Buzios: “Brazilian Saint-Tropez. Buzios - beach resort in Brazil Buzios Brazil

While many travelers head to Brazil to spend the majority of their time in a large, bustling capital city, I headed to a culturally rich small town two hours away from the capital.

Perhaps there are only a few like me, but I flew to Brazil to purposefully visit this place. The once tiny fishing town is now considered the local Las Vegas.

And all thanks to Brigitte Bardot, who vacationed here exactly 50 years ago. It was then that she introduced the fashion for a relaxing “star” holiday in Buzios, which now looks like Saint Tropez, no less.

To get to my final destination, as mentioned above, I rode a bus for two hours. The first negative point was the heat on the bus. Either acclimatization or a couple of glasses of wine on the plane made themselves felt.

In general, in addition to the bus number “1001”, there are also direct flights from both Europe and the USA. True, all flights are private, and, as a result, irregular.

Arriving in Buzios, I realized that the reality of the beauty of this city lived up to all my expectations. During the week that I was here, I tried to visit as many surrounding places as possible.

Let's just say that this vacation is designed for young people, although I met quite a few older people here (as a rule, local or visiting Brazilians).

If you want to look at nature or architecture, it’s a two-hour drive to, and here, one might say, Ibiza, only aimed at a wider audience. I decided to present the rest of the story with a brief description of the places I visited.

So let's start with the beaches of Buzios

Buzios gained its worldwide fame not only because of Brigitte Bardot, especially since she was no fool when she chose this place. Here you can count several dozen stunning beaches, and I want to present you the best of them:

Joao Fernandinho Beach - This small, laid-back beach is popular for its always clear water, lack of waves and views of the unique desert landscapes.

Brava Beach - This beach is the complete opposite of the previous beach and is considered the best place for surfing, thanks to the incredible height of the waves.

Geriba Beach is, one might say, a beach for lonely hearts. Here you can always meet beautiful men and women with beautiful bodies. Seriously, like a choice.

Azeda Beach is a small, remote beach considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in all of Brazil.

It can be reached either only by boat, or on foot with special equipment. You won't get there that easily. By the way, it is also a local nature reserve.

Ferradura Bay is a general beach, but not the most crowded. Here you can meet mainly couples and young families. In addition, there is a huge amount of entertainment available here: riding on all kinds of inflatable dolls or skis, as well as floating restaurants.

Although I don’t consider myself a special athlete, I love to be active, and here I present to you what I found here from local entertainment.

First of all, this is, of course, diving. Here in Buzios you can find an incredible number of different unique and rare representatives of underwater life, such as giant turtles, groupers, manta rays and colorful corals.

In addition, the water here is warm around the clock, and taking into account the fact that representatives of the local fauna live under water at different times of the day, you can safely observe them even late at night. The most prestigious and inexpensive diving site is the small island of Ancora, which can be reached by boat in thirty minutes.

If you are a beginner and have never been diving, then the Arrail do Cabo school will make you a professional in one day. By the way, many experienced divers use their services, since during training you spend 5-6 hours underwater.

If you suddenly like sports on the seas that are more adapted to a flat surface, then I suggest you pay attention to the golf park in Buzios. Designed by world-renowned architects, the club features 18 holes and is considered one of the most popular such venues in the world.

Buzios is also considered an icon of sailing, hosting athletes from all over the world. Even the famous Brazilian champion Lars Grael practiced in Buzios.

In addition, the city annually hosts a special sailing week. It’s a pity I didn’t catch this spectacle, but judging by the photographs, it’s cooler than any carnival.

Hiking is also present here. Moreover, local excursions do not include trips to Rio, but reveal local beauties. As a rule, walks take the whole day, so I recommend carefully preparing for them.

My roommates, a couple over 40, once went on such a walk and in the evening they told me about unforgettable impressions, but in the morning they could not get up due to terrible muscle pain. Which is quite natural given the load.

Of all the excursions offered, I only visited the Emerências Nature Reserve, the only place in the world where you can meet the endangered Tamarin golden lions and see more than 300 species of butterflies and 60 species of birds.

Fishing. Fun for young and old. I am already silent about the hundreds of unspoken bets that I observed daily. Some argue that they will catch a perch, others strive to catch a small shark, especially since there are countless services for fishing registration here. But I recommend talking better with the locals, they charge less money and can show you places rich in fish.

