Acronis hard drive recovery sequence. Rescue key F11 and Acronis True Image recovery environment when loading Windows. Creating bootable media with Acronis Universal Restore

Hello, dear readers of the blog site :) This article will be a logical continuation of my previous one - about backing up the entire operating system (using Windows as an example) along with programs and files, using a very useful program - Acronis True Image

Now I will tell you how you can easily restore your system from a previously created backup and return it to the state when you created this backup. Also in this article I will explain how to restore individual files and folders from the corresponding backup.

Restoration may be necessary if the system suddenly begins to work unstably, slows down significantly for reasons unknown to you, some other problems appear with its loading, and so on. In this case, you can simply restore it from the backup you created earlier. The process is simple and after recovery you will receive your system ready for use: all programs will be installed on it, all the files you worked with will be there, everything is configured as it was before creating the copy.

The latest versions of Acronis True Image allow you to restore your system from an archive even to other computers with different hardware. This opportunity can be very necessary.

So, let's take a step-by-step look at what needs to be done to restore the system from a backup.

Restoring the system along with previously installed programs and files using Acronis True Image

First of all, we need to have on hand the media (for example: an external HDD, flash drive) or remote online storage where our archive with a backup copy of the entire system was saved. If you are reading this article first and still don’t know how to create a backup copy at all, then I recommend reading the previous article where I talked about this by clicking on the link above.

The process of restoring their archive system is very simple. Let's look at it:

Launch the installed Acronis True Image program from a shortcut on the desktop or from the Start menu.

When Acronis starts, go straight to the “Backup and Restore” tab. And on this tab, click the “Restore” button at the top:

A small window will open showing a list of previously created backups.

But even those copies that are stored on removable media (flash drives, external HDDs) will still be displayed in the list, but if you try to recover from them without connecting the required media to the computer, you will receive an error. In my example from the previous article, I made a backup copy onto a flash drive and at the moment did not connect it to the computer. Therefore, when you click the “Restore” button, the following message will appear:

In this case, you need to connect to the computer the removable media on which the backup archive is stored and click the “Browse” button, then select the location where the required backup copy is stored:

You could find a backup copy by immediately clicking the “Search for backup…” button after going to the “Restore” section:

In this case, you would be taken to the same Explorer window, where you can find the required backup copy on your computer, external storage device, or on the network.

When the archive with the required backup copy is selected, click the “Add list of backup copies” button located at the bottom of the window.

If the archive was protected with a password, a window will immediately appear where you must enter this password:

Now the main window for restoring the system from the archive will appear. In the window, you need to select the partitions from those that we archived - those that you want to restore. If you want to restore exactly everything that you previously backed up along with the system, then simply select all the partitions from the list by checking them.

If, in addition to the system partitions, you also backed up separate partitions with some of your data and want to restore only the system without these partitions with data, then simply check the boxes only on the system partitions (For Windows 7, this is usually Drive “C:” and the partition "Reserved by the system").

In this case, the system, along with its settings and programs, will be completely restored, but partitions with data that you have not marked will not be restored.

In addition to selecting partitions to recover, you can also select the location to which they will be restored. For example, you can make sure that the partition with the system from the archive is restored to another location or to another disk. To do this, click on the arrow to the right of the partition name and a list of available locations or disks where you can restore the partition will open:

As you can see from my example (image above), I only have one location available where I can restore the selected partition. 2 more places are marked in red and this means that restoration there is impossible. Typically, this is due to insufficient space to recover more volume.

Also, for each of the restored partitions with the system or data, it is possible to change their additional properties. I advise beginners not to delve into this and not even go into these properties, because by default Acronis performs recovery as efficiently as possible without changes to disk structures.

More experienced users can go to the additional properties section by clicking on the link at the bottom of the restored “Partition Properties” section:

  1. The last step before restoring a partition is to specify, if necessary, additional parameters for the recovery stage itself. Let's go over them.

