and other similar options, but with different sections.

This may occur due to the fact that you are trying to flash either a broken firmware file or from another Samsung device (you have an i9100 model, but are flashing from an i9300). This may also be a consequence of an attempt to downgrade the Android OS version.

Solution:

  1. Download the firmware from an alternative source, if there is any description of the file, then read it;
  2. Make sure that the firmware is intended for your Samsung device;
  3. If necessary, downgrade the Android OS version by deleting the sboot.bin file;
  4. In case of switching from custom firmware to official firmware, first perform a reset (wipe data and wipe system).

All official firmware for Samsung smartphones is released for installation via the Odin program. This program can install firmware on all Samsung smartphones using the Android operating system. If you have decided to update or restore your Samsung, then it's time to learn how to flash Samsung via Odin.

How to flash Samsung via Odin and what you need for this

Before you start flashing your smartphone, you need to make sure that the battery charge is more than 50%, otherwise the smartphone/tablet may turn off during the software installation, after which it will be very difficult to revive the device.

While charging your device, you need to prepare everything you need to update or restore your Samsung. Download and install the official Samsung driver, also download and extract the archive from Odin.

Instructions on how to flash Samsung via Odin will not help if the wrong firmware is selected.

How to choose firmware for Samsung

The first step is to decide how many files should be in the firmware. There are two types of firmware released for Samsung:

  • Single-file – simple firmware, great for updating a smartphone
  • Service (Multi-file) – 4-file firmware, which is best used to restore smartphone software

Also, firmware via Odin can help with memory re-partitioning; a PIT file is used for this. In simple terms, you can take memory from the built-in storage and give this memory for installing applications. It is better not to use a PIT file unless necessary.

All new Samsung devices have restrictions on system rollback, which is related to the bootloader. You will not be able to install firmware with a bootloader version lower than what is currently installed. To find out which firmware is right for you, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings - About phone
  • Find "Software Version"
  • The first 4 characters after the device model are the bootloader version

Samsung firmware with the same bootloader version will suit you. . If you can’t decide which firmware to download, write your device and software version in the comments, indicate your wishes and I will select the firmware for you.

If you see such an error, then you need to enable “USB Debugging” and “OEM Unlocking” in the settings, and also turn off “Remote Management”.

Today we will talk about firmware for a Samsung phone using the example of the Galaxy S i9003 model. For correct operation, it is necessary that the drivers for the phone are installed. If you already have the Kies program, then most likely you already have everything you need. I really don’t recommend flashing via Kies, because it often freezes halfway, or simply doesn’t see the smartphone, like mine. The Samsung company took care of us and released an additional program, which is called the name of the mythical god Odin. At the time of writing, the program version is 1.83. Install additional drivers (you can download everything below) that will help the program work with the phone in firmware mode.

I warn you, I am not responsible for all manipulations with the phone that you will do after reading this article. I have flashed it using this method several times without any problems or errors. But if flashing your phone does not help with your problems, under no circumstances tell the service center about it.

There are two types of firmware: 1 file and 5 files. They differ from each other in that 1 file updates the current firmware without affecting your saved information, while 5 files erases all the contents of the phone, except for the external memory card.

Firmware process with 1 file:
1. The phone must be turned off! We connect the phone to the computer via a USB cable.
2. Launch the Odin program.
3. Make sure that the phone is connected, in the picture it is indicated on the top left should be yellow, and in the message window it says “added” (added)

4. Click on the PDA button on the right and select the previously downloaded firmware file, if it is in the archive, unpack it (the extension should be .md5, .tar or smd).
5. Enter it into the firmware state by pressing the volume down + home button + power buttons in sequence until the Android picture with a shovel appears.
6. If everything is in order, press the start button in the ODIN program.
7. The firmware will last about 5 minutes and upon completion, the message PASS should appear in the program in the very top window! The device will reboot on its own and only when fully loaded can you disconnect the cable.

