Why is there no program tab in iTunes? Programs are not showing up in iTunes. Causes and solutions to problems

Very often, Apple users are faced with the fact that programs are not displayed in iTunes. There are actually not very many reasons why this can happen, and all of them can be listed literally on the fingers of one hand. In today’s material we will talk in detail about these very problems, due to which “tuna” does not see the program, and also share effective solutions for eliminating these problems.

It's all about iTunes versions

So, one of the most common reasons why programs are not displayed in iTunes is the version of iTunes installed. No matter how strange it may sound, “tuna” is very picky about the versions of its programs. For example, if an old version or some kind of beta is installed, then iTunes may work completely unpredictably, which is why various problems appear: program crashes, lack of a list of programs, synchronization errors, and much more.

What can be done in this situation? The best option would be to delete the current version of iTunes and install the latest and, most importantly, stable version. In some cases, installing a previous version can eliminate problems in the operation of the program, but not too outdated - this is important.

Reinstalling iTunes

The next reason why programs are not displayed in iTunes is a malfunction of the program itself. This also happens, and you shouldn’t be surprised. If iTunes, regardless of the version, does not display a list of programs, and generally works incorrectly, then you need to completely reinstall it, deleting all created files, folders, registry keys, etc. You can, of course, simply remove “tuna” and then install it, but this may not always help, because there are still records and necessary program files on the computer that will interfere with normal operation.

Here's what you'll need to do to perform a clean install of iTunes:

  1. First, you need to download a special program that will help you completely remove iTunes from your computer. For PCs with the Windows operating system, it is recommended to use one of these software: Total Uninstall, Revo Uninstaller, Uninstall Tool or IObit Uninstaller. For owners of Apple PCs with Mac OS installed, the best solution is to use the App Cleaner program.
  2. You need to install one of the above programs, run it and find iTunes in the list that appears. Select “tuna” from the list and press the button in the “Delete” or Uninstall program. The uninstallation process will start. It may take some time, so you will need to wait. The most important thing is that when during the removal process a window appears asking you to delete all folders, files and registry paths, you must select everything and click “OK”. The uninstallation process on Mac OS and Windows may differ markedly, so don't be alarmed.
  3. Now that iTunes has been completely removed, you should restart your computer.
  4. The next step is to open your browser, go to the Apple page and download the latest and most stable version of iTunes from there. Once the installation file is downloaded, you need to run it and install it.
  5. As soon as “tuna” is installed in the system, we launch it, enter our data from the Apple account, synchronize and enjoy a fully functional program that displays a list of applications.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in the described actions, so anyone can cope with this task.

Authorization in the program

If the previous two methods did not help, and iTunes does not display programs, then there is a high probability that the synchronization of the Apple account itself has failed. This also happens quite often, which is why many users then have problems when working with tuna. Synchronization failures, as a rule, happen most often on Apple smartphones, and not in the program itself on the computer. What’s most interesting is that if after some time synchronization is restored on the phone, then with the version on the computer everything is not so smooth. There may continue to be problems that lead to programs not being displayed in iTunes.

What to do in this case and how can you fix this unpleasant problem? In fact, everything is quite simple here. First, you need to log out of your Apple account on your iPhone and log in again. After this, you need to do the same thing, but only in a program on your computer. To do this, you need to launch "tuna", click on the tab at the top "Account" and select "Authorization" > "Deauthorize this computer" from the list. After you log out, you need to click on the “Account” tab again, select “Authorization” > “Authorize this computer” and enter your Apple account information. All!

Jailbreak

Well, the last reason why programs are not displayed in iTunes is jailbreak. Many iPhone owners like to install jailbreaks on their devices, but they do it not entirely correctly or choose a not very successful version, which ultimately leads to some problems. In particular, synchronization is disrupted, sound disappears, programs are not displayed in the tuna, etc.

Fixing the problem in this case is also quite easy: you just need to reset the iPhone to factory settings, and everything will work again.

After the release of iOS 11, the logical step for me was to update iTunes to the latest version 12.7. As it turned out, this time iTunes not only did not improve, but also became worse... I call it degradation. Below I will explain what disappeared from the iTunes application on the computer and how to live with it...

There is no more App Store in iTunes!

From now on, the App Store opens only on gadgets. To find an application on your computer, you need to type its name into Google, but it no longer redirects from the application page to iTunes.