In the window we will see tabs already familiar from the stage of creating a backup copy: “Advanced”, “Performance”, “Notifications”. Let's look at the settings on each tab.

Now we have everything set up for recovery and we can start this process by clicking the “Restore Now” button at the bottom of the window:

Since the recovery occurs directly from Windows, in my experience, Acronis always requires a system reboot at the very beginning of the recovery. If you checked the “If necessary, automatically restart the computer during recovery” checkbox in the settings above, then the computer will restart itself without prompting.

If this option was not enabled, you will receive this warning:

And to continue the reboot, you need to confirm this yourself by clicking the “Restart” button.

You can activate automatic shutdown of the computer immediately after the system recovery process is completed by checking the appropriate box in the window (see image above).

After the restore is complete, you will be able to boot your system with all the programs and all the files saved at the time you created the backup. You no longer have to install Windows from scratch, install all the programs and make settings. Now you can simply download your ready-to-use system. Comfortable? :) I think that few people will say “No” for some reason :)

The most important thing is that there is nothing particularly complicated... The manual is large only because it is detailed, and the steps themselves are very simple.

Let us now consider the process of restoring individual files/folders from the corresponding backup.

Restoring individual files/folders from the corresponding backup

Do not forget that different backup copies are used to restore partitions and individual files/folders. I talked about the process of creating each of them in my previous article.

To restore individual files, you need the appropriate type of backup copy.

So, let's assume that we have lost some important documents and need to restore them. We have a backup copy.

We begin the recovery process. It’s still much simpler than partition recovery, so it shouldn’t leave any questions at all.

Well, we have looked at all the possibilities of restoring from backups, namely, from entire partitions with the system and data and individual files/folders.

All this just seems complicated, you just need to go through these steps once and everything will become clear :)

This is where I end this article, and in the next one I will talk about another important function - creating a boot disk with Acronis and the ability to restore the system, even if the system itself does not boot for any reason. In this case, since the system has “broken,” you will no longer be able to launch the Acronis program from it. For such purposes, you need a recovery disk with Acronis True Image, from which you can boot and restore everything.

I will be waiting for your questions in the comments and will be happy to answer everyone! :) Bye;)

Sometimes there are cases when you need to quickly restore Windows with programs and drivers. Most laptop manufacturers include hidden partitions and/or recovery disks in their products. With their help, you can restore the system to the state it was at the time of purchase. Read more about this in this article.

Despite many positive aspects, pre-installed Windows recovery systems have a number of disadvantages:

They are very picky. For them to work, they often require the original MBR, a specific partition structure, and the hidden partitions themselves; Not only Windows itself with drivers is restored, but also a large number of unnecessary programs, which then have to be removed; Hidden partitions take up quite a lot of space; if you delete them according to these instructions, you will need to restore them before restoring the system.

The user may encounter a number of inconveniences and problems. Among them we can highlight the need to restore hidden partitions along with the MBR, and the need to remove many unnecessary programs that came with the laptop, and install programs and updates, and configure the system itself, and so on.

How to solve these problems? How can you quickly and without unnecessary headaches get an already configured system, with installed updates and the latest drivers, with all the necessary programs and documents?

Allows you to solve these problems very conveniently and easily. First, we use it to pack all the files from the Windows partition, and then, if necessary, restore the system from the archive (image). As a result, we get everything as it was at the time of packaging. Fast and easy. Let's take a closer look at working with this utility.

This utility is used to create backups and restore information, you can download it from us using the link provided: Acronis True Image 2017 20.0.5554

To organize a Windows recovery system on a laptop with programs and drivers, you must:

1. Installing and configuring Windows

Installing Windows has already been described in detail on this resource Installing Windows XP, Installing Windows Vista, Installing Windows 7, Installing Windows 8/8.1, Installing Windows 10 so I won’t dwell on it. After installing Windows with drivers, we install and configure the necessary programs. In other words, we bring the system into the form it should have after restoration.

