Philips Xenium V387 review: the best long-lived Android smartphone? Review of Philips Xenium V387 – a productive long-liver

Hello guys! If you are reading this text, it means that you are looking for a new smartphone for yourself, or maybe as a gift, which is sometimes not always easy to choose, or you are simply interested in mobile electronics and various gadgets, and want to keep abreast of the news on this topic. I'll tell you about a smartphone from Philips, model of the Xenium v387 line. I will not go into detailed technical characteristics of this smartphone; you can find out about them in the review of this site. I will only share my impressions of using this smartphone model, which I managed to use for some time. The most important thing in a smartphone, in my opinion, is the display, because it is what we most often look at when working with the phone. The display is of fairly good quality. Of course, for many, the screen resolution will not seem the highest for a given diagonal and you can see individual pixels if you peer closely at the screen, however, ask yourself, how often do you peer at a smartphone screen from close range? Hardly! The display has good color rendition and viewing angles, a good reserve of brightness, in general, during everyday use the display does not cause any discomfort, but what else do you need? As for the body, ergonomics and ease of use, I had no difficulties here either. The body of the device is well assembled, the buttons are in their standard places for Android smartphones. The dimensions of the device are quite typical for a 5-inch screen and, for me personally, are quite compact and easy to use, since I myself use smartphones with a diagonal of 5.5 and 6 inches. During use, the quality of the connection did not cause any complaints, the interlocutor was heard well, and I was also heard perfectly. 3G Internet works as it should, of course there is not enough support for fourth generation networks, especially since for this price it is quite possible to find a smartphone with LTE support. Unfortunately, it was not possible to check the possibility of working in dual SIM card mode, since I only used one SIM card, but I think there shouldn’t be any problems here either. As for the photo and video capabilities of the device, I liked the quality of the photos; the photos turned out to be quite decent in quality. I frankly didn't like the sound on the phone. No, the speaker sounds at an average volume, although at high tones it seemed squeaky to me, with a high degree of probability you will not miss a call, but as for the sound in headphones, it’s a complete disappointment! It doesn't matter what headphones you use. Here I give the phone a definite minus. But where is where, and in terms of autonomy, the smartphone gains advantages. Indeed, the device works for quite a long time. With average use (10-15 calls, an hour and a half of Internet, several photographs), it “lived” with me for five (!) days. This is an excellent indicator for an Android phone. And I haven’t turned on the energy-saving mode yet; the smartphone has a separate switch for this. When playing video, it lasted about 9 hours, which is also very good. Of course, this is not a record figure, but it’s also great. Conclusions. In general, during everyday use, I did not feel any discomfort when working with the phone, with the exception of the sound, since I like to listen to music, but this is a problem. Another disadvantage is the lack of LTE support. Otherwise, everything is fine - good connection, display, camera and excellent battery life. So, if you are looking for a smartphone to surf the Internet, then I would recommend looking for a smartphone that supports LTE. If you are a music lover and cannot imagine your life without music (provided you listen to it on your phone), then this smartphone is not your option. Otherwise, the phone is quite good and if the lack of support for fourth generation networks and mediocre sound quality are not a problem for you, then I can fully recommend it for purchase. I hope it helped someone make a choice. Good luck to all.

Content:

The operating system of the smartphone is Android KitKat version 4.4.2. It is most likely useless to expect an update to Lolipop, unless “folk craftsmen” adapt it for the Philips Xenium V387. The OS interface is “clean”, without third-party shells and additional content.

Pros and cons of Philips Xenium V387

The main advantages of Philips Xenium V387 are:

  • capacious 4400 mAh battery;

  • good display with HD resolution and a touchscreen made of protected glass;

  • 2 GB RAM;

  • strong GPS module antenna.

There were also some disadvantages to the smartphone:

  • mediocre camera quality;

  • not the best sound;

  • obsolete version of the OS.

Conclusion

Philips Xenium V387 is an excellent choice for those who don't like fiddling with wires. With it you don’t have to take the charger on short trips - the battery is enough to pass the time on the road, stay in touch for a couple of days and come home with some charge left.

For gamers, a smartphone is also suitable if you are interested in not too “gluttonous” applications. The hardware platform here is not the most productive, but due to the fact that the screen has HD and not FullHD resolution, the power is quite enough.

A significant drawback of the Philips Xenium V387, which our review revealed, was its mediocre sound. Therefore, music lovers may remain dissatisfied.

The Philips brand is interesting because it always tries to provide the buyer with an inexpensive device of good quality. These may not be cutting-edge sophisticated gadgets (although the latest Xenium i908 and i928 can already compete with this), but we can get a completely reliable and efficient device with several proprietary features.

And in the case of the line, it also significantly extends the life of your smartphone, which not all manufacturers can boast of. While some brands like ThL or Highscreen produce similar ones, you won’t get this from first-tier companies.

