Continuing the series of materials about the top line of Samsung TVs of 2016, we will talk here about the KS7500 - the middle model in the series with a curved display, which, in addition, has all the trump cards of SUHD 2016: Quantum Dot Display backlight, HDR 1000, Smart TV and 360 design °. Unlike the KS8000/9000 models, it uses fewer backlight units - 576 versus 1112, and its design is slightly different.

This time we will focus on design in the conversation, touching on TVs both the 7000 series and the 8000/9000 series - we will talk about the concept, what unites them, and what is different about them.

⇡ Video review of the 2016 Samsung SUHD line

360° design

Any gadget is greeted by its clothes - appearance. The situation with TV is no different. On the one hand, yes, it’s just a big screen. On the other hand, it is one of the central elements of the interior, which you pay attention to one way or another. And he should look the part. The Samsung SUHD 2016 is in complete order with its design, and this applies to both the front side, which is visible to everyone at all times, and the back panel.

The 2016 concept was named “360° Design” - for the visual flow of panels into one another and an absolutely “clean” back part, which is missing its own display. The connectors, presented in a minimal number on the case, are located under a special cover, and most of them are placed on a special block, which is located to the side of the panel. Hardware keys and an IR signal receiver are hidden at the bottom. On the case itself we see only the power cable connector.

Speakers hidden in the boom on the KS9000 model

In the KS7000/7500 models, the speaker slots are still clearly visible - in the flagship KS8000/9000 devices they are already hidden under a rod for wall or desktop placement of the device. Two more differences between these models are the design of the back wall (thicker glossy for the 7000s and very thin with a characteristic texture for the 8000/9000s) and the shape of the leg. It’s worth mentioning separately.

When the KS8000/9000 are placed on a surface on a metal tripod, the unusual shape makes it appear as if they are floating in the air.

The KS7000/7500 has two legs - they are smaller here and hold the panel at the edges.

The entire Samsung SUHD 2016 lineup is distinguished by extremely thin metal frames around the display - nothing distracts from the picture. There is essentially one visual accent - a luminous inscription in the center at the bottom of the frame.

The side of the frame is also of minimal thickness, but still the need to place both speakers and backlight in the case over the entire area of the LCD panel adds millimeters to it, albeit slightly. We get a TV with a diagonal of 49 to 78 inches and a thickness of 5 centimeters! When placed either on a wall or on a nightstand, it takes up minimal space and is one of the thinnest LCD TVs available today.

If you purchase a curved Samsung SUHD 2016, this figure, of course, increases - in this case to 14.5 centimeters.

Let's move on to the story about the Samsung KS7500 itself.

Ergonomics and interfaces

We have already described the design in detail above; here we will only touch on the specific features of the KS7500. This is a TV with a glossy back surface and a curved display - it looks a little less luxurious than older models, and then only when looking at the back or the legs. The front panel itself is also practically frameless and lined with metal and, naturally, glass.

The interface platform is also hidden under a cover and contains only USB, Ethernet, a CI service connector and a One Connect port, through which a special unit is connected to the TV. It already includes everything you need; no one can complain about the lack of connectors: 4 × HDMI, 2 × USB, optical audio jack, antenna connectors.

The One Connect unit is compact, does not attract unnecessary attention and is designed in the style of a TV - however, its glossy surface collects dust well, so you will have to wipe it regularly.

The sound from the speakers is output back; in the KS7500 they are no longer rhymed with a metal mounting rod; their slots are easy to notice right away.

The KS7500 model comes with displays of three diagonals: 49, 55 and 65 inches.

SmartTV and remote control

The Smart TV system is the same for all TVs in the Samsung SUHD 2016 line; there are no differences between the top-end KS9000 and KS7500. The main features of the system are a quad-core processor, which provides not only shell speed and multitasking, but also extremely high-quality processing of signals coming from external sources; own operating system based on Tizen OS; the ability to view recommendations from other services without leaving the current view.

The interface is extremely friendly, simple and transparent, and the range of services is extensive: okko, ivi, Youtube and so on.

As in previous years, the TV can recognize voice commands, but now this is not the focus. A key role is played by a non-standard remote control, equipped with a minimum of keys. However, even switching channels with its help is convenient, not to mention navigating through various menus. It is ergonomically well thought out, and working with the remote control is extremely pleasant.

Someone will be surprised by its appearance - it does not look like the usual television remote control with many buttons. The fact is that this is a universal solution: the Smart Hub concept allows you to use it to control many devices at once: the TV recognizes what exactly is connected to its ports and allows you to command the receiver, Blu-ray player and other connected gadgets through a single menu. Very comfortably.

You can freely connect peripherals to the TV itself: keyboard, mouse, gamepad. The latter is necessary for the Gamefly gaming service, which provides streaming access to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One level content.

The KS7500 has a built-in media player that can play files in MKV, MP4 and M2TS containers from an external drive or other source of information, with full HDR support.

The TV provides access to both wired Internet (the required port is right on the body, and not in One Connect), and to Wi-Fi - both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are available, there will be no problems with speed - according to at least related to the limitations of the KS7500. The system also has a built-in antivirus, so you don’t have to worry about your TV being hacked.

