When buying a smartphone based on the Android system, the first thing the happy owner of the new product wants to do is to give as much individuality and personal convenience to his gadget as possible. But most often, the new owner of a smartphone does not understand anything at all and does not know what to do next with it and how to bring it into the required state, which often leads to questions of the following nature: How can I change the ringtone for incoming calls, alarm clocks and similar sound notifications? And you are not at the wrong address, we will provide all the necessary information to resolve all possible questions on the given topic. Our little master class will help you forget about this problem once and for all.

Today there are many ways and possibilities to set your favorite ringtone to your phone. But we can distinguish two specific groups:

  1. A method in which only basic applications with standard settings are used (basic player, standard file manager, settings and many other applications)

Using the initially installed programs and capabilities of the Android system in solving the problem of setting your favorite ringtone to your phone is actually the simplest thing. A basic player will serve as an excellent example of how you can put a melody on a call.

Using the Basic Player

  1. The first thing you need to do is go to the menu of your smartphone and then find an application in it called Music.
  2. By clicking on the icon called Music, you will find yourself in lists where all your favorite tracks are stored, this list will help you choose the song that will appear on the contact.
  3. As an example, we took Polina Gagarina’s song “Look at me, my sun.” After you have decided on the choice of music track, you first need to click on the Options button and click on the item Put on call.
  4. Now the installation of the desired track on your smartphone is completed using the most common basic player.
Set your favorite melody to a phone contact using the file manager previously provided for in the basic settings.

Using a regular file manager

  1. You need to go to the menu of your phone and there you can see the File Manager.
  2. The next step will be to select from which memory we will install the music. From the memory of Android itself or from your memory card (if the required file is located there).
  3. After the manipulations we have done, find the Music folder and open it.
  4. In that same folder there is a single file with an mp3 extension, which indicates that this is the same file.
  5. The next step is to hold this file for a few seconds. A window should then appear that will prompt you to perform various actions with this file. We choose another option, which is located on the right side.
  6. Then a sublist appears in which you must select Use as a notification signal. That's all we did!

The question of how to set a ringtone for a contact on an Android device worries many users who are just beginning their acquaintance with this mobile platform. Fortunately, this operating system does not create any particularly difficult obstacles to achieving the desired result. Probably, among all three OS (and we are talking about Android, Windows Mobile, IOS), the first one is the easiest to install your own ringtones for various purposes. In view of this, the question of how to set a melody for a contact on Android becomes even simpler. In the meantime, it’s time to move on from words to action.

How to set a ringtone to a contact on an Android device

Many users are dissatisfied with the set of ringtones and sounds the operating system offers them by default. They can be applied to several types of categories at once. We are talking about incoming voice calls, alarm clocks, text messages and much more. However, such a set of notifications does not suit, for example, young people who want to install original songs and music on their calls. That is why the developers of the operating system provided such a possibility. It turned out that even without using third-party software (for example, the Ringtone Maker utility), you can set your own ringtones for calls. And it's not that difficult to do. Thus, it’s time to answer the question of how to set a melody for a contact on Android.

Creating folders

The first step towards achieving this goal is to search for a specific directory. To do this, you need to open it in the device itself. If you already have special software installed for these needs (we are talking about file managers from various developers), you can successfully use it, there is no fundamental difference. Of course, FMs differ in their functional part and interface, but the meaning always remains the same, so the actions in each program will almost copy each other. Thus, using the file manager or file manager, we go to the directory called SDCARD.

Further search

Essentially, once you go to the folder called SDCARD, you are taken to the root directory of the memory card. This is where all the other folders that are recorded on it are located and, of course, every file. Next, we need to find a folder called DCIM. When you have found it, click and open this directory. There may be other folders in it, but we don’t pay attention to them. We simply create another directory and name it Media. Once the operation is completed, you will be able to see a new object resting in the DCIM directory with the appropriate name. So we have taken another step towards answering the question of how to set a melody to a separate contact. “Android,” as we see, is extremely simple in this regard, and then you will need to open the newly created folder and create another directory in it, which we will call Audio. Consider that half of the operation is already behind you.

Android operating system: how to set a ringtone for a contact’s call

So, in the Audio directory we should create several more folders: alarms - for sounds set on the alarm clock, ringtones - for voice calls, notifications - event melodies, and ui - operating system interface sounds. Actually, you will need to upload ringtones to these directories. This can be done using a microUSB cable, as well as wirelessly.

After all the melodies are sorted into their own directories, all that remains is to go to the contacts menu and select the required person. In the context menu you will find the “Set ringtone” sub-item. After you click on it, a list of tunes to choose from will open. There you already select the song you need.

Did you know that on your Android smartphone you can set your own ringtone for each contact? This will allow you to determine who is calling without even looking at the screen. Find out how to do this in our article.

How to set a ringtone for an Android contact?

In order to start installing ringtones, the first thing you need to do is open contacts on your device. This is what the contact list looks like in our case:

Now select a contact by tapping on its icon (highlighted in red in the previous screenshot). A window will open in front of you. You must tap on the little man icon.

This will take us to the contact page. She looks like this:

The next step is calling the menu. To call it, you need to click either on the “Menu” button, which is located at the bottom of the screen, or on the “Menu” button at the top of the screen (usually three dots are drawn on it). When the menu appears, select Set Ringtone.

A small window will appear in front of you. It will ask you what to use - a media storage or a file manager? If you are setting a melody from existing ones, select the first option, and if you want to install a melody that you have just transferred to your smartphone, select the second.

Let's say you've chosen media storage. In this case, a list of melodies will appear. Select the one you need and click OK.

If the melody is stored in a folder, select a file manager and use it to find the folder where the file is located. Then tap on it and that’s it, the melody will be automatically installed on the contact.

That's it, now this particular melody is set for the subscriber - it will play when he calls you.

Setting different ringtones for different contacts allows you to find out who is calling without even taking out your smartphone. In addition, different melodies add some variety. Which can be useful if you get tired of hearing the same ringtone every time you receive a call. In this article we will talk about how to set a ringtone to a contact on an Android smartphone.

Setting a ringtone for a contact is done through the Contacts application, and not through Settings, as one might think. Therefore, we open “Contacts”, find the contact we need there and open it.

After this, a page with information about the contact will open in front of you. Here you need to scroll down the information. At the bottom of the page there should be a “Ringtone” button, you need to click on it in order to set a melody for a contact on Android. If there is no such button on the page with information about the contact, it means that in your firmware the melody is set using the context menu button (or the button with three dots).

After clicking on the “Ringtone” button, you need to select an audio file using one of the available programs. For example, let's select “Multimedia Storage”.

After this, a list of available melodies appears on the screen. Here you just need to select a melody and click on the “Yes” button. After which this melody will be installed on the contact you have selected.

If you do not want to use standard ringtones, then you can add any other audio file to this list. To do this, use the “Add” button.

2. In the window that appears, select “Set as ringtone” (AIMP) and “Ring” (Poweramp). Confirm the action.

Melody for contact

If you want to assign specific music to an individual contact, such as a friend or parent, follow the instructions:

1. Go to “Contacts” and select the person you need. There are three menu dots in the upper right corner of your profile - click on them.

2. In the window that appears, select “Set ringtone”.

3. The system will prompt you to select an application through which you will search for the desired melody. Select a file manager or do everything as described in the first paragraph.