Shared files

Apple also removed the ability to manage applications from iTunes. Because of this, icon management on iPhone and iPad in iTunes has disappeared. Only the management of “Shared Files” is left, which is moved to a separate section.

Now films, books, documents and other files are entered into the corresponding programs only through this item.

How can I now transfer ipa files to iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch from my computer?

If you still have ipa files with old versions of the application that you would like to install on your iDevice, then you still have the opportunity to transfer them to the device. To do this you need:

a) open your device in iTunes.

b) drag the file from Explorer (Windows)/Finder (Mac OS) to the “On My Device” section in iTunes.

c) Wait until the ipa file is downloaded.

The same applies to ringtones, section with which disappeared too from iTunes 12.7.

Is it possible not to update to iTunes 12.7?

Theoretically yes - no problem. But iTunes 12.7 is also designed to work correctly with devices running iOS 11.

Also in iTunes 12.7, interaction with Apple Music has been redesigned: new options have been added. We are mainly talking about the social component. You can see and listen to friends' playlists.

These are the changes...

The iTunes media player has changed beyond recognition over the past 5 years - Apple developers have added a dozen new functions, thoroughly redesigned the interface, discovered technology for synchronizing data between a PC and iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch via Wi-Fi, reinvented the music section and even We experimented with subscriptions – from now on, instead of individual purchases, family purchases are also available.

Apple developers prepare each major upgrade for the release of the new iOS operating system, and small changes are made 7-8 more times a year. Hence the main conclusion - if some sections have disappeared in the “standard” edition of iTunes, for example, there is no program tab in iTunes or there is no sounds tab, then it’s all due to technical changes and updates that have occurred.

How to return “Sounds”?

The procedure depends on the current version of iTunes:

Up to version 10

The tab with “Ringtones”, which allow you to replace the standard notification for calls and messages, is available in the left menu by default; no settings or additional parameters are needed. To add sounds, just call the “File” menu, then click on the “Add file to library” item, and then upload a track no longer than 30 seconds with the M4A extension.

10-11 versions

Changes are accepted immediately, and a corresponding section related to interaction with music will immediately appear on the left side of the menu.

After version 11

The song did not play for long again - the developers from Apple once again attacked iTunes with changes and hid the usual parameters for expanding the capabilities of the interface. From now on, the “Basic” menu is empty and does not allow you to adjust the display order of “Ringtones” or “Sounds” in any way.

But even here there were brave souls who figured out how to call up the settings menu in version 11 and put everything back in place.

The button you need is located directly below the “Edit” and “Song” sections and is called “Music” by default. If you click there, the system will allow you to “Edit Menu” and again put in “Sounds”, as well as “Books”, iTunes U and even “Internet Radio”.

Changes are accepted automatically and remain unchanged until users want to update iTunes again.

12 version

The usual ways to return “Sounds” are again kindly hidden by Apple developers, and no settings will help here. Is it really possible that you can no longer change the ringtone, and will you have to be content with the most boring standard melodies? In no case!

You can now download pre-prepared tracks (no more than 30 seconds long, M4A format) by simply dragging and dropping the file into iTunes.

And you can search for what you’ve added in the settings of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch in the “On My Device” section, which is located on the left side of the iTunes interface.

How to get "Applications" back?

On September 13, 2017, Apple developers released an update for iTunes numbered 12.7.0.166, which was remembered for three important changes:

  • Podcasts and a separate Podcasts tool have been added;
  • Apple Music has changed stylistically, a system of personal profiles has appeared, which you can subscribe to, and then monitor activity and change playlists;
  • The App Store section has been cut to the root.

And the last point came as a real shock. Users are no longer able to download applications to a computer and then transfer them to iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. And there are two reasons for this:

  • "Apps" on a PC aren't really of any interest to anyone. As Cupertino residents suggest, the technology of downloading data first to hard drives and then to iOS is used by only 5% of active participants. Others have long been accustomed to using the App Store built into smartphones and tablets;
  • The “Applications” tab in iTunes is simply inconvenient. A long search, problems with updating and selecting the right versions, a strange policy of regional restrictions that first display some content and then prohibit downloading. As a result, the guys from Apple took a risk and were not mistaken - downloading games, programs and other entertainment items is much more convenient from the App Store.

