Which is better: Samsung or HTC? Which is better Samsung or HTC

Samsung Galaxy S8+ and HTC U11 Plus are excellent smartphones with TOP hardware and cameras. They collect positive customer feedback. But which one is better - you can determine this by comparing the main characteristics, test results and example photos. This is what we will do - in comparison, they accept models with 128 GB of memory.

Characteristics of smartphones

To make it easier to understand the parameters, let’s write them down in a table.

Galaxy S8+
Market price 60,000 rubles 45,000 rubles
Screen 6.2 inches, AMOLED, 2960×1440 Super LCD 5 (marketing name for IPS matrix), 5.5 inches, 2560x1440
Processor and graphics Exynos 8895, Mali-G71 MP20 Snapdragon 835, Adreno 540
RAM 6 GB 6 GB
Rear camera 12 MP, F/1.7, optical stabilization. Shooting 4K at 30 fps. 12 MP, F/1.7, optical stabilization, 4K shooting
Battery 3500 mAh 3930 mAh
Peculiarities IP68 waterproof (can work underwater up to 1 meter), iris scanner, face scanner Waterproof IP67 (withstands short-term immersion in water), Edge Sensor housing compression sensor

The characteristics of the phones are different; the Galaxy S8+ model is 15,000 rubles more expensive. Separately, it is worth mentioning the central processor in the Samsung flagship. It can use one of two mobile chips: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895. The Russian market mainly sells phones with the “native chip” Exynos 8895, so we will consider it in comparison.

Screen

The new flagship from HTC has a 5.5-inch display with huge frames not only on the top and bottom, but also on the sides. This is strange, because almost all manufacturers are trying to produce so-called frameless phones, but HTC went a different route.

The company has implemented a QHD display (1440×2560) with a pixel density of 534 per inch. Its characteristics are impressive: brightness of more than 500 cd/m2 in “Auto” mode; contrast – 1100:1 – 1400:1. With such indicators, even in bright sun the picture is clearly readable.

The screen in the new flagship is good - its colors are rich and bright, very close to the colors on the AMOLED matrix.

The Samsung Galaxy S8+ uses an Infinity display with small frames at the top and bottom and QHD resolution (2960x1440). The screen is technologically advanced - it arranges the picture on the screen in accordance with external conditions. It implements not just a lighting indicator, but RGB colors. Brightness (up to 1000 nits in automatic mode), contrast, color reproduction - all this is at its best. There is even an image enhancement function - transforming a non-HDR picture into HDR content; there is a night mode with a blue color filter, which improves the owner’s sleep. The renowned Always On Display technology now consumes much less energy.

Experts from Display Mate came to the conclusion that the Samsung S8 and S8+ use the best displays at the time the phones were released (there is already a Galaxy Note 8). Taking into account all this information, we conclude: the screen is better in the Galaxy S8+, although it is not bad in the HTC U11 Plus.

Processors

The flagships use TOP processors with a 10nm process technology - these are Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895. We have already compared these chips when we tried to determine who is cooler: LG V30+ or Samsung Galaxy S8 - you will find the details.

Here is a table comparing parameters:

Snapdragon 835 (LG V30+) Exynos 8895 (Samsung S8)
Technical process 10nm 10nm
Cores Kryo 280. 4×2.45 GHz, 4×1.9 GHz 4xCortex A53, 4xM2 (up to 3 GHz)
Graphic arts Adreno 540, 710 MHz Mali-G71 MP20
LTE modem Cat.16 (up to 1 Gbit/s) Cat.16 (up to 1 Gbit/s)
RAM support LPDDR4X 1866 MHz LPDDR4x 1866 MHz

The only major difference between the chips is the graphics processors. In this regard, the Mali-G71 GPU used in the Samsung S8+ is better, because allows you to record video in 4K resolution at 60 FPS.

Now let's compare the performance of phones based on these processors.

HTC U11 Plus on Snapdragon 835 scored 177,000 points in the Antutu benchmark - this is an excellent result.

The Samsung Galaxy S8+ with Exynos 8895 processor is slightly behind with 174,000 points.

We would like to add that there is no need for such performance, since the processor will perform any tasks, including the most “heavy” games, without problems. All their power comes down to encoding and playing 4K content, and they are up to the task. There is no winner in this pairing: Snapdragon shows better performance, but the Exynos 8895 allows you to record 4K content at 60 FPS.

Cameras

If we get ahead of ourselves, the cameras in the flagships are approximately equal. The only difference is that Samsung artificially adds contrast to the image, which makes the picture seem more joyful. At the same time, Samsung renders a less accurate white color, and light sources can be completely whitened. But this doesn’t change the essence - Samsung uses a cool Sony IMX333 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, which allows it to receive a lot of light. A camera with a wide dynamic range, a large number of settings, good performance in the dark - even in poor light, images are obtained without noise.

Examples of photos on Samsung Galaxy S8+

All photos below are clickable and open in full resolution.

As you can see from the last photo, the camera in the Galaxy S8+ is excellent - it pulls out the last of the light and displays the blue sky even in pitch darkness. There is very little noise - this is a big plus.

HTC U11 Plus will also get a good camera - specialists from DxOMark gave it 90 points, which is a high result. This is what the camera phone rating looks like at the beginning of 2018.

The main module in the HTC U11 Plus has a resolution of 12 megapixels (as in Samsung), f/1.7 aperture, HTC UltraPixel 3 technologies, optical stabilization and focusing. If we summarize and go straight to the main thing, it’s worth highlighting that the camera of this phone shows good results only in sunlight or very bright artificial light: perfect color rendition, no noise, wide dynamic range, cool Bokeh effect. But as soon as it gets dark outside or the lights are turned off in the room, noise immediately appears.

Examples of photos on HTC U11 Plus

All images are clickable - they open when clicked.

Obviously, in light, the images on the HTC flagship will turn out good. But let's compare the photos on two phones.

Left – Samsung S8+, right – HTC U11 Plus

The winner of this comparison is the Korean Samsung S8+, which takes the best shots in low light and even in the dark. The flagship from HTC is losing ground and is capable of great shots only in ideal lighting.

Autonomy

The Galaxy S8+ battery capacity is higher - 3500 mAh, but it has a larger display and higher maximum screen brightness (although AMOLED screens have low power consumption). Both models use 10nm processors that do not consume a lot of energy and support fast charging technology.

Samsung S8+ is capable of playing video at maximum brightness for 18 hours, and on average, depending on the settings, it works for 1-2 days. There is no breakthrough - the indicators are standard.

HTC U11 Plus is equipped with a 3930 mAh battery. Officially, it works 24.5 hours during a call in 3G/4G networks, and is in standby mode for 14 days. Practice shows that when working on Wi-Fi, short-term video and photography, and an hour of talking, the phone lasts one daylight hours - from morning to night, and under high load it “lives” from morning to evening. Also, the phone discharges quickly when the network is weak. Most owners charge their smartphone every evening. The situation is slightly saved by QuickCharge 4.0 fast charging (read what it is).

Samsung S8+ is better in terms of autonomy - there can be no two opinions.

Disadvantages of phones

Based on customer reviews, we will highlight the disadvantages of smartphones that are often mentioned.

Minuses
Samsung S8+
  • The screen and back panel are scratched.
  • There are complaints about the display burning out after 1.5 months. This is especially noticeable on a white background.
  • The slippery and easily soiled case tends to fall out of your hands, leaving fingerprints.
  • The face scanner works poorly and is generally useless at night.
  • The sound in the vaunted AKG headphones is weak.
  • Inconvenient music player.
  • The shell is 90% copied from HTC One.
  • Large frames around the display.
  • The slippery body tends to fall out of your hands. If you have poor concentration and fine motor skills, then it is better to buy a case. If you place it on a slightly inclined surface, it may slide down.
  • Some built-in applications will not be removed.

That's all - the choice is yours.

Comparing the HTC U Ultra and Samsung S7 Edge smartphones is perplexing, but we will take a closer look at the details and identify the best smartphone in this sparring!

Comparing the HTC U Ultra and Samsung S7 Edge smartphones is puzzling because on paper the phones have more similarities than differences. One of the best flagships of 2016 is in some places very similar to the new product from HTC, but the difference is in the details, and it is in these details that we must look for the answer to the question, which phone is better - Samsung S7 Edge or HTC U Ultra?

Comparison of Samsung S7 Edge and HTC U Ultra: size, weight, body material

Let's start comparing the Samsung S7 Edge and HTC U Ultra smartphones with the exterior. In terms of dimensions, the S7 Edge takes the lead (or the outsider, depending on your preferences) - it is 11 mm shorter and 7 mm narrower than its competitor. The difference in the thickness of the case - 0.3 mm - should be considered insignificant.

In terms of weight, the clear leader at this stage is the HTC U Ultra - it is 13 grams heavier than the Samsung smartphone, but this does not add points to it, since appearance is important to us, and weight is a minor matter.

In terms of the number of body colors, Samsung outperforms its competitor, offering 4 options versus 3 for HTC U Ultra. The case materials for smartphones are the same – glass and steel.

Comparison of Samsung S7 Edge and HTC U Ultra screens

Let's start comparing the Samsung S7 Edge and HTC U Ultra smartphones by screen characteristics by comparing resolution and pixel density. At the beginning of the second round, Samsung S7 Edge outperforms its opponent - with the same resolution of 2560x1440, Samsung has a higher pixel density - 534 ppi versus 513 ppi.

Halfway through the second round, the HTC U Ultra is catching up with the S7 Edge due to its larger screen area. The U Ultra display diagonal is 5.7 inches versus 5.5 inches for the S7 Edge. HTC's display area is up to 7% larger.

By the end of the second round, we see parity: the additional display of the HTC U Ultra (yes, by the way, the U Ultra has a second display) is balanced by the 2.5D matrix of the Samsung S7 Edge. HTC's main Super-LCD 5 display is virtually identical to Samsung's Super AMOLED screen. As a result, the second round was a draw.

Comparison of front and main cameras

At this stage we see a clear dominance of HTC, albeit only on paper. It has two cameras - 16 and 12 megapixels - with an f/1.8 aperture. The competitor is equipped with 12 and 5 megapixel cameras with an f/1.7 aperture. It’s hard to say which is cooler – Samsung or HTC U Ultra... We’ll have to wait for tests of the real camera of the as yet non-existent U Ultra. HTC has a serious rival, because according to experts, the Samsung S7 Edge has one of the.

Comparison of Samsung S7 Edge and HTC U Ultra smartphones by hardware

In terms of performance, the HTC U Ultra is likely to be on par with the S7 Edge. Almost identical processors - Snapdragon 821 and Snapdragon 820, equal amount of RAM - 4 GB for each smartphone, do not allow us to identify a winner.

With batteries, we see a slightly different situation - the HTC U Ultra has a 3000 mAh battery, and inside the S7 Edge there is a 3600 mAh drive. Additionally, the U Ultra model comes with 64GB of internal storage, while the S7 Edge can go up to 128GB of internal storage. Therefore, the Samsung S7 Edge is leading this round with a minimal advantage.

Interface and more

At the final stage the following picture is observed:

  • The S7 Edge has a 3.5mm jack, which the HTC U Ultra doesn't have
  • Both HTC and Samsung have memory card slots.
  • The S7 Edge case is protected according to the IP68 standard. HTC U Ultra does not have such protection.
  • The cost of the S7 Edge at the start of sales was $770. The U Ultra is slightly cheaper at $749.

We'll give victory at the fifth stage to the Samsung S7 Edge for its IP68 protection and the good old headphone jack.

What's cooler - Samsung or HTC U Ultra?

Every smartphone has its strengths, but don’t forget that it was released in March 2016 and was a top-end smartphone with top-end characteristics. We are well aware of the real capabilities of this phone, and these capabilities are impressive. It’s difficult to say anything definite about HTC U Ultra, so we award the victory, albeit with a minimal advantage, to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge!

And one more thing... the release date of HTC U Ultra is March 2017. In the market, it will have to compete with devices built on the basis of super-powerful 6-8 GB of RAM and 32 MP cameras. Considering that even with the flagships of 2016 it is difficult for it to compete, in a sparring match with the top smartphones of 2017, U Ultra will have no chance of winning!

Samsung introduced its next new Galaxy S IV in March, and at the end of April it already went on sale. Although this model isn't full of surprises, the S4 is still packed to the brim with innovations from Google and Samsung.

This is definitely a serious flagship Android phone. But have Samsung developers done everything to once again bypass HTC? We decided to compare the Galaxy S4 with the HTC One and find out which model is better.

If you look at the specifications of both devices, you can easily see that they are similar in many respects. Both have powerful quad-core processors and crisp 1080p displays, but there are a few notable differences.

Screen

The SGS4 has a larger five-inch screen, larger than the HTC One's 4.7-inch display, meaning the latter has a higher pixel density per inch.

Samsung has decided to continue the tradition of using Super AMOLED technology, which is praised for its incredibly high contrast, but at the same time it is noted for its not entirely accurate color reproduction and the sub-pixel PenTile rendering engine, which causes some “stippling” of text. HTC has taken the path of using the equally successful Super LCD (IPS) technology, which, although it does not have the contrast of AMOLED, offers more accurate color reproduction. With such high resolutions on both models, it's hard to notice a significant difference in clarity and sharpness.

CPU

HTC uses a quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. Its competitor is equipped with Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor, which includes four high-performance Cortex-A15 cores with a frequency of 1.6 GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A7 cores with a clock speed of 1. 2 gigahertz. The Galaxy S4 will arrive in some markets in a different version: its “heart” will be the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 with a clock frequency of 1.9 gigahertz and an Adreno 320 graphics chip.

In tests, the Galaxy S4 is slightly (no more than 10%) ahead of the One. However, both devices cope with any tasks with ease and at high speed.

Assembly and design

The most significant and significant difference between the two models under consideration is the quality of their assembly. Samsung has opted for the same plastic body design that was criticized in its last year and earlier products as cheap and somewhat ill-conceived. HTC has a clear advantage here thanks to its aluminum unibody design.

Samsung's device retains the microSD card slot and removable battery that made the S III a hit last year. The S4 is thinner and lighter - thanks to the same plastic body.

Software stuffing

More and more Android phone manufacturers are trying to differentiate themselves by using unique software and customizations. Samsung's flagship is equipped with the TouchWiz software system, while HTC uses . While none of these user interfaces are particularly popular among Android devotees, they do have several important features.

Samsung offers email previews as well as a Dual Camera feature that lets you take photos and videos at the same time, while HTC introduced its content aggregator, BlinkFeed. Both devices also offer universal remote control with their own apps that let you use your phone as a TV remote.

Camera

The last, but not least, point of difference between the models is the cameras.

Samsung has again decided to take the path of increasing megapixels, equipping its new model with a 13-megapixel camera. But, as you already know, it’s the camera that HTC is relying on in its flagship. Technically, the camera resolution is only 4 megapixels, but the size of these pixels is much larger, which means the quality of low-light images is better. Examples of photographs obtained for self-comparison are in the TechnoBuffalo article.

We made a comparison of user interfaces for working with the camera in.

conclusions

Both models are worthy of being called flagships, so the final choice will be yours: Samsung or HTC. Let's list the One's strengths: camera (modern people often have to shoot in the dark), loud and high-quality stereo speakers, premium aluminum body.

To the question Which phone is better to buy, Samsung Galaxy S4, or HTC One? given by the author Vitaly Dolgert the best answer is Of course, Samsung Galaxy S4!

Answer from Navel[newbie]
First option

Answer from Monster beats 2000[guru]
Speaking of displays, both devices are impressive.
On the one hand we see the Galaxy S4's expanded 4.99" Super AMOLED display with its high contrast and rich colors, and on the other we see the HTC One's Super LCD 3 display, which is more natural and also quite bright.
HTC One also makes display information more visible when using your smartphone in bright daylight thanks to its high brightness. Viewing angles are very good on both devices, but we prefer the HTC One over the two devices as its display maintains normal color tone and colors, while the Galaxy S4's display is slightly larger and color quality deteriorates a bit as soon as we start tilting the smartphones .
The display in the Galaxy S4 is 2 units or 0.2 inches larger than the HTC One, but the difference is not that noticeable. Tasks such as watching videos perform well on both phones thanks to the juicy picture.
Sometimes with such comparisons it becomes clear which device is better. But let's admit that the audience, like the market, is very diverse. One person may like this device, but another may like something else. It all depends on what a particular person expects from the device.
Advantages of Samsung Galaxy S4
Larger screen, ability to work with gloves, gesture control (without touching the screen)
Higher camera resolution - 13MP vs 4MP
Newer version of Android - 4.2.2 vs 4.1.2
Higher chipset clock speed
Expandable memory
Removable battery with higher capacity
Additional sensors (barometer, thermometer, humidity sensor)
Exclusive software features
Smaller, thinner, lighter
Benefits of HTC One
More solid appearance, one-piece aluminum body
Optical image stabilization, 2 micron pixel sensor
HTC Zoe, BlinkFeed
Front stereo speakers, Beats Audio
FM Radio
Unfortunately for HTC, all marketing aspects and market trends will eventually lead everyone in the direction of Samsung. Most likely, sales of the Galaxy S IV will be much larger than sales of the One, as was the case with the Galaxy S III. Simply because Samsung knows how to sell its products, leaving behind all these marketing issues, “charging” its devices to the maximum.
To HTC's credit, we can say that the company was still able to release a completely new product to the market. It's stylish, it's beautiful, it's aluminum and it uses new technology. This product will undoubtedly have its buyer.

Answer from Windows must die[expert]
htc one is much better)) there were comparisons of iPhone 5 and htc beat thc and the same iPhone and Samsung beat iPhone)) and in many characteristics htc is better, for example, in Samsung they say that it has 8 cores but that it still lags after a long time of operation and quickly discharges
the same 8 cores in games, for example, only 4 work, and the rest 4 are for working in the menu; a large and bright screen is of course a plus) but it’s too big) in my opinion, htc made the ideal screen size 4.7 no more no less in the most ra )

If in the world arena of gadgets Samsung's main competitor is Apple, then even in the world of Android Samsung has many competitors, and one of them is HTC. Which of these manufacturers is better? Let's analyze and look for a leader among these two manufacturers.

Greetings to all. In this article, I again decided to go into a comparative analysis, a rather interesting thing for me and my readers. As you remember, last time I compared Apple iPhone 6 or Samsung Galaxy S5, where Apple and Samsung again fought.

Today we will find out which is better: Samsung or HTC, the post will consist of two parts:

Samsung or HTC

Company stories

Samsung is a South Korean company founded in 1938. Many of us have known the Samsung company for a very long time, from ancient times, when there were not so many manufacturers as there are now, we bought household appliances from this company: TV, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner, etc. Since then, it has proven itself very well. Samsung is known to many as a manufacturer of laptops and other computer equipment.

Samsung entered the mobile industry gradually and very carefully, offering quite interesting phone models as opposed to market leaders Nokia, Sony-Ericsson and Siemens. To be honest, I would never have thought that Samsung would become the market leader, while such a mastodon as Nokia would barely make ends meet. However, today Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of smartphones and tablets.

HTC is a Chinese-Taiwanese company founded in 1997. Initially, the company specialized in the production of custom phones, that is, they supplied their products to various companies that were not involved in the production of mobile devices, to mobile operators Orange, O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, which sold devices under their own brands.

Since 2006, the company has opened its own voyage in the world of mobile devices and begins producing phones under its own brand, and quite popular ones at that. Since 2010, HTC has entered into a partnership with Google and already in 2011 surpassed Nokia in terms of capital. Today, HTC is one of the popular brands that has conquered its niche among mobile gadgets.

Samsung is a company with many years of experience, while HTC is a newcomer in comparison.

In the gadget industry

Samsung phones

Samsung's history in the world of mobile phones begins back in 1988, when the SH-100 model was released. After which the South Korean manufacturer periodically released evolutionary new products. In the era of the beginning of the popularity and mass production of mobile phones, Samsung released the revolutionary SPH-A500 clamshell in 2003, and in 2005 the first camera phone MM-A800. In 2008, the company debuted a phone equipped with a touchscreen – the Samsung T589. A year later, the first smartphone based on Android was released - Samsung I7500, which is the first model of the Galaxy line. After this, the company's success began in the field of smartphones and tablets based on Android.

HTC phones

When HTC decided to come out of the shadows, one of the first popular models was the HTC MTeoR, which was the first 3G smartphone running on the Windows Mobile platform. Together with Google HTC in 2010 they created the first Nexus One, an Android-based communicator. Starting with the first HTC Desire on Android, released in 2010, the company rapidly began to develop and become popular in the world.

HTC's rapid growth has caught up with the experienced Samsung in a matter of months.

Comparison of models

In order to study in more detail and determine the leader among these two manufacturers, I decided to compare their flagships. To be honest, choosing a flagship from Samsung was quite difficult, since there were 3 of the premium models announced this year: Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Alpha. But after analyzing the presentations and various “geeky” resources dedicated to gadgets, the answer was unequivocal - this is the Samsung Galaxy S5. The two main flagships of 2014: Galaxy S5 vs HTC One M8 will fight, defending the honor of their manufacturers!

Appearance

The designs of the two devices are completely different. To say that one is better and the other worse is extremely wrong: for some, the M8 is more stylish, more beautiful and “richer,” and for others, the S5.

Having looked at a large number of reviews regarding the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8, as well as reviews of these two models separately, everywhere they focus maximum attention on the metal body of the HTC One M8, which supposedly is metal: it feels better, it looks more beautiful and richer, it is more reliable . But I have one question: what is the point of a metal case, when most people immediately after buying a smartphone buy a plastic or other material case!? The fact that a metal case is more reliable than a plastic case when a phone falls is obvious that no one is insured against falling, while few people choose the material of a smartphone, anticipating its future falls; only those who have a smartphone “experienced paratrooper” do this.

Finally, I would like to note that the HTC One M8 actually fits very well in the hand.

Technical comparisons

Let's consider the technical parameters of both models:

  • Processor: S5 has 8 cores (x4 - 1.9 GHz and x4 - 1.3 GHz) M8 includes 4 cores of 2.3 GHz;
  • RAM: both devices have 2 GB;
  • Screen: S5 – 5.1 inches screen resolution 1920×1080, M8 – 5 inches 1920×1080;
  • Physical memory: both representatives have models with the same amounts of physical memory of 16 GB, and support memory cards up to 128 GB;
  • Camera: S5 has a main one - 16 MP, M8 has 4 MP, as for the front one, S5 has 2 MP, M8 has 5 MP;
  • Communication: both devices have GSM, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, LTE and Wi-Fi;
  • Operating system: OS Android 4.4.2;
  • Dimensions and weight: S5 data - 142x73x8.1 mm, 145 g, M8 data - 146x71x9.4 mm, 160 g;
  • Battery: S5 – 2800 mAh, S5 – 2600 mAh;

In principle, the characteristics of the smartphones are identical, with the exception of some nuances, which I will discuss below.

As for the price, the HTC One M8 16GB costs 28,990 rubles, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F 16GB costs 24,990 rubles, the difference of 4 thousand rubles is noticeable.

I think that price for many has already become the answer to the question of what is better to buy.

Features of the models

It should be noted that the S5 has excellent gadgets, such as: a fingerprint sensor, a heart rate center, water resistance and an infrared port (for controlling devices), etc., while the M8 only has a gyroscope, proximity sensor and compass, which the S5 also has.

I was very surprised by the camera on the M8, only 4 MP, which was relevant in 2010, but even then I already had a device with an 8 MP camera. Many people talk about double pixels and other camera gadgets in the HTC model in question, but this is all nonsense, indicators, and most importantly, comparison of photos from both devices is the best indicator. The Galaxy S5 has, in my opinion, the best camera of any smartphone today.

However, the HTC model has excellent stereo speakers, with high-quality stereo sound, while the sound of the Galaxy S5, to put it mildly, is not very pleasing. When with sound in headphones everything is completely different.

I was saddened by the lack of buttons on the screen of the M8, which means that the usable space has decreased; why the buttons were removed is unclear, but it’s clearly in vain and stupid. The S5 is doing great, with three buttons at the bottom of the screen.

The M8 has a built-in battery, while the S5 does not. Thanks to this, you can have 2 batteries, one to carry with you as a spare (but not recommended). Also, if the Samsung battery fails, you can replace it yourself when you need to take the M8 to a service center. Since we are already talking about SCs, Samsung has them in every major city, while HTC only has them in select ones.

The devices are controlled by one system - Android 4.4.2, only the S5 has the proprietary TouchWiz interface installed on top. Both devices work stably, as for ease of control, in some aspects it differs between smartphones, which is not an acquired taste.

Well, the last thing is heating. Samsung Galaxy S5 heats up to 37 degrees, while HTC One M8 heats up to 44 degrees. In this case, holding the M8 is 2 times less pleasant, since it heats up more, and even more so, being in a metal case. But such maximum temperatures are reached after more than an hour of active use of the device, for example, playing Asphalt 8 racing.

Summarizing everything analyzed above, I would give the palm to Samsung, both for its popularity, quality of devices and progressiveness, and for the victory of the flagship model in the battle.
