Graphics tablet - connection and operation settings. Optimal Nvidia graphics card settings for gaming

Disclaimer

This guide was written before the release of patches for Dizonored, so some of the recommended settings for performance may not be entirely correct.

Determining the "vulnerable" places of your hardware

Based on the system requirements, you can determine the weak points of your system (if any).

What roles do various computer devices play in games:

(This section will provide rough examples for a more concise and clear explanation)

CPU

The "manager" of your computer that "tells" each device how to work.
For example: the processor sends a number of resources that need to be generated and “sketched” to the video card, then when the video card has done its job, the “processed resources” are returned to the processor and it distributes them.
In general, the processor calculates the location and interaction of objects in games.
What is important here is the power of the cores, not their number.

RAM

This is where the temporary resources of your devices are added “in reserve”.
For example: The video card made a clear human texture while loading the level. While you are far from the “owner” of this texture, a simpler texture will be used to improve performance. When you get closer, the processor will quickly unload this very texture from RAM.
What matters here is the total number of gigs of RAM.

Video card

The most important device required for gaming.
The video card takes on the most “dirty” work in games.
1) Sketch textures
2) Calculates physics (not always)
3) Displays the image on the screen
4)Processes shaders
and many other quite important things
By the way, everything you see on your monitor is the work of your video card.
Several parameters are important here
1)Video card GPU(aka GPU)
2)Temporary video memory capacity

Persistent memory

The ROM contains all the game files required for normal play.

Basic settings that are present in all games

Screen resolution

This setting should always be set to your monitor. If you set the resolution higher than the resolution of your monitor, you still won’t see the difference, and if on the contrary, you will significantly reduce the quality of the picture.
This setting should be used as a last resort for performance, that is, in the most critical situations.

Display Mode

Game brightness

For a more realistic look, you need to adjust it to your monitor so that the shadows are truly shadows, and not just darkened areas. Do not overuse brightness.

line of sight

The field of view that is suitable for you under your conditions can be calculated using a formula that can be found on the Internet.
For example: When playing, my head is slightly above the center of the monitor and the distance to it is about 40 cm. Therefore, my calculated viewing angle is 80-90 degrees.
But keep in mind that as the viewing angle increases, the video card will have to draw more, i.e. the load on it will increase.

Vertical Sync

An unpredictable mademoiselle who is still debated on the Internet to this day.
Needed to eliminate gaps in the image by preparing frames.
The point is that vertical sync can either help your problem or make it worse.
It depends on how the developers implemented V-sync for the game engine.
Experiment with this setting.

FPS limit

Always set to 60 frames, because FPS is related to the game engine and affects physics. With a very high value, physics can go crazy

texture detail

This parameter is responsible for the quality of all textures in the game.
I believe that this parameter is a priority, since it is very and often noticeable and affects the game experience. If you don't have enough temporary memory on your video card(<2 GB),то рекомендуется ставить низкие/средние настройки графики
Low VS Ultra↓

Character Detail

This parameter is responsible for 2 settings:
1) Range of drawing clear textures (For example: 30,70,150 meters)
2) Definition for the “Clear textures” parameter itself (For example: low, medium, high texture quality)
At a far distance from you, character models will have simple textures (or low-quality textures); when approaching a distance specified by the setting, the textures will begin to be drawn to the quality specified by the setting.
Requires temporary video card memory and RAM.
I believe that this setting you can donate ,I don’t think that during the game you will look at every wrinkle of the character.
Low VS Ultra↓

Water detail

This parameter is responsible for 3 settings
1) Foam (wave effect when interacting with water)
2) Glare
3) Reflections
I believe that this option can be feel free to set it to very low , since you rarely encounter water during the game, and the water is not poorly made, so it won’t hurt your eyes.
Requires a powerful video card (due to "Foam")
Very low VS Ultra↓

Environment detail

Shadow detail

1)Shadow drawing distance
2)Accuracy of shadows
I think that the shadows on ultra and high ones look implausible. This can be corrected using NVIDIA PCSS technology, but it is not built into the disonored:
can be set to low or medium because it doesn't hurt your eyes.
Shadows are demanding on the video card
Very low VS Ultra↓