In the Xenium V387 model, Philips engineers tried to solve several problems at once. A smartphone should last a long time, look good, be fast, functional and inexpensive. Of course, it is impossible to fully combine these qualities in one product. But if you think through everything, you can achieve a certain balance. Apparently, this is exactly the solution we are about to meet.

Philips Xenium V387 has been available for sale since November 2014 in one hardware modification with 16 GB of built-in memory for data storage. The device is officially supplied to the Russian market and is accompanied by appropriate support. Available in black and white body colors (with yellow and blue interchangeable back panels). The cost of a smartphone at the moment is about 10 thousand rubles.

So, let's see how the Philips Xenium V387 turned out to be the optimal long-lived smartphone. As always, let's start with a brief description of its parameters.

Let's immediately pay attention to the availability of the device. From here it’s worth dancing, as they say. The hardware is not the fastest, but should provide an acceptable level of performance. The range of communications is sufficient, except that 4G is missing. What is important is that there is support for two SIM cards and a memory card. Although the cameras are rather weak, the screen does not have the highest resolution, and the weight and dimensions are clearly not for an elegant smartphone.

But there is a huge battery, which, most likely, will be the main reason for choosing this model. If all the elements of such a device work normally, then the Xenium V387 has very good prospects. It's worth checking everything in order.

Packaging and equipment

The Philips smartphone arrived for testing in a white cardboard box.

Basic information about the device and its images are printed on the surface of the package.

This article will review the Philips Xenium V387 mobile phone. It will please its owners with a fairly powerful battery. The battery capacity is 4,400 mAh.

In principle, this capacity is not a record figure. However, for a device of this thickness (and it is 9.5 millimeters) this is very, very good. The Highscreen company, for example, has established itself with smartphones with a larger battery capacity, which, accordingly, operate on battery power for a longer time. One of her creations has a battery capacity of 6,000 mAh. However, it is worth noting that the same model has a thickness of one and a half centimeters.

Design

If anyone has had experience with the W6610, they will immediately notice the resemblance between it and the V387. Both devices have almost the same body shape. Two edges - both upper and lower - are slightly curved. In this case, the side edges have a rounded shape. It is worth noting that the corners of the smartphone are arranged in the same way. It is precisely due to the fact that the outlines of the device are smooth and the edges are not sharp that the device lies comfortably in the hand without digging into the palm.

Even though the battery capacity is relatively large, and accordingly its dimensions are impressive, the dimensions of the smartphone itself in all three planes form a rather pleasant picture: length - 144 mm, width - 74 mm, thickness - 9.6 mm. At the same time, the Philips Xenium V387 mobile phone weighs 171 grams.

In the smartphone market, the device is available in black and white color options. In any case, no matter what color you purchase the device, the kit will include replaceable back covers. For example, in some cases, the black Philips Xenium V387 smartphone comes with a yellow replacement cover. One thing worth noting is that these lids may be quite flexible, but even so they have not lost any of their strength.

Front and side view

The front panel has a small edging. It is made of plastic (glossy) and decorated in black color scheme. The edging helps protect the display from damage if the Philips Xenium V387 smartphone is left on a rough surface.

The side edges are also made of plastic, but semi-glossy. Plastic was also used in the manufacture of the back cover. They are covered with a small relief pattern on top.

Strength

Regarding the reliability of the screen, device users leave in most cases neutral reviews. Philips Xenium V387 black has an oleophobic coating. There should be no problems when using the screen, since your finger glides smoothly over the coating, and fingerprints can be wiped off the protective glass without any effort.

In the center of the device, at the top, there is a speaker. It is covered with a dark metal mesh. The volume of the speaker is impressive, but the quality of the signal transmitted through it leaves much to be desired. The fact is that high frequencies are lacking, but low frequencies, on the contrary, are enough, as they say, for the eyes. Well, or by the ears, as in our situation. Due to this, the interlocutor’s speech will be a little difficult to understand.

To the left of the speaker are the sensors, and to the right is the front camera. At the bottom of the front edge there are buttons that are applied with paint. Although the buttons are backlit, it is still not enough.

The bottom end accommodates a MicroUSB input. The primary microphone is also located there. An input for a 3.5 mm wired headset is integrated into the top end. On the left side there are volume buttons, and on the opposite side there is a power button. Just above it there is a lever, through the use of which the device can be switched to energy saving mode.

The reverse side accommodates the main camera recessed inside the body, as well as a flash to illuminate the subject in the dark. You can remove the panel without any problems by simply prying it by the recess located on the left side. Having removed the cover, on the left you can see a slot designed for using MicroSD-type flash cards. The SIM card slots will be located on the right.

It is worth noting the excellent build quality of the Philips Xenium V387. Reviews say that the phone does not crunch or make other sounds even when squeezed, and its back cover, right down to the battery, does not bend under any circumstances.

