other areas that use the principle of these same widgets: on the screen next to the icons or above them there are various elements time in different countries, various interactive gizmos that do not carry a functional load, “notes”, calendars and other. Moreover, in P3 they can be located not only on a specific screen, but also on the border between them. When you switch to an adjacent display, you will see the entire widget, and if necessary, you can stop and look at it, then continue moving between parts of the menu.

When you are not in the main menu, but in some function, then by moving your finger from top to bottom from the top of the display, a menu is called up, with which you can quickly go to the main menu, turn on/off the speaker, turn on Bluetooth, and also, without resorting to to the mechanical button, lock the device. Personally, I didn’t use this feature when using it, but someone will certainly like its presence.

Music player

With small steps we are approaching one of the most important parts of the review. To begin with, it is worth noting that the player breaks music into categories based on information from tags. Like many Samsung players, the P3 allows you to view content in its pure form, in folders/subfolders, just as you saved it to memory. Moreover, this is done both from the player itself, where only music is shown, and in the general file browser, where all files in memory are displayed.

Next about formats. The player supports all the formats that P2 also supported, these are MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC plus WAV and the lossless compression format FLAC, very popular among music lovers. Quite an impressive list that will satisfy both the average and demanding user. Of course, tags are also supported; there were no problems with displaying various encodings (even in the first versions of the firmware, which is good news).

The music player menu is similar to P2. This is a list of categories , such as Now playing, Albums, Artist, Songs, Genres, Playlists, Recorded files, File browser.

If the list is too long, you can scroll through it either by quickly moving your finger up/down or using the scroll bar. There are differences from the implementation of these points in P2. For example, in P3 you can press and drag on the screen with your finger, thereby scrolling. It was impossible to do this in P2. The scrollbar has also undergone changes. Now, when you touch it, it thickens, thus helping the user not to lose sight of it and not be afraid that he is pressing in the wrong place. It was very inconvenient to use it in P2. In P3 things have moved forward, it has become more convenient, but still not quite “the same”. When you drag it, it jumps frantically, and it’s not really clear where you are now. If this is fixed in subsequent firmware, it will be very good, because now the strip is implemented crudely.

In P2, to select the desired track you need to click on it twice, in P3 once is enough. The reason for this difference has emerged. The fact is that by moving through the contents of categories or folders, songs can be added to playlists. In P2 they could only be added one at a time, after selecting the one you need. In P3, you first check off the necessary tracks, and then add them all at once to the playlist. Lists can be created and edited using a proprietary program. As was the case in P2, playlists created on a computer cannot be edited using the player; for this there are 5 empty lists prepared.

The new product was decorated with the ability to “flip through” the covers. After selecting a performer, a location opens where they are displayed superimposed on one another and moving into perspective. You can scroll through them by moving your finger left and right. This option is fine for “playing around”; it’s much more convenient to configure the display of albums in the form of a list. It can be of two types: with a large or with a small album cover next to each album title. It looks very attractive.

The playback window itself is arranged differently than in P2. The progress bar and menu and return icons are not visible in normal mode; to call them you need to touch the screen. But regardless of the type of visualization, the name of the artist, the name of the album and the composition are always displayed on the screen.

In P2, for this it was necessary to turn off visualization, instead of which this information was displayed. But I want to note that an interesting feature was implemented in P2: by double-clicking, all icons disappeared from the screen, and playback seemed to expand to full screen. This eliminated the need to set a lock, and by moving your finger across the screen “blindly” you could switch between compositions. If you look closely, by hiding the icons in P3 they made an analogue of this same full-screen spread in P2, only now you don’t need to perform additional actions for this. Often there is no need to block the player, since the screen only responds to “human” touches. On the P3, swiping your finger right or left on the screen can also switch between tracks.

In the context menu called up when playing music, you can configure the playback mode, its speed, add the current track for an alarm signal, and add it to a playlist. The equalizer settings also open from there. The player uses a new version of the DNSe “improver”, and you can use many ready-made presets or create your own. This can be done using the EmoDio program, as well as on the player itself. The settings include a regular seven-band equalizer, but that’s not all there is to it – there are also 3D&Bass, Concerert hall and Clarity tabs. By combining these parameters, you can do a variety of things with sound.

The sound of the player is subjectively quite decent, of course, a little capricious, like all Samsungs (capricious in a good way). It is aurally identical to the sound in P2 with DNSe and conventional equalizers disabled. The results of objective testing performed using the RMAA6 program are as always we provide:

For audiobook lovers

In this regard, the player is almost ideal, if not for one, or rather even two, “buts”. Firstly, there is no way to make bookmarks, and secondly, like all other modern models, playback stops after playing the last track from the folder. And so it’s just a fairy tale for audiobooks: the rewinding is progressive, and, importantly, by touching the progress bar with your fingers, you can immediately find yourself in the desired place in the track. If you don’t listen to anything other than audiobooks, then the lack of bookmarks is, in principle, no threat to you - the player remembers the location of the track where it turned off, and immediately returns to it when turned on.