But, if for some reason and personal preference you need a version of iTunes with a built-in application store, then there are options here too:

It is quite possible to prepare for unexpected news from Apple, no matter what innovations the developers prepare. But, if you are already tired of delving into the settings once again, studying each section and adapting to changes dozens of times, then no one bothers you not to download updates for iTunes, each time refusing the offer that appears on the screen. And most importantly, such a “refusal” will not lead to any surprises. Updates for iOS are easily downloaded over the network, content (books, movies) is downloaded using third-party applications (for example, bots from Telegram or VLC Player), and synchronization has long been working not via USB, but in iCloud.

On the one hand, Apple seems to have acted logically - iTunes now includes movies, music and videos, and for installing applications on Mac and Windows computers there are corresponding Mac App Store and Windows Store. On the other hand, searching for applications in the mobile App Store made it much easier to get acquainted with the development - all the programs were at hand and there was no need to reach for an extra iOS device.

All this remains in iTunes 12.6. And if you updated to iTunes 12.7, get ready to change your habits - the App Store is not there. But everything can be fixed if you follow a few simple steps.

1. Close the iTunes application by pressing the key combination CMD+Q.

2. Open Spotlight Search (the magnifying glass icon at the top right of the screen near the system clock) and launch the Terminal app.

3. Enter the following command:

Cd /Applications/

A directory with an applications folder will open. Now we need to remove the current version of iTunes 12.7.

4. To do this, enter the following command:

Sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/

Be careful that you entered the command correctly, as there is a risk of deleting the wrong directory. You will be required to enter an administrator password.

5. Open Finder and press the keyboard shortcut CMD + Shift + G. Enter the following directory address:

~/Music/iTunes/

6. In the list of files, find the file named iTunes Library.itl and move it to any other folder. For example, on the desktop.

7. Open the folder " Previous iTunes Libraries" and sort the files By date. Select the latest file iTunes Library 2017-XX-XX.itl, where XX-XX is the month and date the file was created. Copy it and copy it to any folder for future use.

8. After moving to the new folder, rename the file and remove the date value. As a result, the file should be named iTunes Library.itl. Now you need to move it to the iTunes folder, opened in step 5 of these instructions.

9. Go to Apple website and download iTunes 12.6.2 for macOS. Install it. Save the installation file for future use just in case.

After installation, you will receive the “new-old” iTunes 12.6 with the App Store.

How to Bring Back iTunes with the App Store on Mac

1. Open your iTunes installation folder and find the "Previous iTunes Libraries" directory. Make a copy of the latest current iTunes Library.itl file (by creation date).

Hello! Updating software is not always a good thing. A clear example of this is the new version of iTunes, in which Apple developers for some reason “cut out” the App Store. Fully. They took and removed the ability to fully manage games and applications on your iOS device via a computer. The App Store item in iTunes has simply disappeared!

To be honest, I didn’t understand at all this whole “multi-step” from the glorious company from Cupertino. Tim Cook, are you all right there? Are there any other problems or tasks? Why remove something that did not bother anyone and helped many? Like now, for example, They got weird, Apple, oh, they got weird...

Fortunately, there is a way out. Now I’ll tell you how to return the game and application store to iTunes on your PC, let’s go!

So, Apple decided that ordinary users do not need programs in iTunes.

But there are other uses for company devices - in business, education and other corporate settings. And this is where installing programs via iTunes can play a very important role - it cannot be removed.

Therefore, a special press release was issued, which states that if you are a business representative, then continue to use iTunes as usual, no one prohibits you :)

Let's use this assumption to add the App Store to iTunes:

  1. Open Apple's statement using this link.
  2. There we also download iTunes (12.6.3.6) - available for Mac and Windows.
  3. If the computer is using .
  4. We install.

However, upon startup, you may encounter the message: “The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.”

What to do about it?

  • Find the iTunes Library.itl file on your computer.
  • You can use the search, but just in case, here is the "standard" location path for Windows - C:\Users\Username\My Music\iTunes. And for MAC - Personal > Music > iTunes.
  • Delete or move iTunes Library.itl from this folder.

Important! After deleting or moving a file, you will have to re-create the media library. This can be a problem if all your music in iTunes has been "sorted" and sorted.

That's it, we connect the iPhone or iPad to the computer and see... that nothing has changed - there is still no App Store in iTunes! Calm down, the main thing is not to panic :)

Now we can safely say that the ability to download a game or application via iTunes has returned. Hooray!

Updated (important note)! One of the readers wrote in the comments that he did everything according to the instructions, but nothing worked. What could be causing this? Only because the “wrong” version of iTunes is being downloaded. Please be careful - the article contains all the necessary links and tips. Thank you very much:)