Kiteboarding and surfing. I learned about this sport directly here. The fact that it is dangerous is clear, but what impressions there are cannot be described in words. The man, having been instructed, flew like this over the ocean for half an hour, and then could not find words to describe what it was like. He just screamed.

What’s most interesting is that the instructor here is probably the youngest instructor in the world - a 6-year-old boy who is seriously certified by the International Kiteboarding Association.

I also recommend visiting the cultural center of Rua das Pedras (Stone Street). Often perceived as a must-see site, the cobblestone street is located in the Eagle Bardo area and is an extension of the road from Armaçao Beach Street.

Local bars, clubs, hotels, shops, restaurants, and art galleries fill the area, making it a lively and interesting area for an evening stroll.

Do you love art? You definitely won't get bored in Buzios. The array of galleries and creative shops will definitely get your creative juices flowing, showcasing local and international art.

Das Artes Gallery presents the creations of numerous artists from around the world, ranging from bronze sculptures to oil paintings of the most unsuitable parts of the body.

If you love public art, then the Christina Motta Gallery can invite you to look at the beautiful sculptures of the same Brigitte Bardot and other celebrities. There are also galleries of modern paintings, paintings in the style of illusionism, as well as many world famous paintings.

As for restaurants and cafes, there are probably more of them here than there are indigenous people. Still, I managed to choose the best of the best under strict competition conditions.

Creperie Chez Michou - visit this place if you want to sit in an informal outdoor setting and taste delicious crepes. You can choose from pancakes with fillings such as cheese, bananas, chicken curry, and even caramel, combined with beer, cocktails and wonderful live Brazilian music.

Restaurant Cigalon is a romantic establishment with beach views, an extensive wine list, huge portions and cuisine that shows the influence of Argentine and French chefs. Considered the best place in the city to eat duck.

Capricciosa Restaurant - This establishment is known for its careful and high-quality pizza preparation methods. They are cooked in a wood-fired oven, while guests can choose toppings such as spinach, shrimp, tomatoes, olives, artichokes and much more.

Restaurant Estancia Don Juan is a funky establishment, painted in bright colors, and offering a menu of Argentinean cuisine. Old photographs and posters decorate the walls here, and the decorated furniture generally looks like it was made back in the century before last. The place is original, and, by the way, quite cheap.

The nightclubs on Rua das Pedras are some of the best in the world. I say this as an expert who has visited clubs on all continents. I present to you the best “club” representatives.

Club Pacha is a place for those who love techno and house music with amazing views of Canto Beach. Its unique design lies in the successful combination of transparent and colored glass. Do you know why there are even glass floors here? The club is located directly above the ocean at an altitude of fifteen meters.

Club Moor - This is a combination restaurant, bar and nightclub in an Argentine style. The establishment often hosts concerts and performances on a regular basis.

The Privilege Club is a venue known for its world-class DJs and breathtaking views of Orla Bardot, a top-notch two-story nightclub with an all-female lineup of incredibly beautiful models. If you love trance music and beautiful girls, then you definitely need to visit this place.

Patio Havana is a rather extraordinary place, hosting concerts in the style of blues, jazz and popular Brazilian music.

Buzios– one of the most beautiful places on the planet. A combination of provincial life and modern infrastructure, unprecedented flora, sandy beaches with clean and clear water, exotic small bays, architecture of Buzios, sights that amaze with their simplicity and luxury, an ornate landscape and all this in harmony with nature. The peninsula is washed by the warm and cool waters of the Brazilian and Antarctic ocean currents and has the shape of a sea shell. Five miles long and twenty-five varied coastlines. The eastern coast is washed by a cold current of water, and it is well blown by sea winds. Good place for surfing. The West Coast is calm, warm, pleasant waters with a rich marine life. A quiet harbor for fishing schooners and at the same time ports for mooring ships with flags of different countries. Special architecture with old legendary houses and the newest buildings of recent years. Large supermarkets and small souvenir shops. Cozy little bars and seafood restaurants. More than a dozen small bays that are formed by the cool waters of the Atlantic. All this is Buzios in its unity and diversity.

