How to burn an ISO image file to a USB flash drive. How to burn any ISO image to a USB flash drive

This article describes the key feature of the UltraIso program. A bootable USB flash drive can be created without any problems. It is the algorithm for performing this operation that will be discussed further.

In what cases can you not do without such a flash drive?

First, let's define those cases when we cannot do without this important feature of UltraIso. A bootable flash drive allows you to install an operating system on a computer that does not have a CD-ROM drive. First of all, these are some models of ultrabooks and all netbooks. But, again, this does not mean that this method cannot be applied to a stationary personal computer (not every system unit now has a CD reader) or a laptop. In general, this is a universal solution for all cases. All modern computers, without exception, are equipped with a USB connector. So there will be no problems connecting a flash drive. In this case, the installation speed of the operating system will be many times higher. Data transfers faster from a flash drive than from a CD. Therefore, this installation method is the future.

Choosing an image

Before you make a bootable UltraIso flash drive, you need to select the correct installation version of the operating system. Its demo version can be downloaded from the Internet. It is recommended to use the *.iso format (that is, the file must have this extension). If necessary, it can be made from a CD. To do this, install it in the drive, launch UltraIso, press “F8” and, following the instructions, create a copy on the hard drive of the installation version of the operating system. It is important that the installer source is autoloadable. Although rare, there are times when this important option is missing from the installation version. Therefore, you must definitely pay attention to this.

Which version of the program is better?

UltraIso comes in two versions. The first one is demo and free. Some functions are not available, but the ability to create bootable flash drives is present. The second version is paid. It has more options, but to create such a flash drive, its purchase is not justified. Therefore, most users are recommended to take the first modification of UltraIso.

Installing UltraIso

First you need to download and install UltraIso. without this stage it is impossible. First you need to download this program from the official website. Other versions are not recommended to be used, as their performance leaves much to be desired. Then run the downloaded installer. Following the instructions of the wizard, install this program on your local computer. There is no need to perform any additional settings to create a bootable drive. After this, UltraIso is ready for use.

Creating a bootable flash drive using UltraIso

How to create a bootable USB flash drive? After installation is complete, the order of this operation will be as follows.

Once the manipulations are complete, the process can be considered complete, and now you can easily install the operating system from the flash drive. Do not forget that the size of the flash drive must be larger than the operating system installer. That is, if the image occupies 4.4 GB, then the drive in this case must be at least 8 GB. This nuance must be taken into account without fail. Otherwise, it will not be possible to create a bootable drive, and the operating system will display a corresponding message.

Preparing to install the operating system

At the next stage you will no longer have to use the UltraIso program. The bootable USB flash drive is ready. But in order to start the operating system installation process, you need to correctly configure the BIOS of your personal computer. We install the prepared drive in any of the rectangular connectors of the personal computer. Next, when you turn it on, you need to pay attention to the inscription: Press X to setup. In this case, “X” will be the key that you need to press to enter the basic settings of your personal computer. If at the hardware testing stage the logo of the motherboard manufacturer is displayed, then you need to press “Esc”. It is not always possible to figure out the login key the first time and have time to enter the BIOS. Therefore, if you did not have time to click, and the operating system began loading, then you need to restart your personal computer and repeat the operation of entering the basic settings, already knowing the necessary information. Then, using the navigation keys (they have arrows on them), go to the Boot menu item. In it we find the First Boot item. Point the marker at it using the down arrow. At the next stage, using PgUp and PgDn, we indicate to the PC that the first boot source is, for example, a bootable Windows 7 flash drive. UltraIso has already placed the image on it, and it is ready for the installation process. The volume label will be the same as previously specified. Once this manipulation is completed, press F10. Then you should be asked to save the changes. We answer it positively. After this, the personal computer will restart and boot from the flash drive will begin.

Installation

The installation process from such an operating system drive is identical to exactly the same procedure from a CD made in the same UltraIso program. The Windows bootable USB flash drive is an exact copy of it. When the PC starts booting, press any key when the corresponding message appears. Then set the language, country, monetary units and click “Next”. At the next stage, click on “Install”. We select the one for which we have a key. Then we agree to the terms of the license agreement. To do this, check the box at the bottom of the window and click the “Next” button. At the next stage, select the installation type: complete or update. Then select the logical partition on which the OS will be installed. If necessary, format it using the appropriate command. Further, all operations are performed automatically until you need to set the PC name. Enter it and click “Next”. If necessary, set a password for protection. Then you need to enter the registration key. You can skip this step, but then you will have a trial version for 31 days. Then select security settings, time and system date. Then we set up a local area network. At the final stage, drivers and application programs are installed.

Summary

This article describes one of the most important features of the UltraIso program. Using it, a bootable flash drive can be created without any problems, and even a novice user can solve this problem. Today we’ll look at the topic in more detail about... There are several ways to mount operating systems on a removable USB drive. Using programs (USB/DVD Download Tool , WinSetupFromUSB, Rufus) and command line (cmd).

In general, the concept of development suggests that the more time passes, the faster the information technology sector develops. It is becoming increasingly important to store information on removable media that is not larger in size.

Let's figure out what is the advantage of, for example, a flash drive or an external HDD compared to an optical medium - a disk:

  • compactness;
  • reliability;
  • Ease of use;
  • possibility of repeated use;
  • recording more data.