Picture

The KS7500 uses a VA-type TFT panel with 576 Quantum Dots Display LED backlight units. We talked about this technology in detail in the first review of the series, dedicated to the KS9000 model. In short: quantum dots used in the backlight allow you to achieve full 10-bit color with support for 1 billion shades. The color rendition of the panel will not leave anyone indifferent. And only in a good way.

Another key innovation that the KS7500 received along with the rest of the SUHD 2016 lineup is full support for HDR 1000 technology. We, in turn, talked about it in detail in the KS8000 review. Due to the ability to provide a peak brightness of 1000 nits and local backlighting, which allows you to produce deep blacks without flare at certain points, we get an extremely wide dynamic range. In order to experience this, you need the right content - but soon there will be no shortage of it.

Let’s add that you can safely watch TV at any time of the day: there will be no problems with either brightness or glare, thanks to the Ultra Black layer - even in a store, reflections and glare are not too noticeable.

The TV's customization options are comprehensive - you can literally change the picture parameters in one or two clicks directly from the main menu of Smart TV, and calibrate the sound with the picture in detail through the settings menu.

The panel is capable of producing a static contrast of about 3500:1–4000:1. Excellent performance for an LCD TV. In older models, both static and especially dynamic contrast are even higher due to the use of a larger number of backlight zones - but that’s why they are flagships.

The physical resolution of the KS7500 panel is 3840 × 2160 - full Ultra HD. A special beauty of the Samsung SUHD 2016 family of TVs is the extreme smoothness of motion display and response time. These are only visual, subjective impressions, but no artifacts, smears or trails are noticeable. There will be no problems in game mode either.

The KS7500 curved panel uses Auto Depth Enhancer technology, which enhances the depth of each plane individually and minimizes optical distortion. There will be no problems associated with using this type of display, and the level of immersion will increase.

Conclusion

Samsung KS7500 is the middle option from the SUHD 2016 lineup. This is the easiest way to get the most current TV of our time, with a curved display, 4K resolution, support for 10-bit color reproduction and HDR 1000. The differences from older models are minimal: a slightly simpler design, and This primarily concerns the rear panel, and a smaller number of carpet lighting units, which affects the contrast level - but not too significantly.

Currently, there are several types of screens. Cathode ray tube televisions (CRT televisions,CRT)- the oldest type. The principle of operation is based on the glow of a phosphor when a stream of electrons is emitted onto it. The first CRT televisions appeared in the early 30s of the last century and have been continuously improved since then. Thus, these TVs have become the standard to which all other types are compared. No other technology can create the same combination of color reproduction, brightness, contrast and viewing angle. While other types of screens may outperform CRT TVs in one or two of these areas, none can provide complete superiority. The weaknesses of CRT TVs include their large depth, heavy weight, and technological limitations on the maximum diagonal size (about 32-38 inches). However, the budget nature of such TVs makes them quite popular.

IN plasma TVs The image is formed by cones containing a gas that emits ultraviolet rays when electricity is applied. These rays cause the phosphorus layer to glow. Plasma TVs, as a rule, have large diagonals (32-80 inches) and allow not only installation on a plane, but also hanging on a wall or a special bracket. The first models of plasma panels had a rather short service life, but today the service life reaches 20-25 thousand hours. In terms of image quality, plasma TVs are close to CRT TVs. They provide rich, vibrant colors, high contrast and brightness. Disadvantages include high energy consumption and heat generation, as well as fragility and a high degree of vulnerability if handled carelessly. In addition, you need to watch such TVs from fairly large distances, since at close range a large pixel pitch is clearly visible - accordingly, not every room is suitable for comfortable viewing.

IN liquid crystal (LCD,LCD) TVs polarized crystals are used. These crystals are placed in front of a constant light source - usually a fluorescent lamp. When electricity is passed through the crystals, some of the light from the lamp is blocked - more electricity forces the crystals to block more light. Crystals grouped in three (red, green, blue) form a pixel and allow you to create different colors. LCD TVs come in a wide range of sizes (7-57 inches). These are the thinnest of thin screen TVs. Compared to plasma, LCD TVs weigh less and are more reliable. However, LCD TVs lose in color reproduction, black quality, and their movements are a little blurred due to low shutter speeds.

IN projection TVs inside on a small CRT or LCD display and projected onto a large screen using a mirror. Rear-projection TVs have many of the advantages of CRT TVs: they're bright, have accurate tones, and can produce good, deep blacks. They are cheaper than other types of large screen TVs. However, they are usually floor-standing, quite bulky and take up a lot of space.

LED-backlit TVs. Unlike traditional technology, where the matrix is illuminated using cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL), LED TVs The light source is LEDs. Their use significantly increases image contrast, makes it possible to make the TV body thinner, and also reduce energy consumption.

OLED. Unlike traditional LED screens, an OLED screen (based on organic light-emitting diode technology) does not require a backlight. This screen has a special layer that emits light when an electric current passes through it. This results in an ultra-thin screen that takes up much less space. In addition, the new technology saves energy: without a backlight, the screen needs less electricity, which has a positive effect on both the environment and the light bill you pay.