2. Creating an image of the system partition

At this stage, we will, roughly speaking, copy all the files from the Windows hard drive partition into one archive, which is called an image. This will help us.

Install and launch. In the top menu Operations select Archive:

Since we need to create an image of an entire partition, select My Computer:

Now we indicate the partition where you have Windows installed:

Since we are making a backup copy only once, we can safely disable scheduling and click Next

Important note: Acronis True Image allows you to perform archiving according to a specific schedule. It is possible to create both a full partition image and incremental or differential images.

Let's look at them in more detail.

A full image is essentially an archive with all the files.
An incremental image is an archive of changes since the last backup.
A differential image is an archive of changes since the creation of the full image.

To restore from a differential image, you need the differential image itself, as well as the full image.

To restore from incremental images, you need the full image and all incremental images. The size of a differential and incremental image is often much smaller than a full one. This is because they only contain changes to the full image compared to the situation at the time of archiving. If you schedule backups once a day, for example, then even in the event of a serious system failure, you can get a working system as it was yesterday in 10-15 minutes. A very convenient thing.

Since we are creating a system image for the first time, we select Complete:

Here you can see which files should not be written to the image. . Click Next:

On this tab you can configure the compression level of files in the image. On another tab you can specify the settings for splitting the image file:

Many other settings are also available there. When finished, click Next. On this page you can specify a comment for the image:

To start the image creation process, click on the Proceed button:

As a result, you will receive a message like this:

That's all. The system image has been created. Now let's move on to the next stage.

3. Creating a disk to run Acronis True Image

or areas on the hard drive to run this program without a disk

Naturally, to restore the system from a previously created image, you need the utility itself. How can you start it if Windows doesn’t boot at all?

There is a way to run this utility:

Download the finished utility image Acronis True Image 2016 19.0.6571 BootCD Acronis True Image 2016 19.0.6571 BootCD

and having previously recorded it on a DVD or USB drive and booted from it through the BIOS. Read below on how to create such a disk yourself.

Let's consider these methods separately.

3.1 Burning a disc with Acronis True Image utility

This is a simpler and more reliable method, but it has one very significant drawback: you need a disk and a drive. According to the law of meanness, when Windows crashes on a laptop, the necessary disks temporarily disappear somewhere :)

Let's look at how to burn such a disc. To do this, you need to start and in the Tools menu select the item Creating a boot disk:

If other Acronis products are installed on your computer or laptop, you can also burn them to disk. Select on the left and click Next

Select your drive with a blank CD/DVD disc:

Important note: this utility also allows you to create an ISO image for subsequent recording or organize downloading over the network.

To start recording, click Start

That's all. The disk is ready:

To run the utility you need to boot from it.

3.2 Creating a small partition on a hard drive with Acronis True Image

This method of launching the utility is more interesting. Unlike the previous method, a disk is not needed here. The program is recorded on a hidden partition of the hard drive and is loaded when you press the F11 key at boot. This method is perfect for owners of netbooks and portable laptops without a CD/DVD drive.

To create a copy of the program on the hard drive, you need to select the item in the Tools menu Boot Recovery:

We select from the list from which section to “bite off” the free space for a small hidden section for the program:

Specify the volume of the hidden partition and check the box next to Activate:

Important note: in addition to the program itself, backup copies can also be stored on this partition. You can make it more, and also assign a password for access. This section is hidden from most programs. Read more about it in the instructions for.

In our case, the password can be omitted:

This page displays all proposed changes. To apply them, click on the Proceed button:

The system may ask you to reboot:

In this case, all changes will be made when the system boots:

That's all. Now, when loading, a window like this will appear asking you to run

If you press F11, it will load. To remove the hidden section and return everything as it was, go to the Tools menu, select the item Acronis Secure Zone, click on the Delete button and indicate which section to attach the hidden section to.

