Very often, owners of iPhones and Android smartphones, having bought a new headset, are faced with an unexpected problem - the smartphone refuses to respond to the press of a button, while the headphones themselves play music properly.

There may be several reasons for this “pathology”, here are the most common:

1. The plug may not be inserted all the way - try pressing it harder so that it goes in all the way;
2. The pinout of the plug does not match (different pinout standards). The fact is that a mini-jack with a diameter of 3.5 mm has four contacts, but the wiring of control signals can be of two types - OMTP and CTIA. You can eliminate the problem of device incompatibility by purchasing an OMTP-CTIA adapter.

If you don't have a microphone, you can use headphones to connect to an audio device and use them as a microphone. How you make this connection may depend on the type of audio devices you use.

When connecting micro headphones (more details) to a device that is designed to work with a dynamic type of microphone, you do not need any matching circuit. There are also devices that are designed to connect a dynamic microphone, which is equipped with other types of sockets. An example of this is the majority of karaoke systems that have a 6.3 mm connector, while tape recorders are equipped with five-pin connectors. You must cut the plug from the headphones, replace it and connect it to the 6.3mm jack using the method described above. To connect headphones instead of a microphone to a tape recorder with a five-pin socket (DIN, or ONTs-VG), gold or silver wires need to be connected together and connected to the middle pin of the plug, and green or blue together with orange or red to the right side. The headphones to which we have devoted today's article are divided into different types, depending on the design and purpose. For example, there is a miniature wireless headset for a telephone that should be attached to one ear. It is convenient to work with it if your hands are busy and you are expecting an important call that does not require postponement. For example, it is advisable to use such a device while driving.

Another category of headphones is a full-fledged wireless headset for a computer, used for listening to music, audio files for films and other audio tracks. They look completely different - they are not compact, fit both ears at once, and are also provided with a higher level of insulation (for high-quality sound transmission). Accordingly, it would be possible to use such a device to talk on the phone, but not so convenient due to their large dimensions. In addition, such headphones are not always equipped with a microphone.