Historical development of Buzios

The history of Buzios Bay in Brazil dates back to the Middle Ages. The indigenous inhabitants of these places were the Indian tribes of Tamoio and Goitacos. Seeking refuge from their pursuers, the first sea pirates landed on the rocky shore. Here they were inaccessible and invisible to the authorities of most countries. Here English, French and Dutch pirates could divide and hide their loot. But the story turns out that an open corner of the “earthly paradise” by some people always attracts many others. This happened with the pirates' hideout. Soon the bays of Buzios became not only a refuge for pirates, but also a place for trading slaves. Over time, the bay became a small village on the coast. The natural wealth of the region was the cause of the struggle between the Portuguese and the French. Buzios was conquered by one, then by another, and finally it began to belong to the Portuguese. The name of this place translates as “sea shell” or “witchcraft”. An interesting fact is that in ancient times they predicted the future on shells, and not on coffee grounds. And this is paradoxical in a country where coffee is grown. However, the gift of prediction among the first settlers gave rise to the name of the modern resort.

And since the sixties of the twentieth century, this place has become a popular seaside resort for those who were looking for solitude and communication with nature. This happened after Brigitte Bardot visited this “earthly paradise”. Her words about the "earthly paradise" in Buzios attracted many celebrities from all over the world. A copy of the famous Saint-Tropez was created here. Every year, the entire rich elite of the art world came there to relax in warm resorts. Famous actors, writers, artists, poets... The local nature pushed them to creativity and gave them new strength.

Buzios is located one hundred and seventy-five kilometers from Rio de Janeiro. It's only two and a half to three hours by car or bus. It is only six hundred and twenty kilometers from Sao Paulo, and only one thousand three hundred and thirty-nine kilometers from the capital.

The resort is open all year round. There is no winter season here. The sun shone two hundred and fifty-four days a year. The temperate Mediterranean climate is beneficial for everyone. The highest temperature is plus thirty-seven degrees, the lowest is twenty degrees plus. The coast is washed on one side by the warm current of equatorial water, and on the other by northern cold water. This must be taken into account when choosing beaches. The peak season here begins in December and ends in March.

Very clean, calm and clear water, the sea is turquoise in color. It is fashionable to have fun with sailing, diving, surfing, and water skiing. Truly "paradise"!

In the sixties, following the example of Brigitte Bordeaux, the wealthy elite from the cities of Brazil spent their holidays on the fishing coast. There was no water or light there yet. All living quarters on the coast were very simple, and looked like fishermen's houses. But this quiet period ended in the active eighties. Wealthy real estate buyers from different parts of Brazil changed the infrastructure of Buzios, provided water and electricity, gave a new round in the development of the tourism business, increasing turnover in real estate and services.

Before 1995, Buzios had no defined infrastructure. He quickly became frustrated, not having a definite look, a common architecture and a unified plan. In 1995, a general plan for the city began to be developed. Particular attention was paid to preserving the natural landscape and landscape of the area simultaneously with construction. The plan was completed in 2006. It has been welcomed by the municipality and environmentalists. This was already a clear plan for the overall development of the region.

Already in the year 2000, numerous foreigners began to buy high-quality houses. This significantly improved the characteristics of housing. Prices have increased along with quality. Private villas with very original and unique architecture, large 24-hour retail outlets and nightlife establishments were built. And it turned out that Buzios is no longer a nostalgic, peaceful, charming, small village, but a modern place for numerous entertainments with a variety of houses, streets, restaurants, modern hotels, golf clubs. Today's Buzios is a resort of international importance for the holidays of wealthy Brazilians and many foreigners.

Demographics and economy of Buzios

The permanent population in Amraçao dos Buzios is approximately thirty thousand inhabitants. They work in the tourism business. One hundred and twenty thousand visitors are added during the season. On average, Buzios is visited by up to six hundred thousand tourists annually. They come mainly from European countries, America, Argentina. Búzios in Brazil ranks seventh in the attendance ranking. Economic income from the sale of real estate and tourism. There is a small port for local fishermen. Rio de Janeiro produces a large amount of oil (seventy percent of Brazil's production). And Buzios, as a coastal city in the state, receives part of the payments from the sale of oil and gas.

Transport accessibility of Buzios

By road you can get there in two to three hours from Rio de Janeiro. When using air transport, you should be aware of the existence of two airports. This is an international airport in Cabo Frio. This airport is connected to the whole world. European flights are also planned. The second airport is located almost in the center. Here, in addition to regular flights, private flights are also available. To travel by sea, use the ship port and yacht club.

To move around the streets from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon they travel from the center to any beach Buzios Trolley. In addition, you can rent small two-seater cars or bicycles at the rental point.

