Three ways to remove Microsoft Edge and disable system access to the program. Copy and paste

Microsoft Edge is the standard system web browser that comes with Windows 10. The browser is fast, has good benchmark performance, is compatible with all modern web standards, and offers several features that are not available in specific solutions.

Edge originally came with web notes, integration with Cortana, a simple and minimal reading mode, and support for Adobe Flash and PDF.

With the release of the Windows Anniversary Update, Microsoft Edge added support for web extensions, added tab pinning, improved web page rendering speed, and expanded support for web standards.

The newest update brings support for reading e-books to Edge and a unique new way to organize tabs.

Microsoft Edge has been cleaned up of unnecessary code that has made Internet Explorer a frequent target for malicious applications. The browser does not support ActiveX and VBScript components. Adobe Flash is now blocked by default and the user must manually allow Flash objects to run. Edge uses the new EdgeHTML rendering engine instead of MSHTML, which has a bad reputation. On websites, Edge is not identified as Internet Explorer, but as a browser compatible with the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. The product uses the new Chakra JavaScript engine, which is known for its high processing speed compared to other browser technologies.

Microsoft Edge improvements in Windows 10 Creators Update

  • Improved tab organization. Added a tab content preview panel that appears when you hover over a tab title. Added function for adding tabs for delayed reading. The function of displaying a loudspeaker icon for those tabs on which sound is played has been implemented.
  • E-book reading support: Edge supports reading e-books purchased from the Windows App Store, as well as offline downloaded EPUB books.
  • Export Supports exporting the Favorites list to an HTML file.
  • Added quick navigation commands to the Microsoft Edge taskbar icon, such as “New Window” and “New InPrivate Window”.
  • Improved support for web standards. Added support for the new Brotli compression algorithm. It features improved compression ratio and decompression speed. Support for online payments based on the Payment Request API has been implemented.
  • Improved stability and responsiveness by reworking the browser's internal architecture.

Security and protection of personal data

Microsoft Edge, like all modern Windows Store apps, runs in a separate virtualized environment. This means that browser processes are isolated from the rest of the system, and code executed in the browser cannot harm the actual system or installed applications. The browser is equipped with a SmartScreen content filter that blocks known malicious sites and flags suspicious downloads. Edge does not support ActiveX, VBScript, or Browser Helper Objects, which reduces attack opportunities for hackers.

The 64-bit version of Microsoft Edge can only run on 64-bit computers and provides enhanced security with Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) technology.

Edge supports a unique security feature - biometric authentication using Windows Hello, such as face or fingerprint recognition. However, at the moment the technology is supported only by a few sites.

In terms of privacy protection, Microsoft Edge lacks the tracking protection feature that was present in Internet Explorer. There is no tracking protection even in the InPrivate private browsing tab. The built-in VPN feature is also not supported.

Microsoft Edge for Android

Microsoft Edge is now available on the Android platform. The app is part of an ecosystem for Windows 10 users. Content and data are synchronized in the background, so users can seamlessly browse web pages across devices.

The Android version includes standard features such as Center, which brings together tools and features to easily search, view and edit content.

Microsoft Edge for Android features:

  • Continue on PC: Continue viewing content on your computer where you left off on your smartphone (for the function to work, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update must be installed on your PC).
  • Data Sync: Favorites and reading list will be synced across your devices. Regardless of your device, your browser will be personalized.
  • Center: favorites, reading list, browsing history and books are combined in one place. Content management has become very easy.
  • Reading mode: Optimize web page elements to focus on reading content.
  • Built-in QR Code Scanner: Scan QR codes with one click. Microsoft Edge will read the data and display it on the screen.
  • Voice Search: You can now use your voice to search the web. Ask a question or say a keyword to use the Internet in a more natural way.
  • InPrivate Browsing Mode: Use InPrivate tabs for private browsing. History, temporary files and cookies will not be saved on the device after the session ends.