Display

The display diagonal in this device is 5 inches, and it has frames. Its size in the upper part is one and a half centimeters, while at the bottom it reaches 18 mm, and on the sides - 5.5 mm.

In terms of high-quality display, users will not be pleased with the Philips Xenium V387 Black model. Reviews clearly demonstrate that even with high resolution, which is 720 by 1280 pixels, the picture loses contrast at the slightest tilt of the screen. The phone simply cannot reproduce yellow and purple hues. Speaking more specifically about the matrix, it has an IPS type.

But in terms of sensitivity, manufacturers have done their best: the smartphone can respond to seven touches at different points on the surface at once. The touch display has particularly high sensitivity.

Nutrition

In the introduction, we already said that with such a thickness, a smartphone battery has a fairly good capacity. The Xenium line, which has excellent devices in terms of energy efficiency, includes the Philips Xenium V387. Reviews about the battery power set this model apart from other smartphones.

If you believe the data provided by the manufacturer, the phone can last up to 1442 hours in standby mode. At the same time, you can talk on it without stopping all day long. And this is not said in a figurative sense: 25 hours of continuous work are allocated for talking on the phone. Well, the Philips Xenium V387 distinguished itself with its autonomous power supply. Reviews of his work fully confirm this fact.

If we talk in more detail about this factor, then about 65 hours are allocated for continuous listening to audio files. But at maximum screen brightness and high resolution, high volume, you can watch movies for 13 hours. In terms of energy use when playing, the smartphone can please you with 6 hours of operation. This is very, very good.

Charging is possible both using AC power and by charging from devices with a USB input. For example, from a personal computer or laptop. If you use an electrical outlet, the phone can be charged in 3 hours, while a full charge from a PC will take three times longer.

Communications

If we talk about cellular networks, the model operates in the 2G and 3G bands. Bluetooth version - 4.0. As mentioned earlier, the phone connects to devices that have a USB 2.0 interface. Wi-Fi supports b, g and n standards. The Philips Xenium V387 still does not have any special communication capabilities; reviews indicate that sometimes Wi-Fi in standard A is not enough.

Memory

The RAM has a capacity of 2 GB. Minor “lags”, “glitches” and other inaccuracies in the operation of the operating system are somewhat mitigated by the use of this size of RAM. In addition, the operating system is installed without any unnecessary shells, which allows the user to provide almost 1.5 GB for personal needs.

In terms of long-term memory, the model will also please potential and actual users. Its volume is 16 GB. 4 of them are allocated for system operation, but even 12 GB is enough for personal use. If it’s a bit cramped, you can buy a memory card separately. The maximum supported volume is 32 GB.

Well, here, as in energy efficiency, the success of the Philips Xenium V387 Black is obvious. Reviews in terms of memory do not contain almost a single minus.

Camera

As you know, the device has two cameras. The main one has a resolution of 8 megapixels. The additional one is also not bad, its resolution is 2 megapixels. There is a cool glow flash on the back panel. Photo resolution can be about 3264 by 2448 pixels. Depending on the quality of lighting, the frame rate when shooting video falls in the range from 16 to 30. In this case, the shooting resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels.

However, despite such technical characteristics, the quality of the pictures taken is not very high. In most cases, the problem lies in the detail of the photos if the lighting level drops. In this case, you may notice noise. We can say that the solution to the problem will only be upgrading the module.

The front camera should appeal to those who use the Philips Xenium V387 phone. Reviews about it are neutral, since although it shoots decently, it does not belong to the wide-angle type.

Performance

The device is based on a Taiwanese-made MediaTek chip. The processor has 4 cores that operate at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The clock frequency of the graphics accelerator is 400 MHz.

The Philips Xenium V387 smartphone cannot be called an ideal gaming device. Performance reviews show that games with the highest graphics on mobile devices today (games like Dead Trigger 2) may experience stuttering, lag, and so on. However, they don't happen that often, and regular games can be played with interest.

Philips Xenium V387: owner reviews. Conclusion

Currently, this smartphone model is quite acceptable in terms of technical supplies. Ordinary users can find smartphones that are more optimal in terms of price-quality ratio, but active users may well purchase this device.

Thanks to the high-capacity battery, they will be able to spend more time on the Internet, actively “surf” web pages, listen to music and watch videos. You shouldn’t ignore the large screen diagonal either. Due to this, reading the text will not be so difficult, and your eyes will strain less.

Most users note the good and convenient design of the model, and the only disadvantages they write down are not very high-quality color rendition and not very high quality of the pictures taken, since the “filling” of the camera requires higher-quality photographs.

The price of the smartphone is 10,500 rubles, which, in principle, is acceptable by today's standards.

