Bicycle route app. Mobile applications for cyclists

In this review:

BikeComputer is a navigator for cycling trips with the ability to work with maps offline.

SpeedView GPS Speedometer - speedometer for athletes.

Bike Repair is a mobile guide to bicycle repair.

My Tracks is a tracker of your activity from Google.

Bicycle Light - front and rear signal for riding in the dark.

This is not the first time we have addressed the topic of useful mobile programs for cycling enthusiasts ( ). And this is not at all surprising, because cycling rightfully shares with running the first place among the most popular and useful types of physical activity. In addition, for many it is an environmentally friendly, convenient and favorite form of transport, or simply a great way to have fun. Therefore, we continue to introduce you to interesting programs for Android that will be of interest to both beginners and experienced cyclists.

BikeComputer

This application can serve as a full-fledged navigator during your cycling trips. Firstly, it, like many others, can track your speed, distance traveled, distance to home, driving time, battery capacity and much more. Secondly, BikeComputer can show your current location on the map, so you definitely won’t get lost in an unfamiliar place. But unlike its competitors, this program can work with pre-loaded map files, so you don't need a constant Internet connection. Agree that this is quite a useful property if you get into the wilds somewhere. And thirdly, the program will help you plan a route before your trip, indicating the elevation gain and length, so you can assess the difficulty of the track before the trip. The application is Russified.

SpeedView GPS Speedometer

The main purpose of this application is to track and record your speed. It is designed in the form of a corresponding sensor from the dashboard of a car or motorcycle. In addition to the current speed value, it can also show a graph of its changes over the previous few minutes, as well as signal when it goes beyond the values you set. The program will be of interest primarily to athletes who need to strictly adhere to the speed regime of their training.

Bike Repair

A bicycle, like any other complex technical device, has a tendency to break down sometimes. Moreover, as a rule, this happens unexpectedly and at the most inopportune time. If you drive on the paths around your home, then a breakdown is not a big deal for you. But if you like to ride in remote and deserted places, or maybe even plan a real big bike trip, then it’s better to take care of everything in advance. Of course, you need to take with you the necessary repair kit and tools, but this is not enough. It is also important to know how to change, correct or replace this or that part. Bike Repair is an illustrated guide to bicycle repair that will show you step-by-step how to deal with problems. Yes, you need English.

My tracks

Despite the wave of closures of Google's unprofitable side services, some of them continue to exist as open source projects and are supported by the user community. For example, My Tracks is a program that can track the distance traveled, time, speed, route length and ascent height. Data can be viewed in real time or saved for later use. Adding waypoints is supported and voice alerts are available. Well, as a bonus from Google, the application received excellent integration with other company services, for example, saving data to Google Drive, exporting to Google Maps or Google Spreadsheets, sharing to Google+.

Bicycle Light

Safety regulations strongly recommend that we have working reflectors and flashing lights on our bikes on every trip. Anyone who has ever driven on roads with vehicles at night will be able to confirm to you that this measure can really prevent an accident and save your life. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you have no alarm systems or are broken, then You can replace them using a simple Bicycle light program. It simulates the front (white) or rear (red) signal light of your bike.

Most outdoor enthusiasts prefer to spend time in the park, especially in the summer. Regular cycling is one of the best ways to keep fit and have fun. The latest technologies and applications for electronic devices are designed to make cycling more convenient and fun. Which of the recently developed programs are especially interesting for cycling enthusiasts?

Cycling computers

These devices can count the number of wheel revolutions to indicate to their owner the average and maximum speed, distance and other parameters. Some models have a built-in GPS, which helps save the history of the routes the cyclist has ridden and statistics.

Unfortunately, cycling computers are an expensive luxury that not everyone can afford. The same cannot be said about special applications that have all the necessary functions of expensive models of cycling computers. To see all the benefits of such programs, you do not need to purchase any special equipment, you only need a smartphone and a holder to attach it to your bike.