Owners of modern computer devices that work with version 10 of Windows have already had the opportunity to get acquainted with the new generation browser. Edge is a pretty good tool that combines the speed of Mozilla Firefox and the convenience, versatility, and simple interface of Chrome.

The program is already actively functioning, many have even managed to note the positive qualities of this modern development. Information about microsoft edge, what kind of program it is, will definitely be useful for many who like to wander the Internet or work effectively with web resources.

Why was this app invented?

As people's demands grow over time, computer technologies and gadgets become more advanced, it is necessary to remove old functioning software, constantly creating new products. The modern Microsoft Edge browser has become such a fresh solution that is ideal for working on the World Wide Web.

Its creators took into account all the wishes of customers, took into account the new capabilities of recent versions of Windows, and were able to provide users with a tool with the following capabilities:

  • good data transfer speed, content downloading;
  • a clear mechanism of use, an interface that allows you to leave the most important things in sight of the user;
  • versatility, flexibility when installing additional extensions or plugins;
  • modern design, fairly compact size, allowing you to save memory resources on your working device.

Users have already appreciated this positive update by downloading it from the Internet and installing it as their main browser. Anyone can install Microsoft Edge in Windows 10, but the system does not support a version lower than this, because the rest is outdated long ago.

Downloading the program from the store, installing it, setting up operating parameters

If a person owns a personal computer, the version of its software meets the required, modern standards, and it is now connected to the network, then you can safely install this popular functional unit. Completing such a process takes a couple of minutes, requiring a person to execute commands of this nature:

This system is an excellent replacement for the Explorer familiar to every PC owner; the browser works much better, and can be downloaded completely free of charge.

If a person had to observe that the browser was already installed on his work gadget, he should, if desired, supplement a number of its capabilities with plugins and other similar extensions. Such additional care is what will allow you to further expand your own capabilities.

If you download the specified content component using an official source, there will be no need to scan it with an antivirus. When a file was found through a standard search engine, hidden in an archive or document of a different format, it is worth additionally looking at the level of its quality.

When used, the system shows quite positive results, which are displayed during the operation of the program. There is no need to download additional extensions, because the browser works quite well without them. This system does not support all the plugins available for Chrome or Firefox, but there are several good additional components.

Internet Explorer has been the default browser for Windows operating systems for twenty years. Over the years, Microsoft's own browser has become cluttered, insecure, difficult to use, and downright hated by many users. As a result, many have switched to alternative browsers such as Google Chrome. However, in Windows 10, Microsoft returned to its roots and canceled everything that had been developed in Internet Explorer. A completely new browser was created from scratch, free of all the baggage of Internet Explorer, with a modern and fast Internet experience. This browser is Microsoft Edge.

The Microsoft Edge browser is the built-in browser in Windows 10. It is worth adding that Internet Explorer Same is included in Windows 10, although it is buried a little deeper into it. According to Microsoft, this is mainly due to compatibility with older programs that companies use. However, Edge is the default across Microsoft's entire product line, from PCs and smartphones to Hololens and Surface Hubs. The company says that the new browser was specially created to be clean, compact and responsive. The Microsoft Edge browser feels really light and fast, even austere at times, and is a very welcome departure from IE.

After IE, Microsoft had to work hard to regain the trust of users. The Edge browser uses the Trident render engine, the same one used in IE 11, but without some features. Microsoft emphasizes that a huge amount of work has been done to ensure that sites created for Safari or Chrome look good in Edge - something that has always been problematic in IE. The new EdgeHTML engine makes Microsoft Edge fast and lightweight: Microsoft's new creation can now easily compete with the fastest browser, Google Chrome. Edge will only get better in the future as Microsoft continues to add new features to the browser. In particular, support for extensions is expected, which will give Edge the opportunity to compete with Chrome and Firefox.

In this article I will talk about the functions of Microsoft Edge, its new features that may be of interest to the user, the settings of the new browser and other points that will help you switch to using it if desired. At the same time, I will not evaluate it: for some it may turn out to be just what they need, for others it may not be suitable for their tasks.