IN Buzios attractions you will find at every step. There are many cafes and restaurants right on Rua das, the main city street, which is the oldest, central street. Houses built in the nineteenth century have been preserved here. You will see both small fishermen's houses and luxurious villas of local landowners.

It is interesting to look at the sculpture “Three Fishermen”. It is located on Armaçao beach. Majestic, the size of a human being, it seems to come to life from afar. It reminds of the villagers of this area who lived from fishing.

The forest areas of the peninsula are protected by the state. Here you can see unusual animals and birds. The place where you can see golden lion-headed monkeys is the Reserva das Emerencias forest. And the forest of the Reserva de Tahua will greet you with a variety of colorful butterflies (more than three hundred species) and birds (more than sixty species).

Walking into a souvenir crafts shop, no one will remain indifferent. Here you will find souvenirs from different exotic parts of the world. Native Indian souvenirs are also on sale. You can buy marine themed products.

Well, the evening hour is gourmet hour. Sit in cafes or restaurants on small and cozy streets. They are separated by no more than twenty meters. Try delicious Brazilian cuisine. The Captain's Bar cafe will offer you alcoholic drinks from anywhere in the world. The Zapata restaurant will surprise you with Mexican cuisine.

Lovers of cheerful music and dancing relax in Privilege. This bar is located on an old schooner that is moored. The schooner's deck has been transformed into a chic dance floor; the light breeze of the night ocean creates a romantic mood. The dancing continues until sunrise.

Active holidays are possible in Buzios. You can try sailing, surfing, water skiing, etc.

Fans of water fun find themselves in a large “aquarium”. The local climate allows an endless number of species of marine life to live there. Diving is my favorite activity. This is interesting for both a person who is completely unfamiliar with this sport and a professional diver. It is good to go scuba diving near the islands of Rasa and Feia, as well as the coastal areas of Azedina, Tartaguda, Azeda, Caravelas. If you have decided to get acquainted with the world of the ocean for the first time, then instructors are at your service, who in four hours will teach you the basic rules of diving, familiarize you with the diver’s equipment, and even dive with you several times for safety reasons. Rental equipment, boats and guides are available for knowledgeable divers. The service staff speaks several languages. They will tell you about possible dives from ten to sixty meters and what you can see there. For example, at the foot of one of the reefs you can see a sixgill shark, at a depth near one of the caves - a sunken ship, a black cliff at a depth of fifteen meters.

Many famous people from the art world vacationed on these shores. After Brigitte Bardot, at various times this resort hosted Mick Jagger, Harold V, the King of Norway, Naomi Campbell, Bill Gates, other movie stars, writers, athletes or just famous people.

Organization of recreation and sports

You can organize a vacation at the sea and its coast. Seventeen beautiful beaches are at your service. Combine sunbathing with regular swimming. For a more active holiday, you can take sea walks to different islands, diving, fishing, video surfing and kite surfing. Sailing is also very developed here. Sailing competitions of various levels are held here. Those who prefer a more relaxing sporting holiday can use the golf club. An excellent 18-hole golf course awaits you. Try other sporting events: tennis, equestrianism, rowing. Nature lovers will be offered eco-tourism. There are organized tours of the Emerencias Nature Reserve, where you will see untouched ancient forests. You can go to the annual Granny Bardo Cinema festival or food festival in November.

At your disposal are more than three hundred and fifty hotels of different levels of tourist availability. From the cheapest to super luxury. For wealthy clients, we can suggest Casas Brancas, Perola, Porto Bay Glenzhaus, Brava Hotel and Insolito. These are all foreign hotels and with high fees.

Most restaurants are located along the main street of the city and further along the embankment. The cuisine is varied: from exquisite seafood to “stack houses”, here you can taste the cuisines of different nations of the world and relax in a calm atmosphere. You will be provided with Japanese cuisine, French, Italian, Moroccan, Thai and, of course, Brazilian. There are, of course, fast food restaurants and pizzerias. Inexpensive and tasty lunch with fast service. Throughout the day you can taste prepared seafood on the beaches. At the Mil Frutas ice cream cafe you can try a huge number of types of delicious ice cream.

Evening and night life Buzios The Brazilian one is more seething. During the day the streets are quiet, and at night everyone goes out for a walk around the night shops, restaurants, clubs, where there is always live music.