What you need to create a bootable USB flash drive

  • Download an image (file with .iso extension) of the Windows 7c operating system from any available site. There shouldn't be any problems with this. If you don’t know what an image is, read the post about creating an image. There is an alternative option, to create it yourself, but I think it makes no sense to waste time and effort.
  • Have a flash drive of at least 4 GB, since the Windows 7 distribution weighs about that much.
  • ultraiso program. Don't be alarmed that it's paid. When you download and install, a trial version will be available to you initially. This is quite enough to make a bootable USB flash drive for Windows 7 using ultraiso. If you wish, you can find a cracked version.

The first thing you need to do is format the USB drive. Why is this necessary? Let's assume an 8GB flash drive that stores multiple files. Before recording a Windows 7 image, you need to structure the clusters. Formatting just removes everything unnecessary and prepares the drive for new recording of files.

As you know, when buying a flash drive, the file system is FAT32. It is outdated, so it would be better to reformat it to NTFS. This system allows you to store files larger than 4 GB.

By default, formatting a flash drive in NTFS using Windows XP is not available. You need to enable this option.

Connect the USB drive to the computer. Go to the "my computer" section. Find the flash drive and right-click on it. Select "properties" from the menu. We get to the “hardware” tab and select the desired drive. Then click “properties”, “policy” tab and check “optimize for execution”.

After confirming the actions, you will be asked to restart your computer. When you launch the formatting window, NTFS will become available to you. For Windows 7, these steps do not need to be done.

How to format a flash drive to NTFS

IMPORTANT! Before starting the formatting procedure, copy all files to another media. This procedure deletes all files.

The most common method is formatting through the standard capabilities of Windows 7. To do this, click “start” - “computer” and in the “devices with removable storage” tab, find the future bootable USB flash drive.

IMPORTANT! Be careful, choose the device on which you plan to record Windows 7 using the ultraiso program.

Right-click on it and select the command called “format” from the menu.

Click start and wait for the formatting procedure to complete.

This completes the formatting of the flash drive. Now you can proceed to the next step.

After you have installed the ultraiso program, launch it and click on the trial period button. This is quite enough to burn a bootable USB flash drive.

The program will launch and you will see its appearance. Take a quick glance and look at the location of the main elements.

First, you need to open the image itself with Windows 7. Click “file” - “open” in the top menu or the combination CTRL + O. Select the downloaded Windows 7 files with the iso extension.

Now that the image is open, move along the menu to the right, find the “bootstrapping” tab. Here you will need the menu item “burn hard disk image”.

  • In Disk Drive, specify the bootable USB flash drive.
  • Secondly, the second line automatically specifies the path to the file with Windows 7.
  • On the opposite side of the recording method, be sure to check that the value is USB-HDD+.

By and large, when opening this window, there is practically no need to change anything, but still compare the parameters with those listed above in order to avoid unpleasant situations.

Note: The ultraiso program allows you to format a bootable USB flash drive. If you have not formatted the device, be sure to carry out this procedure! The steps of the procedure are described above.

Press the treasured record button. Wait for the recording to finish.

That's all, lesson - how to make a bootable windows 7 flash drive using ultraiso finished. As you can see, there is nothing complicated. Now feel free to plug in the USB drive and . Choose to boot from a flash drive and enjoy the result of installing Windows 7.

You have an ISO file that you want on a flash drive or other USB storage device. You should also be able to boot from it. Sounds simple, right? Copy the file to it and you're done!

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Properly burning an ISO to USB is different than just copying the file. It's even different than burning an ISO to a disc. The tricky part is that you plan to boot from a USB drive, and to do that you need to create boot entries on it.

Luckily, there are many free tools that can automatically create a bootable drive. We'll look at how to do this using the free Rufus program.

Note: Burning an ISO image file to USB devices typically takes less than 20 minutes, but the total time varies greatly depending on the size of the image and the performance of the drive.

How to Burn an ISO File to a USB Drive

Step 1

Download Rufus, a free tool that will help you properly prepare your USB drive, automatically extract the contents of the ISO image, and correctly copy the files it contains to your USB device, including any files in the ISO needed to make it bootable.

Rufus is a portable program (no installation required), works on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP and allows you to burn an ISO image file to any type of storage device.

Step 2

Double click on the downloaded file. The utility will be immediately ready for use.

Step 3

Connect the flash drive or other USB device to your computer that you want to burn the ISO file to.

Step 4

Attention: Burning an ISO image to a USB drive using this program erases all data on the disk! Make sure your USB drive is empty or that you have backed up all important files from it.

Step 5

From the drop-down list of devices at the top of the program window, select the USB drive to which you want to burn the image.

Note: The utility shows the size of the USB device, its letter and the amount of free space on the disk. Use this information to ensure you select the correct device.

Note: If the USB drive is not in the list of devices, then the problem may be with the drive itself. Try reconnecting it to another USB port or to a port directly on the motherboard (if you are using a USB hub).

Step 6

Below you can specify the volume label, cluster size and file system. In most cases, we recommend leaving this value at its default.

Step 7

In the "formatting options" section, you can check the "check device for bad blocks" option if you have concerns that there may be a problem with the drive.

Step 9

When the "Open" window appears, select the ISO image that you want to burn to the flash drive and click the "Open" button. Wait while Rufus checks the ISO file you selected. This usually takes a few seconds.

Note: if you see the message “Unsupported ISO”, then in this case, try using another program or downloading another image, since Rufus will not be able to burn the file. This error occurs when opening a damaged or non-ISO image.

Step 10

Click the Start button to begin the process of writing the image file to the selected USB device.

Note: If you see a message that the image is too large, you will need to use a larger drive.

Step 12

Once recording is complete, safely remove the USB flash drive and try booting from it. If you succeed, then the recording was successful.