Runtastic Road Bike 3.5

This application was created by an experienced developer Runtastic, who is located in Austria. It will be an excellent accompaniment while cycling.

To start working, you must log in. Creating an account in the application is not so difficult; you can use your existing Facebook or Google+ account. In the next step, you will need to enter your personal data (date of birth), as well as body parameters, which include height, weight, etc. Thanks to this, the program will be able to correctly calculate in the future how many calories the user has consumed or gained.

In Runtastic Road Bike you can choose the type of bike, for example it can be road, road or trainer. In addition, there are different modes where you can determine whether the application will work as a regular GPS navigator, or whether the user will set a goal to burn a certain number of calories, travel a certain number of kilometers, or spend a certain time on a bicycle.

The Russian interface of the application is convenient and understandable. In training mode, the screen is divided into two parts. At the top are the basic settings, such as the speed at which the bike moves, how far it travels, how many calories are lost, and the time the user spent on the journey.

At the bottom of the screen there are several tabs with useful information and functions. For example, you can play your favorite music right in the program, and they function. There is also a map that can be easily enlarged. The third tab contains weather information (humidity level, wind, precipitation, when is sunrise and sunset).

Runtastic Road Bike runs in the background. There are also voice prompts while driving, but, unfortunately, there is no Russian language. The accuracy and quality of measurements depends on the quality of the user's electronic device.

Reporting and accessories

The program works in paid and free versions. The first option opens up more possibilities for the user, and also saves data on trips that were made several months ago, unlike the demo version, which provides information only for the last 30 days. To find out more detailed statistics of your workouts, you can go to the official website of the developer runtastic.com, but for this you need to log in.

The Runtastic Road Bike app supports external accessories. For example, these could be sensors that control wheel rotation and cadence, also a heart rate meter and, of course, a watch on Android Wear. You can purchase these add-ons for about $50 on Amazon.

If applications such as Jawbone, Google Fit and UP, MyFitnessPal are installed on the user’s smartphone, then information and personal parameters from them can be synchronized with Runtastic.

The official Runtastic website is a kind of social fitness network where you can leave your results and add them in real time. Sharing your performance with others and seeing their achievements can be a great way to motivate yourself to continue training.

The paid PRO version of the program has many advantages. For example, there are no annoying ads, and the statistics are more extensive. And the auto pause function allows you to stop the recording process without user intervention as soon as the bike stops. To take advantage of all the benefits of the extended version, you need to pay 199 rubles one-time.

Runtastic Mountain Bike GPS 3.5

This application is identical to Road Bike GPS. But its peculiarity is its orientation towards rough terrain with sudden changes in altitude. This indicator is taken into account when statistics are compiled.

CycleDroid - cycling computer 1.9.9

CycleDroid is a simple and free cycling computer with wide functionality.

A special feature of the application is that there is no need to log in. Since it does not have a synchronization function, all data must be filled in manually. The main menu contains the trip log.

In training mode everything is very simple. There are four tabs, each with 6 squares. They contain information about speed, calories, amount of oxygen consumed, etc. There is also an auto-pause function, brightening the display and the ability to share your results on a social network. When you turn on the Google map, route and traffic options are not shown.

To see and evaluate the results of trips, the application displays several cells with basic information.

Although the application interface is primitive, this is not its drawback. Due to the absence of a paid version and advertising, CycleDroid with full functionality is available to all users.

MapMyRide 17.6.2

The application was developed by the American sports brand Under Armour. It can serve as an alternative version of the Runtastic Road Bike GPS program.

Identical to other apps of this type, MapMyRide will ask the user to log in first. To do this, you can use either your email or the social network Facebook. Next, you need to indicate your parameters and gender.

A special feature of the application is its English-language interface, which may not be convenient for everyone to work with. The side menu has many different sections to choose from.

