Huawei p10 lite what processor. Review of the Huawei P10 Lite smartphone - flagship capabilities at an affordable price. Communications and interfaces

Samsung really has quite a few lines that are not limited to the flagship Galaxy S and Note. Koreans also annually present the J, A, C model ranges, which are comfortably located in the budget and middle class. True, until this year, the Samsung Galaxy J did not impress us at all - typical budget phones with an inflated price. The situation has changed. The Korean manufacturer began to move inexpensive solutions towards the flagship segment, abandoning removable covers and plastic. Samsung Galaxy J has become noticeably prettier, so it can guarantee good sales for the manufacturer. But is everything so perfect? To find out, we bring to your attention a review of the Samsung Galaxy J5 with an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages, price and reviews of the smartphone.

Contents of delivery

For review, the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017), like its brothers, arrived in a simple blue box, on which we only have the name of the smartphone. Identical equipment:

  • power adapter;
  • microUSB cable;
  • documentation;
  • inexpensive headset.

Nothing new or unusual. All according to the traditions of the lower segment.

Appearance

As we have already noted, Samsung is moving away from plastic in even its cheapest smartphones towards more noble materials. In the budget segment, metal with thin plastic inserts is now actively used. Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) repeats the features - an all-metal body with pronounced plastic inserts. It seems that the Korean manufacturer itself did not want to hide them, as other companies do. It turned out, to be honest, great. The design makes the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) stand out from other smartphones, which is also emphasized by user reviews.

The new product is assembled very well. In the hands of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) it feels like a monolithic block with rounded edges that do not cut into the palm, causing discomfort. The smartphone is a little wider and taller, but at the same time thinner by a couple of millimeters. In fact, the difference is insignificant, but it is worth noting. The weight of the Galaxy J5 (2017) SM J530F is 160 grams. According to this indicator, it is also slightly heavier than the younger model, but lighter than the older one. There are plenty of color options, which also somewhat distinguishes the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) from similar smartphones presented in gold and silver, which is already boring.

In terms of the arrangement of the elements, the Galaxy J5 is exactly the same as the J3 or J7. On the front, in addition to the screen, in the lower part we have the usual Samsung hardware “Home” button, supplemented by a pair of touch buttons. Honestly, I always liked mechanical keys, but it’s not clear why not give up a couple of these touch buttons, linking all actions to Home? We see a similar design in both Meizu and , we really like the multifunctional “Home” button in the line, which we have already examined. For the guest of today's review, the button also serves as a fingerprint scanner, the presence of which is not surprising at the price of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017). By the way, it does not have a fingerprint sensor.

At the top, everything is classic. A slot for the earpiece, a noticeable sensor window, a front camera and, as surprising as it may sound, a flash. In general, Samsung in its J line focuses on the selfie capabilities of its cameras, but more on that later. We immediately see the Samsung logo, which was removed from the logo, but in the company’s inexpensive smartphones, apparently, we will still have to admire it.

We move to the top end and, apart from plastic inserts, we find nothing. All interfaces are located at the bottom - a microphone, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and microUSB. It’s a little disappointing that Samsung didn’t show USB-C in the J line this year. We hope the situation will improve in 2018. The location of the navigation buttons is standard for a Korean manufacturer: on the right is the power button, on the left are separated volume keys (last year the Galaxy J had a rocker). The main speaker moved to the right side, taking a place just above the on/off button.

On the left, in my opinion, is one of the most pleasant features of the new Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) - a pair of slots. Here we have one of the few non-separable smartphones that can accept two SIM cards and microSD at the same time. Very, very convenient. Despite the fact that today you can buy many other solutions more profitable than the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017), this, at first glance, insignificant feature, is captivating.

Well, on the back we have a slightly protruding area with one camera and flash, as well as the typical Samsung logo.

What else can you add? For its price, the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) looks very decent. The smartphone is neat, stylish, and quite suitable even for a higher class. Even reviews of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) from those who have already used the new product confirm that the Koreans are doing great this year. In general, we agree. Another thing is that for the price of the Galaxy J5 (2017) you can buy a pair of all-metal smartphones from China.

Screen

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) is equipped with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. I'm happy and sad about the resolution. It’s clear that this is a budget smartphone, but it’s not cheap enough to get HD. In this price segment, among solutions from Chinese manufacturers, it is difficult to find anything lower than FullHD. Maybe that’s why we expect something similar from the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017). It is worth noting that it has a 5-inch display with the same resolution, while the Galaxy J7 has 5.5 inches with FullHD.

Overall, the screen of the Galaxy J5 (2017) is not bad. It is quite bright, has rich colors, and is quite sensitive. Covered with scratch-resistant glass to which . The smartphone screen supports up to 5 simultaneous touches. The only thing we can write down as a minus is the resolution. In the Galaxy J5 we have a density of 282 ppi, which is the worst indicator in the line (even the J3 is slightly higher due to the smaller diagonal). Therefore, individual pixels can be seen, but the picture is not eye-catching.

Despite the HD and low pixel density, I liked the screen. It's good indoors, not bad outdoors, and has automatic brightness control. But, whatever one may say, at the price of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017), I still want to see FullHD - with a FullHD screen from Sharp you can buy it for 8,000 rubles, which is an order of magnitude cheaper.