Microsoft Edge interface

I don’t know about you, but I really like the Microsoft Edge interface. It has a minimalistic design that fits perfectly into the overall look of Windows 10. The toolbar contains only the most necessary buttons, and everything else is hidden in a panel that appears on the right. Here you can choose a design theme: dark or light.

When you open Edge, you're greeted with a blank home page and the question, "Where to next?" above the combined search and address bar. Below are links to popular sites, and even lower is a customizable information and news feed that can show news, sports scores and weather based on a Microsoft account upon user request.
It's not particularly surprising that Edge's built-in search is based on Bing, but what is surprising is how difficult it is to switch to another search. To do this you need to go to Options, Then More options Search in the address bar using. By default you will see here Bing and Yandex. To add Google, for example, you will have to enter it in the option Show home page button. Now you can also select it as your default search. And so that Microsoft Edge even opens with the Google start page in Parameters find To open with, switch to mode Customizable and just write it down google.com. Now the usual search from Google will work quite well in the new browser from Microsoft.

I use the page from MSN and find it very convenient and useful. Here you will have access to the Outlook.com email service, the Store, the browser version of Skype, office applications, One Note, OneDrive, Maps, and even social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. This is very convenient and practical, considering that I use all these services every day. In addition to all of the above, you also have the opportunity to view the news. It’s a pity, of course, that they are mostly Russian, but this apparently directly depends on the Microsoft representative office in Ukraine.

How about browser speed?

When I first opened the new Microsoft Edge browser, I was pleasantly surprised by its speed. He's just reactive. This is understandable. After all, Chrome and Firefox, loaded with extensions, themes and plugins, cannot show such agility, but it still looks very convincing. How quickly it starts is noticeable even to the average user. But, at the same time, Microsoft Edge consumes RAM more than other browsers. Opening new tabs and switching between them is simply instantaneous. But with the speed of opening pages the situation is not so clear. As numerous comparisons show, the surfing speed in the new browser is practically no different from its competitors.

Reading mode and reading list

In addition to the “Favorites” function, which is present in all modern browsers, Edge has a “Reading List” function, with which you can save any article from the Internet, with the ability to further access it even without an Internet connection. You can add articles to it that you want to read without cluttering your favorites list with them. To add an article, click the star button in the address bar, select the Reading List option, and click Add.

Microsoft Edge has one unique feature - Reading Mode, which promotes good absorption of information on the page, without being distracted by flashing banners, pop-up notifications and other interactive elements that website owners love to abuse.

By opening an article in Edge and switching it to reading mode, the browser will automatically turn off the display of all unnecessary content, optimize text and images for easy reading, turning a colorful site page into a discreet page from a book containing only text and important illustrations.

Edge tools let you draw, highlight text, erase edits, add notes, and copy portions of a web page. The Save button allows you to save a note to Microsoft OneNote, a favorite, or a reading list. This function will be especially convenient for owners of touch devices, where you can use a stylus or finger to mark the desired areas on the page and write text as you would with a regular pen on paper.

What else is interesting?

I liked the appearance of the new browser Private mode. New InPrivate Window - Opens a browser window similar to Chrome's Incognito mode. When working in such a window, the cache, browsing history, and cookies are not saved.

I wrote above that Windows 10 still has IE 11. If you need to view a web page in Internet Explorer, just click the Edge menu button and select the “Open in Internet Explorer” option. Internet Explorer itself can be launched through the “Start” menu, the “All applications” list, the “Accessories - Windows” section. An old browser may be needed, for example, to use legacy web applications that require plugins like Java or Silverlight.

In the settings there is also an option to disable the use of Adobe Flash Player. If for some reason you do not like this player, you can easily disable it. However, then you need to be prepared that you will not be able to open all sites.

What am I missing?