The main training screen is a map that can be used as a navigator to navigate the area. The parameters include an indication of speed, how many calories are burned, travel time and distance traveled by the bike. The functionality of the application includes hints in audio mode, although the voice is not of very high quality and Russian words slip through the English language. However, the automatic pause mode works well.

For greater comfort, additional accessories can be used in parallel with the application. For example, these could be heart rate monitors, pedometers, wheel and cadence sensors, and scales. They connect to the device using ANT+ and Bluetooth. To save data about your physical activity and achievements, you need to set up synchronization with fitness services such as Google Fit, etc.

From the list of available routes for the trip, you can choose one that has already been explored by other cyclists.

MapMyRide is a free program that has all the necessary features. However, the advanced version has even more useful additions, including detailed trip planning, analysis and much more. The cost of use for 30 days is 210 rubles, and for a year - 1056 rubles.

Bike Tour Maps

Today, cycling is a relatively new sport for the countries of the former CIS, but it is actively gaining popularity. Physical activity in the fresh air is very beneficial for the entire human body; such cardio exercises are very good at relieving fatigue, helping to take a break from everyday problems and restoring. Going on a bike tour on the weekend gives you energy for the entire work week and a lot of impressions that you will remember for a lifetime!

For fans of this sport, developers are starting to compile maps that show all the routes for cyclists. Below, we bring to your attention an overview of some of them.

Bikemap

The Bikemap application is a service that stores routes for cyclists. Using it, it is easy to navigate the area, study it and plan further trips.

The main menu of the program contains a list of routes located nearby. On the map you can easily find not only large cities, but also small villages. However, the application does not work in Russian.

In the list of maps you can sort routes both by duration and by distance from the point of departure. Here you also have the opportunity to choose a road, depending on its surface. Modes include highway, city and mountain. On the main map you can see all available routes that were compiled by the users themselves. Each tour has a comment; the user also has the opportunity to write his own review.

The application works on the same principle as navigators for pedestrians. Travel time shows how many minutes or hours it will take to get to your destination at bicycle speed. If the user plans to create his own route, he should visit the official website of the program.

The service is complemented by a standard cycling computer mode, which indicates the level of elevation, distance, speed of the bike, as well as the time spent in motion.

The regular version of the program works only in online mode. To see all the maps or receive voice navigation tips without an Internet connection, you need to pay for bikemap premium, the cost of which for one month is 365 rubles, and for a year - 2122 rubles. Payment is accepted only through Mastercard and Visa cards, but they promise to add several more methods.

In this case, it is possible to use a trial period for one week. When you connect offline mode, a list of available places appears, but Russia is not in it, there is Ukraine.

Repair instructions and traffic rules manual

Cyclists often experience breakdowns while traveling. Not everyone knows how to replace or temporarily seal a broken tube, much less how to rebuild the rear wheel hub! Application developers took care of this too, creating special applications for Android, where you can read detailed instructions with pictures. To do this, you just need to select the desired article and open it to study.

Bicycle repair 0.7

The bike seems to be very simple in design. But in fact, there are a large number of components in it that you need to understand well. For this purpose, the Bicycle Repair program was created. It includes articles that describe how to maintain and repair this vehicle.

The main feature of the application is that it does not require an Internet connection. All articles have a lot of illustrations where you can see every action. The interface is designed so that white text is placed on a turquoise background. This is not for everyone, but nothing can be changed. In addition, while the program is running, advertising appears, which cannot be eliminated.

Bicycle traffic rules 1.6.0

To ride a bicycle safely and not harm your health, you need to know the rules of the road. The Velo Traffic Regulations program helps with this. Using the links below, you can download programs that contain all the existing rules specifically for cyclists in Ukraine and Russia.

All rules are divided into several groups, for example, “prohibited!”, “passing through intersections,” “general provisions,” etc. In addition, Velo SDA has additional information about fines, region codes, Code of Administrative Offences, etc.

The application works according to the old version, but the rules given in it are still relevant. The main advantage of the program is that it does not need the Internet to work.