Radio

The radio is of standard quality, the same as in the P2. Auto search is supported with recording of the first 30 found radio stations into memory. In both models, circles with the numbers of found stations, which are grouped in groups of 6, can be displayed on the screen. You can scroll through them using the "Right" and "Left" buttons. Quite a convenient thing that eliminates the need to either scroll through all the stations in a row, or go somewhere for a complete list. In P2, the radio can be muted by pressing the mechanical Play button. In P3, as I have already mentioned several times, this button is not present, but there is an area near the FM frequency display that, when pressed, mutes the radio.

There is a recording option; there is a special button on the screen for this, which is very convenient. Recording is in MP3 format with a bitrate of 128 Kbps, and these parameters cannot be configured. It is possible to select the sensitivity of the receiver, as well as the region. It’s a pity that the list of regions does not include Japan, where the range starts at 75 and not 85 MHz.

As for RDS, this function has not yet been officially announced. In P2, with the help of some “shamanism,” users learned to enable this function, but nothing has been heard about P3 yet. Perhaps it will be implemented in some firmware. Although in Russia RDS is not used to its full potential, sometimes it can help determine at least the name of the station.

Video player

This chapter certainly deserves your attention. In the new product, the manufacturer has greatly expanded support for codecs, and now supports AVI files compressed with DivX and XviD codecs in a resolution no higher than SVGA, i.e. 800*600 pixels. Plus, WMV and H.264 codecs are supported. Theoretically, we are seeing a very good trend: well-known brands have finally begun to build in support for playing “heavy” files without the need to first convert them. Smaller players have done this before.

It should be noted that “heavy” films (in high resolutions) are not played very smoothly. There is noticeable stuttering in dynamic scenes. In the case of files compressed with the MPEG-4 codec with a resolution equal to the screen resolution - 480x272 pixels - the picture is much better. In this case, the video plays smoothly (if the video was encoded at a frequency of more than 20 frames per second, of course).

Let's now talk about the capabilities of the video player itself. When opening the roller, the orientation changes to horizontal. The video expands to full screen, and to call the icons you need to “tap” once on the display. A progress bar will also appear on the screen, by clicking anywhere on which you can immediately move to the corresponding moment in the film. The video can be displayed on the screen in scale with the aspect ratio or without them, that is, it unfolds completely on the entire screen. A brightness setting is available, which works separately from the general settings of the player - that is, it only affects video, and the brightness in other functions, set in the general settings of the player, does not change. You can put one bookmark for each file. Plus, for each video, the position at which it was closed is remembered, and the next time it is opened, playback begins from there. You can do some fun things using the video playback speed up/down function. Moreover, when the speed increases, voices do not squeak, but the rate of speech simply increases.

There are other possibilities as well. For example, you can take screenshots from video files. The latest firmware at the time of testing also included a new function - the so-called “Mosaic Search”. When you click on the screen while a movie is playing, the file is scanned and the screen is divided into 16, 32 or 64 parts with frames from the movie, from which you can recognize the episode and quickly move to it. This action can also be called from the menu. In my opinion, it would be better if the developers left only the last method - the fact is that you often accidentally “tap” on the screen, and the function starts when you don’t need it at all. After this, you have to re-search for the moment at which the accidentally called function began its work. Some people will like this feature, but personally I think it’s unnecessary and there is a progress bar + touch screen, which together allow you to quickly move around the video. And rewinding inside the film, by the way, is progressive the longer you press the button, the faster it rewinds.

View pictures

The P2 only supported standard JPEG. The new model supports two more formats: PNG and BMP. When trying to open a PNG, the player pauses for quite a long time, but eventually opens the file. In general, the expansion of the list of supported formats is still a plus, although small and not very noticeable (and for some, perhaps very noticeable). GIF is not supported; I once felt the lack of support for it when I threw a travel map in this format into the player, and then could not open it.

The viewer itself is implemented in a fairly familiar way. First, a mosaic of preview images opens, from which you can guess the contents of the picture. Photos open by touching this preview. The image immediately expands to full screen; by touching it you can call up the icons. You can use translucent arrows to scroll through photos, although this can also be done by quickly moving your finger in the desired direction. Photo magnification is supported by 4 times, after which you can move around the areas of the picture. There are no slowdowns in this case. Any picture can be made the background for the menu. Moreover, in the main menu it will be opaque, but to display it in various functions, the level of transparency can be set. Unfortunately, you cannot view information about the picture - neither the format, nor the original resolution, nor the shooting date.

Reader

Compared to P2, nothing has changed in the new model in terms of support for text files. Only one standard format is supported - TXT, and it is unlikely that we will soon see support for other formats in players, at least the same FB2. In any case, there have been no precedents so far. The player only understands Unicode and ANSI encodings. It won’t be difficult to transfer any TXT file into them, so you shouldn’t be too upset about this.

