How to open a multi-page pdf in coreldraw. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite - Tutorials. What is needed to convert a CDR file to a PDF file or how can you create a PDF version of your CDR file

This tutorial was developed for CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite X7. Although similar features may be available in previous releases, this tutorial is only fully applicable to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7 and later.

CorelDRAW offers extensive support for the latest Adobe Illustrator (AI) file formats up to and including CS6 and PDF, and support for Adobe Photoshop (PSD) formats up to and including CS6. Now it's even easier to open, import and edit files of these formats. Here are some important improvements:

  • Supports Bates numbering, PDF/A and Acrobat 9 (PDF 1.7) formats
  • Support for object-based page size determination during PDF export
  • CorelDRAW X7 preserves the appearance of adjustment layers and effects in the Masks panel in imported PSD files
  • Supports multiple Adobe Illustrator worksheets, preserves gradient transparency, blob brush strokes, and a new Prepare section
  • Corel PHOTO-PAINT® X7 preserves Saturation, Grayscale, and color filter settings in editable imported PSD files

AI and PDF files are opened in the same way as CorelDRAW files - using the command File > Open. Additionally, AI and PDF files can be imported. AI and PDF files are imported as grouped objects and can be placed anywhere in the current image.

Import Adobe Illustrator (AI) and Adobe Photoshop (PSD) files

You can import AI and PSD files up to and including CS6. For files saved in Adobe Illustrator CS (or higher) format, text can be imported as text or outlines (as long as the files are PDF compatible). If the file is not PDF compatible, then to import the text must first be converted to outlines using the command Type > Create Outlines (Type > Create Outline) in Adobe Illustrator.

  1. Select File > Import.
  2. On the list All file formats select AI - Adobe Illustrator.
  3. Import.

    When you import a PDF-compatible file that contains text, a dialog box appears Import PDF. In area Import text as check the box Text or Curves. If you are unsure which option to select, see the Importing a PDF File section.

    When importing text as text and if there are no fonts used in the installed file, a dialog box will appear. Select the settings you want and click OK.

  4. When the import cursor appears, do one of the following:
    • Click on the drawing page to save the original file and position the top left corner where you click.
    • Click and drag across the drawing page to change the file size. The import cursor displays new file sizes as you drag.
    • Click Enter to center the file on the drawing page.

The import cursor displays the name and dimensions of the file to be imported.

Adobe Illustrator graphics are imported into the program as a group of objects. To manage objects in imported graphics files, select Object > Group > Ungroup (CTRL+U).

Import a PDF file

You can achieve the best text display results in your PDF file by choosing the correct way to import the text - as text or as curves. The following tips will help you make the right choice:

  • When you import text as text, the text remains fully editable as curly or plain text. However, some effects and formatting may be lost. This option is recommended if the PDF file contains large blocks of text (such as a periodical) that you need to reformat or add specific text content to.
  • When you import text as curves, the appearance of the text, including effects, is preserved and each character is converted into a curve object. In this case, the formatting functions can no longer be used to edit text. This option is suitable for importing a PDF file that contains a small amount of text that you do not need to edit, or in a situation where the fonts used in the PDF file are not available.
  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + I.
  2. Find the folder where the file is stored.
  3. On the list All file formats select PDF - Adobe Portable Document Format.
  4. Click the file name and click the button Import.

    If the file is password protected, enter a valid password in the appropriate field.

  5. In the dialog box Import PDF in area Import text as select one of the following options:
    • Text- allows you to edit and format text from a PDF file. If there are no fonts used in the PDF file, select the necessary options in the dialog box Substitution for missing fonts and click OK.
    • Curves- converts text into curves and preserves the appearance of the original text.

Import PDF Dialog Box

  1. If you are importing a multi-page document, select the pages you want and click OK.

When you import a multi-page PDF document, the Import PDF dialog box expands to allow you to select the pages you want.

  1. When the import cursor appears, click the drawing page.

    You can click and drag across the drawing page to change the file size, or click Enter to place the file in the center of the document.

We make sure that all design elements are in place, the raster images have not changed color, and the fonts are still readable. The printed field lacks all service marks - creasing lines, perforations, cuttings and the thinnest frames that match the trimmed format. If the document contains elements that are not intended to be printed, they must be removed.

We check for the presence of crop marks and overhangs for trimming (we check their sizes and other geometric parameters of the document in the main menu Document > Crop Pages). Departures must be on every page, so we look through the ENTIRE document.

In the left Navigation Panel, select the Pages tab and make sure that all pages of the document are present in the file, and their sequence is correct(1 – face, 2 – back, 3 – face, etc.).