Decals quality

This parameter controls several settings
1) Number of simultaneously processed decals
2) Time until decals disappear
You can bet at any setting you like. Love it when during combat there are a lot of small details left from walls, blood, and shells.
Requires video card resources
Very low VS Ultra↓

Smoothing

This parameter will be difficult to display on screenshots, since Steam reduces the resolution of the screenshot. Game resolution - 1980x1080, Screenshot resolution - 1904 × 1001 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Eliminates aliasing in images
Highly recommend set TXAA with sharpness<15.Влияет на впечатление от игры,с этой настройкой мир становится реалистичнее.
FXAA - does not affect performance at all
TXAA - goes by coefficient depending on the "sharpness" semi-sign

Hi all!

Insufficient quality graphics is a big problem for every PC user, and especially for gamers. No matter how great your computer is, if you are a gaming enthusiast, you want to get the most out of your machine.

Of course, most often to solve this problem it is enough to simply change the video card. But the quality of graphics can be improved without a video card, using certain software methods.

In this material I will tell you how to improve computer graphics using various methods.

Hardware method

As I wrote above, the simplest method of improving graphics data is to purchase a new, more powerful video card. You can immediately go to the store and consult with the seller about which card is best to install on your computer, or first read review articles on this topic.

Installing it is not difficult. The card comes with a disk that contains the driver installation program.

Improved images can also be achieved by purchasing a more powerful processor or increasing RAM.

Balanced system

It must be remembered that normal computer operation is only possible if the system is balanced. If you have little RAM or a weak processor, then installing even the best video card will not achieve anything.

But on the other hand, if you have a weak video card, you should not think that increased memory or installing a new processor will solve the problem. The cost of the processor and card is almost the same (for gaming-type computers it can be up to 15,000 rubles). Increasing the memory will cost a little less, but it all depends on how specifically you want to increase it.

Software method

If you want to improve your graphics performance, but do not have the financial means to purchase expensive new products, you can “upgrade” your video card using software methods, in other words, optimize its settings. To do this, you need to first find its settings, for this:

  1. Right-click on the desktop
  2. Select “Properties” from the drop-down menu
  3. Activate the “Options” tab
  4. If, in addition to video card drivers, special utilities are installed on your PC, then click on the “Advanced” button.

The above path should be used for Windows XP system. As for Windows 7 and Windows 8, here you need to: go to “My Computer”, click “Properties” in the drop-down menu, select “Device Manager” on the right, you will find video adapters in the list. Find your video card, right-click on its name and call “Properties”.

In my windows 10 I do this:

  1. Right mouse button on the desktop
  2. Select "Nvidia Control Panel"
  3. On the left side of the menu, click on “manage 3D parameters”

After completing the above described manipulations, you will see the map settings panel. There will be a bunch of parameters, but you only need a small part of them to work.

Filtering, smoothing

Since NVIDIA video cards are currently the most popular, we will analyze the settings using these cards as an example. In principle, others are configured in almost exactly the same way.

Among the many settings, you should be interested in “ Managing 3D Settings", since this is the section you will work with. The following points are of particular interest in this section:

  • Smoothing - parameters;
  • Vertical sync pulse;
  • Anisotropic filtering.

The first and last setting values are 32x, 16x, 8x, 4x, 2x. Moreover, the higher the value, the more pleasant and smooth the picture will be.

The vertical sync pulse (item No. 2) can be controlled by the parameters of the 3D application, and can be disabled or enabled. It should be enabled for maximum graphics enhancement.

In some cases, access to the Options - Anti-aliasing setting may be disabled. To set the required values, you need to set “Increase application settings” in “Smoothing - mode”.

That's all, dear friends! Now you know how to increase the clarity, brightness and other characteristics of the image.

By the way, the course will teach you this and much more. Computer genius" Here, in a simple and accessible form, all the intricacies of working on a computer are described. A person of any age can master computer literacy with the help of this course. He is able to make a real computer “ace” out of any “teapot”!

In the design world, more and more space is being devoted to applications that make working with graphics programs easier. The leading position among all gadgets is occupied by a graphics tablet.

It is thanks to him that modern designers have received a number of advantages, such as ease of drawing illustrations to the smallest detail (which would not be possible to achieve using a mouse), and the ability to control the thickness of the pen line depending on the pressure applied.