Undoubtedly, the new browser from Microsoft is imperfect and cannot yet compete with the same Google Chrome and Firefox. Many things still need to be fixed and added. First of all, we are talking about extensions. We have all become accustomed to them a long time ago, and I was surprised why Microsoft didn’t think about it right away. This would enable them to avoid misunderstandings and ridicule. Lately things have started to change for the better. The latest Insider build 14291 introduced the first extensions for the new Mouse Gestures browser, Microsoft Translator, and Reddit Engagement Suite. And in the Store it became possible to download another Page Analyzer extension. True, you can download it, but you can’t use it yet. But it looks like the ice has broken and this gives us hope.

Microsoft Edge browser lacks support for multiple user profiles. In Google Chrome, for example, this option is available and all user settings are restored in the browser: browsing history, theme, bookmarks, saved passwords, plugins and extensions. Without a doubt, this is a very useful feature, especially on computers that are used by several people. We hope that one day it will appear in Microsoft Edge.

One thing really upset me about the browser. It turns out that Microsoft Edge doesn't store your browsing history in a convenient list. Yes, you can go to the menu, click on the line with recently closed tabs and reopen any of them, but if you want to restore a dozen tabs, you will have to go to this menu a dozen times, which cannot be called practical.

I don’t understand why, having a gorgeous Translator, it was impossible to immediately install automatic translation of pages in it. I'm not sure that most users are polyglots and can read articles in a foreign language fluently. The extension, as I wrote above, appeared, but we had to think about it during release.

The browser does not open. What to do?

Some users have encountered the problem that the Microsoft Edge browser simply does not open. What to do in this case? You need to reset your browser settings. For this:

Pros and cons of the Microsoft Edge browser

We all already have our own preferences and needs when working in the browser. Admittedly, while the Microsoft Edge browser may be attractive for its speed and minimalist design, very few people use it as their main browser. But for inexperienced or new users, Edge will easily become indispensable in a Windows 10 environment.

I decided to describe all the pros and cons of the browser.

pros

  • high page opening speed;
  • quick browser launch;
  • simple and convenient design;
  • Reading mode that disables advertising;
  • ability to create notes;
  • fast sending of links

Minuses

  • high RAM consumption;
  • can only be used in a Windows environment;
  • no extensions available

In conclusion, I would like to say that, despite the shortcomings of the Microsoft Edge browser, it will eventually be able to become your favorite browser. Undoubtedly, the choice is yours and depends only on your decision.

As you know, the developers of the tenth modification of Windows, in order to popularize their software products for working on the Internet, resorted to a very interesting trick: instead of the boring and controversial Internet Explorer browser, they made a new development called Microsoft Edge as the default browser.

It is not possible to disable or remove this browser from the system, since this program is “hard-wired” into the system. Yes, indeed, in a sense this is true. However, if you know some non-standard features of Windows or use third-party software, you can get rid of this browser quite easily. This will be discussed further. But first, let's figure out why many people don't want to use it. How to remove Microsoft Edge?

Issues of virus impact on the browser

The most unpleasant thing, as noted by most users and experts, is that it is these two browsers built into Windows that are most susceptible to infection by various kinds of advertising virus applets.

How to remove ads in Microsoft Edge? You can use the standard method, which includes uninstalling the main virus program, cleaning the remaining registry keys, files and folders, as well as various kinds of annotations that can be included in the properties of the program shortcut after the EXE extension and the file name in the field indicating the full path to its location (you can also use a complete reset of your browser settings). This technique, by the way, is suitable for all browsers without exception who have been exposed to advertising viruses. They practically do not affect the basic parameters of the operating system.

Is it possible to remove the Microsoft Edge browser from the system?

When figuring out whether this can be done in general, one should start from the fact that there is an opinion among users that it is impossible to perform such actions using the standard tools of the system. This is wrong. There are at least two methods to completely get rid of this browser.

If you decide to use a radical method, first in Explorer you should find the browser folder, which is located in the SystemApps directory of the system root directory, then use the RMB menu to call the properties section and set the “Read Only” attribute for it if it is not set to default.