4. Restoring Windows with programs and drivers from the image

Let's now consider how to restore the system from a previously created image.

First you need to boot from the disk or using F11 from a hidden partition. Select Acronis True Image Home from the menu:

After some time, the utility itself will launch. Click on the Restore button:

Click (if necessary) on Search for backup:

We indicate where the image itself is saved:

Select the image from the list below and click Restore:

Select an item Recover disks or partitions:

Select the hard drive partition in the image that you want to restore:

Important note: if you launched from a disk, then you should check the box next to MBR, if you launched via F11, then you should uncheck the box next to MBR.

Click on New storage:

Specify the partition to which you are going to restore the image and click Accept. Here it is very important to select the partition where the system was and from which you removed the image.

Click on Change default settings:

For the system partition we set the type Main and active:

Click on Change default settings:

In the fields Free space before and after the section set 0:

To start the recovery, click on Proceed:

We wait a bit:

That's all:

Restoring the system partition is complete. Now all that remains is to reboot the laptop and get a working system.

with you the general purpose and settings of the very useful Acronis True Image 2015 program, designed to backup your data and entire operating systems. We also created a backup copy of Windows 8.1 in Acronis and, for example, restored from this copy. Friends, without reading the first articleYou will not understand what will happen now, so I strongly recommend that you first read the first article and then move on to this one.

In this article we will make things more difficult for ourselves. Let's imagine a situation where our Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 does not boot due to some problems, then how can we restore the system from a backup using Acronis True Image 2015?

Most users under such circumstances and simply reinstalls the operating system, but you and I have the Acronis True Image 2015 program and we can very easily restore our operating system from a previously created backup using the program’s boot disk.

How to make a boot disk or bootable USB flash drive for Acronis True Image 2015

  • Note: You also need to create a boot disk or flash drive for Acronis True Image 2015 because in most cases you will install a trial version of Acronis and after 30 days it will stop working, but the boot disk will always remain functional and you can always use it to restore your operating system from a backup copy.
  • Not all new laptops with UEFI BIOS can be booted from such a flash drive; if you come across such a laptop, create one.

Launch the program and click on the button Tools. Choose Bootable Media Builder(create bootable media to recover your computer if it stops booting)

In this window you can choose which bootable media to create. You can create an ISO image of the program and add it to or download from it.

You can also create a simple CD or DVD with the program.

I will choose creating a bootable flash drive with the program Acronis True Image 2015. The flash drive must already be connected to the computer.

Get started.

The process of creating a bootable Acronis flash drive begins.

Acronis bootable media was successfully created on my flash drive.

In the computer boot menu I select the flash drive

We find our backup on the New Volume (M:) of the portable hard drive. Select it with the left mouse once and click OK.

Check all sections.

In this window we see three disks:

Disk 1 is our flash drive with Acronis True Image 2015.

Disk 2 is a portable USB hard drive on which a backup copy of the operating system is stored.

Disk 3 is our SSD to which we need to deploy the backup. So we choose it.

First, select the Section (Reserved by the system) (E:) with the left mouse and press the button Accept .

Select drive C: with the left mouse and click Accept.

Select the target disk for MBR recovery.

Select our SSD solid state drive and select it with the left mouse, click Next.

Get started

The recovery process begins and ends successfully.

What does this give?

You can install Windows on your computer and make a backup copy of the entire disk, which will contain nothing but Windows, just clean Windows. Reinstalling the operating system takes at least 30 minutes of real time, and restoring the operating system using Acronis True Image will not take more than 5 minutes. The same can be said for a hard drive with already installed programs and all kinds of files, for example, walkthroughs of games or a thesis. With standard recovery, this data will definitely be lost. A diploma can take several months to complete, and then may not be restored.

Acronis True Image allows you to get rid of the fear for your data. You can copy your data to another drive, a hidden partition, or an FTP server. The new version of True Image has received full integration into the Windows 7 control panel, which allows you to do archiving with virtually no effort.