In Adobe Illustrator, you can draw on a tablet using tools such as a pencil, a brush, and a blob brush. We will talk about them in this article. But we will focus specifically on how to set up such tools for working with a graphics tablet.

I would like to note that the brush tool is most convenient to use for drawings consisting of lines of different thicknesses, and the pencil tool is best suited for drawing silhouettes.

Let's get started!

The most important thing is a properly configured pen

Open Window – Brushes and select any round brush. Double-click on the icon of your chosen brush, which opens a dialog box with its settings. In this window, set the following parameters: Diameter - 10, pen pressure, 10 (equal to the maximum diameter of the brush). Such parameters will allow us to further change the thickness of the contour depending on the degree of pressure from 0 to twice the size.

To check what we have done, select the Blob Brush Tool and start placing points with different degrees of pressure.

Having practiced in this way, you will be able to create a contour with different thicknesses without interrupting it, which can be extremely useful when drawing.

If you were unable to draw with different pressures, then I advise you to play with the pen settings of the tablet itself, which are located in the Start menu - All programs - Wacom Tablet - Wacom tablet properties. Adjust the Pen Sensitivity until you can draw such a line without much difficulty.

Setting up the Paintbrush Tool

Double-click on the icon of this tool on the Toolbar so that a window with settings appears. Now let's get acquainted with the parameters of the Brush tool.

Fill new brush strokes - When you select this option, the program applies a fill to the path, which is especially useful when drawing closed paths.

Keep selected—when this option is selected, the program keeps the path selected after finishing drawing it.

Editing area for selected contours - when you select this option, you can make changes to the selected contour.

Within: _ pixels (available when selecting the previous option) - shows how close pixels the brush should be to an existing path in order to make changes to the path.

Setting up the Blob Brush Tool

Double-click on the icon of this tool on the Toolbar so that a window with settings appears. Now let's get acquainted with the parameters of the Blob Brush tool.

Keep selected - when this option is selected, the program automatically keeps the outlines selected while drawing continues.

Merge only with the selected area - when you select this option, the program merges the new stroke with the existing selected one.

Accuracy - Shows how far you can move the brush before the program automatically adds a new anchor point. Available values range from 0.5 to 20 pixels. The higher the value you set, the less complex the contour you create will be (with fewer anchor points) and, accordingly, will be smoother.

Anti-aliasing—shows the degree of anti-aliasing when drawing. Available values range from 0 to 100%. The higher the percentage value you choose, the smoother the outline will be when drawing.

Size – set the size of the brush.

Angle - choose the angle of rotation of the brush.

Roundness - shows the roundness of the brush (the higher its value, the greater the roundness).

Setting up the Pencil Tool

Double-click on the icon of this tool on the Toolbar so that a window with settings appears. Now let's get acquainted with the parameters of the Pencil tool.

Deviation—responsible for the frequency of adding new anchor points when drawing with a pencil. The higher the value, the less sharp the corners and vice versa.

Smoothness—responsible for the degree of smoothing when drawing. The higher the value, the smoother and smoother the created outline will be.

Fill new pencil strokes - this option allows the program to apply a fill to the stroke. Before drawing, don't forget to choose a fill color.

Keep path selected—selecting this option allows you to keep the path selected after it is created.

The edit zone for selected paths determines whether the selected path can be edited or merged when the pointer is within a certain distance from it (specified by the following parameter).

Within: 20 px. (available if the previous option is selected) - shows how close the pencil must be to an existing path in order to make changes to the path.

To return the default settings, simply click the Restore button.

In the last article we talked about which one is needed and this is the primary condition for a comfortable game. But no less important is the correct setting of the game parameters.

Correct settings are the key to a comfortable game! Now we will briefly look at all the game settings and pay special attention to graphics settings.

1. General settings

The “Game” tab contains general settings.

In the “Chat” section, you can enable message censorship so that stars are displayed instead of swear words (recommended for children). Here you can also disable spam, invitations to a platoon, friend requests and messages from those who are not in your contact list (friends). Personally, I'm fed up with these messages, I turned off the chat altogether and am enjoying the game

In the “Types of random battles” section, you can disable “Encounter battle” and “Assault”. These modes use the same maps as in random battles, but the location of the bases and victory conditions have been changed. In the “Encounter Battle” mode, there is one common base and the team that captures it or destroys all opponents wins. In Assault mode, one team defends the base, the other defends. To win, the Defenders must prevent the base from being captured and at least one team member survive. To win, the Attackers need to capture the base or destroy all opponents at any cost. Personally, I don’t like these types of fights, but you can try them for a change and see if they suit your taste.

In the “Combat Interface” section, you can turn off the effect of optics (the green background in the sight) so that it does not spoil the picture, and turn off the display of the vehicle that destroyed you (if this makes you nervous).

Be sure to check the “Enable dynamic camera” and “Horizontal stabilization in the sniper scope” checkboxes, otherwise it’s simply impossible to shoot on the move, the scope dangles in all directions!

I uncheck the “Show vehicle markers on the scoreboard” and “Show combat effectiveness tapes” checkboxes, because I don’t see the point in them, they are just distracting.

As for the minimap options (camera direction beam, SPG firing sector and additional features), I disable them because I am using a minimap mod with advanced capabilities, which I will tell you about in the next article. This is important, if you, like me, use the minimap mod, then disable these parameters so that they are not duplicated, thereby reducing performance.

When the “Record battles” option is enabled, small files (replays) will be recorded in the “replays” folder, which is located in the game folder, which can then be viewed. This almost does not affect the performance of the game and you can easily share them with friends or upload them to the site “wotreplays.ru” so that other users can watch how you bend But these are not video files, they can only be played by the game itself and stop working after exit next patch. Therefore, if you want to post a video on YouTube or save the history of your victories for posterity, do not forget to digitize the best replays after hard battles using some program for recording video from the screen (ShadowPlay, Bandicam, Fraps).

Well, by checking the last checkbox “Display distinctive marks” you can compare barrels with players in the game. Stars or notches (from 1 to 3) received in battles for great services to the homeland will be displayed on the barrel of your tank

Immediately when you switch to the Graphics tab, the screen settings are displayed.

If you have just installed the game and it is still displayed in a window and not on the full screen, then check the “Full screen” box and click the “Apply” button. Only after this you need to select “Screen Resolution”. If you have a liquid crystal (flat-panel, TFT) monitor, then choose the maximum resolution and leave the frame rate at 60. If you still have a fucking box of a picture tube (CRT) monitor on your desk, then a resolution of 1280x1024 with a frequency of 85 Hz is usually suitable for it ( or 75 Hz). Click “Apply” and if everything is displayed normally (not stretched or flickering), then this is good. If you cannot find the resolution you need or the image appears stretched, then try also changing the “Screen Aspect Ratio”.

In the Graphics Quality field, you can manually select low, medium, high, or maximum quality. This will install the appropriate set of settings, which we will talk about next. If you are not playing on a calculator (a very weak laptop), then make sure that the “3D render resolution” slider is set to 100% and uncheck “Dynamic change”, otherwise the picture in the game will be blurry.

It is better not to enable the “Vertical Sync” option, as it negatively affects performance. This is only required in case of noticeable frame tearing and is applicable on high-end gaming PCs. The “Triple Buffering” setting is needed to improve the performance of the video card when “Vertical Sync” is enabled, but it affects the performance of the processor that performs this buffering.

The Anti-aliasing parameter improves the picture, it becomes softer and more natural, but this significantly loads the video card and is designed for powerful gaming PCs. In this field you can select different anti-aliasing modes from lighter (FXAA) to quite heavy (TSSAA-HQ).

“Viewing Angle (FoV)” sets the location of the camera relative to your tank. That is, the angle at which you will look at it. The default is set to 95 degrees and "Dynamic FoV" is disabled. Nobody really complains about these settings, so you can leave everything as it is. If you want to experiment, then you now know how everything was, so that you can put it back in place later

The “Gamma” parameter adjusts the brightness, but don’t touch it in vain, it’s better to reset your monitor to default settings, since the game is well calibrated.

“Color filter” is a gourmet option that imposes a different background in the game, similar to the effects in cameras. I tried it, it’s glamorous but useless...

Well, “Color Blind Mode” is intended for people with vision problems.

On the same “Graphics” tab, if you click on the “Advanced” button, the graphics quality settings will be displayed.

At the very top there are the already familiar “Recommended” button for automatically selecting the optimal parameters, the “Graphics Quality” field for setting a set of settings from low to maximum, the “3D render resolution” slider, which should be at 100%, and the “Dynamic change” checkbox. , which should not have a check mark.

As graphics quality increases, the frame rate per second (FPS) decreases. It is believed that a person sees 24 frames per second and for the smoothness of the picture it is desirable that the game produces at least 30 FPS. But from my own experience I can say that normal game dynamics start at 60 FPS.

What is the difference between low dynamics and high dynamics? With low dynamics, your tank drives like a Zhiguli (it just stalls), although maybe like a BMW. I have felt this more than once and you will feel it if you follow my advice! Extras (majors) have powerful computers that, even with high graphics settings, produce decent FPS (100 or more). Therefore, they feel the dynamics in the game much better, the machine subtly reacts to every fiber of the soul and they play more efficiently. And on a fast ST or LT without dynamics it’s generally sad... I’m not even talking about supercomputers that are used in e-sports. This is exactly what they are needed for - for dynamics.

An online game is not a single-player shooter and what is important in it is victory over a live opponent, and not sluggish participation in a meat grinder with bots. Then the game gives that desired moral satisfaction after hard work, and not frustration and a bottle of vodka. Convinced, no? Then read on

I have a mid-range gaming PC and it runs the game at maximum graphics settings, delivering 40 FPS. At high settings it produces an average of 60 FPS. In the settings window that I provided above, you can select the graphics type “Standard” or “Enhanced”. So, despite the fact that the hardware allows it, I have long preferred to play on standard graphics, without extra goodies.

Just like that, simply and angrily, yes. But what a pleasure the game brings when you race on a bachata (or at least a four-wheeler) at a speed of 100-150 FPS! And there’s not a speck of dust in your eye, no clouds of smoke and rising earth from a T92 shell that fell nearby, no scary grass painted schoolchildren for ice cream highly paid designers, no fog that prevents you from aiming the T95 hatch from 500 meters, no other nasty graphic innovations that turn a BMW into a Zhiguli and prevent you from playing effectively.

Many computers handle standard graphics much better, the FPS is many times higher, and nothing prevents you from manually setting the available sliders to high parameters, at which the picture turns out to be quite neat, clean and dynamic!

I also recommend turning off grass and effects in sniper mode (they are very annoying), foliage transparency (makes the game even cleaner and faster), tracks and effects from under the tracks (you never look at them at all). “Quality extra. effects" it is better not to set it above average or turn it off altogether, since they also interfere (for example, when an artillery shell explodes nearby). It’s better to uncheck the “Dynamically change the quality of effects” checkbox; there’s no need for the graphics in the game to float.

In addition to high dynamics and clarity of the picture, you will receive some pleasant bonuses that you will notice as the game progresses (for example, thanks to the transparency of the water, you can clearly see the bottom topography and where you can drive along it). Try it, play for a while and you will notice that you have become more effective at playing. The main thing is not to rush forward on the wings of FPS

I don't promise anything, because I don't eat ties or caps. But if you still don't like the standard graphics, just change the settings. The screenshot below shows the settings for improved graphics, providing an optimal quality/performance ratio for an average-power PC.

You can download a detailed description of the settings for improved graphics, how they affect image quality, and what load they place on the video card and processor in the “” section.

And also, if you need to restart the game to apply the settings, a corresponding message will appear. In any case, I recommend restarting the game if you make major changes to graphics settings.

When we get to mods, there are still interesting opportunities to make the picture cleaner and the sight more stable

If, despite all the settings, your computer is sorely lacking in performance, consider installing a new level of GTX 1050 Ti or 1060.

MSI GTX 1050 Ti graphics card

Here is a screenshot of the settings in the Sound tab.

Everything seems clear here, so I’ll just add a little personal experience.

I turn off the music right away, it interferes with the game no less than the improved graphics

If you do not use a microphone in team battles, then disable voice communication by unchecking the only checkbox. Turn it on if necessary. Communication works on the principle of a walkie-talkie - you press the microphone activation button (Q), say, release and listen to others. Anyone who holds the button for a long time pollutes the air with noise from his microphone (computer, apartment).

Headphones A4Tech Bloody G430

The microphone must be connected before starting the game. If your microphone is not always on, then after connecting it it is better to restart the computer, otherwise it may not work or work poorly. First check through the Skype testing service that the microphone is working properly, you can be heard well and there is no strong background noise. If necessary, increase (or decrease) the microphone sensitivity in the system settings (in Windows 7: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Manage audio devices\Recording).

Then launch the game, enable voice communication and select your microphone in the appropriate field. The Player Voice Volume setting affects how you hear others. The default “microphone sensitivity” should be sufficient; at level 70 and up, your voice may begin to hum and cause discomfort to other players, do not overdo it with this parameter and ask your comrades not “How can you hear me?”, but “Is it too loud?” ?. I usually reduce the “general ambient volume level during a conversation” to 50, this muffles all the sounds of the game at the moment when a comrade speaks to you and you don’t have to ask him again.

Well, the last, but not the newest feature is national voice acting. I usually leave the standard one, because who knows what the crew of a Chinese tank is babbling there, but it’s worth a try, it’s a challenging thing

And yet, there is some other “Start test” button, which I just noticed. Try it, tell me later in the comments

In the mods we will also install sound on the light bulb, what a song!

With the settings on the “Management” tab, everything is even simpler.

But I will still give some advice. I recommend reducing the sensitivity of the sniper scope and increasing the sensitivity of the artillery scope. Set it approximately like in my screenshot. This will give higher aiming accuracy when you are in a tank, since with high sensitivity, especially at medium and long distances, it is difficult to target enemies, the sight moves too quickly. And when you’re on the art, on the contrary, you’re tired of dragging the scope back and forth across the entire map with low sensitivity, and the mat gets erased...

Mouse A4Tech XL-740K

Don’t even think about turning on any inversion, only plums will work

And one more good piece of advice. If you have a mouse with additional buttons, then you can assign a specific consumables cell to one of them. In cells 1-3, the types of projectiles are switched and there is no need to touch them. But in cells 4-6 there may be manually activated consumables. For example, I install a fire extinguisher in the first cell, which corresponds to key 4 on the keyboard. Instead of key 4, I long ago assigned the side button on the mouse in the game settings. This allows you to quickly put out a fire in the event of a fire, rather than searching for the right button on the keyboard while the ammunition explodes. In addition, if there is an increased risk of fire, for example, an AMX 1390 came aft of you and is glad that it got to the soft one, then it won’t hurt to click at that time side mouse button for prevention! Works like an automatic fire extinguisher, but costs 7 times less

In the next article about mods, I will tell you how to assign several keys to one action and shoot more accurately! And, if you mess up the control settings, there is a “Default” button there

Go to the “Sight” tab.

Well, there’s nothing to say at all. You can adjust the size and shape of the sight, which I once tried. But the default settings are close to optimal, except perhaps make the size larger. Yes, and somewhere there is a sight with an indication selected. If you point it at the enemy's VLD (upper frontal part), it turns red, if you point it at the NLD (you can guess it yourself), it turns green. In general, it makes it clear whether your projectile can penetrate armor in this place. Red - no, green - yes.

But don’t bother with this, since in the article about mods we will install a more convenient sight with the correct indication that takes into account the angle of entry of the projectile!

Well, I just have to say that on this tab there are two more pads (pun intended) for setting up a separate arcade (3rd person) and sniper sight (in optics).

Here you can customize various icons above the tanks.

I somehow made the optimal settings for myself and they were saved, since now most of the settings (except for graphics and sound, in my opinion) are stored on the server and are pulled up from it again, even if the game is completely reinstalled.

There are also pads for setting up markers for allies, enemies and destroyed vehicles. For allies, they are the same there, but for destroyed ones, only the model of the vehicle for reference, the rest is disabled so as not to interfere with the screen.

I’m telling you everything honestly, but I still hope that you will install the right mods and you won’t have to configure anything manually.

8. Removing unnecessary files

And finally, some more useful information. You can significantly reduce the amount of disk space a game takes up by deleting all files from the Updates folder.