Firmware process with 5 files:
1. We carry out all operations as in the previous description until the 3rd step.
2. Unpack the archive with the firmware files into a separate folder.
3. Add files to the appropriate windows:
PIT- latona_20110114.pit(with pit extension)
PDA- I9003XXKC1-REV08-PDA-low-CL964212.tar.md5(name must contain PDA or CODE)
PHONE - MODEM_I9003XXKC1_REV_00_CL964949.tar.md5(the file contains the word MODEM)
CSC - CSC - GT-I9003-CSC-SERKC1.tar.md5(in the CSC file name)
BOOTLOADER - APBOOT_I9003XXKPU_CL984714_REV08_user_low_ship.tar.md5(the file name contains APBOOT)
These files may be completely different in content, but the indicated signs are required.
4. Check the Re-partition box
5. Press start and wait for the PASS message and a successful reboot.

Update: New version Odin 3.09 suitable for Windows 8. Also, if the phone is not detected on the eight, update Samsung Kies, it has the latest drivers built in, even for 64-bit systems.

Odin will be a very useful tool that will allow owners of Samsung branded products to flash their devices. Next will be given on the firmware via Odin. It is worth noting that the program was developed by professionals, so you don’t have to worry about the quality of the final result. Firmware via Odin is very simple and does not require users to have deep knowledge in certain aspects of Android devices.

Similar about Odin

The application was developed for Windows OS. After downloading the program, you get the opportunity to flash your Samsung phone or tablet. Once upon a time, Koreans used the utility only as professional software, introducing updates for their devices. Luckily, its files were leaked onto the Internet, allowing every Samsung fan to use it. You can download the application on many fan sites dedicated to the Korean manufacturer or Android devices in general. have long ceased to be dangerous for your devices. However, not all users dare to take such radical measures, getting rid of stock ones and going free of pirated programs. It is worth noting that updating Samsung firmware via Odin will open up new capabilities of your device that are not available in stock solutions.

This is where a dilemma arises, because many people establish a certain identity that looks like this: flashing = big risk = loss of warranty on the device. But all these are just myths based on long-standing stereotypes. Nowadays there is simply an insane number of owners of Samsung devices in the world, so a measure was taken to create software that would be suitable only for these devices and only in a high-quality form. It was Odin that became such an application, “flying in” from the world of Scandinavian mythology. And here you can be 100% sure that you will definitely not harm your phone or tablet by using this program.

Program versions

In order for the firmware to be successfully installed via Odin, there are a number of different versions of the program, each of which is designed for a particular Samsung device. The main file extensions include the following: .bin, .tar and .md5. By the way, the most stable versions are 1.85, 3.07 and 3.10.6. Next, we will indicate how the Samsung firmware should be installed through Odin, and also talk about the main options of the program.

Program options

So that you don’t get lost in the Odin program, let’s take a brief tour of the main options:

  • Auto Reboot - if this option is checked, your device will automatically reboot after successful completion of the firmware;
  • Re-Partition - allows you to redistribute the file system according to factory presets (RFS);
  • F. Reset Time - function allows you to reset the counter of previous firmware;
  • PIT - if the Re-Partition function was checked in the second one, you will need to specify the path to the .pit file, which will make it possible to redistribute the device’s file system;
  • CSC - designed to open a file that contains data specific to certain countries and operators;
  • PDA - the option is necessary to select the necessary files with firmware;
  • Phone - allows you to select the modem file that is needed for the firmware process.

You need to be extremely careful when using the Odin program. This is especially true for the Re-Partition function, because if you do not have a .pit file, then it is better not to check the box next to this option. Finally, it is worth remembering that the software is intended only for Samsung devices. Flashing other brands of phones via Odin can lead to unpleasant consequences. As alternatives, you can use FlashTools or KDZ Updater.

Preparing for the firmware process

In order for Samsung firmware via Odin to be successful, you need to complete several preparatory steps. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  1. First of all, you need to download and install USB drivers for your device. If you wish, you can use Samsung Kies, when installed, the drivers will be installed automatically.
  2. Then you need to make sure that the device has backup copies of important files that will be lost after the firmware is updated. It is advisable to create backups on an external memory card or computer.
  3. Next, we charge the phone/tablet to 100% (or at least 80%), so that the power does not go out during the firmware process.
  4. In the settings, enable the “USB Debugging” option, which is available in the “For Developers” section. Make sure that the Samsung Keis application is not running. Otherwise, disable it through Device Manager.