What I didn't like

I found it defective during my first purchase. The left-right sensor did not work in games. that is, it was not possible to play Asphalt 8. the car was going in one direction. The store replaced it almost immediately. Also, the sound in his headphones is not very pleasing

What I liked

not bad. everything is quite modest and cozy. purely male phone

What I didn't like

In some applications such as viber and Instagram the scrolling slows down. sometimes loses location in navigation

What I liked

Autonomy, system speed, screen

What I didn't like

For me the size is too large and to delete an SMS in reading mode you need to aim your finger at the very bottom of the screen (rather than a window popping up on the message itself as in previous models).

What I liked

After HTC everything is only superlatives! In the metro, the Internet connection is instantaneous, the connection is maintained and does not drop as my HTC did and I had to call back. All functions are incomparably more convenient, faster and more visual. It really holds a charge for a week if you don’t actively use it but read messages and mail and make calls two or three times a day. It charges surprisingly quickly, I couldn’t even notice the time (I only had to charge it three times and each time I thought it was too early - but it was already ready))

What I didn't like

Battery

What I liked

What I didn't like

Wi-Fi drops. Problem with covers for it.

What I liked

battery.fast.good size.

What I didn't like

It is necessary to glue the protective film, not gorilla eyes

What I liked

battery, 2 giga RAM, works quickly, camera is not bad, auto settings also works fine, 4 cores and even a video processor and it copes with its tasks quite well

What I didn't like

And this is not a phone at all. The network reception is very bad. There are several buildings where the network does not receive it. Sonya immediately receives normally - 3-4 sticks. And I’m not online with the same MTS. The camera is disgusting. No photos or videos. Volume photo 700 KB. Is this 8 Mr? I don’t believe it! The battery indicator shows about 50% for 4 days, then in half a day it goes to 20 and then stupidly turns off in a minute. And you can’t calculate the moment when you will be left without communication. By chance, no one knows how to return this monster to an excuse to deceive the buyer?

What I liked

Described before me. Battery, RAM 2 GB

What I didn't like

price, processor performance, camera

What I liked

screen, performance in applications, build quality, two SIM cards, 2GB of RAM

What I didn't like

No OTG and NFC, Not the best screen, No included car charger or case (who needs it), The included film for the screen sucks, Easy to press on/off key, Speakers are not the best, Navigation buttons are almost not backlit, Cameras are not great, The vibration is very weak, there is no GLONASS, sometimes it freezes a little when scrolling

What I liked

The battery is powerful and removable, Works stably without glitches, Holds WiFi well, Good GPS, Value for money, No oversaturation with unnecessary software, Charges quickly, Convenient and correct location of buttons and connectors (motorists will like it), Tactile sensations, Good memory capacity (2 and 16), Not a bad total power, Two caps included, Kingo Root is easy to root, Good screen brightness reserve, The case does not crack or creak, It honestly updates the firmware as soon as it is released, Doesn’t get too hot under loads and charges

What I didn't like

1. Screen. Brightness is good, but color rendering and contrast are very mediocre. Although for reading the news it’s absolutely fine. Plus, the matrix began to lag - a white spot appeared, but again this does not interfere with using the phone.
2. Build quality. Nothing is loose, there are no gaps, but after 2 months of use the whole thing began to creak. It doesn't interfere at all, but it's unpleasant.
3. Camera. The text takes photos well in normal lighting (I don’t need more), but not more.

What I liked

1. Working hours. With extremely moderate use (several calls and SMS a day, an hour of music, periodically updating social networks and email, surfing the Internet a little), the phone can last 4 days. If you use it more actively, you can safely count on 3 days. Well, if you don’t let it out of your hands – 2 days. A very convenient little thing is the lever for turning on the energy-saving mode. Allows you to effortlessly disable all background applications, Wi-Fi, GPS, etc. The phone battery allows you to absolutely not worry (unless you need a week without recharging) about charging your phone. This was the key when purchasing - looking at people who are running around looking for a socket for their phone anywhere, and then they are still worried that it will go down before the evening, and you will be left without communication, it’s somehow sad. 2. 2 GB of RAM and overall performance. I don't play games, but it's perfect for everyday tasks. Never slowed down or stalled. Many classmates of the phone only have 1 GB of RAM, which also persuaded me to buy v387. In particular, I was inclined to buy the p780, but I didn’t buy it precisely because of 1 GB, which is now extremely small. 3. Ergonomics. Fits nicely in the hand, nice materials 4. Does not lose the network, good speaker and microphone, good Wi-Fi receiver, does not lose GPS 5. There is a slot for SD 6. Almost (if not completely) bare android and a minimum of pre-installed rubbish. I have a Samsung tablet myself, so I have something to compare it with... 7. Price. Probably the main advantage of the phone. For 10-11 thousand you get an excellent phone for everyday needs. 8. The package includes 2 back covers and a film.