In today's selection, Lenta.ru has collected applications for Android and iOS that can be useful to cyclists - and such, despite the almost complete lack of infrastructure and bike paths and six months of cold weather, are still found in Russia. Especially on the May holidays.

Despite the apparent diversity, not all programs can be recommended to the domestic cyclist. Firstly, they are mostly written by foreign developers and have not been translated into Russian. A user who has little command of, say, German or English can easily play a game in this language (if text is not a key part of it), but he is unlikely to be able to read reference books - for example, the same Bike Doctor. Secondly, the notorious lack of cycling infrastructure makes it meaningless for trip planners. The program, being launched on a smartphone, looks around in fear and reports that it sees the nearest bike path, at best, somewhere in a couple of thousand kilometers.

That leaves cycling computers. As we already mentioned, they work via GPS, so there are two things to consider when using them. First, the programs are unsuitable for long bike rides (more than four hours), since they consume the device’s battery. Secondly, during a trip, the smartphone must be placed so that nothing prevents it from contacting satellites: ideally - in a special holder on the handlebars of a bicycle (in this case, you can listen to voice commands and track your performance in real time), in extreme cases - in the outer pocket of the backpack.

"My tracks"

Platforms: Android
Price: for free
Publisher: Google

Strictly speaking, this is not a specialized cycling computer, but a universal program for recording routes using GPS - so it can be used by pedestrians, runners, tourists, and motorists.

The finished track can be saved to the drive in GPX, KML, CSV or TCX formats (your choice), displayed on Google Maps or exported to the cloud file storage “Disk”. Allows the connection of external sensors (heart rate monitors) via Bluetooth, supports markers (points that can be placed on the map while driving) and voice notifications.

The disadvantages of the program include the connection to Google services and the inability to work with offline maps - if you go to places where there is no Wi-Fi or mobile Internet, the track will continue to be written, but the map will not be displayed on the phone screen.

VeloDroid

Platforms: Android
Price: trial version - free, full version - 99 rubles
Publisher: dbdb designs

A laconic cycling computer for Android - without a Russian interface, but quite understandable and visual. The application displays indicators (time, speed, altitude, slope) while riding (there is an option “Keep the screen on”), counts intervals, keeps a log of trips and compiles general statistics. Tracks are saved and displayed on Google maps with two markers - the point of maximum speed and the point of highest altitude (sometimes it fibs with speed).

As in "My Tracks", routes can be saved in GPX, KML, CSV and TCX, and the track file can be sent to a file storage or email. The program automatically names the tracks according to the areas the user has traveled through, and sometimes makes funny mistakes - for example, “Jaroslawski boksal”.

The app can be “linked” to the RideWithGPS cycling website and upload data there. The website shows a detailed history of each trip. It is interesting that information about the same walk in the application and on the website may differ - for example, the program displays a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour, and the site displays 28 kilometers per hour.

In addition, RideWithGPS allows you to create profiles for each of your bikes, supplement your tracks with photos taken during the trip, and find like-minded people living nearby.

The trial version of Velodroid differs from the full version only in that it works for twenty trips. This approach is more profitable than the mileage limit adopted in some mobile cycling computers (I work for the first four kilometers and then switch off).

VeloDroid is suitable for cyclists who do not practice other sports and do not bother with diets and weight loss: the program does not have special tools for calculating kilocalories “burned” during the ride.

Runtastic

Platforms: Android (Road , Mountain), iOS (Road , Mountain)
Price: basic version - free, full version - 169-170 rubles
Publisher: Runtastic

The application exists in two versions: Mountain Bike (for mountain bike owners) and Road Bike (for road bike owners). The interface in both cases is almost identical: the difference is mainly in the method of calculating calories burned. The free program can only do the most basic things - record trips and keep statistics; for everything else, the paid PRO version is required.