After this, in the folder itself you need to rename EdgeCP and Microsoft Edge, assigning them arbitrary names. Only then can you delete the entire directory.

Note: Sometimes permission from the TrustedInstaller service may be required, and if it is impossible to delete a directory, you should use the Unlocker utility to unlock access to it.

How to remove using Windows?

Now let's see how to remove Microsoft Edge in another, no less effective way. Few people know, but the best tool for uninstalling pre-installed Windows programs is PowerShell, which can be called an extended analogue of the command line.

Having called the console with the same command in the “Run” menu, you first need to enter the line Get-AppxPackage, which will display a list of all installed programs, then find the link to the browser and copy the name parameter of the full version of the package into the FullPackageName field. Now enter the command Get-AppxPackageName, enter the full name separated by a space, and then the combination “| Remove-AppxPackage" (without quotes). Upon completion of all actions, to be sure, you should completely reboot the computer system.

Using third party utilities

Finally, when talking about how to remove Microsoft Edge, special attention should be paid to specialized utilities. In the simplest situation, when you do not need to uninstall, but only disable the browser, you can use the Edge Blocker program.

How to remove Microsoft Edge? To completely remove the browser, it is better to use uninstaller programs like iObit Uninstaller. In the application, you need to go to the Windows programs section, find the browser you are looking for in the list and click the button with the image of a trash can to start uninstalling the browser, after which both the main and remaining components of the program will be removed.

Note: These two methods are very commonly used to uninstall any pre-installed programs. In the case of browsers, you should initially set the browser that is used to open Internet pages as the default application, since immediately after uninstalling Edge, the system will switch to Internet Explorer.

The first launch of Microsoft Edge leaves a lasting impression. You have never seen such a quick start in any browser. It’s clear that Chrome and Firefox, loaded with extensions, themes and plugins, cannot show such agility, but it still looks very convincing.

Much the same can be said about the responsiveness of the interface. Opening new tabs and switching between them is simply instantaneous. But with the speed of opening pages the situation is not so clear. As numerous comparisons show (, ,), surfing speed in the new browser is practically no different from its competitors. However, this can also be considered an achievement, right?

2. Built-in reader mode and reading list

Microsoft Edge is great for all lovers of comfortable reading. It provides a special viewing mode, when activated, the page is cleared of all unnecessary things and only text and illustrations remain on it. The page background and font size used in reading mode can be selected in the program settings.

In addition, you can save pages that interest you in a special reading list, the panel of which appears on the right after clicking the corresponding button on the toolbar. It is a bit like the Pocket reading list and contains links to the necessary pages with titles and covers.

3. Security

Yes, remembering Microsoft Explorer, this is hard to believe. But, according to the developers, they have drawn conclusions from past mistakes and taken all measures to protect their browser from hacking. The built-in SmartScreen security screen checks all sites you open and can block potentially dangerous ones. In addition, all pages are opened in separate processes, each of which is isolated from the rest of the system and runs in the so-called sandbox. So, even if something happens to the browser, the operating system and your data will remain safe.

4. User-friendly interface

I don’t know about you, but I really like the Microsoft Edge interface. It has a minimalistic design that fits perfectly into the overall look of Windows 10. The toolbar contains only the most necessary buttons, and everything else is hidden in a panel that appears on the right. By the way, this panel can be fixed permanently in much the same way as the sidebar works in Firefox, and more recently in Opera. It’s very convenient, especially if developers eventually teach this panel to display not only bookmarks, downloads and reading list, but also other content.

5. Editing mode

And a big fly in the ointment

Despite all the above advantages, the new Windows 10 browser also has a big drawback. It desperately lacks extension support. Yes, the available functions are interesting, the speed is good, the interface is pleasant, but this is not enough! Only full support for extensions can make Microsoft Edge a real participant in the competition. However, Microsoft understands this and promises to present the world with the first extensions for Edge in the fall. So there's not long to wait.

Will you decide to ditch your favorite browser and switch to Microsoft Edge if extensions appear in it?