This folder contains temporary files that are downloaded during game updates. The developers themselves confirmed that these files are absolutely unnecessary and can be safely deleted. This is especially true for SSD drives that have a small capacity. For example, this folder took up 13.4 GB for me! For which she was sentenced to destruction without the right of restoration

9. Conclusion

To summarize, I want to say the following. If you want to win, forget about the special effects and set up the game well! After all, defeats do not bring any pleasure, but only irritate and leave a feeling of dissatisfaction!

A graphics tablet makes working with computer graphics faster and easier. But in order to achieve maximum performance, a tablet, like any complex equipment, requires careful configuration and our article will help you figure out how to set up a graphics tablet and pen yourself. It will be very problematic for a person who is not thoroughly familiar with Photoshop and installing the necessary drivers to figure everything out on their own. So let’s figure out where to start and look at each stage of setting up the device. Let's take a Wacom graphics tablet as an example.

Installing the necessary software

The first thing you need to start with is connecting the device to the computer using the cable from the box. It should be noted that without drivers (on Windwos 10 it happens automatically), the tablet will not work correctly or will not work at all. Regardless of your computer’s OS (Windows, mac OS), drivers are installed automatically after launching the corresponding program. You can install it using the disk that was in the box with the tablet (if it was not there, go to the next paragraph). Insert the disc, run the software update program. Follow the simple instructions and after that the device will be ready for use.
Another way to install or update drivers for a gadget is to download them from the website of the graphics tablet manufacturer. There are two reasons for this:

  • the first is the absence of a disk drive on a computer or laptop
  • the second reason is that the manufacturer’s website has the latest drivers

New versions of the software may fix errors, expand functionality, improve or add localization. Drivers for Wacom devices can be found on their official website by clicking on the link.

Setting up the graphics tablet itself

After installing and updating the software, you need to properly configure the graphics tablet for it to work correctly. We will select the pen sensitivity in SAI or PS that suits your pen pressure. Launch a suitable program and open the tablet control panel (in our case, “Wacom Tablet”). Create a new drawing and select as a tool the most common brush with a large size (diameter about 50 in Photoshop is suitable). Draw a couple of lines using the pen and pressing it with different amounts of pressure. Continue drawing lines, while simultaneously changing the “Sensitivity” parameter in the tablet settings (Wacom Tablet), until you feel as comfortable and comfortable as possible to adjust the thickness of the brush by pressing the stylus. On some more expensive models, it is possible to save similar settings for several programs separately (for example, there is one setting for SAI, and another for Photoshop). Sometimes this can be extremely useful when working with a graphics tablet.

Selecting and customizing brushes

Let's now set up the brushes you'll use in Photoshop. Press F5 or click on the Brushes button with the mouse and select Brush Tip Shape.

  1. Let's start with the shape of the brush. We create an elongated or inclined brush by changing the values of the Angle and Roundness parameters or simply visually adjusting the shape of the brush in the picture on the right.
  2. The second item we will configure is Spacing. It affects the “smoothness” of the brush. All changes made are displayed in the figure below.
  3. The third point is Shape Dynamics. The following parameters can be adjusted here: Pen Pressure (the pressure on the pen), Pen Tilt (the angle of inclination of the tool), Stylus Wheel (adjusting the wheel on some pens), Rotation (rotation angle). It is very convenient to change the size of the brush by simply pressing the pen with different pressure, especially if you often have to change the diameter of the tool you are using. It is worth noting that the Pen Tilt option is mainly supported only on expensive models. Using the wheel you can quickly adjust the size and rotation of the tool used.
  4. And finally, the fourth point – Other Dynamics. Here you can configure the dependence of the transparency of the brush on the force of pressure on the pen.

Setting up additional keys

Some tablets have additional physical keys. On Wacom tablets they are called ExpressKeys. They are located on the sides of the work area and, as their name suggests, they are designed to make it more convenient and quick to control the program in which you are working. Each key can be assigned its own button. The default keys are usually the most popular, but you can customize everything if you wish. Note that initially both key blocks repeat their functions. Therefore, in the device settings, you can change the specified values of the shortcut keys. Here you can edit the values of each key individually, and in some tablets you can also save different settings for different programs (different, for example, for Sai and Photoshop).