Performance

On board we have a mid-budget Exynos 7870 processor, represented by an 8-core architecture. The same chipset was at the forefront of the hardware platform in last year's Samsung Galaxy J7. The Exynos 7870 is vastly superior to the quad-core Snapdragon found in the Galaxy J5 (2016). In terms of its characteristics, the chip is comparable to the MediaTek 6750, which is installed in a huge number of inexpensive smartphones (the same). However, in the case of Exynos we have a more energy efficient technical process. In terms of performance, the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) chip is quite good. The Mali-T830 helps him launch games.

The Samsung smartphone comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory. In the latter case, we can expand the memory using microSD cards up to 128 GB, fortunately, we do not have to sacrifice a SIM card. There is also a 3+32GB version of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017), but it is not aimed at the European market.

The smartphone copes with games perfectly, of course, and there are no problems with everyday tasks. Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) scores about 45,000 points in Antutu.

Communications and sound

The smartphone works with nano SIM cards. GSM, UMTS, and LTE networks are supported. Since the smartphone is officially presented on our market, there are no problems with communication. A very decent set of wireless interfaces. In addition to the usual Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1, the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) received ANT+ and, which is good news, NFC. In terms of the set of interfaces, the smartphone is comparable to its older brother, but the J3 did not receive technology for contactless payment.

Three systems are available for navigation: GPS, GLONASS and Chinese Beidu. The smartphone works with satellites without problems. The Galaxy J5 (2017) is in complete order with sound. The main speaker is located on the right side, it is really loud, you can even hear a semblance of bass. However, it is inferior in clarity to more expensive competitors.

operating system

What else pleased us with the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) in the review was the proprietary Experience 8.1 shell installed on top of Android Nougat. By the way, it is used on all the company’s smartphones this year. What's good about her? First of all, it looks very cool. These are not eye-catching animations or bright icons, but a pleasant interface that is simply convenient to work with. Secondly, the shell is smoother than TouchWiz. Finally, thirdly, many new features have appeared that allow you to customize the system according to your wishes.

In our opinion, the new Samsung offers one of the most convenient shells of recent times. It is simple, clear and at the same time beautiful. In Experience 8.1, the Koreans managed to hide many of the rough edges of pure Android, creating an almost perfect user interface.

Cameras

We praised the cameras and will do the same in today’s review of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017). In terms of photo capabilities, the world-class company has always done well, but we did not imagine that everything would be so worthy in the case of budget solutions. The main camera of the smartphone is a 13-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture. The photos come out, if not excellent, then of very decent quality. During the day it’s almost ideal, in the evening it’s worse, but you can see something. There is autofocus and other common “goodies” of modern cameras. The video is recorded in FullHD resolution, quite good quality.

For the price of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017), in fact, it is not so easy to find a smartphone that will demonstrate at least the same level of pictures. Yes, they are even available on flagship hardware (if we consider the offerings of Chinese online stores), but in terms of photography they are on par or inferior, and look better in rare cases. The Snapdragon 820 offers the same, but not high-quality photos.

The front camera is also 13 MP, but with a more modest aperture – f/1.9. It is clear that it is inferior in quality to the main camera, but overall the pictures are very good. There is a flash that will illuminate the face for those who like self-portraits.

In general, during the review of the Galaxy J5 (2017), we were once again convinced that the Korean guys know a lot about high-quality cameras. In its price segment, a smartphone can easily boast of all these apertures and modes.

Autonomy

To be honest, we are tired of praising the Galaxy J5 (2017). However, you won’t be able to criticize a smartphone for its autonomy. The manufacturer claims a 3000 mAh battery - on paper this is clearly not a number to brag about. True, the smartphone once again surprises in its operation. Apparently, the rejection of the FullHD screen and the updated energy-efficient processor have an effect. If you don’t overload the Galaxy J5 (2017), you can count on 2-3 days of battery life, which, you see, is very good.

In terms of autonomy, the J5 has not become any better than its predecessor from last year, but let's not forget that the smartphone's performance has increased significantly. Galaxy J5 (2017) will last for more than 9 hours when watching online videos; in games you can count on about 6 hours.

Despite the fact that Samsung positions the Galaxy J5 (2017) as an inexpensive smartphone, its price is far from being that budget-friendly. The recommended cost for domestic stores is almost 18,000 rubles.

Can Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) buy on Aliexpress, and now it is offered for only 13,500 with delivery from a Russian warehouse

Which we recently talked about.

Bottom line

What review of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) would we like to leave at the end of the review? The smartphone is generally good. The new product has everything that the average user needs in 2017. Finally, we are pleased with the design of inexpensive Samsung smartphones, which have abandoned plastic, while retaining 3 slots for SIM and microSD. Very good cameras. The only serious drawback of the Galaxy J5 (2017) is the price. Seeing a price tag of 18,000 rubles, a user who knows what Aliexpress is expects to see FullHD, at least 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, and a processor no weaker than Snapdragon 625. Do we advise you to buy a Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017)? Yes, if you are directly attracted to a smartphone. But it makes sense to wait a month or two when it becomes a little cheaper.

Huawei P10 lite is a compact device with a lot of features. The phone body contains a camera and a large 5.2-inch display. Now a phone from Huawei from a series of “simple” phones is comparable to “average” models on the market from other manufacturers. Huawei P10 lite turned out to be very good, thanks to such a carefully equipped model. With such characteristics, competitors would call the smartphone a full-fledged line, and not a “light” one. And the Huawei P10 lite smartphone is inexpensive and is constantly getting cheaper.

Huawei P10 lite has an attractive appearance. Externally, the smartphone is similar to its full-fledged relative “Huawei P10”. The location of the buttons remains unchanged. The speaker and camera are at the top. And the home button of the Huawei P10 lite is located on the back. Now in place of the button there is the inscription “Huawei”.

The front part consists of 80% display. The margin from the edges is 3.5 mm on the sides, on the top – 14 mm, and on the bottom – 15 mm. The frame is made of metal polished at the corners. The smartphone body has a rectangular shape and smooth corners.

The model has enough color variations, or more precisely, there are 4 different colors: White, blue, black and gold. According to statements, the main body consists of glass and this should not affect the strength of the smartphone in any way. The back cover of the smartphone is protected and decorated with a backing that gives a mirror effect. The length of the phone is 14.7 cm and the width is 7.2 cm.

The thickness of the smartphone is average, and not much different from its competitors - 0.7 cm. The phone feels great in the hand. The power button and volume rockers are located on the left side of the frame. The coating is oleophobic, so the phone quickly gets dirty with fingerprints. In addition to the power button and volume rocker, there is also a lock button on the left side of the frame. And the fingerprint scanner is located on the rear panel. The location of the scanner may seem inconvenient, but after several uses, it will become clear that the finger always falls into the recessed area of the lid and the sensor instantly recognizes the fingerprint.

On the right side of the frame there is a SIM card slot. This model has a mini jack 3.5 connector. Also located at the bottom is a charging connector and a speaker with a microphone.

Unfortunately, the connector is an old type (miscroUSB), when Type-C has been used on the market for a long time. And even Huawei itself installs it. The main camera is also located on the back side, just above the fingerprint scanner. On the front of the smartphone there is another speaker, but a conversational one and a selfie camera.

Design

This design from Huawei is not quite standard for Lite, but the general features and style are still visible. Previously, the appearance of devices was made to resemble flagships, but here the design is more similar to Honor products.

With such a nice design and beautiful appearance, it is extremely difficult to find a smartphone for 20,000 rubles. Thanks to its attractive appearance, Huawei P10 lite will not go unnoticed.

In the stylish body of the smartphone, the manufacturer managed to install one durable glass on each side, each of which is equal to 7 on the Mohs scale. But the scratches on the glass remain. And the oleophobic coating contributes to the rapid “contamination” of the smartphone on both sides.

On the back side under the glass there is a special film, due to which a cool reflection effect is formed.

Ergonomics

The ergonomics of the device are unprecedented: it fits comfortably in your hand, does not slip out, and you can reach any part of the screen with your thumb. A thickness of only 7.2 mm and a width of 72 mm, combined with a weight of 147 grams, give a light and pleasant feeling of a bargain.

The camera lens and flash are located on the rear panel, without protruding forward from the body. A little lower in the recessed area there is a fingerprint scanner. At the bottom of the frame there is a mini-jack, a microUSB connector and a speaker with a microphone.

The design of the device is not very different from the flagship Huawei P10

Display

Huawei P10 lite has an IPS display with 2.5-dimensional glass. The display width is 65 mm and the height is 116 mm. The diagonal is only 5.2 inches. The total width of the frame is 3 mm, at the top – 14 mm, and at the bottom – 15 mm. Screen resolution FullHD 1920*1080, with a pixel density of 424 ppi.

The screen of Huawei P10 lite is protected by durable glass. The screen colors are quite rich. Photos and pictures look rich. Black and white colors are within normal limits and do not stand out in any way. Color reproduction looks decent and is not inferior to the parameters of the older version of Huawei P10. Although, based on diagnostics, the color rendering indicator is only 86% sRGB.

The brightness is adjusted by the device automatically, due to the sensor’s response to lighting. Brightness can also be adjusted manually. When checked via AnTuTu, the diagnostics showed 11 simultaneous touches. Additionally, there is a built-in ability to set a mode to protect your eyesight, which saves you from eye fatigue.

The front part of the screen is made of a glass plate with an absolutely smooth surface. According to the manufacturer, such glass protects it from scratches and impacts. Anti-glare properties are average, but they perform even better than those of the Google Nexus 7.

By manually adjusting the brightness, it will not be possible to achieve a brightness value of more than 500 cd/m². This means that reading the text will be comfortable even in sunlight during the daytime. And indoors, you can independently reduce the brightness to the desired value. For each degree of ambient light, the user can set their own brightness values. As you can see, quality work was done on the display in the Huawei P10 Lite. Indeed, in any conditions, you will not be able to see any flickering of the display.

The viewing angle has a wide range. There are no significant color shifts, even with strong gaze deviations.

Equipment

Huawei P10 lite is delivered in a neat, small and interesting white box. The color of the box may vary depending on the color of the phone. On the top side is the HUAWEI DESIGN logo. On the front side there is the inscription “HUAWEI P10 Lite”.

The open box reveals two small cardboard compartments. Between them is a smartphone, in a vertical position (on its side). The first box, which is larger, contains a power adapter with a 2-amp output from the top, with support for fast charging. There is also a microUSB cable and stereo headphones with a microphone.

Everything is white and looks high quality. On the side of the box in a small pocket there is a clip for removing the SIM card slot. The second box contains the user manual and a transparent plastic phone case neatly packed in a bag.

Performance

The data obtained through the AnTuTu service promises stable operation of the device in the field of browsing, watching videos in FULL HD and 4K quality, and playing games that do not require powerful components. The amount of memory can be upgraded to 128 GB using an SD card.

Because Huawei P10 Lite was equipped with an updated 8-core Kirin 658 processor, computing power and performance should increase compared to previous models. This is noticeable in the operation of the device. It happens more smoothly and faster than in all previous phones in this series. Such differences are visible during everyday use, but in the benchmark the indicators are approximately equal.

With games, things are not as cool as we would like. The FHD format is a heavy thing for such a GPU. But basically, powerful and popular games today run fine.

Heating diagnostics revealed stable temperature indicators. The battery in the Huawei P10 Lite after 30 minutes in the StabilityTest utility warmed up by only 11 degrees Celsius. The body of the smartphone did not burn my fingers. In the case of Huawei P10 Lite, if we talk about heating, it’s only moderate.

4 gigabytes of RAM allows you to use the Huawei P10 Lite as a powerful laptop. Built-in memory of 32 GB will allow you to install the necessary programs on your smartphone, download movies, listen to music, etc. The GPU Mali-T830 graphics processor is capable of producing rich images.

Cameras

The selfie camera has an 8 MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture. There is no automatic focus, nor is there a flash. But different overlay effect and portrait overlay will help you customize your photo. There is even a simple but cool background blur mode. These software solutions are used by Chinese manufacturers for the main modules. The background is blurred not at the edges of the subject, but relative to the sharpness of the object in the center of the photo.

In general, the front camera of the Huawei P10 Lite takes very mediocre pictures. The detail is low, the picture is dark, the range of the matrix is narrow. There were expectations for better camera capabilities.

The front camera has a 12 MP module and f/2.2 aperture. Compared to the front camera, the main camera has focusing capabilities and a flash. On the finished photo, it is possible to change the focus of objects.

As usual, the Huawei interface has built-in post-processing modes for captured images. A large number of light filters and customizable frames.

Sharpness when shooting across the frame according to plans showed itself quite well. Based on all of the above, the module is borrowed from the Plus version. The camera copes with many subjects. There is virtually no noise in the photo, the detail is excellent, the picture is pleasant and there is no blur in the corners.

Photo

In photographs, the detail of objects at a distance is smoothed out smoothly and accurately. You can also get good shots in macro mode. During the day, the photos come out well. Detailing is carried out at the level.

Video

Huawei P10 lite can record video in Full HD format, without stabilization function. High-quality video is obtained only when the smartphone is in a stable position. The result is a very clear and well-drawn picture. Sound recording is done easily. The noise suppression system does a great job. Video frame rate 30 fps.

Front-camera

The front camera of Huawei P10 Lite has an 8-megapixel module and f/2.0. The wide angle lens can shoot up to 1920*1080. Built-in Portait mode improves photo quality. The Huawei P10 Lite has too much bokeh effect.

Sound and music playback quality

The sound of the device is quite good, to say the least. The smartphone has its own player. Simple and intuitive. There is only one speaker, but it sounds loud and high quality. Only at maximum volume there will be slight interference.

The headphones come with the phone and sound quality is above average. But this is only enough for listening to mp3 music. To listen to the FLAC format you will have to use a DAC.

Connection

The Huawei P10 Lite uses LTE Cat.6 support. This means that the data transfer speed can reach up to 300 Mbit/s. LTE, FDD and TDD. In Russia, such a device picks up the signal perfectly, and the quality of communication is also not suspicious.

In addition, the device operates in two WI-FI bands (5 and 2.4 Gigahertz). Full support for connecting devices via USB OTG. Built-in GPS models work with the Glonass system, so the location is determined quickly and accurately. The device also has NFC support.

In the system interface there is no option to select a specific SIM card for SMS in the settings. Just before sending a message. But data transfer can be configured in advance.

operating system

Huawei P10 Lite is equipped with Android 7.0 Nougat OS, wrapped in EMUI 5.1 shell. This launcher looks attractive and stylish. The design is constantly being improved and improved. A distinctive feature of the shell can be considered a high-quality translation into Russian. In this regard, there are absolutely no complaints. Among Chinese smartphones, such precision and accuracy in localization is difficult to find.

Most people like this shell because of its great functionality. Lots of fine settings, interesting parameters, widgets, visual themes, all sorts of tricks, like lowering the volume by shaking the phone, etc.

Among the capabilities of the shell, the “clone application” is also considered popular. Thanks to this function, the smartphone may be suitable for those who like to have multiple accounts in instant messengers or social networks. networks. With this function, you can communicate simultaneously from several accounts of the same social network or instant messenger.

EMUI acquired such huge functionality thanks to the close cooperation of Huawei and Google. The overall performance of the device, automatic charge distribution technology, improved performance and quality of network connection, and much more, are the fruit of close cooperation between the companies.

Autonomy

Thanks to the independent processor from Huawei, Kirin 658, the savings have a very good effect on the autonomy of the device. When watching a video from YouTube, the battery charge drops to zero in 8 hours, when using the navigator in 7.5 hours. The 3000 mAh battery capacity can last the device from morning to night in a standard scenario. Considering the intensity of a simple working day, most of the time the smartphone is used to view social networks, less energy is spent on instant messengers and on automatic synchronization of the device.

In general, 1 hour of YouTube, some music through wireless headphones and Internet surfing, a lot of surfing. In this scenario, the charge lasts for the whole day. But in the end there is only 10% left, no more. But the fast charging function can return the device to operation at any time. Charging the batteries to 50% takes no more than 40 minutes. At rest, a smartphone can live for more than 2 days.

Comparison with competitors

The Huawei P10 Lite phone, in comparison with its competitors, occupies an average position. Reducing the size of the battery and, accordingly, its volume was done in order to reduce the body size. Compared to the P10, the battery in the Lite version is reduced by 6%. But similar to the previous P9 and P9 Lite, the batteries were located at greater distances from each other.

So, this volume is quite enough. Which is confirmed when viewing the video in Full HD. The P10 Lite smartphone played movies for 10 hours. This is 35% larger than the P9 Lite.

Compared to other manufacturers in the price range, such as XIAOMI MI, MEIZU, HONOR 8 and XIAOMI REDMI PRO, the Huawei P10 Lite smartphone is competitive due to its low price of 16,000 rubles. Competitors of Huawei P10 lite also offer a good choice.

Final review

No controversial solutions were identified in the smartphone, with the exception of the use of microUSB in 2017. Looks beautiful and attractive. The screen produces a high-quality picture. The software is multifunctional, and the camera takes decent pictures. Low cost for such functions, a good option. Comparisons of Huawei P10 lite with other phone models show that low cost is important.

In other words, in quotation marks, such a smartphone can be called a “compact flagship.” According to general perception, the smartphone deserves 9/10 points.

The main flagship of the company, Huawei P10, has not yet reached us, but the younger modification has arrived - P10 Lite.

Huawei traditionally releases three versions of the main flagships of the “P” line at once. On February 27, 2017, Huawei P10 and P10 Plus were announced, and on March 17, the company introduced Huawei P10 Lite, for which we prepared a review.

Huawei P10 Lite price: 14,990 rubles in the online store shop.huawei.com. When purchasing a smartphone, the company will give a Huawei AP007 portable battery with a capacity of 13,000 mAh.

The tested sample arrived without any accessories, so it will not be evaluated. Note that when purchasing Huawei P10 Lite on the official website shop.huawei.ru, the kit includes a smartphone, a headset (3.5 mm), a charger, a USB cable, a tool for removing the SIM card tray and a short user manual.

Design and ergonomics

In recent years, Huawei has reached a qualitatively new level, and it is impossible to argue with that. We are talking about design, branded shell and performance.

Huawei P10 Lite is available in three body colors: silver, champagne and dark blue. At the time of writing the review, only the golden version (champagne) was available in the manufacturer’s official store, and it arrived to us for testing.

The design of the new product has much in common with Honor 8, which we reviewed six months ago. The display diagonal, form factor, case materials and even tactile sensations are the same, but there are still some differences.

The front panel of the smartphone is made in the same color as the entire body, in our case - golden. The navigation buttons are traditionally touch-sensitive and located on the screen, with the company logo underneath it.

Above the screen in the center there is a speaker grille, to the left there are two black dots: a proximity/light sensor and a front camera.

Note that the display is protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 with an excellent oleophobic coating that resists streaks and smudges well. The tactile sensations from using the screen are positive; the finger glides perfectly over the surface.

The design of the rear of the device is largely borrowed from: it also uses glass that shimmers beautifully in the sun, the arrangement of the elements is identical.

However, there are differences. Firstly, the P10 Lite uses a standard camera module, next to which there is a flash. Secondly, the device under test has a square-shaped fingerprint scanner, but with rounded corners.

The power and volume buttons are located on the right side in the place where most users are accustomed to seeing them. They press easily and pleasantly, do not wobble or cause discomfort. The power button is embossed, the volume button is smooth.

A little above the buttons you can see an antenna strip. It is located on the left side, above the SIM card slot.

If there’s one thing you can find fault with in terms of design in the Huawei P10 Lite, it’s the top edge. The off-center 3.5mm headphone jack looks too untidy.

It would be much better if the audio jack was located on the bottom edge, along with a microUSB connector for charging, speaker perforations and a microphone. Note that there is also a microphone point and two antenna strips on the bottom side, but they are almost invisible.

We have already said many times that using Huawei P10 Lite is convenient and comfortable. The materials of the monolithic glass body are pleasant to the touch, the build quality is the highest, all elements are in their place. The only thing that raises concerns is whether this beautiful case will collect scratches? You can check this after a couple of months of full use of the gadget.

Display

The smartphone uses a 5.2-inch Full HD display, which does its job well. It is inappropriate to talk about the need for QHD here - the price category is different, and the battery needs to be protected.

The color rendition and brightness of the screen are fine, the tilt angles are decent. Unfortunately, it is difficult to compare with the same Honor 8 from memory. But we had it in our hands. On the P10 Lite, the image is more saturated, the colors are deeper, and the picture itself looks better.

Among the interesting things in the display settings in EMIU 5.1 there is a mode for protecting vision from UV radiation, adjusting the color temperature and a function for increasing clarity in the sun. The brightness adjustment is in order - the maximum will allow you to use the device in the sun, the minimum will allow you to read or correspond on social networks at night.

Performance and benchmarks

Huawei continues to use proprietary Kirin chipsets in its flagship devices, ignoring Qualcomm and especially MediaTek. Today's test subject uses a Kirin 658 processor, consisting of 4 cores at 2.1 GHz and 4 cores at 1.7 GHz. It is powered by a Mali-T830 MP2 (900 MHz) graphics accelerator and 3 GB of RAM. The specifications are typical for the mid-segment, and they cope with their tasks.

On Huawei P10 Lite you can play any games from Google Play, but serious projects with 3D graphics and other bells and whistles will experience stuttering. Of course, the graphics settings will have to be turned down. During testing, we were able to play the new Russian game C.A.T.S, traditionally Dead Trigger 2 and Subway Surf, without any problems. As for Godfire, everything was fine there too, but rarely did the game freeze for a split second.

The smartphone interface is fast and stable, the EMUI shell is improving with each new version, but more on that later. Navigating through the menus, settings and basic functions of the device is not satisfactory, but it seems that the Honor 8 and even more so were faster.

Benchmark testing results:

Camera and photos

Unlike its older brothers, Huawei P10 Lite is equipped with a regular camera. If you want a dual camera, pay for the flagships.

The main module with a resolution of 12 megapixels, Leica SUMMILUX-H lenses, optical stabilization, f/2.2 aperture and flash in good conditions takes decent pictures with correct color rendition and white balance. However, when zooming in on a photograph, a lack of detail and clarity is often noticeable.

In low light or at night, the pictures are decent, the noise level is low, and no artifacts are detected.

The camera, given the price of the smartphone, is hardly worthy of criticism, but it cannot be called an advantage of the device.

An 8 megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture and a pixel size of 1.25 microns is responsible for the “selfies”. Selfies turn out good, you can safely post them on social networks. The camera also has a tool for removing skin blemishes.

Interface and fingerprint scanner

The smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and Huawei's proprietary shell, which gets better every year. We won’t judge the design and usability of EMUI - it’s a personal matter, some prefer “naked” Android, others prefer Chinese MIUI or Flyme.

How exactly is Huawei firmware better than its competitive Chinese counterparts? Firstly, it has many additional functions, and secondly, it is properly translated into Russian and does not crash.

You can judge the design and other details of EMUI from the screenshots, and we will tell you about the most interesting features separately.

There are a lot of interesting things in the “Management” section. For example, if the phone rings and you pick it up, the ringing volume decreases. Also, when making a call, you can simply turn the gadget over and the sound will turn off altogether.

Knuckles are another unique and unusual feature of EMUI. Using your knuckles, you can quickly take a screenshot, activate multi-window mode, or launch an application by drawing a predefined gesture for it. It’s difficult to judge how popular and practical it is, but the functions are really interesting.

Another notable section of the settings is “Clone Application”. Here you can make it so that one application, for example, WhatsApp, can be logged in from different accounts.

Equipment: Phone, network charger with USB connector, USB cable, wired headset, key for removing SIM card, cover case, warranty card, instructions, packaging

Main characteristics

Device type:

Smartphone/Communicator

2G standards:

The mobile communication standard defines the technologies used and the principle of constructing mobile communication networks. Mobile communication networks are usually divided into analog (NMT, AMPS) and digital (D-AMPS, GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, UMTS), and also classified by generation (generation) stages of development of the standards themselves.
GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications) is the most popular and widespread second-generation 2G cellular communication standard almost all over the world. In our country, as in most European countries, frequencies of 900 and 1800 MHz are allocated for this standard. In the countries of the American continent, it is customary to use frequencies of 850 and 1900 MHz.
The widespread introduction of GSM to replace outdated analogue networks has made it possible to significantly expand the subscriber base and the range of services provided, making cellular communications widely available. However, the specifics of GSM limit the services currently in demand based on high-speed Internet access.

GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 / GSM 850 / GSM 900

3G standards:

3G(Third Generation) - Third generation mobile communication technologies based on packet data transmission. Third generation 3G networks usually operate in the range of about 2 GHz, allowing data transfer at a speed comparable to a dedicated home Internet. In addition to standard voice telephony services, 3G networks are initially focused on various multimedia services, such as video telephony and video conferencing, online viewing of broadcast television and films, listening to Internet radio, etc. The most common third generation communication standard is WCDMA (UMTS) , operating in most European countries, incl. in Russia and CIS countries.

UMTS 1700 / UMTS 1900 / UMTS 2100 / UMTS 850 / UMTS 900

4G standards (LTE):

4G (Fourth generation)- The fourth generation of mobile communications, characterized by high data transfer speeds and improved quality of voice communications. Fourth generation networks include mobile data technology LTE(Long Term Evolution). Data transfer speeds using the LTE standard theoretically reach 173 Mbit/s for reception (download), and 58 Mbit/s for upload (upload).

LTE 1800 / LTE 2100 / LTE 2300 / LTE 2600 / LTE 800 / LTE 900

VoLTE:

VoLTE (in English Voice over LTE - voice over LTE)- voice transmission technology over the LTE network, which allows you to provide voice services and deliver them as a data stream over LTE. MegaFon is the first telecom operator in Russia to launch VoLTE without restrictions on the type of user: all subscribers in the Capital Region only, regardless of the tariff plan and billing system used, can connect to the HD Voice in 4G service and make calls using the new technology with using mobile devices supporting VoLTE network "MegaFon".

SIM card generation:

Each new generation of SIM cards is smaller than the previous one. Format Mini-SIM(2FF) appeared in the 1990s and is now used primarily in simple push-button phones. Cards Micro-SIM(3FF) have been used in smartphones since 2003 to this day. Nano-SIM(4FF) is the most compact card installed in modern smart devices. eSIM is a chip built into the device onto which a virtual SIM card can be written. This format is not supported by all telecom operators.

Number of SIM cards:

Hybrid SIM and memory card slot:

A hybrid slot usually has two slots: for installing either two SIM cards, or a SIM card + memory card.
If the slot is not hybrid, you can install two SIM cards and a memory card into the device at the same time.

Accumulator battery:

The difference in the chemical composition of batteries determines their physical and consumer parameters.
Ni-Cd(Nickel - Cadmium) and Ni-Mh(Nickel - Metal Hydride) batteries are quite heavy and bulky. Being not completely discharged before recharging, they are prone to loss of capacity (memory effect), and therefore require periodic maintenance (charge-discharge, so-called training).
Against, Li-Ion(Lithium Ion) and Li-Pol(Lithium - Polymer) batteries do not have these disadvantages. However, they lose their charge faster at low temperatures and have poor resistance to drops. Ease of maintenance and comparatively smaller size and weight were decisive factors for their active use.

Li-Pol, 3000 mAh

Wireless charging function:

A phone with wireless charging function can be charged without connecting a cable; you just need to place it on a special induction panel. A wireless charger is usually not included with your phone and must be purchased separately.
When choosing a charger, pay attention to the wireless charging standard (the most common is Qi).

NFC module:

NFC(Near Field Communication, “near field communication”) is a wireless communication technology that makes it possible to exchange data between devices located at a distance of up to 20 centimeters. There are many possible uses for NFC technology: transferring files between devices, connecting to accessories, using the device as a payment card, etc.

Equipment:

Phone, network charger with USB connector, USB cable, wired headset, SIM card eject key, cover case, warranty card, instructions, packaging

Guarantee period:

Memory and processor

Amount of random access memory (RAM):

RAM, which is used for the operation of programs and applications in the device. The speed of the device depends on its size. The actual free memory capacity may differ from that specified by the manufacturer.

Built-in memory capacity:

Built-in device memory- the total amount of memory intended for both storing user data and applications installed by the manufacturer, and also includes a section with the Operating System. The actual free memory capacity may differ from that specified by the manufacturer.

Display and keyboard

Display type:

TFT IPS- High quality liquid crystal matrix. It has wide viewing angles, one of the best indicators of color rendering quality and contrast among all those used in the production of displays for portable equipment.
Super AMOLED- if a regular AMOLED screen uses several layers, between which there is an air gap, then in Super AMOLED there is only one such touch layer without air gaps. This allows you to achieve greater screen brightness with the same power consumption.
Super AMOLED HD- differs from Super AMOLED in its higher resolution, thanks to which you can achieve 1280x720 pixels on a mobile phone screen.
Super AMOLED plus- this is a new generation of Super AMOLED displays, differs from the previous one by using a larger number of subpixels in a conventional RGB matrix. The new displays are 18% thinner and brighter than displays made using the old PenTile technology.
AMOLED- an improved version of OLED technology. The main advantages of the technology are significantly reduced power consumption, the ability to display a larger color gamut, reduced thickness and the ability of the display to bend slightly without the risk of breaking.
Retina-high pixel density display designed specifically for Apple technology. The pixel density of Retina displays is such that individual pixels are indistinguishable to the eye at a normal distance from the screen. This ensures the highest image detail and significantly improves the overall viewing experience.
Super Retina HD- the display is made using OLED technology. The pixel density is 458 PPI, the contrast reaches 1,000,000:1. The display has a wide color gamut and unsurpassed color accuracy. Pixels in the corners of the display are smoothed at the sub-pixel level, so edges are not distorted and appear smooth. The Super Retina HD reinforcing layer is 50% thicker. It will be harder to break the screen.
Super LCD- This is the next generation of LCD technology, it is characterized by improved characteristics compared to earlier LCD displays. The screens not only have wide viewing angles and better color reproduction, but also lower power consumption.
TFT- A common type of liquid crystal display. Using an active matrix controlled by thin-film transistors, it is possible to significantly increase the performance of the display, as well as the contrast and clarity of the image.
OLED- organic electroluminescent display. It consists of a special thin-film polymer that emits light when exposed to an electric field. This type of display has a large reserve of brightness and consumes very little energy.

Touchscreen:

The touch display is a conventional graphic display, on top of which either a pressure-sensitive substrate or infrared sensors are placed. Such a display reacts appropriately to presses with a stylus (pen) or fingers and is a more convenient way to interface with the device than a keyboard.

Additional display:

As a rule, an additional display is installed in folding phones. Depending on the model of the device, the additional display may display the caller's number, time, signal reception level and battery charge level.

Photo/Video camera

Main camera:

Thanks to the built-in digital camera It's very easy to capture important moments in life or shoot a video. Modern smartphone cameras are often not inferior in quality to real cameras. Using two, three or even four modules allows you to take wide-format photographs, photograph distant objects and achieve the effect of artistic background blur - bokeh.

Autofocus:

Flash:

Designed for short-term and intense illumination of objects during shooting. Cell phones can be xenon (which is based on an electric gas-discharge lamp filled with xenon) or LED (LEDs act as a light source).

Communications and interfaces

WiFi:

WiFi(IEEE 802.11) is a high-speed wireless connection technology aimed at building corporate, private or public networks. The technology is based on the use of so-called multiple access points (hot-spots), to which client terminals are connected. Wi-Fi technology is described by many specifications (standards), which is reflected in their name by the last letter (for example, IEEE 802.11g).
Based on Wi-Fi technology, public Internet access points have been created in cafes, hotels, airports and other places. Connecting a device to such points is as simplified as possible and requires entering a network identifier (SSID), username and password.

Bluetooth module:

Technology Bluetooth implements wireless connection of devices via a secure radio channel in the 2.4 GHz range. The technology is based on the use of profiles (services) as tools for performing specific tasks (audio gateway, hands-free, headset, file transfer, dial-up networking, serial port, etc.). Each profile contains a specific set of operations and defines possible areas of interaction between devices.
With a Bluetooth connection, devices can be located at a distance of up to ten meters from each other, and therefore, the development of wireless accessories is one of the prerogatives of this technology.

Bluetooth stereo support:

bluetooth stereo or A2DP(Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) is a Bluetooth profile or service designed to transmit music in stereo sound. Devices that support the A2DP profile allow you to listen to music using wireless Bluetooth headphones, thereby freeing you from the limitations imposed by traditional wired stereo headsets.

Connection to PC:

By connecting the device to a personal computer, you can quickly and conveniently edit telephone entries or organizer notes, save important SMS messages or backup copies of the device’s contents on your PC, download various pictures, melodies, photos or video clips, and access the Internet.
Depending on the characteristics of the device, connection to a PC is carried out using an interface cable, infrared port, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi modules.

Audio jack:

Type of connector for connecting external audio devices (wired headsets, headphones, speakers). Many modern smartphones use a universal connector, such as USB Type-C or Lightning, for audio output, charging and data transfer.

Messages

SMS:

SMS(Short Messages Service) or short text messages are an alternative way to exchange information over cellular networks. Most devices support receiving and sending SMS messages in both English and Russian. Type the desired text, for example, “Darling, I’m home. I kiss you and am waiting for you,” and within a few seconds it will be delivered to the mobile device you specified.
In addition, based on the SMS service, a variety of SMS services are provided, from weather forecasts and exchange rates, to dating and downloading simple melodies or pictures.

MMS:

MMS(Multimedia Messaging Service) is a universal technology for exchanging multimedia messages, which is a development of the idea of short SMS messages. In addition to plain text, an MMS message can contain color pictures and photographs, sound files of various formats or short videos. In addition, MMS messages can consist of several frames, representing a kind of animation.
When sending multimedia messages, GPRS or EDGE packet data transmission is used. You can send MMS messages either to a device compatible with this technology or to email.

Email:

Built-in email client is an analogue of programs for working with e-mail on a personal computer, but in a slightly limited version. As a rule, an E-mail client allows you to send and receive emails, as well as small attachments in the form of files with pictures or ringtones.

Alerts

Vibration alert:

In situations where the use of sound notification is not entirely appropriate or is completely useless, built-in vibration alert will inform you about an incoming call or other event by a slight shaking of the device body. For example, at a lecture or meeting, near a busy highway or at a noisy party.

Additional functions

Sensors:

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device’s position in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer; it can control various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures rotation angles relative to a fixed coordinate system. Capable of measuring rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. A gyroscope together with an accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. Devices that use only accelerometers have lower measurement accuracy, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor that sets the optimal brightness and contrast values for a given light level. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to your face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the magnetic poles of the Earth. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for terrain orientation.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for precise measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine altitude above sea level and speed up location determination.
Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System) is a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.