If the face and the back were created in different files, we combine them by dragging the page from Pages of the back into Pages of the publication file using the mouse. All work must be in one PDF.

If, when creating a brochure, the cover was made as a spread, we move the pages so that the fourth page of the cover is the last page in the publication. If a multi-page publication contains blank pages, they must be present in the file. For example: if the cover in a brochure is printed 4+0, then the following sequence must be observed: 1 - first page of the cover, 2 - blank page, 3 - first page of the block, ..., penultimate - blank page, last - fourth page of the cover.

The pages in the file must be oriented so that they remain readable when flipped from left to right. If we are preparing a product for printing that requires a different method of turning, for example, a horizontal brochure stapled along the wide side, or an invitation card that opens up, then we turn the even pages: in the main menu Document > Rotate Pages Direction: 180 deg.; All; Rotate: Even Pages Only > OK.

The printer's guide is your PDF, and mutual alignment of sides, by default, “head to head”, regardless of the location of texts and graphics within the page.

PDF Having created a multi-page document, adding text, pictures and setting the background, you can begin saving it in PDF format.

create To do this, select the command in the File menu item Publish to PDF 1 . The usual Save File 2 dialog box will open, with several additional fields appearing.

saving If errors occur during document generation, you can find out about them on the last tab of the dialog box 16. The inscription on the label of this folder No Problems means there are no errors. If there are errors, their number 16 is indicated on the label, and in the window itself - ways to solve the problems that have arisen. By following these instructions 17, you can easily correct errors and then save the document in PDF format.

Rice. 56. Creating PDF documents in CorelDRAW

preparation The created PDF document can be viewed on any computer where a common program is installed Adobe Reader. Recently, computer documentation is increasingly supplied in this format. Instead of a printed volume of documentation, you are offered a CD with a file in the format PDF. And the software itself for viewing these files (Adobe Reader) is distributed free of charge along with the documentation disk.

Convert files to PDF in CorelDRAW X5

Using CorelDRAW, a document can be export to PDF file format. A PDF file can be viewed, shared, and printed on any platform as long as the user has Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Acrobat Reader, or another program that supports viewing PDF files installed on the user's computer.

In order to export a CorelDRAW document to PDF format, expand the File menu and select the command "Export".

In the File Name field, enter the name of the document.

In the File Type list, select the PDF - Adobe Portable Document Format option. Click the Export button.

The PDF Options dialog box opens.

Under Export Range, select one of the following options:

“Current document” - will allow you to export the current document;
“Documents” - will allow you to export several specified documents at once;
“Selected” - this option will allow you to export only selected image objects;
“Current page” - exports the currently active page;
“Pages” - exports the pages specified in the corresponding window.

If you selected the Selected options, the Page Size settings will become active.

Select from the following options:

The As Defined in CorelDRAW option applies the page size specified in the document. And the Defined by Objects on Page option sets the sizing resolution based on the size of the objects on the page.

As you can see, there are two drop-down lists at the bottom of the window.

In the “PDF Preparation” list you can select one of the preset settings conversion to PDF format.

Let's look at some of them:

Archiving CMYK - allows you to create a file that can be archived. Compared to regular PDF files, files created using this template are more suitable for long-term document storage, since they are more independent, including from the device.

These files include embedded fonts, device-independent color, and their own description as XMP metadata.

Archive RGB - Similar to the previous style, when selected, it creates a file that saves all spot and Lab colors. All other colors are converted to the RGB color mode.

Document Distribution - Stub allows you to create a PDF file that can be printed on a laser or desktop printer and is suitable for general document delivery. This style compresses raster images using the JPEG algorithm and allows you to include bookmarks and hyperlinks in your document.

Web - allows you to create a "PDF" file intended for interactive viewing, for example, for sending by e-mail or publishing on the Internet. This style also compresses bitmap images using the JPEG algorithm, compresses text, and includes hyperlinks in the document.

After selecting all the necessary settings, click the “OK” button.

The file will be exported in PDF format.

Also in CorelDRAW there is a way to quickly export a document to PDF format.

To do this, open the “File” menu and select the “Publish to PDF” command. The window of the same name opened. Select the folder where you want to save the file. Then, in the File Name field, enter the name of the document.

In the “PDF Preparation” drop-down list, select one of the preset conversion settings. If you need to change the settings for the PDF file, click Options. The already familiar window that we looked at a little earlier will open.

Thus, in your work with the CorelDRAW editor, you can use such a popular format as PDF. In the next lesson we will look at how to speed up export to PDF format by creating new templates.