Perhaps the most important thing that PRO gives is the ability to save a fragment of a map (Open Street Map) to your device in order to work with it in the absence of the Internet. In addition, the program adds voice guidance (there is no Russian language), the ability to connect wireless external sensors (Runtastic itself sells them), a workout planner, and in the Android version there is also a function for displaying a track in Google Earth.

Cycling data is stored on the Runtastic website and synchronized between different devices.

The main disadvantage of the program is the inability to export tracks directly from the mobile application (you need to go to the website). Runtastic’s reluctance to work without registration is also a little annoying (you need to log in via Twitter, Facebook or the program’s own system) and the “half-translation” - in the Russian version, some menu items are still displayed in English.

Endomondo

Platforms: Android, iOS
Price: basic version - free, full version - 155-169 rubles
Publisher: Endomondo

Endomondo is probably one of the most popular sports programs. It can track a variety of “activities” - from kiting and kayaking to martial arts. Cyclists have a choice of three types of training: Cycling, Mountain Biking and Cycling.

The application focuses on the “physical” (calories burned and hydration) and “social” (joint training and competition with friends) components of sports. Due to the popularity of Endomondo, including in Russia, the chance of finding friends in the service is really high.

The program is primarily suitable for those who alternate between different types of physical exercises. Endomondo, according to our observations, does not write tracks very accurately, and besides, like Runtastic, it does not provide the ability to export them without the help of the site.

"Bicycle in the city"

Platforms: Android
Price: free
Publisher: Maratische

A mobile reference book for people involved in road accidents is one of the few domestic attempts to create an application for cyclists. The attempt was not very successful: “Bicycle in the City” is just a lot of poorly laid out white text with errors on a mournful black background and a few pictures.

However, the author of the program honestly admits that his product is simply a paper booklet translated into a mobile application format, which was once compiled and distributed to drivers by St. Petersburg cyclists on the roads.

The program was last updated in September 2012. The authors plan to include a “Traffic Rules for Cyclists” section in the project, but it is unclear whether this idea will be realized or whether the program has been abandoned completely. If the creators find the strength to bring “Bicycle” to fruition, it could turn out interesting.

In Belarus, moving around the city by bicycle is gradually becoming fashionable. Such walks not only allow you to save on gasoline and car maintenance, but also strengthen your body with physical activity. A smartphone will help make trips around the city even more comfortable. IT.TUT.BY presents six mobile applications for bicycle owners.

Onbike

A mobile program from the Onbike.by project that allows you to improve the lives of Minsk cyclists. The application allows you to view a map of Minsk, find out the location of bicycle parking, workshops, rental points, as well as stores selling bicycles and accessories.

The developers promise that only the latest and most relevant information will be provided. At the moment, the program is available only for iPhone owners, but in the future you can expect it to appear on Google Play.

Velocity

An application from the mobile operator velcom has similar functionality. In addition to the city map (11 settlements of the Republic of Belarus are currently available), you can find out information about planned group cycling rides, bicycle workshops, the nearest emergency rooms and rental points.

Yandex cards

If you are a fan of solo bike rides and are ready to ride from dawn to dusk, then it would be a good idea to use your phone as a navigator. A convenient option for residents of the Republic of Belarus will be a mapping service from Yandex.

The application is convenient for its ability to download offline city maps, which will help save traffic and smartphone battery power.

Velodroid

This application will help turn your smartphone into a cycling computer. The program can display various indicators while driving (speed, time, incline), count intervals and keep a log of trips in report form. If desired, users can save trip tracks to Google Maps.

In addition, the application allows you to share your results with friends on Facebook and Twitter, as well as synchronize data with the RideWithGPS service for subsequent analysis.

Of the minuses, it is worth noting that the program does not support the Russian language and is only available to users of Android smartphones. Google Play has a free trial and a paid version.

Endomondo

An application developed by Danish enthusiasts based on their sports resource and designed not only to store personal training data, but also to serve as a kind of social network with a sports focus.