There are settings for the text display function, but they are not very rich. You can change the font size, three variations are supported. There are seven sets of “text color + background color”, which are quite enough. You can read both with a horizontal and vertical screen position. You can only set one bookmark for each text file, but that’s good. Of course, the developers did not forget to make a full-screen mode. But I personally didn’t like it either: the progress bar still remains, and the space at the top is empty. The text is aligned to the left, there is, of course, no word wrapping, and thus there are often large empty areas near the right edge of the screen. Thus, in terms of displaying text files, no progress is visible, but the basic capabilities are present.

Dictaphone

Also no differences with its predecessor. There is a record button on the screen; when pressed, recording is turned on; when stop is pressed, is turned off, and the user is prompted to listen to the recorded file. That's all. It is stored in MP3 format with a bitrate of 128 Kbps, and these parameters cannot be configured or changed.

I liked the recorder because the sound does not “fall off” much when recording low frequencies close up, and in general the recording quality is high, the sound is clear and pleasant. I recorded a guitar with it, and I really liked the result.

Bluetooth

After the former flagships were equipped with this function, it would be completely wrong not to provide it to the P3. They supplied it, and with the latest version 2.1. In P2, Bluetooth capabilities expanded with the release of new firmware, but in P3 everything works immediately.

And this, firstly, is the ability to connect wireless stereo headphones. Unfortunately, at the time of testing there were none available, so you’ll have to take the manufacturer’s word for it. I tried to connect an old Motorola HS805 Bluetooth headset to the player, the player refused to work with it, and I did the right thing - it’s completely useless.

The ability of the player to work as a headset for a mobile phone has not gone away. By “pairing” two devices, you can receive calls using the player. When a call comes in, the music stops; you should speak into the microphone hole on the player body. Moreover, you can both receive calls and dial a number directly from the player. The function is quite interesting, but people on the other end of the line complain about worse quality than when talking on the phone. It may be suitable for those who cannot hear the phone ringing while listening to music. After turning off the player, the capabilities of the phone are activated, and you can talk on it without bothering people with poor hearing.

Of course, the player can also exchange files with various devices, such as a mobile phone or computer. The last option seems stupid, because the speed will in any case be inferior to a cable connection, but it may well help on the road if you have a laptop.

As you can see, in comparison with P2, no functional innovations were made, with the exception of the introduction of a newer version of Bluetooth 2.1, compared to 2.0 in P2.

Additional functions

Since the player has a number of additional features, it would be wrong not to describe them, but each of them hardly deserves a separate chapter, so I will combine their description into one section.

Games. There are only seven of them: sudoku, all kinds of balls, puzzles, and so on. All of them are not very interesting, to be honest. I think the game where you have to pop bubbles from packaging bags deserves special attention. Additional intrigue comes from the pushpins along the way :)

Alarm. Considering the presence of a built-in speaker, this function becomes interesting. Its functionality is the same as that of P2. Either any of your melodies or a standard one can be used as a signal. While the alarm clock is running, there is another one on the screen next to the button to turn it off, with the cheerful name “Snooze”, by clicking on which you can delay the alarm for 3, 5 or 10 minutes, depending on the settings. Of course, you can also set up a call schedule: one-time, daily, Monday to Friday, Monday to Saturday, Saturday to Sunday.

Calculator. It is not endowed with any special functions - it is standard, it can count percentages, you can enter negative numbers, and, by the way, there is no “M” memory button.

Subway map. This function is also available in both P2 and Q1. In the latter, it was terribly slow and it was extremely uncomfortable to use. Here everything works quite quickly. The world map is divided into three zones: America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. There are not very many cities, you cannot install additional ones. Among the Russian ones there are Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Drawing. It was added in firmware 2.7. You can draw an image from scratch or color any picture. This function is present, in my opinion, solely as entertainment for 5 minutes, because it is unlikely that you will be able to draw anything intelligible on the screen with your finger. It didn’t work out for your humble servant, at least :)

Flash player. I won’t say anything here, because it is still very raw. Happy Tree Friends is played, for some reason, without sound (why watch them without sound? :). The games couldn't be made to work. If they bring it to fruition, it will be very cool.

Computer connection

As already mentioned, the player is defined by the system as a removable media, so there are no restrictions on operating systems and the use of file managers. The speed when copying many large files into the device’s memory does not rise above 4 MB/sec, when copying small ones it reaches 5 MB/sec, and does not rise higher. The result, in principle, is normal, but given the price and the general class of this device, I want a lot more.

Battery

The manufacturer claims 30 hours of music playback or 5 hours of video playback on a single battery charge. During testing, the player more than played more than 30 hours of music of varying quality and different formats, but it should be taken into account that the screen was not used during all this time. The video played for about 5 hours, and during testing we used one “heavy file” in a resolution of 800*600, compressed with the DivX codec, and a couple of “light” ones, MPEG-4 in a resolution of 480x272. Screen brightness during video testing was at an average level. With this value, it is quite comfortable to watch videos in the dark. In a bright room, the brightness will have to be turned up closer to maximum, which will affect the battery life.

Prices

The player is available in two colors - black and silver. in Moscow for models with different amounts of memory, relevant at the time you read this article, you can find out from the table:
