  • Checklist: Error Prevention System, Atul Gawande. The modern world is becoming more and more complex, and there is more and more information in it. In daily work, this means that each employee must keep multiple tasks under control. But…

On vacation you want to relax and forget about everything. Moreover, this desire appears already upon entering the travel company. But it’s too early to relax! To avoid unpleasant situations, we advise you to think through everything down to the smallest detail: when is the best time to go on vacation and with whom, to which country, which company to contact for help, etc.

Among other things, it is worth getting acquainted in advance with a number of tourist terms that tourism managers use and on the knowledge and understanding of which your peace of mind on vacation depends. Unfortunately, most of these terms are in English, and therefore not all of us understand them. Let's look first at those concepts that can add a fly in the ointment to your wonderful vacation, check-in and check-out.

What do you need to check-in at the airport?
Translated from English this means registration, recording. The first time you encounter check-in is at the airport - this is the so-called check-in counter. What should you be prepared for at this moment? You must have with you everything you need for registration: a passport, an air ticket and the luggage itself. Here, an unpleasant moment for someone may be the inspection of luggage and hand luggage: it is done manually, in the order of the general queue. You may be asked to remove your shoes and have your clothing checked. Don’t let this bother you: all this is being done for our safety.

What do you need to check-in at the hotel?

In addition to checking in at the airport, you will have to check in at the hotel. At the hotel, you need to go to the reception board (in our opinion, the check-in counter) and present your passport, as well as all the documents that you received from the travel agency: voucher; a so-called hotel voucher on company letterhead, which indicates the name of the hotel, dates of entry and exit, hotel category and what meals you paid for; insurance certificate, which subsequently remains with you.

When you check-in and receive your keys, please ensure that the meal and room you are allocated matches the type of booking confirmed by the travel agency. All information about this must be indicated in the voucher, on the basis of which you are actually accommodated.
If you have any questions, they should be resolved immediately at the reception with a representative of the travel company who met you at the airport.
When checking in, don’t forget to ask what time the bus will pick you up on the day you leave the hotel.

Your check-in worries are over. And now an unforgettable vacation begins. You will resolve all issues related to organizing excursions or solving everyday issues with a representative of your travel company, who must leave you a contact phone number. Also, as a rule, in the lobby on the 1st floor of the hotel there is a tour operator’s stand with useful information and recommended excursions, which can be ordered from a company representative.

How to avoid problems when checking out of a hotel?
Well, the vacation has come to an end, and we need to get ready to go home. In order not to spoil the impression of your vacation, you need to clearly understand what a check-out, or checkout time, is. Don't believe it if your travel agent tells you that you can occupy the room until the taxi/bus arrives to take you to the airport - that's a mistake! There is an international check-out rule for all hotels: a tourist must vacate the hotel room exactly at 12.00, regardless of what time his flight departs. Don’t worry, you can wait for a taxi/bus (transfer) in the hotel lobby. You should not prove that you are right by convincing the hotel manager that you paid for 10 days and 9 nights and have the right to stay in the room “until the bitter end.” This, alas, will lead nowhere. You do not pay for the number of planned days (let's say 10, 24 hours each), but for the actual stay at the hotel from 12 noon on the day of arrival to 12 noon on the day of departure (as indicated on the booking sheet and voucher).

Please note: if you arrive at night and wish to check in immediately, you will be required to pay for the additional night you arrive. Your right is to wait in the hotel lobby until 12.00 the next day, but I think this is unlikely to suit you. Exactly the same rule exists for departure: exactly at 12.00 you must vacate your room!

It happens that hotels accommodate vacationers halfway, and if the flight home is very late and the hotel has available rooms, they can confirm a late check-out for you. Its cost, as a rule, is half the price of a night's stay. Therefore, when booking a tour, do not forget to check with the travel agency manager about the departure time and (if necessary) the possibility of ordering a late check-out. This is especially convenient and important if you are vacationing with children.

If you take into account all of the above, I think your vacation will give you only positive emotions. Happy travels!

Quite a bit of time has passed since the announcement of a new application from Foursquare called Swarm. Let us recall that the company took the path of dividing its main mobile application Foursquare into two independent ones. The main app is due to be updated this summer. The button to make check-ins and the activity feed of friends who will move to Swarm should disappear from it. Foursquare will be entirely centered around presenting information about the best places to eat nearby or in a location you're interested in, while Swarm will be about your current location, your friends' locations, and your plans.

You can find out about the reasons for separating applications from this, and find out which functions will be assigned to a particular application -.
We'll get straight to the review. Swarm‘a. Let us immediately note that the instructions were prepared using an iPhone, but it is also suitable for Android users, since the applications are almost completely identical.

I. Download the application

The first thing we need is the application itself, which can be downloaded from the link. After downloading and installing the application, we will be offered several options for logging in:

If you haven't used Foursquare before, then the first or third option will suit you.
If you have fully used Foursquare, then choose the first option or the second.

Draw your attention to: If you're already a Foursquare user and have chosen to sign in with your Facebook account, make sure your accounts on both social networks are linked. To do this, in the Foursquare app, open Settings -> Account Settings -> Facebook and Twitter. If the accounts are not linked, then logging in through Facebook will create a new profile for yourself.

Let us immediately note that until the updated version of Foursquare is released, you can fully use both applications for check-ins. The database is the same, therefore, after checking in through Swarm, it will immediately appear in Foursquare, and vice versa. The same goes for notifications: if you view new notifications through Swarm, they will automatically be marked as viewed in Foursquare.

II. First login (local location transfer)

When you first log in, the application will prompt you to enable local sharing of your location:

This is a completely new feature that Foursquare did not have. Now you don't have to check in to tell your friends about your location. Just enable local location transfer, and your friends will always know where you are geographically:

The screenshot shows that Alex is now in the Teply Stan area (Moscow), although he has not made any check-ins for several hours. It is important to understand that in the absence of check-ins, the location will be indicated approximately - in this example, the Moscow region is indicated, and not the exact location.

While using Swarm, you can turn this feature on and off at any time by swiping right on your profile photo. Accordingly, the application header will change color depending on whether you are using local location sharing or not.

We will only separately note that constantly updating your location in the background (when the application is minimized or even closed) additionally drains the battery power of your mobile device.

III. Main application tabs

Heat map of friends

The app slogan reads: "Meet your friends", therefore in first place in Swarm‘e there is a screen on which your friends are displayed depending on how far they are from you.

If someone is nearby, why not meet with him/her? Simply select the friend you're interested in, and you'll be able to view the details of their last check-in to find out exactly where they are, call/send an SMS right away, or chat via Facebook Messenger (in case you've both linked your Foursquare and Facebook profiles) ):

Don't forget to give the application access to your address book when it asks, otherwise you won't be able to send SMS:

Friends activity feed

The second tab of the application is the activity feed of your friends, i.e. their check-ins in chronological order. Unlike Foursquare, you can see all your friends' check-ins in chronological order, not just the most recent one:

From your friends' activity feed you can:

  • like your friend’s check-in (heart icon on the right);
  • view check-in details by tapping on it, and add a comment if desired;
  • go to your friend’s profile by clicking on his photo.

Plans of people nearby

Another innovation in Swarm‘e, in addition to local location transfer, it became possible to make plans, share them with friends and watch/comment on what your friends have planned.

For example, if tomorrow you are going to go for a walk in the park, then create a new plan, perhaps one of your friends will want to join you. If the plan is outdated and no longer relevant, then you can delete it at any time by simply swiping your finger over it from right to left:

If the same action is performed with someone else’s plan, then it can be hidden (sinks down and turns gray).

Notifications

The last tab of the application is notifications from your friends. If someone wanted to make friends with you, liked your check-in, or, for example, became interested in your immediate plans, then you will certainly receive a notification about this:

IV. Chekin

As you probably already noticed, in the upper right corner of the application there is a button "Chekin", similar to its predecessor from the Foursquare app. Of course, you can simply enable the local location transfer function (see point II) so that your friends always know where you are, and completely abandon check-ins as such. However, if it is important for you to store the history of your movements, add comments and photos to them, then the check-in function will be indispensable for you.

So, by clicking on the button "Chekin", the application will try to independently determine where you are. If Swarm made a mistake, then you can press the button "Change location" and select/find the desired establishment.

Here, in addition to changing the location, you can add a comment, a photo and... a sticker!

Clue: You can use emoji emoticons as stickers. Just put an emoticon in the check-in comment, and it will automatically become a sticker:

Stickers are another new feature for check-ins through Swarm. Thanks to stickers, you can express your mood/emotions or convey what you are doing. Stickers are completely free, and as you check in at different places, more and more new stickers will be available to you ().

Also, if you start writing your friend’s name in the check-in comments, you will be able to mention him during check-in or check in with you. You will only be able to check in with your friend if he allows other users to tag him in the app settings (however, this setting is currently only available in the Foursquare app).

How to delete any of your check-ins?
If you need to delete one of your check-ins, then go to the details page about it (for example, through the check-in history in your profile or the activity feed of friends) and click on the icon in the upper right corner, and then select the item “Should I delete this check-in?” and confirm().

V. User Profile

Clicking on your photo in the top left corner of the app will take you to your profile. If you click on your friend’s photo on one of the application screens, then, accordingly, you will be taken to his profile.

Accordingly, in your profile you can:

In your friends' profiles, you can view their check-in history, cancel the friendship, or set up to receive push notifications about their check-ins:

  • Always: you will receive notifications about every check-in of your friend;
  • City: You will receive notifications when your friend comes to your city;
  • Never: You will not receive any notifications about your friend's check-ins.

VI. Application Settings

To go to the settings, you must first open your profile by clicking on your photo at the top of the application, and then click on the settings icon in the upper right corner:

We will briefly explain what each setting item is responsible for.

Notifications

  • Check-in notifications(on/off) is a global setting, thanks to which you can turn on or off push notifications about the mints of all your friends with one switch. That is, you can set up check-in notifications for each individual friend in their profiles, or you can, say, turn off these notifications for everyone at once.
  • Other notifications: From here you can configure which notifications you will receive on your phone and which by email ().

The modern slang dictionary has recently been replenished with another interesting word - the verb “check in”. You can pronounce it both chEkinitsya and chIkinitsya. This word is derived from the English word “chek in” and means to register, join or check in. But today we’ll talk about a mobile service that allows you to chimney. And you will learn what it means to chime in, and about the Foursquare program that allows you to do it.

What is checking in with Foursquare?

Foursquare is the best location-based service for checking in and sharing with your friends. The application can be freely downloaded and installed from the Google Play market. It works very simply and interestingly.

After installing the application, you need to go through an easy registration procedure. You can register by email or log in through your Facebook account. Next, the program will automatically determine your location (a constant Internet connection is required, a GPS connection is not required).

Foursquare will also prompt you to scan your address book. When scanning, the application will find your friends who also have Foursquire installed. It is possible to add friends through the program search.

After all the operations completed, you will be able to find out about interesting places in your area (clubs, bars, shops, etc.). You will find out what is the distance from you to these points. All such places are marked for you by other people who want to advertise their establishment. As a rule, this is advertising in the form of photographs and short messages. You can also read the comments from visitors, they will give you a good hint. You can also check in (mark) your location on the map. Your friends will be able to see your location. You can check in wherever you are. However, it should be clarified that the Internet connection is not always stable, so failures in determining the location are possible.

So, by installing this application, you can check in with friends, telling them about your location, posting photos, and giving short comments.