It is worth noting that when installing official firmware via Odin, the chance of damaging the device is extremely low. Of course, if you follow all the instructions. Nevertheless, all actions are performed at your own peril and risk, so if you are not sure of the final result, it is better to take your device to a service center. Next, let's move on to the firmware process itself.

Firmware process

As an example, we will describe how Samsung Galaxy firmware should be flashed via Odin. The algorithm is as follows:

  1. First of all, download the official firmware for your device to your computer.
  2. Next, enable download mode on the device. As a rule, in Samsung devices it is launched by pressing the following key combination: Power (Turn on/off the device) + Volume Down (volume down key). Then confirm the action by pressing the Volume Up button. Be sure to press the keys at the same time.
  3. Next, launch the Odin program on the PC and make sure that the Auto Reboot and Reset Time options are checked. This is extremely important.
  4. We connect the phone or tablet to the PC using a USB cable. After detecting your device, the program will change the color of one of the ID:COM windows.
  5. Next, press the PDA button located in the Odin program interface and select the .tar or .md5 file.
  6. Click on START, after which the firmware process starts. Disconnecting your device from the PC during installation is strictly prohibited.
  7. Once your device has successfully completed the firmware process, it will automatically reboot. At this stage, you can remove the cable from the PC and start using the device. As you can see, everything is very simple.

This instruction for flashing firmware via Odin is the most common. If you adhere to all points, success awaits you!

Creating Root access to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phones

If you need to open the “superuser” mode, then the Odin and SF-Autoroot programs can help with this. So, we follow this algorithm of actions:

  1. Download SF-Autoroot for a specific phone model, which can be found in the “About phone” settings menu item. The files themselves can be easily found on the Internet. If you cannot find a file for a particular model, it is better to leave everything in stock mode, because other actions can harm the device.
  2. Download Odin and install USB drivers for your phone.
  3. Turn off the Galaxy Note 2 and put it into download mode. It turns on by simultaneously pressing 3 buttons: Volume Down + Home + Power. Then, to confirm the actions, press Volume Up and connect the device to the PC.
  4. In Odin, click on the PDA button, where we select the required file with the extension tar.md5. Then check the boxes next to the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options. Make sure that no other functions are checked.
  5. Click "Start" and wait for the installation to complete.

As you can see, flashing firmware via Odin is not the only advantage of this program. If you do everything wisely and according to the instructions, the application will be an excellent help for owners of Samsung devices.

From time to time, it makes sense for users of Android devices to update the device's firmware. Such a need can be caused either by the release of truly important additions that affect the performance and security of the gadget, or by various technical reasons. However, in some cases, the program used for flashing may not detect the connected device, which significantly complicates the task.

Why doesn't Odin find the device I'm looking for?

There are quite a few reasons why the odin program does not see a Samsung phone, which significantly impedes correct diagnosis. However, we can identify the most common reasons for this behavior of the program.

The device may not be detected by the program if the OS installed on the computer is outdated or does not have the necessary drivers. As a rule, a necessary requirement for performing manipulations with firmware and using Odin in general is the presence of a package that can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website.

If the smartphone still cannot be detected, it is worth checking. Many users reported that the device often did not work properly when connected to the front panel of the system unit. You should try to connect it to the connector on the rear panel. The cable manufacturer is also important. In a number of cases, when flashing the device, various errors arose that were eliminated only by replacing the cable with the original.

Other reasons

The above reasons are the most common, however, there are a number of others that you should pay attention to.

IMPORTANT! Before carrying out any manipulations, the gadget must be in the appropriate operating mode.

In addition, in order to prevent problems, it is worth removing existing drivers and Kies, and then reinstalling them. After carrying out such an update, you must restart the computer so that the changes made are guaranteed to take effect.

Other reasons include:

  • Incorrect operation of the antivirus;
  • Inappropriate version of the Odin program;
  • Incompatible OS or other hardware.

Although incompatible devices are extremely rare, it makes sense to try flashing the firmware using a different computer. In most cases, this allows you to solve the problem if other methods did not help the user.