The principle of operation of the application is quite simple. You need to select your sport and click the "Start" button. After this, the program will record your statistics and, using GPS, record your travel routes on Google Maps.

In addition to cycling, the program will allow you to track your training regime in various disciplines: from mountaineering to squash and hockey. The application is available for Android, iOS and WP8, and there is a free and paid PRO version (allows you to create a personal training plan, connect a heart rate monitor and view weather data in training logs).

Strava

Unlike the popular trackers Runtastic and Endomondo, this program was originally made for bicycle enthusiasts. In addition to the default statistics collection capabilities, the program has more advanced social functionality.

"Privacy Zone" allows you to set invisible zones over certain areas of the map, which will hide your home or place of work from the eyes of other users. Thanks to integration with Instagram, you can quickly publish photos from the workouts themselves to this social network.

An interesting solution was the “King of Mountain” function. If you often cross paths with friends on bike rides in certain places, then the app can add a competitive element to your rides. The sections are divided into certain segments, for which there are constant battles between cyclists in order to capture them and gain the status of “king of the hill”.

The application is available for iOS and Android, and also has free and premium (paid) versions.

Summer is in full swing, the cycling season has long been open. All that remains is to add a couple of applications to your iPhone that may be useful while traveling.

1. Endomondo

Endomondo- a real sports all-rounder, the application is designed for running, cycling, walking, fitness. A personal virtual trainer represented by the program will carefully monitor the progress of the lesson, track various indicators and take into account every calorie burned, as well as give advice. There is support for other advanced functions: diaries, communication with other users, and even individual sports accessories. Endomondo can be installed on Apple Watch, and can also be synchronized with other sports utilities from the App Store. The only noticeable drawback is the need for a subscription, which is not cheap at all.

2. Strava

The next application in our collection is called Strava. Its focus is narrower: runners and cyclists. However, its key feature is all kinds of user motivation. Here you will find a lot of different achievements, a competitive element, and a strong social component. Strava lets you create your own cycling routes to share with other users, and also has a version for Apple Watch. Accounting for each session is, of course, present at its best. Payment is again based on subscription.

3. Runtastic Road (Mountain) Bike

So we got to an application dedicated exclusively to cyclists, although in the arsenal Runtastic There are other sports apps too. Users are offered a full range of functions of any good bike tracker: statistics, a map with GPS navigation, a voice assistant and even a music player. But there are also advanced functions like route planning and a sparse social component. Differences between Road Bike And Mountain Bike Hardly ever. The first offers routes on roads, and the second - off-road, and the color scheme is also different. Unlike previous applications, Runtastic programs are purchased once and forever. There is no support for Apple Watch, but there is ours.

4.Map My Ride

Map My Ride- another advanced tracker for cyclists. In addition to a detailed accounting of statistics, the application actively gives advice on staying in good shape and allows you to configure trip parameters, which the application will prompt you about during the process. The program also has a huge number of compatible accessories. If you have a gadget that you want to use during your ride, then there's a good chance that Map My Ride supports it. It is also worth mentioning the extensive base of exercises performed without a bicycle as a pleasant bonus. The cost, excluding premium subscription, is quite affordable.

5. Bike Doctor

If you love to ride, you also love to repair your bike. Application Bike Doctor contains a comprehensive number of instructions and recommendations for repairing and maintaining your two-wheeled friend. The program language is English, but most of the texts are written simply and clearly, even if your knowledge is limited. You never know when you might need such an application, so it's better to have it installed.

6. Bike space

« Bike space» - application for users from Russia and CIS countries. These are detailed maps of bike paths, bike workshops, bike shops and other points of attraction with the prefix “velo”. The database is replenished by users themselves, so it is constantly updated. Sometimes other programs for some reason do not know about cycling activity in a certain city, in such cases Velomesto will most likely come to the rescue. If you travel mainly by bicycle, then this is an indispensable program as a navigator, and there are other applications for sports purposes.