Situations often arise when you need to transfer information from one source to a second. For example, send several photos from your phone to your computer. But it also happens that many people encounter such a problem when the computer does not see the phone for firmware.

Experts identify a number of reasons, or rather software and hardware failures, why the computer does not see the phone in firmware mode, in particular we are talking about:

  1. If the OS does not have a special driver that is responsible for this function.
  2. The fact that the driver does not match the model of the computer device.
  3. If a damaged cable or one that is not intended for this task is used for connection.
  4. The fact of a breakdown in the USB socket (both on one and on the second device). Also, there may be a foreign object that must be disposed of.
  5. A similar problem can occur when a static electricity fault occurs.
  6. Failures during the operation of a special application that is responsible for synchronizing equipment.
  • software problems. In this case, the computer will not display the information contained on the mobile phone. But despite this device, it will charge normally;
  • physical malfunction. In such situations, charging will not occur.

As a rule, the main problem that the computer does not see the phone for firmware is the lack of a special driver; in this case, you need to download and install it. But, even if this does not help, then you should:

  1. Check whether you are performing all the steps correctly while working with the program that installs the same firmware.
  2. Make sure that USB debugging is enabled on your mobile device and that the device itself is running in bootloader mode.
  3. Try to connect the device via the shortest cable, but do not use other adapters.

Regarding the problem when, this may indicate a breakdown in the mobile itself.

Watch the video about what to do if the PC does not see the phone for subsequent firmware.

Why doesn’t the laptop see the phone via USB, and what should I do?

If you know for sure that the cause of this problem definitely lies in your mobile phone, then you can follow these steps:

  1. Try rebooting the gadget.
  2. Connect your mobile to another PC. As soon as the connection occurs, slide down the quick settings menu and check that in the “Connect as” list there is no checkmark next to “Charge only”. Then select the “USB storage” function.
  3. Go to Android settings. Go to “Wireless Networks”, activate modem mode.
  4. Try experimenting and put your device into a special USB debugging mode. Find the “System” section, then there you need to uncheck or check the box next to the “USB debugging” item.
  5. Try disconnecting the gadget from the computer, then turn it off and remove the battery. Just a few minutes later, put the battery back in place, turn on the device and try repeating the procedure again.
  6. Try to remember, maybe after installing some applications, you encountered such problems. If so, be sure to remove them.
  7. Finally, do not forget about possible viruses. In this case, you must definitely scan the device with an antivirus; if detected, the program will eliminate them.

And also, experts say that you can reset the device’s OS settings, but keep in mind that a lot of information may also be damaged.

Please note that all of the above steps must be performed in order. After each of these actions, be sure to check whether the problem was resolved. If everything remains the same, then feel free to try further. If you suddenly encounter the problem, then before contacting repairmen, try to cope with such a problem yourself and only in extreme cases go to service centers.

What to do if the computer is the culprit of such a failure?

If you are absolutely sure that the computer is faulty, and it is as a result of a breakdown on it that the computer ultimately does not see the phone without a flash drive, then in this case experts recommend performing the following steps:

  1. Turn off the PC completely. This action is aimed at discharging the capacitance and removing the stray static charge. Because it is this phenomenon that can block the location of other connected devices.
  2. Be sure to open the cover of the system unit and check that all groups of USB ports are securely connected.
  3. Then do a software check, in particular, in the device manager, check if portable devices, or rather your mobile device, are in the list of equipment. If it is there, but is marked with a black arrow in a circle (it does not work), then right-click on the line, and then select “Enable device” from the menu.
  4. Keep in mind that problems with recognizing connected devices may occur as a result of boot failure, corruption, or the absence of appropriate drivers. In such a situation, several exclamation characters will be present in the “USB Controllers” section.

Failure in the physical interface

Experts strongly advise against using faulty interfaces, even if the gadget still charges. Don’t forget that you can transfer information over a wireless network or use cloud services, which can be used on both devices. Thus, it is cloud services that are most convenient to use to transfer photo and video files.

And if you want to control your mobile phone from your computer, you can, as an option, install MyPhoneExplorer on it. This application consists of two interconnected parts - for the phone and for the PC. By the way, such applications do not require additional driver installation.
